Is the Tesla CyberTruck Worth it?! - A Truck Owners Thoughts

Jun 07, 2021
So

truck

s are some of the most useful vehicles on the planet. They can carry as many people as a car, but they can carry more cargo than a car and carry more weight than a car. Personally, I have been a

truck

er for the past 10 years driving a 2018 Toyota Tacoma, but today that could all change. I'm here at Tesla headquarters in California because Tesla has an event to announce a new pickup truck. Betty Long calls it a cyber truck and if the rumors are true, it could very well blow everything else out of the water and I'm very excited.

I think it's time to see what this truck is all about. Let's get started. There are two indisputable truths. One, the truck guys really like their trucks and two, a lot of people, including them. Truckers still think electric cars are glorified golf carts, so to win the hearts of the millions of fossil fuel-powered truck

owners

, Tesla must come out strong with this new cyber truck, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, took the stage and explained that trucks have looked the same for the last 100 years, nothing has really changed and it's true, just like horses and buggies stagnated until powered vehicles came along for gasoline.

Gasoline-powered vehicles have also been stagnant for a while, making this perfect timing. For a new era of vehicles, enter the cyber truck, definitely something no one has seen before. Elon said this would look like an armored truck from the future and he's tone deaf. The old school retro vibe threw me off for a second, but the simple, minimalist stainless steel. The design quickly won me over as someone who likes to build things in my garage. I'm kind of glad that it looks like it was built in someone's garage. The stainless steel reflective panels are unpainted. I'm sure they could be at some point.

Elon goes on to explain that the truck is designed with an exoskeleton design instead of a body-on-frame design like a normal truck, which is quite interesting, it is made of cold-rolled stainless steel, the metal used in the cyber truck. It is the same alloy used in a starship rocket. There was a pretty brutal truck durability test on stage that I thoroughly enjoyed. I heard the sound both doors make when Franz, the lead designer, hits it with a mallet. They even went so far as to say that the tough cold rolled stainless steel panels could stop bullets, which is interesting now, normally cars would come with some kind of crumple zone on the front for pedestrian safety and I'm not sure if these dashboards provide that, but I'm sure we'll learn more in the future.

Elon calls glass windows, a transparent metal. I would love to learn more about the durability tests of clear metal that didn't go very well because glass is glass and glass breaks. I spoke to an employee after the presentation, who said things were being thrown at him. The glass several times before the actual event began, so this window could have been compromised. You know how your cell phone could break after dropping just a foot, since some small fracture or imperfection probably existed before your small fall. The truck has its own. Automatic adaptive air suspension that can raise for off-road use or lower for highway use.
It has a ground clearance of 16 inches, the highest of any production truck on the market for reference. My own dick oma has a free stock height of nine and a half inches. I even added an aftermarket lift to bring me up to 13 inches, so 16 inches of ground clearance is pretty impressive right off the assembly line. However, trucks are meant to be tools and specs are important and once again the cyber truck outperforms my tacoma by almost twice what it has. 14,000 pounds of towing capacity while my Tacoma has 6,800 and again the electric cyber truck doubles my acceleration with 2.90 260 while my Tacoma has 6.8 seconds from 0 to 60, has the speed of a sports car and the body of a tank Of course, that's all. electric and this truck bed has charging outlets to run power tools, act as a generator or even charge other electric vehicles like the new electric four wheeler or other Tesla or electric cars.
Elon also hinted that the air suspension could even be put to good use. For air tools, there are three versions of this truck. I've been comparing my Tacoma to the more expensive, maxed out version that costs $69k and comes out in 2022, but there is a cheaper version that costs $39k and basically has the exact same range and acceleration specs that my Tacoma has in this moment and will be out in 2021. The price is competitive with the current price of trucks. However, keep in mind that electric cars are cheaper in the long run. Electricity is cheaper than gasoline or diesel.
Combine that with no oil changes, no emissions and the cost of operations is simply lower overall over the life of the truck, the price gets better and better. The cyber truck with a maximum price of 69 thousand dollars has a range of 500 miles, which is the most of any electric vehicle currently announced on the market at this time I could travel inside this contraption. The truck is quite minimalist, which I am a fan of. I remember before I bought my new 2018 Tacoma, I was driving a 20 year old 1998 Tacoma. did the job for me the utility of the truck is more important than the appearance of the truck a truck is a tool the cyber truck has a slightly larger footprint than my Toyota Tacoma combined that with this 16 inches of ground clearance and I could definitely feel the difference.
There is a drop-down platform cupholder between the two front seats. It can also be raised to convert the front row into a bench to seat six people. It also has a large screen in the center comparable to the current one. Tesla Model 3, the stainless steel reflective panels on the sides are pretty iconic, the truck doesn't really look like anything else on the road right now and there isn't any other truck out there. We are ushering in a new era of technology, the Model T was the first gasoline-powered truck. 100 years ago and fossil fuel vehicles have come a long way before they stabilized, now this cyber truck is starting a new era of electric trucks and it will be fun to watch and see where electric vehicles end up.
See the truck bed here with the LED. dashboard lights, illuminated light bars on the inside and there is also an LED light bar on top that does not reflect on the hood of the vehicle which is super nice, literally and figuratively we are opening a path to go looking a new peak that I have prepared. I ordered this cyber truck, it costs $100 to keep your spot in line and is fully refundable, so I figured I'd have a head start before I have to officially decide in 2020 that 500 miles of electric range is attractive to drive. I feel more like a prototype than an actual truck right now and that's probably because the release date is still pretty far in the future and a lot can happen between now and 2020: Vivian has a truck that's supposedly coming out on next year in 2020 and Ford and GM.
They have also tentatively teased electric trucks. Remember that the smartest thing you can do with your money and for the environment is to drive the vehicle you currently own until it dies, fix it and move on, but if it's time you get a new electric platform. It could be the future, a new era is coming and I think it looks pretty good. Feel free to tag me in the memes on Twitter and Instagram and I think they're pretty funny. Let me know what you think of the truck in the comments. Thank you very much for watching and we'll see you around.
