She wore her seat belt She was always in the car seat Always in an instant The routine trip in the countryside became a nightmare without warning Wendell lost control of his truck He went off the road and fell into a creek The truck landed upside down both compasses were stuck in seat 3043 water quickly flooded The cab standard called 9-1-1 it took paramedics almost 20 minutes to arrive at the accident scene. The water was so high that you couldn't see 6 inches below the water's surface.

There is no way to know anything. The rescue team turned the truck over. Their side gave them access to the passenger door. The first thing they saw was an empty car seat. They didn't seem to have the safe when Roque cut the seat there to get to the driver buried in the muddy water. No one was ready. It didn't have the defect. not breathing, she was just very cold, you know, she was just limping, nothing there, she was just dead moments later, rescuers discovered Samantha's grandfather dead in the bottom of the taxi. Julia began performing CPR and grazed the dead. two year old to the nearby hospital in the city of Magnolia 15 minutes away we received an imminent call indicating that we had a child who had been underwater for 40 minutes the child had no signs of life and obviously we do not have This happened every days, so we were all pretty distraught and called what we called a code immediately.
I wrapped her in a blanket, she was still heavy, she was at the club, he could feel the cold even through the blanket, they brought Samantha in at 2:30 p.m. m. Nearly an hour after the accident, doctors and nurses worked feverishly to find signs of life. At first he had no heartbeat and was not breathing at all. We're trying to warm his body up a little bit because he had a very low core temperature. holding life, all of us in the room were moms and dads and you just imagined, do you know what would happen if this was my daughter? and I could say, you know, this is my little girl with dark hair stuck to her little head and her color was full because she had been pulseless the nurses continued with CPR they injected her with medication to try to restart her heart they even tried fibrillation shocking his heart seven times in a desperate attempt to get a pulse the chances of her surviving were decreasing rapidly.
Time passed so quickly that it seemed like, "you know, we've been doing it for a few minutes and then it was." After an hour and a half we could see our

babies

lying there and we could think that if it was my baby, I would want her to stop smoking and of course she wouldn't and I will never forget the moment we were working on it. for almost two hours, which is an extremely long time to carry out. I guess I've probably been in our 20s and that's the longest code I've probably been in. Finally an unbearable decision had to be made.
Mahalo described and everyone in the room was crying and was like how can you stop this? how can you stop? You could have heard a pin drop in that room it was so quiet no one wanted to stop and then all of a sudden we heard this and Sam took a breath and it was like she was longing and I failed and she had a pulse and it was like a life came

back

to enter and at that moment we were applauding as if we were at a soccer game, everyone

real

ized that they had just witnessed a miracle.
Samantha had come

back

to life. It had been almost three hours since her grandfather's truck and rolled in the icy water the girl's heartbeat stabilized but she was still on the brink of death and urgently needed broader medical help, the only facility handling such a critical case Arkansas Children's Hospital was 100 miles north in Little Rock, the trauma team mobilized on Angel One back to Magnolia City Hospital. Samantha's parents were finally allowed in to see her little daughter. She still hadn't regained her color. She didn't look good. Like my baby, she was all these machines and I didn't want to believe she was a pain.
She just didn't know how to put into words when she blinked or glitched or anything. It was simply the worst moment of my entire life. Two hours and 15 minutes later, Ángel Uno arrived at the Children's Hospital waiting for her in the pediatric intensive care unit. There was a medical team consisting of internal trauma surgeons, respiratory therapists and specially trained nurses. We had heard how long she had been in cardiac arrest. and how long she had been submerged, so we expected a child in a very deep coma in a very unstable condition, based on his experience, the specialist knew that there was little hope for survival let alone any kind of recovery if he survived and could not wake up.
They are unable to respond to their

and have severe brain damage, often to the point of

being

what we call vegetative doctors. Come in, she won't live if she makes it, she'll never be the little girl we knew. I just had to keep thinking, but they don't know, you know, they said they didn't know what was going to happen, so I had to wait for the next 72 hours, the family held a vigil while Samantha hesitated between life and death and then another miracle Samantha opened her eyes she had come out of the coma but the extent of the complications was still unknown she couldn't walk she couldn't eat they didn't want to do too much anything else she would get very frustrated and just cry and scream and there would be nothing you could do to calm her down but at the same time less she was there, yeah, so we can deal with that with a huge amount of helping Samantha slowly started to get better we had an education and child life specialist who saw her and worked with her we had the speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, rehab nursing - everyone is completely amazed, the girl no one expected to live and who is making an incredible recovery just 37 days after arriving in a coma at Arkansas Children's Hospital Samantha HUD Minh was ready to come home one Samantha's homecoming party was celebrated by old friends of the family and the new ones who had helped save her life in a few years will completely understand Samantha. how deeply it touched the men's hearts, remembering the accident, doctors suspect a heart attack caused Wendell Hutton to lose control of the truck had gone into hypothermia, a drastic drop in core body temperature, but investigators concluded that something More happened in the freezing water that day the last act of love of a dying grandfather the doctors told us that if she hadn't been in that car seat then she would have had bruises there would have been broken bones from the rollover of that truck and there was nothing From that he also tells us that he had time to get her out of the seat to remove the seat belt and try to get out of the truck.
Now only two years later, Samantha is 4 years old, she runs and plays and shows no signs of the nearby tragedy. She survived. I

real

ly think you have to describe Samantha's recovery as miraculous for her to get out and essentially function normally again. I think it's a miracle. This was the greatest thing that has happened to me in all my years of Medicine. I have been in practice for 40 years. I had never seen anything like this and I felt like we were all at my age Samantha, your story touched the hearts of all of us, we will be right back Rick and Diana Stafford had given up hope of having children, but fate intervened when the voice of a young Russian orphan touched their hearts and changed their lives forever.
I know this sounds a little strange, but I think he must be our son, it's an unforgettable story. I'm Vladimir, his eyes shine, he has a beautiful smile, you know, he says mom, mom, dad, dad, I love you, I love you, welcome back. Our next story takes us to the outskirts of Moscow, Russia, where thousands of unwanted children live in orphanages. silenced by a desperate longing to be part of a family but there was a powerful soul whose spirit could not be silenced his name is Vladimir and his voice would resonate halfway around the world for Rick and Diana Stafford of Cincinnati Ohio music and family have always been at the center of their lives, they met while playing in their university's marching band and had their first date on September 23, 1982, they immediately fell in love and from that moment on we were together and a year and a week after that first On the day we were married, Stafford was sharing love with her family and they imagined their lives would be filled with the joy of raising children, but in late 1989, after six years of being unable to conceive a child out of desperation, they resorted to treatment. of infertility each.
The month began with promise and ended with bitter disappointment, leaving them physically and emotionally devastated, and I think at one point we decided it was too much pain to keep trying to do something that nature wasn't going to allow. It happened and it was a great pain, time healed their aching hearts and two years later, in the fall of 1991, their thoughts turned once again to creating a family, only this time they would try to adopt, they signed up with a foster agency. private adoption and a A year later, her birth mother chose them to adopt her baby.
It's funny to adopt once you hear that your heart connects with that child even though you've never seen them, unfortunately the biological mother changed her mind and decided to keep her baby. not once to Rick and Diana, but a second time in 1992 it was devastating it was painful it was painful it was very difficult for us it was almost a tragedy for our marriage at that time the pain and disappointment separated them Rick and Diana were separated for almost two months when they got back together they resigned themselves to a life without children but fate would intervene on an early morning trip Rick was in his car listening to a National Public Radio story about Russian orphanages on December 1, 1994 there are several American parents who have almost completed the adoption process, reporter Brooke Gladstone visited an orphanage on the outskirts of Moscow and spent time with hundreds of children waiting to be adopted, but for Brooke there was one child who stood out from the rest: his name was Vladimir, a seven-year-old boy.
A one-year-old boy who had been abandoned by his parents at birth because he suffered from severe physical deformities. In the middle of the story, as I listen to her, she says something about the effect of it and then there is Vladimir crying with his withered and deformed hands. and feet the storyIt ended with Vladimir singing a few lines of a Russian lullaby There was something about this mysterious voice on the radio that touched Rick's soul He felt an inexplicable spiritual connection with the boy and immediately called Diana I know this sounds like It's strange, but I think who is destined to be our son.
I could tell from his voice on the phone that he was very serious about this, but his heart really wanted to do something about this voice he heard in the background of the tape. Stafford's search for the young man led them to contact NPR reporter Brooke Gladstone in Moscow. Although Brooke admired Vladimir, she warned them about his severe disability; he slithered like a fish or a snake, unable to sit or move. right. His knees were bent, his feet were beaten, his hands were completely crossed and I told him: well, tell me about his spirit, tell me about his mind, his soul, what did he do?
How did he get there? He simply had a tremendously strong will and he had no awareness of being different from the other children or being disadvantaged or strange he was the oldest he was extremely bright and he was king of the hill if his mind is there and his soul is there and he has a fantastic spirit and she had described that he had so the rest of me wasn't so important Rick and Diana contacted an organization called cradle of Hope that specializes in overseas adoptions, they spent weeks filling out applications and forms during this time Diana admitted to Rick that she was worried about taking care of a child with special needs, that was one of my biggest fears about getting pregnant, so now I am looking to bring a seven year old boy with a physical disability one day, while Diana was home alone, the doctor was Vladimir.
Report before reading any information right at the top of the newspapers there was a photo of Vladimir. I looked at him. I looked into his eyes and I just melted and just to see the sweetness in the innocence, the gentleness, the brightness, the life in this photograph it was. Incredible, all of Diana's fears disappeared. She and Rick agreed to move forward with the adoption even though Vladimir's medical records revealed that he suffered from arthrogryposis, a crippling genetic disorder that devastates muscle tissue and joints and renders his limbs nearly useless. I knew I was going to have to help him feed him, clothe him, bathe him, basically, he needed help with everything and I didn't have a problem with that, but now they were facing a much bigger problem.
It would take $20,000 to cover the various expenses to adopt Vladimir the Stafford just didn't have it, they gathered what little snippets they could from friends and family, but it was very brief. An article appeared in the local newspaper that unleashed an avalanche of love. strangers sent checks. an airline drastically reduced its airfare. an organization donated. A wheelchair to take Vladimir to his new home was one small miracle after another. On June 2, 1995, six months after Rick first heard that little voice on the radio, he and Diana were on their way to Russia to Pick up your new son.
A home video camera captures the moment seven-year-old Vladimir met his American parents for the first time, unable to walk on his own, a caregiver lifted Blatt Amir so he could hug his new parents and he walks across the room with a slightly contorted body jumping. back and forth he is very energetic and his eyes shine, he has a beautiful smile and his hair is crampy and you know, he says mom mom dad dad I love you, I love you the whole room was crying, it was the closest thing to a birth moment . As I can imagine, Rick and Diana's lifelong dream of becoming parents had finally come true, they spent the rest of the day at the orphanage getting to know Vladimir and one of his most precious secrets and little did we know that in his little bed there in In the orphanage that was hidden in the corner, he would lie in bed at night and ask God to give him a family in America.
His prayers were answered. It was time for Vladimir to say goodbye to everyone at the orphanage, the only home he had ever known. traveled to the United States with her new family an impossible dream had come true when we returned her brave quest to fulfill another miracle babies will continue for Richard and Diana Stafford the long road to having children finally ended with the adoption of a seven-year-old Russian boy orphan named Vladimir but in many ways his journey was just beginning it was as if we had never stopped being a family, it was as if it had always been that way until Vladimir learned English, the new family found a way to overcome the language barrier I think.
It was a benefit for us to not speak the same language and I think it helped us all be more sensitive to looking beyond the words to the meaning behind the words and there was a message that Rick and Diana could see clearly in the eyes of Vladimir. longing to use his hands and feet like other children, his way of walking was to use this part of his hands in a club and he would put them behind him and he would really look like a seal. Rick and Diana brought fladam air to Shriners Hospital. for Children in Lexington Kentucky, which donates medical services to families in need, they basically x-rayed his entire body, from head to toe, and we evaluated his hands, elbows, knees and hips.
The news was not good. Vladimir's condition was much more serious than they had ever imagined; his elbows were straight and his head could not be bent, his wrists were bent as far as they could towards the forearm and could not be straightened at all, Dr. Burgess had a plan: He would surgically implant Vladimir's gnarled wrist with this torture-looking contraption of rods and wires called the sick device, the Illawarra working as a mechanical cast to straighten his deformed hands in the summer of 1996, a year after arriving. In America Vladimir underwent the operation to insert stainless steel spokes into his hands.
Rick and Diana would have to do the unthinkable four times a day: they would have to turn the small screws that would pull the rods embedded in his bones and slowly help him rise. Amir's flat hands due to his severely bent positions make it a little difficult to sit there and literally stretch out his son's arm. It is hard for the parents, they drew strength to bear the pain they were inflicting on Vladimir by seeing his son bravely endure it for two months. Later, he finally removed the device and the results were surprising. Vladimir's twisted and useless hands had a new life.
He underwent intensive physical therapy to increase strength and flexibility. Using his hands will always be difficult, but it is a big improvement over the results they had before. They planned to use the same procedure on Vladimir's clubbed feet in October 1996, as doctors made final preparations to implant the device, reviewed his x-rays one last time and realized that the device would never be able to correct his clubbed feet. . Vladimir's only hope of ever being able to walk was to have his feet amputated, both of them addressing his foot problems with any invitation. I felt very shocked because it was not even something we had considered until that moment, it was a decision that we felt from the beginning that it would have to be a decision that he would have to make, which at 10 years old was going to be extremely difficult.
Vladimir made the decision. most difficult decision of his young life on March 31, 1997 he underwent a complex 12-hour surgery the medical team not only amputated his feet but also corrected serious problems with his hips and knees six months later his legs healed from the surgery Vladimir now faced the difficult and demanding task of learning to walk with his new prosthetics. This home video filmed by Rick and Diana captures their son's strength and determination. He was terrified. What he was anticipating was getting into these plastic things and being in a lot of pain, so he was beside himself with fear: the tap turned off and once he was able to put on the prosthetics and give himself a couple of minutes to calm down, he realized. account of this. this is not as bad as I thought it was going to be Vladimir stood still for almost 15 minutes calming his nerves and gathering the courage to do something he had never done in his life walk kind words of encouragement from his mother urged him to finally be able to , at the time Rick and Diana never thought they had experienced that their parents were 10 years old, their son was about to take his first small step when he was able to grab the bars and take his first step, it was beyond words .
Almost three years have passed since Vladimir took those first steps. Today at the age of 12 he continues to conquer mountains. He learned English and continues to make progress in using his hands and legs. His spirit inspired Rick and Diana to adopt another grieving Russian orphan, Nadia. with the same congenital deformities as Vladimir, they feel that her family is now complete. Having a family was very special, very important in a sense, it completed us and brought all the pieces together. I would definitely say we believe in miracles, although Vladimir probably always will. relying on a walker for help, he has come a long way from that small Russian orphanage when I was in the orphanage I wanted to have a family, have a father and a mother, he has left the past behind and even forgotten the words of that sad Russian lullaby that was sung on the radio that fateful day, has been replaced by a new song, one of infinite hope and possibilities, thank you to the Stafford family, mom, dad, brother and sister, stay with us below, Jamie and Lynn Parks were the perfect couple, a tragic near miss.
It cost Lynne her life. One of the nurses was instructed to prepare organ donation forms for her mother to sign. Jamie's unconditional love allowed Lynne to have a miraculous recovery and today they are the parents of her own miracle baby. They welcome back a girl named Anna. Lynn Marie Parks came into the world on August 23, 1999, there were no life-threatening complications or emergencies, in fact, it was a normal birth, but the path that brought her parents to this day was anything but normal. and the birth of AnnaLynne is nothing short of a miracle a miracle that can only be explained by the power of love when Jamie Parks met Lynn McGovern 14 years ago he knew in an instant that his life had changed forever I knew in a very short period of time time that this was someone really It's especially hard to imagine how things could keep getting better, but he simply maintained that each day was better than the last, like everything else in his life.
Jamie recorded his courtship with Lynn in a video diary that documents every moment of her fairytale relationship with his home. video camera in one hand and a ring in the other just two months after meeting Lynn Jamie was ready to pop the question, then she would walk in and say, aren't you the luckiest people in the world? and I said: you sure are. You know she couldn't say enough about him and she really loved him, so I knew this marriage would be a good one. As Jamie and Lynn planned their future, they both agreed that raising children would be an important part of their life together, they picked a date for the wedding. wedding on October 10, 1987, but just five months before their wedding day this love story took a tragic turn on May 9.
Lynne's brother was driving her to pick up Jamie to go to a baseball game as they turned left. She was hit broadside by an oncoming barrage I waited and waited and waited and waited and she wasn't there and I thought it was no wonder something happened. Surprisingly, her brother suffered only minor injuries, but Lin was completely unconscious when she was rushed to nearby Olympia Fields Hospitals, the diagnosis was serious. head trauma massive internal bleeding broken pelvis collapsed lungs and lacerated liver then when I got there they assured me I would go into this small room my Lin's mother was there and I told them how she is and it's just the look on her face mother what said it all.
This woman was the best thing that ever happened to me and she just didn't want it to go away from her and it hurt me so much inside that it was breaking me watching her go through this while a surgical team worked non-stop. to control the bleeding and Lynn's brain and abdomen. Jamie and Lynn's families waited for any sign of hope. None arrived. There was actually one point where one of the nurses was instructed to prepare the organ donation forms to have her mother on site. There was nothing else. The doctors could do nothing but wait.
Lynn was alone. Jamie and Lynn's families kept a 24-hour vigil, but it stretched two days and then, more than a week after the accident, the first signs of hope. Lynn opened her eyes and moved her arms that she was reaching for. outside the bars this was the first move she made miraculously Linh survived she was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital and three months later she returned home to the care of her beautiful mother while Lin's eyes were now open looking straight ahead withoutrecognize nothing around him day and night Jamie begged Lynn to talk to him days turned into weeks weeks turned into months still no answer it was October 10, 1987 the day they dreamed of but instead of celebrating Jamie recorded this message for Lynn today we were getting married.
I had to do it. postpone it or leave right now Jamie's love grew stronger, he said that Lin understood parts of his life, even if he couldn't express it, he knew it would get better and suddenly, as Jamie's camera rolled, Lin surprised everyone by turning head voluntarily for the first time. When she started to make real progress still no one was ready for what happened next, my son came in and he used to say say Mike say Mike hundreds of times and she never said anything and that night it was two in the afternoon. tomorrow and she he has the same rank and she says I am like and he turned to me and said did you hear that and I said yes he said well if you heard that she must have said it for the first time.
Time since the accident Jamie was able to talk to Lynn and Lynn slowly but steadily was able to talk to Jamie was the breakthrough everyone had been waiting for but there was still a long road ahead Lynne began a grueling program of physical and speech therapy progress was slow and This once vibrant and physically strong woman became frustrated that she was treated for depression and finally told Jamie that he should move on, that he shouldn't wait for her. I said, "You know, if you had given me a good reason, I would have left, but you know." This thing that happened to you is not a good reason so as far as I was concerned I was going to continue and I was not going to stop.
Jamie and Lynne renewed their love and began to rebuild their lives, they set a new date and planned their wedding, but this time Lynne had one condition: her goal was to walk down the aisle and nothing would stop her, so she worked tirelessly and, you know , four or five six hours a day he practiced walking after countless hours of rehabilitation, seven years after his accident. I was ready to take the most important steps in her life that I was very proud of her and I saw her get to the altar and I wanted her to go on and on, so it's beautiful and it was one of the happiest moments of my life.
I was glad to be with things, I finally mean it. It took a long time to get there, we finally arrived. Lynn and Jamie settled down together and her life fell into a pleasant routine while Jamie worked her daily shift for the post office. Lynn continued with her physical therapy and dream of having children. She now seemed out of the question due to the massive injuries Lynn's body had sustained. There are many reasons not to have a baby. My main concern was Lynn's ability to get through pregnancy and childbirth, but life was full. Lynn and Jamie had each other, their shale dogs, and an exciting new hobby.
Jamie, an avid runner who runs five to ten miles a day, decided that he didn't want to leave Lynn behind using a standard wheelchair. Jamie and Lynn became a team in a familiar place. seen in the neighborhood they soon started participating in races, we were very slow, but yeah, we finished and then, I don't know, I'm sorry, I got the bug. Linn and Jamie even ran in the Chicago Marathon and finished in the top 3% of all runners, but Linn Jamie's love story doesn't end at the marathon finish line in January 1999, seven years after their wedding. Lin and Jamie found out that Lin was pregnant for obvious reasons.
She was diagnosed with a high-risk pregnancy and Lin was carefully monitored by her doctors. she carried her baby to term and we pick up our story on August 23, 1999 at Christ's Hospital in Oakland, Illinois, where of course Jamie had her video camera, this has been having a baby, there I am, how are you after just three hours of labor. a healthy girl parts of annalen marie you were fantastic you were wonderful two days later Lyn and Jamie brought annalen home I love staying for a month it's the most wonderful experience I've ever had I didn't know there could be any joy in the world when it

comes

to feeding the baby and hold her and bathe her and things like that we didn't know until she was on lanolin she was here how that was going to work but it worked well, I've been able to do everything so I'm happy that Anna Lynne has even joined her parents as the third member of the park's family clothing team.
Jamie this is the culmination of a simple love story, a love story with some miracles that I met. the woman of my dreams and I fell in love and got engaged and although we didn't get married for a while because she got hurt he finally married her, I mean, you know, it's been 14 years since we met, but this whole process seems like it happened in an instant and here we have this little baby now and it's just amazing it's beyond amazing Jamie it's a miracle we'll be right back with you.
