Apr 30, 2024
this is R for ffp I'm with Malik Scott, Deontay Wilder's trainer, how are you?, how are you tonight? well, well, how are you? I'm good, very good, uh here enjoying this elevation of this game from the promoter's point of view that the sties and Turkey have joined boxing, which is, like I said, elevation of the game because the promotion has never been done that way. So many fighters from so many different walks of life have never been given opportunities like this, financially big at stage level and all, so it's a proud moment for boxing right now and I'm happy to be a part of it and How do you feel about Deontay being given this opportunity to be part of such a big roster?

I think it's a blessing, it's another blessing. And I think this time too. that we cannot afford to have a mediocre performance like the one we had last time because we have an imposing opponent, very, very dangerous, um two because Deontay is in the second part of his career and he simply has no time to waste and Lo What I mean by this is that he doesn't have time to be mediocre, he doesn't have time to not be himself, he doesn't have time to not be violent, he doesn't have time to have bad days at the office on big stages. like so so we'll see and we have our hands full because like I said, Jen is dangerous, but I think Deontay could pass his test with flying colors in the most violent way also in the most violent way.

I think he could hit. Jen is out cold, let's hope you say she has no time to waste since the fight with Parker. Has your training of him been too quick to resume? How have you been preparing for this fight? Yeah well the preamp started about 3 months ago. He already started training, he already started doing floor work. He and I have been game planning doing our work on the floor. I work on the platform. Bad work. Noodle work. I know he's not trying to hit you, he's trying to run through you, um, not caring about anything that has to do with your life and that's what he needs to be when he fights with Jen and that's what he will be, we can't afford another one. mediocre performance, we can't afford to wait, we can't afford to let the rounds slip away because there is no tomorrow and we only have that time that night of the fight to do it in the ring because when I leave the ring I want Deontay not only to be proud of whoever I want him to be proud of himself his last fight with Joseph Parker he wasn't proud of himself and I and I liked it, I liked it because I was watching it You shouldn't be proud of that performance , but are you willing to fix it a week later?

Two weeks later, he was back at training

camp

. um, he was back in moderation, he was back doing well and even the language that he had he understood. back right language kind of stuff like you know it means everything was like BR back working hard I want to do this can we work on this? I'm glad I worked on it, let's keep building and that's the attitude you should have in this noble art. 'cause nothing should be taken for granted, the world doesn't owe us anything the same way, uh, uh, Deontay you've knocked out 30 40-somethings, people are the same way it could be done to him, you know what i mean if you are going towards someone towards me you should do it, you should walk towards him and box with humility, you shouldn't just approach him with your chin up, if you are going to back up against someone you should back up and have a buffer between you and your opponent, that's how you don't take boxing for granted, that's how you stay technically sound when you really want to win and you really want to protect yourself and that's what he's doing now and I'm proud of that.

It seems like it's not a question of skill with Deontay, it's more a question of mentality. I mean, he said he has everything to gain and nothing to lose. A big part of his training and his

camp

is his mentality. say the last part you start how important his mentality is in his training leading up to this fight on June 1st oh that's it, mentality is everything, I think and I think I know that we lost the last fight because of his mentality and that he not being able to pull the trigger and him not being himself, that's all a mental thing, you know what I mean, but at the same time I can't put two courts together and say well, it was all mental and say well, let's leave your Just technical errors, let's focus and go.
I don't want people to think that since Deontay Wilder was moving, he's getting ready to go out and just walk right into Jen's biggest punches, he's not going to go out and just go, go, no, no, go To be very violent, he will do it systematically and he will do it with good manners, he will have humility while doing it, but he has to be violent. at the same time, you can't have another performance like his without pulling the trigger because that's not the case. Deontay Wilder is a killer and he will prove it on June 1st.
So how much confidence do you have in Deontay? Bottom line, I'm extremely confident in Deontay and um, but at the same time I'm confident in Deontay because I've been in boxing since I was 12 years old and I'm 43 years old right now, so this is everything I know and I haven't seen. the best. of them had bad days at the office and then they come back and correct those mistakes so that a bad day at the office doesn't define me as a fighter, the way they come back defines me as a fighter and it's their time to come back and it's their Time to be himself and it's his time to give it his all and it's his time to knock out Jen Cole like I know he can and it's his time to show all of you why I brag about him so much even though he's my fighter.
Well, let's hope that on June 1st he emerges victorious and shows the world who he is. Thank you very much Mik for your time. Nice to meet you, thank you and God bless you for waiting for me, thank you.
