I bought this part for only six thousand dollars a few months ago and it didn't take much money to fix it. I probably have ten thousand dollars now, but it still looks like a Hooptie, there are a lot of imperfections throughout this car, which I'll show you in a moment, and it just looks like an old, worn-out Porsche, which I like, I can leave this all dirty and worn out, no. I have to worry about that, but I can't leave things alone and when the local mako first opened, we had one mako in probably 10 years, I decided I should probably try them, except I decided to leave it. my

daughter

picked

the paint color and

picked

whatever

she

wanted

, so yeah, the infamous mako paint job.

More Interesting Facts About,

letting maaco repaint my porsche 911 my daughter picked whatever color she wanted...

I remember the infamous commercials from that time with Burt Reynolds. I think 199 would get you the Ambassador paint service and make your car like new, which was not true, you had to pay a lot more to make the car look good, so the other day I took this to Mako and told them

wanted

to look the best possible, the best possible job they could do and it was It's not 200, they don't even have a 200 paint service anymore. I think their cheapest level is like five or six hundred dollars, but they said to make this car It looked amazing, like new, where they would do everything to fix all the defects in this car. sanded color after painting it, they really took their time with a primer and clear coat, it was going to cost a little over 2000 2000 which is a good deal considering a wrap would cost about the same and wouldn't look as good.

Well, because there are all these defects all over the car, now they estimated about five hours of body work just because there's a lot of sanding to do. You can see on the hood, there are all these imperfections, these big chips that they have to make everything look good. The front bumper also has chips and also a big scratch right here on the side. You have some dents that will need to be cleaned. It's not so bad on this side. In reality, it is the other side that takes most of the damage. Something rubbed here. it bent and messed up the paint here you have more chips a big dent here just a bunch of little things and if i tried to wrap this it would immediately bubble up and look horrible.

I could leave it like this, but I already decided to make it look nice. I say pretty, but I let my

daughter

choose the paint color and she chose a really wonderful one. Let's see it. Okay, Ellie has the Mako coloring book. She can reduce it. I want you to flip through each page. and uh just keep in your head which one is your favorite, then we'll see, okay, so you start with uh 26, two yellows, it's kind of golf orange. I'm fine with that, okay, this is a crazy plum. Like a Mopar color that's for uh Dodge Challengers and Daytonas and stuff, are you sure? let's keep looking, go to the next page, look at

whatever

you want there, okay, okay, that works fine, is there another page?
Okay, we turn every page you like, lagoon blue. like yellow, which others do you like, crazy plum, yes, and what else was there a red that you liked, well, I don't want to reveal it yet, she chose a really extraordinary color, but first I want to show it. Do you know what I'm going to do to prepare this Porsche and get it ready to paint? There really are a few things you should do yourself to ensure you get the best paint job possible. Mako, they're just a mask and It's kind of a spray spot when actually you could remove some of the stuff yourself and avoid overspray on some things and you know the fewer masking lines the better, the less chance there is of get damaged and really with the Porsche it is very easy.
Prepare this car to paint it. I think the designer of this car in some aspects, especially with the headlights, it does not look the way they designed it deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, as I will demonstrate now, many European and American brands are guilty of Over the engineering of many things with their cars, especially the headlights, you've heard horror stories of a headlight going out and the entire bumper basically having to come off the front to reach the headlight and remove it, but Porsche just isn't that. It is the easiest way to remove the headlights. I have a five millimeter extension on a quarter ratchet.
I'm going to put it in this little hole here. Plug it in and pop, the weasel says that's it, a little piece of rubber. The weather stripping was removed, but it literally comes off. There's a little slider here that you turn and it turns off the light. It even plugs back in. It's that simple, really that simple, so I'm not going to drive it there with the headlights on. because it's so easy to remove, I'll just put it back on and then take two minutes when I'm in the Mako parking lot to turn off the headlights.
It's the same with the rear, there's a 10 millimeter bolt that takes Outside of the tail lights, I'm also going to remove the Porsche badge because there are two eight millimeter nuts up here and then this thing is basically ready to paint, like this As for removing things, let's see how this turns out, one thing is for sure. Things will look very different in a week or so, very very different. Well hello, it's been a lot more than a week, actually it's been three weeks. I went to check out the Porsche a while ago and it's a different color than the guy.
It's a color and they are finishing it up, it will be soon but in the meantime I thought you should come with me while I go in my Nissan Quest to do a mechanical inspection, this is a really cool and fun spaceship. and safe truck I replaced my previous toyota with uh and it has some issues there is a big belt squeaking check engine lights on and I'm sure a few other things hopefully won't be too much cuz I only paid for four thousand dollars for this truck and it's probably barely worth it, but we'll see what the wizard says and we'll also check out the Bentleys.
There is some progress. You can hear it popping and screeching every time I make a sharp turn. Oh wizard, please be kind so that I may. just accelerate, although that sounds horrible, yes wizard, look at a nissan quest, how are your legs after doing your splits in the bentleys? I have recovered, yes, covered, oh yes, the search is splitting the bentleys at the moment, it is between the two they are doing the john claude van damme, yes, and progress on both, so here I have a rebuild kit for the fuel distributor. I'll show you real quick, okay, this misfire that we've been trying to fix for the next few months.
The chain link is this crazy fuel distributor, eh, that's on a lot of European cars from the 80s and 90s. Oh, I don't turn it upside down, okay, you're breaking it, so here's the original and it's all wrinkled and if there is a The smallest hole I think there is is cracked on some of these causing rough idling and rough running hmm this is from ethanol, ethanol does it well so over time it will fail and can cause this misfire which we cannot. I actually found out people I met who have this is one of the kits.
I'm still waiting for the rest, oh, I see, but they said that when you see these wrinkles in these little pockets here, most likely that's what's causing it to be interesting. they think that's probably the culprit, okay and you licked my climate control on the blue one that's wrapped in a protective film, yeah it's pleated, it's ppe for now, so what happened here? Hi, oh actually, the knob you turned to select auto and high and low. instead of selecting a position everything was spinning so it just came loose can't turn on yeah and then you told me someone did something that was stupid there was a fuse socket that was missing a fuse and the Fuse was stuck deep inside. the glove box, so someone may have been playing with the fuses when the climate control suddenly stopped working and didn't put the fuse back in, which made their job a little harder and I have no idea who it is, I have no idea .
Anyway, Nissan Quest Wizard West, I have a few issues, one is a massive belt squeak and when I turn it it jumps and squeaks even when it's warmed up, so wow, it's a little scary. I have a check engine light and the doors on my truck are uh, well I'll show you how it goes here, I think a little cleaning and lubrication of the tracks and rollers will get you back in business, that's good, come on, Come on, come on, barely, yeah, so can we see what the check engine light is? We're also going to do that with my handy autel scan tool, you know what this reminds me of?, like a DJ at a party when he's playing the record.
I never thought you never thought I thought it looked like Darth Vader's mask. at least the vents and oh it does things like that yeah yeah it's interesting how all the gauges are in the middle. A cool truck, it's a cool thing. I like the windows, Safari windows, yes, a small evaporation leak and the EGR temperature sensor circuit. everything sounds like cheap things to fix it's actually reaching deep into the v q deep into the vq trumpet sounds just needs a new strap and refitted i can see small cracks everything on the original strap is old ok a strap power steering and that will take care of that no, it's very common on these, it's actually okay, well, all the minor things, all the minor things, I would say you could fix all this for less than a few hundred dollars, perfect, I appreciate you looking at it, we definitely need that belt squeak to go away.
You can take out the chicken chili, that would be great, and then I hope to get my Porsche back soon. They painted it. Yes, my daughter chose the Keller. Let's make Mako do it too. So what color did you choose? It's quite different. color, all one color, yeah, okay, ellie, flip through all the colors, let's make our selection here, I know it's hard, any color you want, please, no purple, please, no plum, crazy purple, please , plum, crazy purple, well it may have taken a few more weeks and he said normally body shops are much worse than this, it takes months instead of weeks and purple is certainly not the color I would have chosen for this car , but it is unprecedented, the recent gt3s gt2 rs is, there is a lot of purple and there is a lot of paint to try purple porches over the years and seeing it in person is absolutely beautiful and the quality of this two thousand dollar mako paint job You're not paying me to say this this is after I paid the full retail bill for your paint job, they may have gone a little further since it was going to be on YouTube and you all would see it but please the rest, for a two thousand dollar paint job, I have very, very few complaints overall, it's a I almost can't believe I'm saying that this quality paint job almost shows with a mako, it just shows that the amount of The preparation you do on a paint job is what really pays off in results, so go Mako and just have the mask all over.
Sand it lightly and then just spray it on, it will look horrible. Pay for them to take their time and smooth out all the panels, which is what they did here. I think there's a place on the hood where I can see maybe. a small sanding mark, but barely, but overall there are very few imperfections. Orange peel is a very common thing seen in paint jobs. My green mustang has a lot because the guy shot it in his own garage and this. Well, the car was wet sanded beautifully. I didn't find any orange peel. The masking lines are also very good.
They didn't remove the seal on the windshield so they had to seal it again, but look what a good job they did masking it off. With this door seal they didn't remove it, they just masked it and did a great job. Another really challenging area is this rear wing, and I thought there was no way they were going to get it right and look at this. I just looked and there was a lot of damage to the body, chips, scratches and things, and it was all completely gone. I'm amazed and seeing the color in person I thought I was going to hate it, but now I really love it, now that there are Some minor things I could criticize, but this is a 2000 paint job, not a 2000 car paint job. exhibit of 10,000 and one of them is the masking of the ceiling up here.
I wish they had backed up a little more and kept going and It got to the seal here and it's a little uneven, so maybe I can fix this with some kind of rubber masking tape to make it look like it's part of the seal, that way it doesn't there is this masking line every time the top is down, but generallyThat's a minor complaint for a 2000 paint job, also the door jambs. I asked them to paint them and they did a fantastic job painting them. They also cleaned the inside for me as it was getting a bit.
There's dust there from their job, but they kept the vin plates taped up, they didn't remove them, they just taped them over and sprayed them, which is fine, but they also taped them up and saved this car from Park Place , which is a nitrous dealership in Dallas. inner frame sticker they could have taken it off so if I take it off it will be black underneath but it's really no big deal they even went to the trouble of putting it on. The headlights and taillights came back on for me and even turned them off for a while bit while they polished the entire car, which is just above and beyond, so this Mako location in Wichita Kansas is definitely worth it if you're looking for a cheap paint job on a car that's not worth that much, which is Porsche, certainly fits the bill, but now we need the final verdict on what the real boss thinks and that's my seven year old daughter.
Okay, Ellie, let's get down here. see what you think, it's very purple, it's amazing, so you like the color you chose, so this belly paint job cost two thousand dollars, which is about a hundred big packs of surprise dolls hahaha, it's worth it , yes, purple is the best color, so you want. to drive this to school when you turn 17 lamborghini do you want a lamborghini yeah here im going to ride your lamborghini and crash them good she said it she probably isn't wrong thanks for watching
