My Thoughts on ASMR

May 29, 2021
I like to think that my videos, for the most part, have improved a lot in quality over the past year. Let's watch a clip from my first video, play it. So, you know those books you make in grade school, write in class, and have some editor turn them into a real book? You know those books you make in grade school? “Man, I don't think I can sound any less insecure. And I was eighteen when I made that video, I was legally old enough to... get married. That's why I always try to improve the quality of my videos.

I got a better microphone, I learned to improve my audio. I like to think that my drawings are more alive and moving. But sometimes when I record, I tend to... *lovely lip smacking sounds*Lip smacking*Seductive lips smacking* But I always thought it was because my mouth was dry. So I drank a whole bottle of water but sometimes I still smacked my lips. *lip smacking sound* Then I thought, is it possible that I'm drinking too much water? Is that even a thing? Maybe I should drink Gatorade (sports drink). So it's not a big deal, right? First I Google “how to stop lip smacking.” And since I couldn't find anything that had photos... "How can you read this?

There are no photos!" I decided to ask YouTube. I don't know, maybe someone will make voice acting tutorials. But instead, something... unspeakable occurred to me. Tonight marks the return of the beloved lip smack *pop* *pop* *pop* So there was this fourteen-year-old girl getting really close to the microphone and smacking her lips. And apparently there is a much greater demand for people who smack their lips than for people who don't. God, I don't even know why I tried to solve that problem. But you're probably thinking. James, this is just a video, right? This is just a person making a YouTube video, right?

There isn't an entire community dedicated to *Paper Smack* Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, ASMR. This is the full Wikipedia page printed with notes. You know, I bet at least some people who have this already know what it is. And you didn't tell me. Do you think I wouldn't find out? *Crash* At my university the charge is 5¢ to print a page. So I spent 65 cents printing this Wikipedia article. Money I'll never get back So what is ASMR? It's basically a video of someone whispering into a microphone and making certain sounds for about 20 to 60 minutes. Now you might be thinking, why?

Why do they do that? The Wikipedia article says that "the goal of ASMR is to give listeners a sort of tingling sensation in the head." And some people describe it as similar to a gentle electric current. The best way I can think of to describe it is... You know those Bob Ross videos? Do you remember when you loved watching the videos when you didn't know how to paint? Why were you looking at them? Yes, you saw them because you loved his soft, gentle voice. And the sounds of the brush on the canvas And when he hit that little thing with his brush.
You beat me bobby ( ͡ ° ͜ʖ ͡ ° ) ❤ I think that's what ASMR is trying to create. In fact, it's supposed to give you the same feeling when you watch a Bob Ross video. Man, you watched those videos a lot differently than I did! Now that I read the Wikipedia page, let me tell you some useless facts about it. The first case of ASMR was in a book written in 1925 that said: "With a voice harsh as that of a grasshopper, which scratched his back wonderfully and sent sound waves to his brain." The Frick? In this section on evolutionary history, David Huron states that: "The ASMR effect is clearly strongly related to the perception of non-threatening and 'althristic' belief," what is this word? 'Altrustic'?
Faith: Wait, let me look it up for you. Computer: AL - TRU - IS - TIC James: AL - TRWO - IST - IC Fe: No. AL - TROOOOO - IS - TIC James: AL - TROO - IS - KIT "The ASMR effect is clearly strongly related to the perception of non-threatening and al - tru - is - tic attention, and has strong similarities with physical grooming in primates', who feel enormous pleasure, bordering on euphoria, when they are cared for by a partner, not to clean themselves, but to create. links between them." So the question arises: Do dogs like it?
So...tonight...marks the return of the beloved...lip smacking *pop* ASMR was officially founded in 2008, but didn't gain popularity until a Facebook group was created along with a subreddit in 2010. Now Well, it wasn't always like that. called ASMR. Instead, people use phrases like "brain massage," "head tingling," "brain tingling," "back tingling," and my personal favorite, "attention-induced head orgasm." What are you doing with those grasshoppers, ma'am? But many people don't want to use the term orgasm in the name. Because then people would think that: uh, this ASMR thing is pretty sexual (like James) Which it isn't at all, y'all...
Except in 2015, when people started making a new genre of ASMR videos. called ASMR-otica *giddy laughter* And something else worth noting on the Wikipedia page: "The popularity of ASMR videos featuring women has significantly surpassed those made by male artists. However, there are a number of 'ASMRtists' 'popular male and not All video creators are heterosexual.' So I can't make ASMR videos, is that what it says? Thus, the creator of the Facebook group coined the term Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response in 2010. Autonomous means that it is spontaneous; Sensory meaning: the senses or sensation; and Meridian... which means orgasm. I didn't invent that.
Now the word Meridian does not mean orgasm at all. But the Wikipedia article says: "Allen chose the word 'meridian' mistakenly believing it was 'a friendlier way of saying orgasmic.'" If you look, it's even on his blog! So you tell me all the time that people have been using ASMR to climax, and that's not even what it means! Well, some other things in the Wikipedia article I want to talk about is that apparently not everyone experiences ASMR. There is also a type of ASMR called binaural recording, where performers use two microphones and place them where your ears would be. (In the correct sound source) So it's very creepy.
Another popular *licks lips* look that I'm licking right now. Another popular "theme" is that these videos contain a lot of role-playing games. In concrete terms: clinical role play. Now I'm someone who never really participates in the whole roleplaying experience. Except when CaptainSparklez does it. Come on, where's part five? Let's read from the wiki! "ASMRtists provide clinical or medical services, including routine general medical examinations. The creators of these videos make no claims about the reality of what is shown, and the viewer should realize that they are watching and hearing a simulation, performed by an actor " Yeah, I don't think we actually use the word "actor" on Wikipedia.
Well, what else? Little scientific research has been carried out on this matter. Some people say it's great for combating insomnia and anxiety. But others say: No, it is not. But I mean, it's not that it's bad for you. And I made a song to trigger ASMR. But I heard it; I don't think that song is the best word to describe it. It's more like normal ASMR audio. Just because it was released on an album doesn't make it a song, Wikipedia! And there's a comment in this video that I think sums up ASMR pretty well. “I feel very uncomfortable.” I had no idea ASMR existed.
Did you know that? I don't. Heck, even CollegeHumor has an ASMR parody video. I just want to make things clear, I don't hate people who make ASMR videos, or even people who enjoy watching them. And I'm certainly not jealous that some of these people have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and millions of views and all they do is just (laughs) touch a microphone for twenty minutes. *brush noises* But guys, I think this ASMR thing is getting a little out of hand. Please note that all of these videos are approximately 15 minutes to an hour long. We have this girl with a southern accent singing "I'm Blue" and "Numa Numa" to take a curse off you; * soft singing * inaudible whispers and clicks of the tongue; some of the dentist's role-playing games; returning a role-playing game from a library book; eat Chinese food; some of the Yu-Gi-Oh card readings; a Minecraft we are going to play;
I spent five nights at Freddy's tribute; Below the story; We are going to play Mario Maker; evening with a vampire; The Joker; SATAN; alien abduction; alien abduction for men; *Inhale* and torture role play. *Exhales* Really? You can type ASMR and write something after and you will get something. “Do you think... God remains in heaven because he also lives in fear of what he has created?” And what's doubly strange is that all of these videos are recent. They were made in 2015 or even 2016. Well, of course, Undertale and Mario Maker are recent. But Shrek? SHREK?! (Whispering) Shrek... But to end things, I just want to get something off my chest.
This Undertale ASMR was pretty good, compared to the others! You're probably still thinking, yeah, that's pretty weird, James. Yes, it's quite strange! We've gotten pretty deep into weirdness with those aliens! And they have been viewed almost a million times! I think this one deserves more viewers. You know, I just want an ASMR video that's forty minutes long, and then somewhere in the middle the person is just screaming. Really loud screams. Yes. Oh, and I never figured out how to stop myself from smacking my lips. If anyone knows, can you tell me? Does Gatorade work? I read somewhere that Gatorade works.
What if I only have Powerade? *Phone rings*: JAMES! : Hello dad, I have a strange request. : 'Alright? : Um, can you film the dogs with headphones? And then send me a video? : You mean dogs with earplugs? : Yes. : Make sure you film it horizontally. : I don't think they keep the headphones in their ears.
