Joe Rogan Experience #990 - Jamie Foxx

May 10, 2020
funny, he said wow, not all Donald Trump supporters are racists, but all racists are Donald Trump supporters, that could, it definitely woke up that side, but I will, I will, but I will say this like I said, perception affects us everyone too, yeah, you know, because like my daughter, it was interesting, my oldest son. I know my oldest daughter, like when, when the election happened and when you found out the results came in, Dad, I'm so angry I can't take it. I said well, what are we going to go to in March? I said, well, right? everyone votes, not everyone, but you know, I said well, you know you have to get out of it because her perception was that she had it in the bag, right?

You know what I'm saying, so you have to go out and be, you know whatever. that's yeah, whatever it is, in fact, there are strange moments for everyone, you know, because I think social media allows people to express themselves and everyone expresses themselves and people form groups, you know they're like they're Progressives or Are they liberal or are they conservative and everyone has a voice? Does everyone have a voice? There are so many voices. I will say this, maybe you can appreciate this because we live, we live. We are living in Two Worlds, we lived when it was not here and we live, it is discretion.

More Interesting Facts About,

joe rogan experience 990 jamie foxx...

Social media allows you to have no discretion, you can go in and write what you want to say and usually that's what we pay attention to. The discretion is this, we are sitting at the table and I said something that you didn't like, but the discretion was, I'll get to it later, so now that you don't have any discretion, anyone's voice can be heard, not everyone's. How do you say? Not everyone is right that we should hitch all of our cars to what I noticed is that we will hitch our cars to the most extreme point and it may only be 25,200 people, like when my friends beat me up and Tell me, man, do you listen to what they say about so and so I said how many views it got. 880,000 views.

I said that's 8 million people in Philadelphia alone, why are you listening to those 80,000 people? So you have to put balance in the the way you look at it makes sense makes sense yeah, well the way I try to communicate it to people if you run into a room and there are 100 people in that room, what are the odds? of a person being an idiot? 100% true, one person in almost every room of a random group of 100 people and I'm being very very polite, one person, that means probably a few, probably a few, but let's go with one in 100, which means that there are three million. idiots in this country, sure, straight idiots, non-fixable idiots, yeah, yeah, so if you're going to read comments, you're opening yourself up to that if you're going to let your opinion be swayed by people who just want to see.
joe rogan experience 990 jamie foxx
If they can affect you I just want to see if they can touch you they can touch you just see if they can change they make you change the way you dress and that's what I don't like that's the part I don't like so I tell all my artists and All my friends, don't change, don't read it because what happens is that everyone starts to color within the lines and now no one is dangerous anymore, right? Naked, you know, just dancing at the Grammy like everything's fine, you know, what I hope, well, what I always say, just don't put your art in, don't put your art in for the comments because we'll be done. having nothing having nothing to celebrate that's good like having something to celebrate someone made a song that was great or a movie that was great or went out of the box as opposed to what we love to celebrate, which is madness, right?
You know? What I mean, yeah, well, especially for comics, yeah, it's because it's one if you make a crazy movie, there's a lot of people involved, yeah, if you're on stage and you say something, it's just you, yeah, well , I have it. I'm going back out, so it's about to happen. I'm going to hand out a bunch of gift baskets because I'm going out again and you know how much time you took off. Actually, I never will. They removed me because I still do concerts like I have a concert tomorrow in St. Louis, you know, a private concert, whatever, but you know, as a comedian, you have to live like me.
I just can't jump up and start talking. or write jokes like I've lived through some crazy thing, so I have to come out and talk about it, you know, if I hadn't been like oh because the only thing I hate is the only thing that's hard for a comedian is to be successful. because we talk from a positive point of view and I have to have a little bit of anger and I have to make fun of it a little bit and if I become that, what if I become the thing I make fun of? So I can't help it. why in my house do people come to my house my daughter used to ask me this Dad why is there nothing in this room I said I don't want to complete the house because it gives me the feeling that I'm still trying to continue as I never want I don't put Like all the pictures nothing is perfect in my crib there's a curtain right now that's open in my room they're like what's going on with Jake Fox man what's going on? about if you don't get them check man what's going on and I just said I have to leave it at that.
I keep my house as a kind of dysfunctional mansion. I'm talking about that, the dysfunctional mansion where there is always someone like the other. night there's Odell Beckham in my house uh battle dancing Chris Brown you know what I'm saying who does that you know what I'm saying it's just happening in my house all the time so I can have something to link my you know, hitch my wagon of comedy so that you, you, create Chaos on purpose, somehow, I just leave it a little messy, I, I, no, I don't withdraw from it, I don't withdraw from it, I don't understand. behind the doors behind the doors it's the worst behind the doors behind the doors when you're behind the doors when you get to a certain point and you're behind the doors you can't really see I'm out I have to go out with the people I have that having people like me I had a gambling party, right, 3,000 people in my house counted Jesus, people at the door, you know, trying to get in, and as I look through the party, there's Floyd Mayweather All Time and You know, what's up, J Fox?
What's up baby? How are you doing all the time? You have the race party. I love you baby. You know the fight is coming. J. You know? So there's Floyd, there's Fat Joe, there's little Kim on stage performing and then I look around and I see some of the friends like real guys, like what's up Fox, hey, this is a nice party here because I loves. I'm like, oh, so it's all these mixes of people that I can still play. Hang out with people from my community, uh, her. Her name is Ana, she's like the unofficial mayor of our cities, an old white woman from Germany and she's at the dance to dance with Snoop.
Oh I love it. Snoopy, that's great. Snoopy is so good with weed. I don't know. crazy, so I keep it that way so I can stay loose, so when I go out I have something I can talk about from the neighborhood to the White House, so you still manage to remain a normal person. but how is it a difficult thing for someone who achieved as much success as you, it's not an easy balancing act to stay normal because you have to feel overwhelmed by requests and people who just want your time and want to get hooked on you and you.
I have to look, I think what helps me are the failures, like making a couple of movies, don't you know what that was?, you know what I'm saying, like Dam Fox, you know what I'm saying, going through the TSA, you don't they talk. your movie came out and they don't even make eye contact come on okay move on damn the movie so either you just get the TSA damn Fox what are you doing baby what was that the last dog? I had to look at that in a nutshell, you know what I'm saying, oh, so it's like you appreciate those rights, what keeps you regular, keeps you humble and, and you just have to look at other people and see how. people in our business, when they get behind the doors, you know you've seen comics that have that Thousand Mile look and they don't want, I'm not funny anymore, yeah, why you're not funny anymore, that's how you came about.
I want to be sexy now you know what I'm saying everyone falls for sexy you know N I want to stay fun keep my teeth goofy keep my head looking goofy like my hairline whatever because that's what I draw when I go out because People can feel it, don't you think? Oh yes yes. I think stand-up is in a way a mind meld or mass hypnosis, like you connect with the audience and there's something false about what you're doing. thinking or what you're saying some of them at least can feel it yeah sometimes all of them but some can feel it and they will with the energy of the room but if you're in the rhythm you're really being That's why when you see to Dave on stage, one of the things about Chappelle is that he's always himself, he can be himself and so you relax as an audience member and you slip right into his mind and he takes you on a journey. because he is himself.
No, he's not turned off by fame and celebrity and in that way he was great, he passed up all that money and just went to Africa and settled in and then came back and didn't do any scheduled concerts for years. with a speaker and I set up a speaker in a park like Seattle and I just gathered a crowd and started doing stand-up, yeah man look but that's what I'm saying, it's like how do you find out that he realized ? Don't know. how he did well, I'm okay with that because like I said, yes success can sometimes be our coffin, especially when you like it, I said when you're a comedian, even down to the way I handle it, like uh. like social media is interesting like you know me something new about it and what people see like I'm uh and this is a little off topic but I was um just talking about how people see you.
I went to the gas station. and I put on these sunglasses and then I took a photo of them. I thought it was awesome. I needed some, just buy some, you know, $14 whatever and I put them on. I took a picture with him and my Instagram blew up like, Do you know what this is? I read the comments like, man, where do you get the sunglasses, man, those Ferro Gucci, you know what I'm saying, what are those dogs, hey, let me light that fire? I thought, wow, those are just gas station sunglasses, but everyone thought, Do you know anything else?
And I was like, "I don't want you to think I spent $2,000 on a shade because we always lose our shades anyway." I actually hit my guy D and, uh, Dave Shatenstein. I said, listen, I want to make some glasses, and they say, well, what do you want to make? Do you want to go? I said no, no, no, I want to make glasses that cost less than $30. I said, but what we're going to do is go through every frame and make sure every frame is adjusted like it's amazing because I told you the story of being at the gas station and they said, Wow, I think that's a good idea, so we ended up doing this whole line.
I went through the 200 frames and we made this line. It's called pre Revo, right, and everyone thought it was something else. $30, $30, Shades and now even JLo Bella. Thorne, all these other people are wearing sunglasses because what we noticed when we did it was that people accepted it a little more because we did a commercial and it was that we almost made a mistake by putting on the clothes and telling people how much the clothes. cost and people got discouraged because jeans were like $400, a jack jacket was 2000, they liked what and didn't, what we were trying to say was that even though these clothes cost this, our glasses only cost 30 dollars, so I take that story in itself. and go with that and say like I'm not the guy that buys the high end, you know, right stuff, I want to keep it fresh and regular, you know what I'm saying, yeah, does that make sense?
Yes, I really know. Rich guy who drives a truck, he's rich and he just likes driving a shitty old Toyota truck. He likes it and why do you do that because he wants to feel normal, normal, he wants to feel dirty, you want to feel normal. sometimes he doesn't wash his hands he has dirt under his nails he pretends he's a farmer and he can buy the whole world it's just that people are weird like that man so we have to balance both because I because you know you know how to be, you know how to be Urban, I have to go out and shine at some point too like my boy did.
You know, we go out and show a little bit of success. You know what I'm saying just to let people know that we're still here. doing our I love the expression being Urban I'm Urban I'm a how did that happen? How did you become Urbano? What year was it? I'm actually joking like he's black. I tell people this all the time. m an ni i c c a Nica all the time if I lose if I lose being that if I lose being that then I don't have to have that you know what I'm saying it makes sense oh totally yes I have to have that yes no, I have it, you have to have it all, yeah, why not, it's fun too, right, yeah, it's fun too, but I have to have that part, I have to always have that kind of I can't leave, I can't leave.
Where I come from because that's what they're trying to take away from me, that's why we did it, we made the TV show, Chris Spencer and his friend Lewis. I wrote this, I wrote this amazing script called White Famous and White Famous was about a comedian who, you know , tries to become mainstream without losing its, you know, fell asleep Like, oh really, I was up, yeah, so it's like you know having that allows me to create and then I have my own little space that I go to. Okay, let me get this now, let me, they responded to that and now let me.
I put this together here in a small space so that you have like a little Sanctuary. I have a little studio that I set up where I go in and do everything you know, but it helps me listen, man. I know you gotta get out of here, you're only here for an hour, right, yeah man, but it's been great, man, listen, you're an amazing person and I'm so, I'm so honored to have you. I'm here because you're one of the few people I know who has a complete life but also a very balanced life, like you've had incredible success and all these different things, but you're as normal and approachable as anyone. you know when it came to be, you know who I have to be, why you, because you are a speaker of Truth and we haven't seen each other in a long time, but the only thing in your opinion will always be sincere, so you know.
We come from a different era, there are certain people that want the real truth to come from you, Rock Chappelle, all these guys, so we came up, so when we do our art or when we do whatever we do, yeah, it's always going . Being those people that you know rock with you but you want to meet the people that have a real really artistic opinion, does that make sense? Yeah no I know and if you hear them say I that's okay with that I get it if JR says that's okay then I know and they said why do you say that because that tells you he'll tell you that's crazy , you know what I'm saying and then he'll kick your ass, you know what I'm saying. so you have to be, you know you have to be precise with this because I know when I meet those guys like you want to have that favor, does that make sense?
I know exactly what you're saying, yes, stay very attentive. high level you have people on your mind right now that when you're doing your thing you know if everyone's yelling like oh we love you but if that person says maybe this or maybe that you're doing fine yeah you know what I'm saying people it's going to be h% real yeah yeah so there you go you're a bad Jamie Fox thanks bro and you're fine too honey okay and uh they told me to say previous Revo look at those how we arrived? you get those amazon.com previous Revo you lose your clothes you never lose your glasses man and they're all of them they're 29.95 and there they go there they go ladies and gentlemen peace
