Before we continue, we have to talk about the OJ Simpson thing. I don't know how many people have been watching it, and I was talking to Ryan Murphy the other day and he's amazed at the success that he's had. I couldn't believe the success he had, because it's a true story, but then he saw it. How many years ago did it happen? Well, it's 1994. Wow, then. Yes, 22 years ago. 22, that would be the math. Yes. And then- They're all sitting there, going. I think it's also very popular with everyone, because another generation is seeing this, some people for the first time.

We got divorced about three years ago. Before that? Yes. And you were good friends with Nicole? Yes. So, for those of you who don't know the story, OJ Simpson was accused of killing Nicole Simpson. You were good friends with her, but you didn't even realize she was being abused? I didn't know there was abuse until we saw how it all unfolded, like everyone else, and then we heard the 911 tapes that had been, many of them, that were going to be used as evidence in the trial.

So it's heartbreaking. I can't believe she was your friend and didn't tell you: I'm in trouble and I need to get away from this guy. Some of her other close friends and I were really surprised and shocked by that, because we felt like we had really failed her as a friend of hers. You go through this and find out things about someone and it was horrible. Although she and I were supposed to have lunch the next day, the day after she was murdered, and she said she wanted to show me some things and talk about what was in her safe.

And now, unfortunately, it all makes sense that that's probably what she wanted to reveal to me the next day, which broke my heart because I will always feel horrible for not paying enough attention. How did she find out that she was murdered? her mother called me. She had known OJ since he was 17 years old. When I met Robert, I met OJ. That was a long time ago, so he was like a big brother to me. And that morning he was coming back from taking the kids to school and he was supposed to meet Nicole. He was going to change me and go meet her.

And the phone rang and my assistant said Judy was on the phone. And I said, tell her I'll call her right away, and then she talked to Judy for a second. She says, no, you really need to take the call. And I picked up the phone and she told me that Nicole had been shot. And I said, what? I said, okay, I'm on my way. Where I go? And she said no, she didn't make it. And I said, what do you mean she's been her? And that was the information Judy had at that very moment. And that was very early in the morning.

Yeah, wow. And I know that was really difficult because Robert was supporting him and taking his side. And then, little by little, he realized that there was too much evidence, it was very clear. It's also very interesting to me to look back and see how Marsha Clark was treated, because she was the person trying to process it and it was incredible. And they just destroyed her because she was a woman. Yes. Did OJ ever try to contact you? Right after, yes. He called me several times and wanted to talk and explain how she felt. Mm-hm, okay, you don't want to talk about it.

But that must have been really awkward. It was painful, it was the whole thing, every day was something different. And it was very difficult because my ex-husband was on one side and I was on the other. The kids were in the middle, and he was trying to explain this to the kids and then OJ called. And I lost, everyone lost a lot that night. It was that you lost everything you knew about yourself, I can't even imagine being his family, his sisters. His parents were so devastated and all of us friends were completely- If you haven't, I'm sure there's a way to catch up if you haven't started.
