NEW Porsche Taycan TURBO GT Review: Should Tesla Be Scared? | 4K

Apr 16, 2024
welcome to Seville specifically welcome to the monter blanco racing circuit, a place we are very used to lately after having tested the Ferrari 296 GTB and the Audi R8 GT on this same racing circuit, but today we are about to try something even more powerful. and even faster than either of those two is, of course, the new Porsche Tyan Turbo GT. This is Haan's new flagship designed to take Porsche's electric saloon to never-before-seen extremes with improved aerodynamic weight reduction and huge power figures of the sort that make even a hypercar feel slightly inadequate, so listen to this , this car has 1,00 horsepower and 1,340 Newt M of torque, which is more than double the power you get in a 9911 G T3 RS and speaking of launch control, I guess it will be better. show you how fast it is I appreciate you I'm putting my body on the line here come on it's 60 oh my god the performance is absolutely crazy it's just flying the numbers on the dash don't even make sense the tyan

turbo

GT is in hands the Porsche with the fastest acceleration of all time reaching 62 in 2.2 seconds with road tires without a 1T deployment, the S plaid model as a reference will do it in 2.3 and what is most impressive is that it continues pulling hard reaching 125 mph in 6.4 seconds. almost a second faster than a McLaren 750, which is genuine supercar territory.

I've driven a few things in my life, but this is up there, so how does Porsche really achieve this level of performance? Not like its rivals at Tesla. and Lucid, by using three electric motors, the Tyan only needs two, it uses the same front motor as the Turbo S orb with different power electronics to allow more energy to be released, the batteries are from the

turbo

S2 but in this generation of Tyan it now has a Partial carbon fiber casing and optimized electronic hardware such as fuses to reduce weight at the rear. It again borrows the Mota from the much updated new Turbo S, but on top is a larger, more powerful pulse inverter that can supply a maximum current of 900 amps instead of the turbos' 600 amps, allowing for more power. in normal driving they make 788 hp during launch control which rises to 1100 for 2 seconds before falling back to 1000 33 for the rest of the launch if that particular sequence of numbers is If you find this a little confusing then let me add a few more to the pile, so, as standard, this car produces 788 PS but it also has Attack Mode.

Press the button on the steering wheel or pull the paddle behind the steering wheel and it increases it to 951. a total of 10 seconds, once those 10 seconds are up, you can wait 4 seconds for it to reset and cool down and then you can go back to start it so that when people ask you how much power your fancy new taan GT makes, you can say Well, it always depends a lot when they ask you how much the Tyan turbo GT has in common with the standard Tyan, the correct answer is it also depends, the GT is available in two versions, a standard car and one with the visc package, the standard is a cleaner, sportier design, a unique front spitter and Aero fins on the front and rear bumper, there are forged wheels with raised spokes that save 10kg, carbon ceramic brakes clamped by Victory Gold brake calipers which alone save 2.2kg each, carbon B-pillars and an integrated adaptive spoiler inside, there were bench seats in the rear and buckets Optional carbon fiber reinforced plastics for those up front, but the VCEAC package takes things to an extreme level that I don't think I've seen before in a mass-market electric car. and that's because this particular vehicle was built for the race track, as well as everything I just mentioned on the standard turbo GT, the visco package also includes this huge fixed carbon rear wing that can generate 220kg of downforce at the car's top speed of 189 mph, it also has a custom-made steering wheel with Attack mode paddles, carbon-backed bucket seats, and a host of other weight-saving measures that are very sophisticated, including the fact that Porsche has ripped out the back seats.

There are other weight-saving measures that it also abandons. the analog clock normally found on the dash eliminates one of two charging ports in favor of a single, manually operated lid; dispenses with rear speakers; it reduces the amount of sound insulation and eliminates the powered trunk lid in favor of a manual one altogether. the standard tyan turbo GT saves 75kg compared to the Turbo S with the visc package saving 75kg more sounds good, you might not guess how much the new tyan GT actually weighs, expect 2.2 tonnes so it's still a Bit of an elephant, but Guess what, it doesn't really feel like it does and this is the best compliment I can give you as a Porsche.

It still has that incredible balance you expect from the taan just with a lot more power and it's a lot more focused. a tremendous amount of grip and acceleration out of corners is simply. I think ridiculous is the right word, but porsa probably won't forgive me for using that term. Some people might call it acceleration. I think it's best described as teleportation. It's crazy. 145 163 180 200 210 220 230 240 250 kph on the brakes scary fast scary fast If you're one of the 150,000 people who have bought one of the standard Tians then you'll know that the original car felt very agile and this one promises to be even better at partly due to the weight reduction but also due to the new Porsche Active Ride suspension, an option on standard Tian cars that comes standard on the GT and is fantastic at absorbing big hits from potholes or curbs on the race track, but where?
What really stands out is keeping the car absolutely planted in those corners, there is absolutely no pitching or rolling. Porsche says it actually acts a bit like a helicopter, so when you brake the car leans back and when you accelerate it leans forward to counteract the gravitational forces acting against it, the suspension even allows the car to tilt. lean left and right when cornering when turning. One of the best ways we can demonstrate this is with a set of cones on the main straight, so I'll always scale it down. so slightly and I just try to push my way through and as you can see the car stays incredibly flat throughout the whole thing the composure is crazy it's still fun but the way it's locked is really impressive the main benefit seems be that the car maintains a constant contact surface with the tires, which obviously benefits braking, cornering and acceleration on the subject of tires.
Use a selection of custom-made plli P0 road tires or a set of P0 RS in the weac package. The latter handles the weight of the car well and reduces steering and helps you carry a much higher minimum speed through corners, but being a 1100 HP Hyper EV, it's very easy to disrupt that contact patch if you choose. The brakes are perhaps a weak point. The turbo GT uses huge 420mm discs at the front and 410mm carbon discs at the rear, of course, and both stopping power and braking range are decent, but towards the end of a stint , when carrying massive speed into several heavy braking zones, the brake pedal begins to lengthen over the same issue once the battery runs out. it goes below 20% power and fades away quickly, but then you'd hope it's safe to say that the tyan GT is one of the best, if not the best, electric sports car on the market, it's more powerful than the Plaid, no as powerful as A Sapphire of Lucid Air, but it has the great advantage of being the fastest car on two of the most prominent circuits in the world, the Nurburg Ring and Laguna Sea.
In the ring, the turbo GT achieved a time of 7 minutes and 7 seconds. 55 about 18 seconds faster than a Model S plaid achieved at Laguna Sea; it did a lap record of 1 minute 27.8 7 for a production electric car, impressive stuff but there are a few things worth pointing out firstly, both versions of the Tyan GT cost exactly the same £86,000, but if you opt for the car without the visco package then that just means you haven't bought the best if you are the kind of person who wants to spend that kind of money on the best tyan and If you go for this you may end up feeling a bit disappointed.
There's also the fact that Porsche hasn't released any performance figures for this car, so we don't know how it compares to a checkered Tesla Model S or the Lucid. Air Sapphire, one could also argue that this car looks too much like the standard Tyan turbo, adding this huge carbon rear wi would have helped, however Porsche told me that this is only available in the vceac package, meaning if you If you want the ultimate version of the Tian GT, then you will have to go for this particular car, however, this particular car does not come with rear seats, so potential customers end up in this strange complicated situation of wanting the ultimate version of a car that was originally designed to be practical, but is now completely impractical.
It makes you wonder what the point is. One of the things I've loved about Porsche of late is that they haven't really put too much emphasis on performance figures, the best car they make. The GT3 RS has half the horsepower of this car and would be dead in a straight line, but ironically it's even faster on tracks like Nurburg, which is more fun. Well, I'll give you a hint: it's not the Tian Turbo GT with especially the vceac package. What Porsche has done is create the fastest two-speed electric family car that you can't take your family in.
It's a brilliant car for the track, but we have to be honest. Porsche, frankly, makes better track cars. a technical exercise a car for engineers to show what is possible a glimpse of what I think will be a very bright electrified future shows that EVS can be fun but with twice the power you need twice as many doors as seats and twice the acceleration that the human body can withstand. Sometimes I wonder what the point is. It's very good, there's no doubt about it, but I really want to send a message to Porsche and all the manufacturers, please, we don't need an arms race where you're continually competing for top-of-the-line horsepower figures, what we need They are proper electric sports cars that are fun to drive regardless of power output.
Let the Tian do his thing. Let it be as fun a family car as I've had today. Ultimately, I think my verdict is that sometimes less is more.
