Feb 27, 2020
Hey guys, welcome back to today's crafty couple, we have three Dollar Tree DIYs that use canvas frames. If you enjoyed today's video, give it a thumbs up and let us know in the comments which one is your favorite to make the smallest flashlight we have. If I was going to grab two five-by-seven canvases from Dollar Tree, the easiest way for me to remove them was to take a flathead screwdriver and pry up the staples and then grab some pliers and rip them off, then go ahead and remove the canvas because they all I will need the canvas frame and then to shape the lantern you will need to take apart one of the corners.

I ended up tearing it off, then put the other canvas through the hole and hot glued the corner back together. Measure the middle at the bottom and top so you know where to put the hot glue, then put hot glue on those two parts and place the canvas on top to stabilize the lantern. I'm using two unfinished beads that I bought on Amazon and I left a link for that in the description and hot glued it to the shortest part of the canvas so everything can stay straight to

ate this. I'm putting a candle inside and then also using this lamb's ear that I got.

Walmart, after

ating it, I decided I didn't like the unfinished wood look, so I took some Waverly truffle chalk paint, thinned it with water and went over everything, then I went ahead and put in the candle. inside and cut some pieces of lamb's ear and wrap it to make the Lantern bigger. You're going to need two 8 by 10 canvases and do the same thing we did before for this one. I decided to stain it with a dark walnut Minwax stain and then I'm going to go over the top with the Waverly white chalk paint because we're going to go distress it after it's dry and then I dampen it to stress everything out using one of these green pads also from Dollar Tree. then again we'll go ahead and break one of the corners off to put it over the other canvas on this larger canvas.

The other side came apart a little bit, so go ahead and jump across that as well and then measure half on top and the other. down again, which is four inches, how to glue both parts and place the canvas on top to stabilize this larger lantern. I'm going to use

Jenga blocks and then hot glue both to the bottom. I added two more Jenga blocks as well so that when we put a candle in the middle it doesn't go to one side to decorate this one I'm using lamb's ears again from Walmart and then I'm using peonies that I bought on Amazon and there's a link for that on the description and then for this project I dyed 6x8 canvases, broke the corners once again and I'm going to hot glue them in the middle instead of making a lantern.

I decided to turn it around and put these glass jars from Dollar Tree inside to finish it off, I just put wine from Walmart inside for this project. We are using six by eight inch canvas frames and just like we had the canvas removed and just using the frame itself, we heard your feedback so we are going to remove the entire canvas instead of cutting it out and I'm interested to hear what you like do with that. Let us know in the comments what some of your favorite projects are that use the extra canvas for. We're also I'm going to use these falling tower blocks.
I ended up using twelve of them and four of these canvas frames. The next part we want to go ahead and stain all of the canvas blocks and frames. Our favorite dye we've been using is this one. Minwax dark walnut and we will have a link for that in the description below, once they are all stained we can start gluing them as usual, we usually use hot glue just for time reasons if you want a stronger hold. I definitely recommend a 6000 or maybe like gorilla glue that way it will last a little longer this part is completely optional what I'm doing is gluing the blocks to the bottom of the frames I felt like it just gave it a little bit It's a little better see it and add it to the overall design.
What I'm doing is gluing another block to these that we've already glued to the bottom of the frames and you want to make sure that you're gluing it to the actual block and not. the frame, since we want them to sit a little bit lower than the frames, the next thing we want to do is place our canvas frames on a piece of foam board and trace the inside square and we'll just cut it out with a razor blade. and what that will allow us to do is place it at the bottom of our planner box and that will hold whatever we put in there, as you see I'm sticking it here and then we'll just slide that piece of foam down.
There, for the center sides of our box, we will use a piece of cardstock and I measured it at 12 inches long and 5 and a half inches high. After we've made our lines, we can go ahead and cut that out. I picked it up and used it as a template and just lined it up with the rest of the cardstock I had traced out and then cut out the other three pieces we need for our box. We decided to make a fold every half inch. So what I'm doing here is measuring half an inch by making a line and then we'll start folding there, just fold it back and forth to the 12 inch mark.
Now it's very easy as you start folding to get bigger and bigger folds, so keep an eye on them and keep them as close to that half inch mark as possible. Once all of our pieces are folded, we can go ahead and use this shiny silver spray paint that will give us the base for our metallic look to distress it and give it a more metallic look. I'm using this Waverly Ink Chalk Paint. You'll have a link for that in the description below. I like to apply it with a dry brush and then use a wet and dry paper. towel to blend it in and give it a little more refined look so there aren't those harsh paint strokes.
After we have painted all of our pieces, we can start gluing all the sides of the pot. I started gluing it. in the corner and then adding a little bit of glue to the top and then the bottom that way we'll keep it a little bit more flush against the canvas frame. I try to do all the gluing and sewing in the corners where the frames are that way, we don't see them as much, so if you have some of that extra cardstock, cut it up for the flowers. We used lamb's ears and lavender from Walmart and cotton from Dollar Tree and Hobby.
Lobby, it took us a little while to figure out the arrangement, so we didn't show it. If you want to see it, let us know in the comments so we can show it to you next time.
