More Interesting Facts About,

my two favorite elk hunting packs...

I know that if I go out in the afternoon, if I get a deer, if I get an antelope, I'll be able to pack this or that in this thing. It has full load capabilities, probably as versatile as any pack in the mystery ranch line, but I think it only has a little over 2300 cubic inches, so when we talk elk, these two packs are my go to elk hunting packs, So I'm going to talk to you about what I consider the two best elk hunting options in the Mystery Ranch lineup. This is the Beartooth 80 and this is the Metcalf that you see me use probably more than anything because of the versatility of it now.

Depending on your style of hunting, what type of hunting you do, what time of year you glass, do you just do archery, one or the other of these might be a better application, but both are designed for serious elk hunting. in test cuts. when you see me wearing this metalcalf you see me wearing a lot it's like my habit pack um it has the lid it's on the light guide empty frame all the adjustable things you know they come with a mysterious range uh the big belts all the big difference is the size is that in this mint colored cap here the volume is a little over 4,300 cubic inches and you get to that, oh, I left my that's where my clothes were, look I was looking for my clothes when I was doing the laundry the another day, uh, anyway, here's my everything, my disposal kit, my emergency kit, if the fertilizer hits the ventilation kit, everything is here and then I have my things that I need all the time.

It could be headlamps, toilet paper, some snacks, batteries, those are here, always available in my elevator, but sometimes people prefer the 270 degree zipper access that I'm going to show you on the Beartooth instead of a top loader or a side loader like the mat top, so Metcalf. you can load from the side like I'm showing here or you can load from the top and when I'm bowhunting you'll see I use this pack almost exclusively and even for shorter rifle hunts and I admit to that part. That's just a habit, so here's the top loader. Everything can work that way.
The benefit of the Metcalf that makes it so comfortable, so easy for me to just grab and go, is that you can actually compress it flat, I mean, look. that when I'm done with all my scraps, that thing will compress down to nothing, so when I use this metcalf I showed you how flat it will be when I shoot my elf, what I do is I use this charging rack that, hopefully, I can undo this very quickly and it won't take you long to see how this feature works, so now I'll leave that back room right here.
Oh, would you look at that fishing tool? I've been looking for that forever. I've been carrying it, uh, so this cargo rack and this one is a little bloody because it gets a lot of use, it's very adjustable, you can make it deeper, you can make it wider this way, but you take that rear quarter or that front quarter , you let it go. right here you buckle everything back up, side buckles, put the lid back on and you get out and you're going and you're taking out your outside quarter so you don't waste that trip with a smaller backpack, it's like, oh man, I've got four miles here I have to go back. to get my cargo pack or my external frame pack now with this Metcalf it's a hard option to beat, that's why you see me using it so much and it has side pockets here where if you want to put a telescope with a tripod, something right there on the other side um a lot of times, although in archery season I don't wear a lot of bulky clothing, a lot of insulating layers, in archery season I don't even carry a telescope because it's Everyone's bugling, well that's when I switch to my tooth bear and I'll show you why.
So this bear tooth, like I was telling you, this is new. They just sent it to me, very similar to the Metcalf, it has the cover where he wants it. all your useful stuff, but here instead of being top loading, it's side loading, it's got a 270 degree zipper so you can put more stuff in here, uh, when it's cold, when it's whatever you need to do so I can see you come in this way instead of 90 degrees over here or the top loader on the metcalf and again like the metcalf, you undo the cap when you shoot your elk, you put that cap right there and the same thing you undo these buckles.
Take out this bag and again the frame serves as a frame and the bag forms a cargo carrier for you, so drop that coin in there and you're done. The other feature of the beartooth is that it has a little more internal organization pockets. Here, part of the reason I use these Mystery Ray Mystery Ranch accessory bags is that if you start piling up stuff in your backpack it's like, oh man, everything fell to the bottom of the backpack, so I keep things organized in bags and on bare teeth. It has internal compartments where you can do that and then it has an external compartment where you can do the same thing, so this one, because in Wyoming I'll be gone for 10 days, I'm going to do a lot of things. glass, so I'll bring a spotter.
I'm going to bring a tripod while last week we bow hunted. I did not do it. It will be cold. We will be at 9,000 feet. We are at the end of September. I'm trying to remember. If I've ever hunted in Wyoming in late September and early October without encountering at least one snowstorm in a week, then I'll carry a few more insulating layers, maybe a few other things just for safety. In those conditions, this bear tooth has more volume and I can carry all of that with hardly any discomfort. I mean the mystery ranch backpacks are made for cargo carrying.
They invented the idea in the term freight transportation. So this is the Beartooth 80, the Metcalf, the Beartooth, either one you can't go wrong as to the outcome, it's just a matter of your own preference and if you want accessories, Mystery Ranch has all of that, spray carriers for Bears, uh, I'm trying to remember. what they call it, I think it's called a backstrap and what it is is a cargo sling that if the bag comes off, you can use it strictly as a pocket here that connects to your frame and then you have the orange one.
If you're in a state where orange is a thing, a requirement, or just for your own personal safety, you're worried, the pack covers all sorts of cool stuff for the mystery ranch, so there you have it folks, two great packs of mysterious ranch. Built for elk hunters, the Metcalf is a little smaller at 4,300 cubic inches and a little more, the Beartooth 5100, almost 5,200 cubic inches, both in the MT guide light frame, absolutely perfect for zoned elk hunting. rural, just a question of what your preference is. is the style of hunting and what your needs are, remember when you want to purchase one of these packages, go to one of the mystery ranch retailers, the one we suggest linked below, gohunt.com, when you go there, use the promo code randy, save 10 when you review thanks for watching happy
