and that is a fundamental skill to excel at

, but for some reason it is a skill that is rarely used. taught and I don't really understand why I am going to share

this

book with you. I'm going to give you a brief summary of what it contains and tell you what I like about it and what I don't like so much. and then you can decide whether or not it is the right book for you.

I will also give you three learning techniques from the book that will definitely improve your learning and the other thing I want to do is compare this book with this book, which if you watch the channel regularly, you will have seen me talk about this is a great book about learning and I still really like this book, but how does it compare to this one? Keep watching to know when you're preparing for an exam and then soon after, forget everything you've learned and don't tell me you've never done that before. Chapter one is about that and explains the difference between working memory, which is if you know how Compu computers work, it's a bit like Ram, it's the memory that you use while you think and compares it to long-term memory and explains that to learn you have to move information from your working memory to your long-term memory and discusses ways to do this. which also talks about how working memory can give the illusion of learning and how it tricks you into thinking you've learned something so you know when you're reading a textbook and you read it and you think, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. how to do it, you go through the worked example

and you feel like you understand it, but then when you come back to it, maybe the next day you don't remember

It's because your working memory has tricked you into thinking you've learned it when you really haven't, so chapter one introduces that topic. Chapter one talks about the limitations of working memory and your working memory is actually quite limited and uses the analogy of an octopus with four tentacles that can only hold four things at a time and introduces methods you can use to move information from your working memory to your long-term memory. Chapter 2 delves a little deeper into working memory. in detail and looks at the effects that working memory can have on your ability to learn and talks about two types of people: the racing driver who has very good working memory and then the hiker whose working memory is not so good and is TRUE. that if you don't have a good working memory then you may find it harder to learn, that's the bad news, but the good news is that your long term memory is practically unlimited and if you don't have a good working memory memory, you can use strategies that allow your long-term memory to kick in, so I think this is one of the strong points of the book because if you have a bad working memory, you can easily be dismissed as someone who can't particularly learn. well, but these methods will ensure that you can learn as well or in some cases even better than people who have very good working memory.

Chapter 3 explains how your brain works, obviously not completely, but what it does do is tell you how information comes out of the brain. memory to long-term memory and that is in the neocortex and what role does the hippocampus play in that. I didn't know much about these processes, so it was helpful for me. It also has some practical use because it makes you more aware of things like Why sleep is important when it comes to transferring information from your working memory to your long-term memory. Chapter four covers a really important topic: procrastination, how to avoid it and how to overcome it.

It also talks about the two methods of the brain: focused and diffuse concentration. and how understanding them can help you optimize your own learning. Basically, you work in concentration mode until you get frustrated with something you can't do anymore and then you rest so your brain can understand what's happening. The book also analyzes two ways of learning: the declarative way and the procedural way: declarative is when you intentionally learn something like I don't know how to study Latin vocabulary and the procedural way is when you learn to ride a bicycle, generally you can explain the declarative process but you don't explain the procedure. and to learn something well you need to use both paths.
What did I like about the book? The information it contains is definitely based on scientific evidence and is explained in a very accessible style. Was there something I didn't do? Sometimes I don't like accessible style getting too close. I think it's simplistic, but that only happens once in a while and I understand that they are aiming this book at a very broad market, so if you own this book, go for it. Is this one worth buying? There is a lot of overlap between these two books. This book is much more recent. It was published a couple of years ago.
This one is already 10 years old, but both are based on

science

. goes deeper into how the brain works, but they cover much of the same ground. If you're just looking for practical learning techniques then you only need one or the other, but if you're interested in learning in general then you know you could do that too. Well get them both, this book covers aspects that this one doesn't, so here are some learning techniques from the book that you can use today. Recovery practice number one. This is the most effective learning technique known to

We learn more when we try. it retrieves information from our brains so if you want to learn something try it yourself keep testing yourself and when I mentioned this in the past in other videos there were people in the comments who said oh but that's just bad learning it's not a recovery practice.
That is, testing yourself improves memory and understanding, you will understand a topic better and remember more about it if you test yourself on it and also if those tests become more difficult and you try to link it with information and knowledge. which you already have.
