Let's Design a Patriotic Wreath for Memorial Day, Labor Day and 4th of July #wreathtutorial #wreath

May 19, 2024
Hey guys, I'm an Enchanted Vines car and today we're going to make a

patriotic

wreath

, so to get started, first we're going to make our bow. Okay, to start, I'll already cut my floral wire. I like it. Use the 22 gauge and we're going to make a simple bow with a very simple name. 10 by 10 really could have been a little more creative with that name, but you know, I'm going to place the back to start. side of my tape down on my ruler and I measure 10 inches and then I'm going to pleat or pinch whatever word you prefer, then I'm going to take the back of the tape again and lay it flat on my ruler, I measure 10 inches and now I'm going to go behind and fold, so now my pointer and my thumb hold this together.

Now I'm going to make a nice sharp turn. Again, the back of this tape is on the ruler and then I'm going to show it in full, so now we have this little figure eight and we're going to turn it over again, measure 10 inches and then make a loop behind it and then I want to have a extra set of tails, so I'm going to make one. large loop, it will probably be around 20 inches, okay and then I'm going to cut this to about 10 inches to match the other Tails. Now I'm going to take this wire, put it right under my thumb, twist it around the back.

Flip it over now, it's nice and secure, so I'm going to cut this big bow in half and we're going to fit, so I'm going to fold this ribbon in half and cut it up at an angle without cutting my fingers if you find that when you do it If you do it comes out in the opposite direction and you end up with a triangle facing downwards, it just means you did it backwards, so fold it and try again upwards at an angle. Let's do this with everyone. four of our tails and then I'm going to put it on a flower spike so it jumps out of the

wreath

.

You don't have to do this. You can definitely run the wire through the crown if you want, but. Alright, starting at the top of the stick, I'm just going to take this nice sturdy wire and I'm going to wrap it all the way around until it's gone. Now these floral picks have a little copper wire on them, we don't. You don't really have to do that when you're working with live flowers, what we're working on is too heavy, so since I like to cover the mechanics, I'll take some floral tape and just apply a little pressure so it sticks and then I'll go to do the same.

Run this, okay, so we have our bow ready and I love this print. This is from Michaels and I actually think he's a few years old. I think he had monopolized it. it's um, but this really pops, it looks beautiful on people's doors, great in photos, all that stuff, so okay, let's go to our wreath, so the first thing we're going to do is prepare our wreath, like this which this is really Not bad, Michaels has been giving me some things lately, but in this case everyone was very happy, so I just need a minimum of preparation, so I just want it to be nice and polished and symmetrical, so I like to cut all these strays. branches, if you or your client likes all these little vinyl things, you know, and that's fine too, it's all personal and aesthetic taste, so I don't really change my wreath for summer, usually my spring wreath, that's my crown, um, until fall. but I love having a

patriotic

wreath on my door because we have Memorial Day, we have the 4th of July and then we have Labor Day, so I like to put up my patriotic wreath and I also like to put little American flags in my flower pots . to celebrate, celebrate the S of a, okay, now that this is clean, we're going to make a half moon wreath, so I just want to cover the less desirable side, so this here is a little bit crooked, so that's the side we're going to cover, so now taking a piece it's called J wire or Grap Vine wire.
I'm just going to pass this through a thick piece, I'm just going to twist the ends and then I'm going to pass that so that the rounded side is on top and then I'm going to mark it with a bow. This cable. Yes, it's called fire. This cable is

design

ed to blend in, which is great, but sometimes, when you're. Working you just lose it, so I like to keep it marked, it's easier to find, and we're going to apply pretty much the same technique, so the first thing we're going to put in is our beautiful patriotic. bow, so I'm working here with my secure union pink pot, so I'm dipping the stem and then I'm going.
I think it's much easier than taking a glue gun and going back and forth this way it doesn't interrupt the flow. of your

design

because let's go when you're feeling it you're feeling it you don't want anything to slow you down so once it's in we're going to start with our FAS okay and we're going to use variegated for this this is for an in person job and I feel like people like the variegated one more than the plain green ones, so give the people what they want okay, so I'll just cut them into four pieces each, so for the one in the middle it's too much long, so what I did was I cut off everything except these last two branches, so let's save these little ones, maybe we need them, maybe we don't, and now we're going to start with our frame, okay? so let's flex our muscle memory, right here you're going to start at the top corner and what we're doing is setting the parameters of How tall we're building this how wide, so down here in the bottom corner. and when I'm working on the bottom half of the crowns, I like to try feeding them with grapes facing up.
Vines have natural grip. I'm sure you've lost a lot of sweaters to a CU vine, they pull them, um, but that's what their job is to have a grip on, so I feel like when you go from the bottom and push it up, I think it's more likely it catches, so in addition to the glue securing it, also the Vine grip holds it while I'm doing these side to side. I'm giving them a curve so they follow the natural curve of the crown. I'm going to try to make this a little more contained today. I realize that I have actually started to feel a little happy. so I'm going to try to mark it up a little bit in this design, so we'll do one above our arch and one below.
I'd love to know if you decorate for our patriotic holidays if you're here in the US. So what do you do? I know some people have um, I'm not going to say the right word, they're like banners, they're beautiful, they're printed like that and they hide like your windows. I love them. Alright, I'm going to make one more notice here at the end. I still feel like that's always missing so let's start by putting it in and with everything I'm doing I'm repeating it it's a great way to keep things nice and balanced it's not perfect but it definitely helps so once we've finished with our Fus, we're going to start with our flowers and for this we're going to do a mix of some hydrangeas, some rocus, some berries, so but for me these are the perfect shades for this, so I'm going to start with the blue hydrangeas first, it's Well, there are five of these on each bush.
I've combined a similar one, so I have more than five here, we're just. I'm going to use five okay we're going to do this as a pattern so I'm going to start working from my bow here and then repeat next and now for these they just go straight to the wreath so it's not like they're divided because I want the heads looking this way to alternate with this one looking down, so this one is going to be high. I'm going to repeat that next, okay, one more, this is this one, right? Here it's okay, next we're going to use our white, so for these I like the foliage, so I'm going to push the foliage up gently so that the flower head doesn't come off, trim this so that this design is It will be for an upcoming workshop and it will be at a brewery so yeah but it's also a veteran owned brewery so I think it's a cool event to have it there so starting over with our patron, a taller one, let's start in this.
Top corner, this one is going to start high and the way these hydrangeas are, there's always one that's a lot bigger than the other, so I'm going to use them on top so they're in a more prominent spot and then underneath the bottom corner right now. I have a lot of glue hair, so if you notice excess glue hair, it's probably because the glue isn't hot enough, so I just turned this on, so now I'm creating more glue strands than I need, but I hope you're designing with high temperature glue products, whether you know the glue gun or the glue container, because high temperature glue is going to be a lot more, see what's the right word, it's going to stay, like this that you already know some. people have doors that get a lot of sun and you hear that their wreath literally melts well for a high temperature.
I mean the sun would have to be incredibly hot for overkill so I think it's the right product for the job so for my glue pot I use the Sher Bonder pellets and then for my glue gun I use the glue sticks Gorilla Glue. I push the foliage up and recently ordered Gorilla glue sticks and got the medium size ones and those. You drive me crazy because you go through them so quickly, but I was also too lazy to return them, so I'm going to make the mark right, starting with our patterns again, we're just going to look to see where the blanks are and repeat that next, You can see that there is a coincident Gap because we are doing things that are quite balanced, quite alternating, look, go back up, listen.
I love how vibrant these colors are, like they're going to completely pop. from someone's door okay let's see this look a little Take the head off too sometimes Sher V glue is too good okay so I took the head off but this is an easy fix so I'm just going to take this stem I'm going to dip it in the glue and then I'm going to put it back, okay, it's done, it's like new, so I was trying to correct here, now I'm I'm going to take a step back, like this I think we can use this red down here.
I'm going to hold off on this red for now and we're going to go in with some of our textured greens, so we'll use this mix. Fern, push it up a little. I love the color of this one. Let's see, let's try to use four, so when we design for workshops, we obviously want to make sure we take cost into account because if your materials are really high, then your tickets may not sell and then you're left with a lot of inventory. , so you want to find a balance, you want to make sure everything is good quality, but you also don't want to go crazy like there's a less expensive substitute. that's what you should go with, that's how I do it anyway, there's a lot of movement here with this, I love it and then here we have an area that needs more height, not a lot of height, just a little bit, and this is it. obviously it's a patriotic theme, but this is something you can do with anything, you can use two colors of hydrangeas, you can do it with PES, all in the same pattern, now we're going to use our Woodland Fern, okay, these are also pushers. so I want to keep them airy, so I'm not going to put too much pressure on them.
I don't want the heads to come off, let's see if we can also get away with using half a bush for this May or not. or it may not work, let's see well so I'm going to start in this corner. In fact, I'm going to start behind the goal looking a little sloppy. I'm going to put one on top, we're going to put one on bottom and Then I always like something that's cascading at the end, so we're just going to give it a curve and we're going to overlap it, okay, and then we're going to repeat that on the bottom, okay, take a step. behind and both here and there are missing, as well as behind the arch. so we're going to use the entire fern bush we want it to be cost effective but we also want to make sure that everyone leaves with a beautiful full wreath so it's not worth skimping on it and uh and people.
I don't love it, so repeat that down here a little bit more and then let's also do something between our flowers, we want to break that up, we don't want it to just look like everything is solid. Floral, okay, little disruptors, give it that character it needs okay, so I have these berries. I have a few things and as always I'm going in blind, so I want to see if I want to add this or if I think this is going to detract from the blue. I write I think these will look good, so let's use a couple of these smaller rocus flowers.
We'll start this off right, we actually still have one of the red hydrangeas, so I'm going to put this right behind our Arch, this area looks very bare, put that in and then I'll take Oculus. I'll put one right above where it is between that tail and then I'll repeat and put one underneath at an upward angle, okay? and then we're going to use our little pointy eyes just to fill this in a little bit more and to get in between the flowers so they're there and they're peeking out, so it's okay that they're not the pretty pointy ones. which we love so much and yes, you can spread the leaves to go in different directions just to get the most out of it.
A piece of this that is left is sometimes only used if we do not place our materials in theright way we're just wasting them so one could have been better positioned and then we're I'm going to put one on each side of our B rib of the arch. Yeah, I was thinking about all these accents, but they're not the same, other than their anoculus, they're just not as bright. I really don't want to, no. I want to detract from everything it's super bad so move it however you can fit oops I need this so where are you coming from? from here we go.
I'm just dipping the base. I'm going to put this back in sometimes, I really wouldn't. I care if just one little thing falls off, but this is such a small bloom that we need every piece, I'm sure we have the same thing here, that we just have one kind of bloom at the end, let's see, that's me. I'm going to take one more piece of Ficus and I'm just going to put it here, you'll never know until you start what you're going to use, guess how much these little guys will spin, okay, so I'll give this ni Bend and this one.
It's going to bend, so it's going up. I think it's good. This one came together very, very easily, so now we're just going to turn it over and we're going to trim all the stems that went through and because these are the. pieces that have glue on them, we'll go back with our glue gun and just add glue where we cut out, cover it with a little bit of moss to make sure we don't scratch any doors. sometimes they are a little hard to see so I just like to gently peel around you, don't prick yourself.
I was going to say impale, but impale seems a little dramatic, now let's make our glue gun. our Moss is ready right now. I'm using fancy Moss, this is from home. I'm just waiting for the regular Moss to come back or arrive, so using fancy Moss is definitely less of a hassle, it's just a lot more expensive just looking at my fingers. I'm not touching the hot glue, damn, I thought you were going to look good and then I dropped the glue here, so I'm going to let it dry, it will definitely come off, it's on the back of a sheet anyway, but no I don't want that to show to our clients, okay, so I'm going to finish by using a hair dryer to remove the glue hairs and then I'm going to apply the UV spray.
Here is our half moon wreath, perfect for summer months for those amazing long weekends when we are all waiting for a way to celebrate, celebrate the USA and for our entries to celebrate with us, so I hope you like this video and thanks for watching.
