Mr Joseph P Kennedy Says Au Revior (1940)
Feb 18, 2020I return to Washington to report to the president. He left England at this time with Rael. I am sorry that no one can do otherwise who has lived in England for the last three years. They have been years that have seen history made in their country and in mine I am grateful for this opportunity to speak with you. It has been a hard two months. You have faced it day and night with great courage, you faced it with your chin up and with a smile and nothing. it is as significant to me as the sign on their salvaged carriages that run through the cities, which to me represents the motto of all Brits and that is we can take it.
I can't forget a store I passed on the way to work the other day sells trinkets across the front of it had been blown up, but at the top hung a sign, as usual, but now wide open day and night, that's your courage when i went to school we were taught that the world's great courage would be spartan courage but your display will no doubt win you are a great page in history and will be talked about for centuries to come british courage me hats off to you can i also say right now that i will never forget your kindness to me and my family there will not be a minute while i am away that i will not be thinking of you and praying for you god bless you all
