NFL FOOTBALL INJURIES | DOCTOR REACTS | DR CHRIS

NFL FOOTBALL INJURIES | DOCTOR REACTS | DR CHRIS
hey everybody dr.

Chris

orthopedic surgeon and  sports medicine physician and today I'm going to   react to the NFL

injuries

we do so here in Canada  we're approaching the end of the

football

season   the CFL or like two weeks away from the grand Cup  and in the United States here about two months   away from the Super Bowl but I thought it would be  a great time to react to some of the

injuries

that   have gone on in the NFL this season and if you  haven't done so yet

with that  being said let's get right to it even though I   love

football

even though

football

's been a major  part of my life because of my schedule is so busy   and don't really have time to watch the NFL or  all the NFL regularly so these videos are gonna   be a surprise I do want to see if they're  obviously like I'm in Canada go redblacks let's watch the videos okay so I'm gonna
watch  this first one here okay so the receiver defender   is running down field and as you decelerate his  knee goes into hyperextension that's the plants   his foot let's just play this little horn  here to see what's going on down boom there   we go he checks up try and not collide with the  already down player okay so that's Grove Thomas   my Seahawks I would venture to guess that he's  had probably a tibial plateau fracture plus or   minus a ligament
injury of the knee and that right  there is a season-ending injury he's gonna require   probably some surgery for that a long period  of globalization followed by a rehabilitation   and it's gonna be a while before he gets back to  playing

football

let's go on number two so let's   check it out so we have quarterbacks here for  the Sam sister 49ers this is Jimmy garoppolo's   he is running towards the sideline when he  plants his left leg his center of gravity
is   inside his plant foot and behind his plan now  with his knee in that valgus loaded position he   suffers what appears to be a ligament injury  and I'm almost positive that this is an ACL   of the new and then he gets so I'll check that  on Google afterwards to make sure but I'm almost   positive that's an ACL injury and I would say  it's an ACL injury until proven otherwise her   the star quarterback for San Francisco carted into  the locker room so

let's move on to video number   three collectors play tell you that the Rams  was the Seahawks all right we have a receiver   who has gone out on his route and he's looking  to make a reception here the defensive back that   comes down and latest a real audience guy for sure  this dude has a concussion at the very least you   can see afterwards he's just moving his hands so  the likelihood of spinal injury is much less but   at the very least as I said before this guy
has a  concussion and this is a big thing analogies with

football

because we know that contact sports are  associated with a higher incidence of concussion   it has been shown that many players in the NFL  go on to have problems with CTE chronic traumatic   encephalopathy which is basically a repetitive  contact injury to the brain and hit people on the   head gets routed a lot you're gonna have problems  down the road it really is important that we try   to teach players to
tackle without hitting the  head or without contacting heads together I   don't know what the specifics about this there  may have been some penalties or some fines for   the offender afterwards number four tears versus  the Broncos some of you have to watch afterwards   because obviously he's a teen I'm not sure he's  grabbing his ankle it was watched him play oh   okay so here we have the tight end running up  the attacks and as he does that I mean picks up
twice as infants in fact the moment that he makes  contact the tight end has got his foot planted on   the ground creating a shear force so was trying  to supplant it and the leg is being pushed to the   side this is a great opportunity to try an injury  and ankle this could cost an ankle fracture or an   ankle sprain depending on the severity of the  injury and the force of contact at the time we   can see that he's the Titanic able to plant his  foot afterwards and he's
nfl football injuries doctor reacts dr chris
actually able to weight   bear on it so the likelihood of there being a  fracture is probably low he's definitely in pain   he's definitely having some problems getting up I  would say for this guy I'm keen that probably he's   got an ankle sprain and I'd have to check that to  make sure but that's probably what he's got going   on okay so this is video number five and blue got  here do that fine hair like fingers versus brown   beans okay whoa all right
yeah we have my receiver  he was running out of the backfield okay we have   a receiver taking a short pass early by field  injury senator comes down hill each attack hold   the offensive player as his foot is planted on the  ground which is not necessarily a bad thing if the   foot is able to slide or move however when the  defender tackles the defensive player he rolls   up on the foot which traps the court on the ground  in an externally rotated position and you can see   that
he breaks his tibia just above the level of  the ankle we have a little force the running speed   and we have a rotation on the tibia and yeah it  doesn't end well as I said in another video those   are very strong in compression awesome but they  are crap in rotation but alright doesn't that   the razor makers happy nicest most dirty dumb  short and first down yardage by McDonald it's   gruesome even if you want an arm injury okay okay  now I see who this is full motion
yeah we have ran   back who's been given the ball on the handoff and  the defender reaches out grabs his leg to tripping   him as he puts his arm out he just so happens  to fall this is pretty kooky because guys follow   their arms all the time but he just so happens  to fall out an angle glance his hand and there's   a little bit of rotation there's no cranium as  I told you before bones are great compression   cracking location as he falls to the ground  with just
that little bit of rotation he ends   up breaking his forearm both bones of the forearm  and I can tell that because his he's basically got   a new elbow in the middle of the forearm yeah  he sustains it both wounds forearm fracture now bar both wounds of forearm to be fixated  with plates and that is also a season an injury   but and I got to give props up to my man here  because during the whole time he'll on to the   ball my dude is toughest down great ball
control  brother that's what I have to say so for today   that's it
