hanging out with that lonely parakeet. I feel very bad about it. My other budgie, Twinkie, has separation anxiety from Reuben, the one who just died, so I'm going to go back and stop by. a couple days of twinkie before takeoff or Toria, so I know it sucks anyway. I'm going to go ahead and drive through the night and start heading south toward Fairbanks. I don't know if I'm going to go to Fairbanks tonight, but we kept sailing and headed south right into another storm. Looks like we're going to see how far I can go tonight. I don't know if I'll make it to Fairbanks or not.

It's about 240 miles from the cold. foot. I'm only 15 miles south now, so we'll continue sailing and we'll see how far we can go. However, this has been a really cool trip this far and, uh, I'm really glad I did it. I went out and gave it a try, it's a pretty unique experience and some crazy things

happened

, but I'd say it was worth the trip overall and I'll have to come back and try again in the future and see if I can pull it off. All the way there I hit a caribou God, holy shit, I just hit a caribou, oh, hoping to mess up my

truck

too, oh man, jeez, holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, holy shit, holy shit , oh my God, oh no, no, no, no, oh, holy, oh my God.

I knew I was going to slide. just running in front of me there's nothing I could do um I went back and looked I couldn't find it anywhere I didn't I think it's okay I think I hit them pretty hard when I hit them uh the

truck

s are okay. I have that crash bar on the truck so that just saved the front end but I don't know the caribou left it's not like they didn't stay they all left so I hope everything is okay it's crazy luckily I had these. off road lights if I didn't have these off road lights it would have been this dark and I wouldn't have been able to see it but at least I could slow down which sucks even though it's just coming now.

Snow down here I even know it's supposed to snow tonight, but then again, I haven't looked at the forecast in a few days. I have not had cell reception. I still can't believe those caribou ran in front of me like that. I could see it coming too, it's super slippery ice, it couldn't stop this truck and the camper, you know, a little over 10,000 pounds combined, so it's like anything, it just starts sliding on the ice. I almost hit two of the kibo, luckily. I only touched one J you gotta be careful up here man I mean I'm being careful and that still

happened

to me so let's just keep going as far as I can go tonight and uh.

I'll eventually find a place to stop once I start to get tired, look at the trees, all frozen, the roads got really bad, here's the Yukon River Bridge, it works pretty well. We're about 140 miles from Fairbanks right now, starting to get a little tired. I don't know what time it is and it's almost 1:00 in the morning so I probably stopped at 2:00 am. m. or something like that. It's gotten pretty stormy again. Guys, the northern lights have appeared. Look at this, man, wow, oh my god. Holy shit, look at these northern lights, this is evil, oh my god, crazy, they're just dancing right now.
I have to put on my jacket. It's freezing. Wow, we're leaving right now. What you can see. The stars in the background. The Northern Lights are totally I went out tonight, this is so cool I didn't think I was going to be able to see it because it's been so stormy, I was just

driving

towards it, well guys I'm going to go and end the night right here, I'm pretty tired. evil doesn't even seem real. I can't set it to 45, so good morning everyone, let's do a little cold start on the power diesel engine and hopefully it turns over, let's see, oh boy, let the glow plugs heat it up. a little bit first here we go oh yeah buddy, easy this morning I love these trucks you guys are probably looking at these hydraulic chips here this is a chip that basically gives you a lot more power, a lot more torque changes your transmission changing patterns and does all kinds of things interesting, um, there's a setting here, there's a bunch of settings, but there's a high idle setting, which is good, you can wind it up and put the engine on idle so it warms up faster, alright, let's put it on. last night i got out of bed and made myself some coffee crazy afternoon or just found out my little friend died it sucks when a pet dies and then hits a damn carooo i mean how crazy is that like what ever I have hit A deer or caribou or whatever never hit anything big with a car. 30 years of

driving

never hit the first animal besides a squirrel or something.
I'm actually very lucky that it could have been much worse. I don't really eat cereal, but Man, this is incredibly good. I don't know if they ever had it without the sponsorship of these guys, but it's pretty cool. Let's try. We put in our old oven strap to hold the oven in place. It broke on this trip when you guys saw that when you're in a caravan you have to lock everything pretty well. I have latches on the drawers. I have bolts holding my wood stove on. I have a strap that holds my toilet. I have this. latch that prevents my bed from sliding out I have a rubber band around my refrigerator freezer, you really have a locker on that note, we are going to roll over and receive an oversized load, this could be big, okay, this It came to the end of the Dalton Highway back on the Fairbank side, so we headed south.
Beautiful morning, the sun is rising and it looks like we are going to have a sunny trip back. I hope, beautiful, guys, we just got back. We still have another eight hours to go south to Fairbanks, but we're going to fill up with gas and grab some coffee for breakfast and continue. It's very strange to drive through the desert for about 800 miles like that and then you arrive. to a city, okay, we are all full and we are going to start heading south, 8 hours to go and we will be back at the cabin again. The University of Alaska school never came through here, I thought.
I would just drive up here on the hill, it's cool, you can see all the snow machine tracks down there, it's probably one of the only universities in the world, you can go to class with a snow machine, well they're kinda After 11:00 in the morning, the sun is finally coming up, you know, what's crazy is that it's almost 1:00 in the afternoon, which is the brightest it's going to get and the Sun is going to rise higher than you see right there, it's almost like just the beginning of a sunrise for four or five hours and then it fades away, that was terrifying.
I was about to crash. He was almost super dead back there. I was probably going 50 mph 55 a pretty decent speed for this road and I turned around. and there was a broken down TR semi in the right lane almost completely blocking it, maybe 4T to get around it and uh, I couldn't stop and there was a semi approaching at the same time, a huge one and I had to get between the approaching semi and I went around the semi-truck to my right on the yellow line and that was what I was probably a foot away from being hit head-on by that dangerous semi-super sketchy highway man, right after I went around the truck, there are a couple of semi-trailers with large wheels. loads and uh they were coming this way I was turning on my lights to warn him like Hey brother you gotta slow down because there's about to be an accident here almost like a rainbow solar flare SL from the ice fog, it's pretty cool you know ?
It's funny, my shoulder is starting to hurt. I'm like, man, this seat belt really rubbed my shoulder during the ride. I just did it. I was bouncing so much that I literally tore a hole in my shirt. I can believe that's how much this truck has been shaking around us. I'm not too far from a hometown, it's still good, maybe 3 hours to drive, but I just wanted to share some of my thoughts on driving to the Arctic Ocean this time of year, in winter, I would do it first. I would go up there again, but it was a pretty intense trip.
I was pleasantly surprised at how bumpy the road was and how long it took to get there. The trip was a little more difficult than I thought it would be. I usually have no problems on snowy roads with this truck getting through them. I was able to do the entire course on two wheels, but just because of the amount of attention it takes, you have to constantly be on the lookout for a lot of curves. They're not very well marked with sharp turn signs and there are steep hills that come out of nowhere and it's super icy and you're a long way from helping yourself, so I would give you my biggest recommendation if you're thinking about trying that highway. in the winter it's to make sure that you are extremely prepared and that you really trust your vehicle and bring a satellite phone device, bring some type of range, essentially you only have cell phone service in cold and addan pass and then in neutral So , if something happens, you must be prepared to survive and be prepared to help with the satellite device if necessary.
Also, if you're going to try that route in the winter, you need to have multiple heat sources and you need to be able to survive if you lose all of those heat sources, so you need, like a winter sleeping bag, winter clothing that's warm enough to withstand 20 degrees or more and you need to have multiple heat sources like my truck has. heat I have that propane heater back there to warm up the engine. I have a generator to heat the block heater. I have a diesel heater. Wood stove. Want? Do you want to be prepared if you go out just in case?
It happens other than that, it's a beautiful trip and a really cool experience, but make sure you're prepared for it. We're heading to Anchorage right now and there was a car accident back there, a wrecker on the road and these cars going from Anchorage to Wasilla there's a backup of miles and miles and miles just showing how many people travel from Wasilla to Anchorage to work every day and then return. I've literally been driving with traffic on my back for say 4 miles and now almost back to a Bridge here we are you can see the Skew Resort lit up in the distance there we're almost home it looks like I'm going to have to shovel some snow , oh yeah, look at the cars, it snowed like 2 or 3 feet. while F Well guys, I guess that's it.
