Mr AMG on the GT63S! AMG’s In-House Hyper Saloon!

Jun 06, 2021
Hello guys, welcome back to our Br and we are in a very cold Abidine at the moment it is -5 and today is perhaps the biggest and most anticipated review without a doubt for us AMD addicts on this channel, and it is from the super AMG

saloon

, the GT 63 s. The 4 door coupe and now of course the e63 or the hammer as we like to call it has been around for a long time but you see there is a big difference between a car that AMG took from Mercedes and turned into an AMG in comparison with a car. that AMG has made from scratch, don't believe me, there are several examples of this.

The first one we can trace the origins of this car to is the legendary SLS AMG coupe. Now you know this car as well as I do. What an amazing car, this car did not have a base model Mercedes Benz, so it allowed AMG to create a car that had no restrictions in terms of materials, chassis, etc., so they made the SLS with wing doors. seagull, had a dry sump engine with that legendary V8 of his. a carbon torque tube and it quickly became the most driver-focused AMG car of all time and of course there was also a Black Series later and this was a revelation for us AMG customers because before we had the mundane SL, which no one was thrilled with at all.

More Interesting Facts About,

mr amg on the gt63s amg s in house hyper saloon...

Because it was essentially more of a grand tourer and not a sports car, this car allowed AMG to be its true motorsports-related salesperson. In fact, I had the pleasure of owning two SLSs and sold them at the completely wrong time, which is quite painful. Topic I just mentioned publicly anyway. I sold it because I needed more seating space. I have a family, so that car just wasn't going to cut it. I bought a 63 CLS hoping it would fill the same niche, but it just didn't. It didn't drive the same it didn't sound the same it didn't look the same anyway during this time AMD started working on what was then called in the press baby sls and you can see the initial spy shots what it looked like. like a car based on the sls platform, only shorter and earlier, people in this press thought it might even be a 2+2 like the 911 due to the different roofline, it looked quite similar and i was certainly expecting this, but it was not like that.

Anyway, the GTS hit the market and quickly became the car of its best drivers again. It was faster than the SLS. It came with things like dynamic engine mounts. It had a lighter body and, of course, the scorching, naturally aspirated 4-liter twin-turbo V8. then this was only developed by the AMG GTR which is now probably the most iconic AMG to date with 585 braking horsepower, use of active aerodynamics at the front, further weight savings and use of carbon fiber and , of course, was nicknamed the Beast of Green. Hell, due to their extensive use at the Nurburgring, by now customers of these cars had realized to what extent and how well the G's can make cars that are not based on Mercedes-Benz, so many of us wonder what would happen if they didn't. just make a two seater car, what if they made a four seater?

Now, I was listening and they started working on a car that was loosely based on an e63 truck platform and they previewed the design of this on the AMG GT four-seater. door concept Funnily enough, this was the first video we made on our BR, so things are coming full circle from time to time, surely this AMG GT 63 s was born, this 4-door GT shares a lot with its cousins two doors specifically. With the AMG GT r, the first thing is that it has active aerodynamics specifically at the front with active air panel management that allows you to better control the airflow at the front.
One of the first things you notice is the active spoiler at the rear. Also, in terms of aerodynamics, this spoiler is a little unique on this car and we'll talk about that when I get in, but you can actually change the height of the one on the non-Arab cut that also has a rear. The steering wheel of the AMG GTR and the G, which is definitely going to change the handling, especially in the smaller corners, we have the lively engine that we talked about before and there is a lot more rigidity here compared to the e63 specifically. like an aluminum clear panel under the front of the car and more struts and braces which I'll talk about when we talk about the handling of the car.
Now of course the engine is the m1 77 v8 4 liter Biturbo and like I said it has 640 braking horsepower 900 Newton meters of torque I mean this is nipping at the heels of the Aston DBS that's how crazy it is This super sedan, but this 4-door GT has tough competition within AMG itself through the e63, very different from being a two-door. rear wheel drive only, this car like the e63 is 4matic plus variable all wheel drive and what that means is that it is an all wheel drive car that can shift the power completely to the front or rear one hundred percent depending on how you are driving and your needs and also eliminates the drift mode of the e63 s.
It's also an all-weather car of course, thanks to the 4matic and it also shares that 9-speed gearbox that the e 63s has. it can handle the power better, but one really important thing for a super

saloon

like this is that the design has to be right, it has to look like a supercar saloon, so with the freedom given to AMG, this car basically looks like a GT with two extras. Doors were added so let's look at the design a bit of course first came the four door AMG GT concept and it's cool to see that when AMG and a Mercedes do concepts their final cars look almost identical to them and they like them to many manufacturers.
So to start you look at the front of course you have the famous Panamericana or the AMG specific grille like the GTR and the gt3 racing car made famous. Here the lights now match the facelift of the AMG GT family, they are exactly the same, and especially the light design of the interior, you have huge air intakes that are identical to the concept and, again, quite similar in some aspects to the AMG GT R. Also you have significant power domes on the bonnet and the bonnet is as long as you would expect an AMG GTS bonnet to be and then of course you come from the side where you have the spoiler with the side lip reminiscent of the AMG GT, the side of the car is very clean, very few lines, which is this. new design language of sensual purity from Gordon wagon Aziz loves to say that if you like a line, remove it, if you still like it, remove another line, really very simple shapes and then you see it has a design like a coke bottle at the back or you have a really hard shoulder and this car seems very wide and where the wheels are placed and you can notice this too, at least from where I am.
I'll try to show you in a movie that there is a little bit of negative camber on the wheels, which will definitely help with the handling aspect, the roofline is exactly the same as the two-door AMG GT. Let me show you very quickly you can see that it's literally just an extended version, it's not the same roof line that you see. in a CLS it is slightly different in the GT and that is shown very clearly here, the side mirrors are also on the front of the doors like on the two-door and you also have yellow calipers like on the AMG GT R. on the back rear and again it looks exactly GT it is a hatchback format just like the two door the lights are exactly the same the spoiler is of course active in exactly the same position if you get an aerodynamic package you will get the fixed one and the The diffuser now on the back bottom is exactly the same as that of the two-door facelift.
The same exhausts. Same size exhaust. Very similar diffuser. Everything looks exactly as it should. The purpose of this car has to be to look like a four-door GT and I want to take a step back and say how it could be more like a four-door Ford GT if anyone wants to criticize this so let's do it, let's take a two-door, add two more doors, let's make it a little bigger for the occupants inside for the a larger seating arrangement and it looks exactly like this car ended up being the only thing that bothers me is that it still has the engine cover from the e63, it's just a small detail, but if it had had the GT engine cover, it would have helped with the overall effect of it being a GT in my opinion.
You said that the GT folder is its most optional car, so you can make it look very varied. This particular press car looks a certain way, but I ordered one myself. and that's going to look completely different, which is good because you guys will be able to see that in March you'll be able to get, for example, an aero package that looks like this, you can get the larger 21-inch multi-spokes and, if you're in Europe, also you can get the GTR's high-performance wheels. It's a shame we didn't source them in the UK, so you can really vary the look of this car to your own tastes.
Now a lot of people certainly on Instagram have complained. about the fact that there is no cls63, but I think that is somewhat redundant now because this car has a similar shape, if not beaten, because it is much wider and I must make that clear that the e63, it is really like a supercar and okay same as the concept was, but it will run better, handle better, sound better, hold its value probably better than a very expensive cls63 and you will see that a 63 is not the type of safe design it used to be. Back in the day, doors really needed a CLS 63 for example, so yeah, I don't think we really need this car or unit now, of course this is just the start of the 4 door GT family there will be. cars that sit below and you have to think about this in the way that Porsche has different levels to the Panamera, so in some countries there will be a GT 43 that uses a six-part engine.
The GT 53 will certainly be in Europe and it is a car. I hope we can try it because it is the leader of the entry-level AMG for the exterior, yes, very AMG GT and the technology is a mix of be 63 and two-door AMG GT, but you can see inside that a lot of the same it's true. So let's take a look inside the four-door GT. Here is the interior of the AMG GT 4-door. When I first saw the concept, what I wanted most inside this car was this because it is the iconic part of the AMG.
GT is the center console taken straight from the two-door model, but it's updated and this time it has LED screens on each side in the same format, so you have four buttons on this side and four buttons on this side, and it's intended for invokes a v8 engine which, of course, is the heart of almost every GT; However, unlike the original AMG GT which had analogue dials, as I said, these have LEDs and change when you touch them to the different option that is now selected and that's it. really quite good and they look great during the day, the resolution is very high on these and it's great to see the content change when you touch it.
It's quite a rare thing in the car industry, this particular method of using screens and the UI combined is a lovely way of doing it, it's great to have this because like I said it's the signature mg GT and then instead of having the original team here, which I really don't like, you have it right in the middle. like you do in the GT, so GT owners like me, walking into this you immediately feel at home because you have that center console that you expect to have in the car and it's more pronounced because of the door facelift, as well as that.
It also has this center console and it also has this new steering wheel, what I called AMG's famous steampunk Pagani style steering wheel, of course, that steering wheel has a touch button on the left side to control the left screen and touch one on the right to control the one in front just as we have seen in all other modern Embiez. This steering wheel is also on the two-door facelift and in my opinion is the best steering wheel Ames has ever made. It looks big. photos and videos, but it's not pretty much the small diameter you're used to with AMG cars, but very square.
I think it's square on the sides, much more pronounced in terms of a square shape at the bottom, this interior is Of course, the beige interior, everything is beige and I'm glad we have a pretty extravagant interior because when you see my car will be completely opposite to this, now having a big beige steering wheel is a bit strange, but If we can look past that for a second, you'll see that you have the new AMG dynamic switches here now. In my opinion this is very important for security. I have used them a lot in press attempts.
I don't have a car yet. with them now all AMG GTS are standard with these switches and on the right side you can change your driving modes and it's very easy to do. It's such a satisfying feeling when you click on them, it feels so premium that it's like something you expect from a supercar. on the left side you have two options that you can customize by clicking on the screen to whatever you want, so I'll keep the escape mode there because we're exhausted or we need to have the escape on all the time andyou. You can choose a second one at the bottom and then they are there for you to choose on the fly very quickly as you drive.
Really safe way to do it and it keeps your eyes where they need to be, which is on the road and then. Of course, you're drawn to the rest of this front end here and it's going to look very similar to those of you who saw my review of the e class or CLS because it's essentially the same front end, but if you look at the two-door GT let me show you how it looks. see that in the same position and you'll notice that you have all the vents under the main screen here in exactly the same position, you have a vent on each side in exactly the same position and the screens of course are where they were going to be now, There is an argument to say that you could have had a roped off driver area and a separate screen like you do in front of the C63, but then a buyer who is going into this comparing it to an E63, I think you would have a little bit of luxury and a little bit of screen.
Envy. Personally, I wouldn't mind because I quite like the curves and the off-driver area, but I understand the logic. Why did AMG decide to make it as luxurious or as big in terms of screens as the e63 but the GT 63 has the SPECIAL Super Sport screen which actually started with this car even though it has spread to other cars since then and it is a really cool screen and of course unlike BMW's recent updates to the 8 Series you're not restricted to that style of screen, it's not as cool as the x1 MBU you'll find in the a 35 which is a shame and again there is no mbx in this car its just the updated command like you get in the e63 its a really good system but MB UX is so advanced you lose it when you get into other cars whereas if you drive this I don't think I'll even watch Black Series again.
I will miss a lot of the features, but one feature that is really important on this car is the AMG track pace. The AMG Extended Pace calculates and records many interesting data for the AMG driver, such as track racing. the biggest tracks in the world you get all your lap times you get all the telemetry data you can record drag races which is probably the most interesting and useful thing for the everyday driver and that's here as in all the other AMGs modern too, unlike the GT, with this car you also get the full range of 64 ambient light colors, which is nice because you can change the ambiance of this car, unlike the GT, where you basically have no choice, so you can do it. all the different multicolors here so just some GT specific stuff here, these standard seats are actually exclusive to the GT 4 door, they're the ones I chose because you can't get the buckets with driver assist which is weird, I have no idea why, but they are really very well made.
You have this beautiful AMG logo etched into the matte chrome. Here you also have the AMG shield on the headrest and its shape is very similar. to the buckets but a little more comfortable and when it comes to seating position, you are sitting much lower than the E63 and are very aware of the width of the car and the length of the bonnet. everything reminds you of the AMG GT, which is exactly what you want, because for some GT-specific things you'll notice here, you have a certain icon for the retractable rear spoiler, now this is different from the two-door that it actually is. more customizable if we hold down the button.
I'll tell you what I'll put it in the shortcuts here to make it easier for me right now it's fully extended, so the four dots are blue and I can hold it down and stop at two. points and then the spoiler will stay in the middle position or I can hold it longer and stop at three and then I'll stop there, so while on the two-door you only have one height, on this four-door you can adjust the height, either For the optics or the performance, it is something quite interesting and exclusive to this car. It also has the new touch panel like in the A class, unlike the c63 that the previous system had, this one has the touch panel and it is a really good touch panel.
I was scared when it first came out, like I told you, but once you use it you don't like going back to the old one because it's so intuitive in the way it works. a little bit of haptic feedback and a little bit of sound too to let you know how much you've clicked and it's nice and safe when you're driving and looking ahead. I have to say I don't like the spec of this interior at all, it's too much There's a lot of beige still having beige all over the steering wheel, how long will that last?
The footwells are beige, his boot is beige inside. All of that could have been darkened and large parts could have been left still beige, but the areas that are I was going to get really used to it could have been black and then of course it has piano black trim, which again is probably the dullest trim you can get on the four-door GT; here you have gloss carbon and matte carbon options which look much better and gives it more of an AMG GT look but I'm glad you're seeing this, like I said when you see the interior I've changed from mine you'll see a polar opposite experience to this one now.
The rear is quite interesting in the GT 63 because you get quite a bit of headroom and apparently it's almost as much as the ISA Loon and certainly as much as the A-Class, which is different from the CLS. You will have less headroom so I actually feel quite comfortable, it is a very airy interior and it doesn't stop there because in this car you have three different rear bench options, this is the three seat bench which weighs around 750 pounds and has the added benefit. Of course, having three hull seats in the back instead of two and you can fold them down for even more boot space.
I think it comes to something like 1300 liters, however you also have two more options: having two completely separate seats and the other is a real luxury package that brings a command screen here and, as it says on the tin, it is a Much more luxurious rear interior, but only for two people, but I'm really surprised at how comfortable it is in the back and I'm kind of glad that Eames gave this car a genuine rear interior instead of going the way of the Rapide, where the rear seats were quite tight, so I think families will be very happy inside the back of the Caron, in fact, adults and the last thing I wanted.
To show you the trunk myself because the trunk of the four-door is quite important since the two-door is a hatchback, this is also a hatchback and you really wanted it, so as you can see, we have a lot of luggage here. I have two suitcases, large backpacks and still plenty of space to put more things here and this is a big difference compared to the e63 which of course only has a traditional trunk and if you have the rear bench, as I said, you can fold it down. It has around 1300 liters of luggage in total and it's good that the opening isn't small, so this is actually quite a practical car.
I am very happy about the fact that it is a hatchback. This is my favorite part I've ever been to. waiting for this to start the car and see how it sounds in different modes, what I'm going to do is start with the most exciting one and we'll work our way up to the other mode, so let's start racing. We'll use the nice dynamic select button here, of course, the exhaust is on and we'll start the engine with the start button that was moved up here on the two doors, and actually wait, that didn't sound very exciting, did it? hmmm but there is a trick to turning the engine back off, you have to do what we learned on the a35 and that is hold the paddle right, upshift paddle, then start the car and suddenly you get a much more exciting start and Ames Of course, you've probably been forced to do this because of all the new European laws having to do with sound and emissions etc, so your car always defaults back to comfort, so if you always want get that good start, put it in Sport Plus or race and hold the paddle and turn the car and you'll get that nice sound.
Now let's see how the car sounds if you turn it on comfortably and just for the sake of it, you can see that you still sense that it's a V8 but it's very, very quiet and it's for that executive who wants to wake up and not bother his neighbors. Now let's try the sport too to complete it. It's interesting to hold the paddle and turn on the sport also gave a little boost, but now let's try it. A few revolutions in comfort sounds good, much more so than you might expect. I hope sport sounds exactly the same and it sounds exactly the same and now what you've been waiting for Sport Plus, listen to that, that's addictive.
Ridiculous, it has a different tune, a little bit different, than the e63, it sounds a little meatier and I really wanted to get into this car and put it in the race and see if that sounds different and it's always been that way. The race is beautiful. It is very identical to the Sport Plus so it sounds very good with meaty sounds and you have to remember that many manufacturers are making excuses nowadays saying that these cars don't sound good because of the particulate filter that was incorporated as part of the EU. Legal case in point, this sounds absolutely amazing, as does the c63 facelift, but now I want to see how it sounds on the road.
I want to see how this big car drives, is it like a GT or is it just a reskin be 63? I hope it's the former, so let's find out right now. This will be a first look at this car, we'll go into more detail and it will be a full review of the ride with launch control and all sorts when I get mine in a little over a month, the reason is there's a lot of ice here too, tires of winter, so not the best way to shoot, but this is my first experience with this car, since you guys party first.
Wonderful first impressions when exploring a new car, so the first thing I can tell you, apart from the obvious sound factor, is how good the steering is and when a car has bad steering it always disappoints me, this one has steering in the rear wheels and the The benefit of that is immense when you have shorter corners, so now we have one approaching and you brake into a nice U-turn and you feel like you are driving a smaller car and the reason for this is that when you have the rear wheel steering, even if they are smaller than in the GTR, in this car it shortens the wheelbase of the car, makes it turn more dramatically, so makes smaller maneuvers much easier to perform , which for a big old car like this is a key factor in making it feel smaller and more agile is combined with the extra rigidity that Eames has put into this compared to the e63 with the transparent panel we talked about, too There are numerous struts in both the front, center and rear.
This car has more rigidity compared to the E63 and nowadays the weight of modern cars is not as important as it is to be able to hide it enough by using smart technology and a lot of that is due to the dynamic engine mounts. that this car has from the two-door GT, allows them to move the weight of the car, the engine with the car rather than against it and therefore gives you a more comfortable ride when driving in a calmer manner, but then It allows you to get a much more dynamic ride when you drive faster now.
Can we please address the sound because it sounds absolutely wonderful. This car has a touch of e63, doesn't it? And it reminds me that the faceless c63s are just stronger, I think it's more like the latter, it makes sense because the engine is very much that kind of e63 tune and of course it's a new era of AMG, we haven't carried facelift to the door, so we don't know how that sounds. On the GT side it may sound very similar to this, in fact, but it doesn't sound like the GT C or the GTR. It has a deeper version of the c63 facelift, which is very very good, in fact now this car has fuel particles.
The downside to this is that it significantly reduces car noise. AMG and managed to find a way to make these cars absolutely still sound. It's crazy and that's not just inside, but outside because now inside there is a sound that is pumped from the engine compartment; It's a real sound that the car is making live and it's pumped into the vehicle, so it's not like BMW's active sound, which is digital sound files that are brought in. inside the car is the actual sound of the car that someone said today and I think it's just a brilliant, brilliant quote that it's a bit like a Wonder Bra instead of breast implants, so it's pushing up something that already exists in instead of doing something false, which I believe.
I just thought it was cool, now let's talk about power for a minute because like I said it's got 640 brake horsepower, 900 Newton meters of torque, what does that feel like in a big saloon? There somewhere, oh my god, remember the first video of the e63 I'm in? I didn't realize they can curse on YouTube and I sped up and it was very, very fast, yeah,This was actually faster than that zero to 60 in this car. that's a mind-blowing 3.2 seconds and we'll explore that when I get my car in March and do the full drive review, but again the dual purpose does something that the GT 2-door also does very well, so if we put this back in To be comfortable, could you turn on the exhaust, please?
I can still hear the exhaust sounding lovely, but the suspension is calmer, the steering is a bit lighter at low speeds, it still has a good weight to it, which is good, but suddenly it's like I'm driving a pair of eClasses. really nice with a suspension that conforms very well but is stiff so I feel the bumps in the road and get the feedback through the steering wheel which may not be for everyone but for a GT driver this is specifically what you're looking for in a four-door version of the car, you don't want it even in the comfort of a floating Mercedes-Benz, you want something that's intrinsically connected to the road now, of course, like I said, it's very icy, very slippery here this is a 4matic plus car and it's an all weather AMG GT that's why it's the only all weather AMG GT and that fact alone could be a reason for someone to choose this one over the two door because it just goes to give you year-round use and confidence to drive fast in conditions that the two-door simply wouldn't allow safely when I first saw the concept in Geneva in our first rbr video, I said that despite what the press was saying, this is not meant to target a Porsche Panamera like when you drive an AMG GTS, it's not a 911, yes they are the same price in the same part of the market, but there are two very different executions.
This type of car is much more like a two-door, it's like a super 4-door and the Panamera is not like that at first glance, at the moment this car looks 1020 percent better than the 63 in all areas. but you have to realize that it only takes 1020 percent for a car to be a c63 compared to a C 43 or a GTR compared to a normal AMG GT. It's those small changes that make a huge change in the experience with this car's precise steering. in terms of feedback, the rear wheel steering, the way everything shrinks around you, the way it sits on its wheels, it feels more like a GT and of course the thunderous sound.
Let's get this car back in March, let's really improve the performance. And let's see if that's the conclusion we come to: this is the best daily mg possible, so guys, I hope you enjoyed that intensive tour and got your first look at the 4-door AMG GT driving. Please like and subscribe as you always do. It always helps the channel enormously and we'll see you soon. I still have a little time with this car, so I'll try to enjoy it as much as possible.
