The idea of giving a new life to a shipping container appealed to us, there are so many of these things as we all know and turning it into something beautiful and something you can live in and hopefully last for a long time, I think that's pretty special what I love about this place are the windows obviously for the view and I like small spaces now I love trying to live a minimalist life at least that's what I'm trying to do but I've really just grown up.

I love it and the fact that it takes me 10 minutes to clean is also an added bonus, so this is our third year here and Trevor and I are here full time. It is made from four recycled shipping

, they measure 20 feet. long and was designed and manufactured by a company called Hono Mobile in Edmonton, Alberta, so what you see is what you get, 704 square feet, so even though it's a small space, we still have a full size couch and, obviously two chairs that we can fit a lot of people in a lot of guests we can feel comfortable and you know, I don't feel like I'm missing anything in terms of everything being a big room and having it all white is like having a blank canvas and really I feel like the landscaping is the artwork anyway and then the kitchen is beautiful because of the window at the end so it's a full kitchen, quartz countertop, the cabinet space is great because we don't have There is a lot of space that really makes you think about what you are buying so you don't know, I try not to overdo it.

The only thing this place doesn't have that you can easily put in is an oven because I have the outdoor kitchen, that's where our oven is now so I don't worry too much about that, but it does have a microwave, a dishwasher, a small fridge and we only have a normal three piece bathroom, it has a full tub and shower and a nice window. and this is the washer and dryer, it's perfect, I don't need anything else and this is the master bedroom and you know, sliding doors are great for saving space, so this is what is affectionately known as my sleeping closet, fits a queen size bed. and at the end is all the cabinet space and honestly it's perfect, it's really all we need.

This is a

room with another sliding door which is nice, I mean it's the same size as the other bedroom so you could have a bed. here, but I only have my little desk and it has wall to wall storage and we put an extra cabinet for coats and things by the front door. We

used

to live in kind of a traditional 2,300 square foot house and then we raised our kids, we didn't really need all that space, you know, there's only two of us and we thought, well, we'll build our own shipping container house, how hard can that be? and then when you realize that there are many obstacles to overcome.

We certainly jumped the gun for us in this area, so when we found these guys and it was already CSA approved, it was a lot easier with financing and insurance and things like that from the time we ordered it to the time it showed up . about three months, so it's a really quick process. The house and studio are in what's called a raft lab, so it's like 1,280 square feet. This is the hallway, so it's a space between our container house and the studio. It's so hot here. It's a lovely space to hang out in the summer months because it's nice and cool.
You know, this is a black house. We live in a semi-desert area. It is very hot in here. They are all windows, as you can see on the side. So yes. it has a lot of exposure, one thing that really helped us is the cooler blinds, so they are exterior and they just go down and then obviously the curtains and we have a Fujitsu system for air conditioning in the winter, as soon as the the sun comes in through those windows, it just changes it, you know, we don't have to have the heat on and it's really nice and warm, so you have to hit each end a little bit with the seasons to reduce the cost of living because obviously it's a smaller space less space to heat less space to cool less space to buy things and you know, clutter it all up so yeah our cost of living went down sure trevor does contract work i'm a singer and vocal coach and we're both doing a kind of transition to other things and you know we have this other space across the hall that is our studio and that has become another project that, you know, allows more income and this is the studio, so this space is about 450 square feet and it is a traditional stick frame so it is not

like our house but is made to look like it was built by my husband and children, initially it was a garage and then once that we arrived.
We thought it was a really nice space because of the big glass garage door, we decided to turn it into a bedroom and then we thought maybe we'd turn it into an Airbnb and that's where things completely took off and it's been super fun. It's not much bigger than a tiny house and we decided to put in a double sink, a full refrigerator and freezer and then a toaster oven, a microwave and a table and make it a complete place for guests and this is the entertainment area it has a 55-inch television and a record player.
One thing my mom and I do is try to get an idea of who was coming and what they would like, so we would choose a record based on what they might enjoy when they showed up for bed, we have a hidden bed because that way there's a little more transitional in terms of what you're wearing. The space for the hidden beds is not that comfortable so we added a memory foam and it is quite comfortable now the view and the garage door make a pretty nice space to stay in most people when they show up here that's what they want do is lift the garage door sit on the deck have a glass of wine bugs aren't a problem around here so we have a three piece bathroom but this one has a walk in shower and my son did all the tiled and has a nice cement tile floor.
Receiving guests here has been a great pleasure. Something positive in my life was meeting people from all over the world and it has been great. You know, I've made some friends that I would never have had the chance to meet anywhere else, so it's been really nice. Obviously, it just changed my life into a new career and, financially, it's been super rewarding. Airbnb has been such a great experience that we decided, you know, maybe we can start looking at building another tiny house and then we're looking for experiences and offering experiences here. my son is a master of enduro motorcycling and Kamloops is the mecca of mountain biking and mountain biking so he wants to offer experiences in both and then we have the outdoor kitchen.
My other son is a fantastic cook, so we like to offer come-cook experiences. and you know, let's break bread together, so we have some interesting things coming up. This video is sponsored by Airbnb and we are excited to collaborate with them.
