Is the 2021 Toyota Camry TRD the BEST sport sedan for the price?

May 31, 2021
Hey guys, what's up? I'm Joe Radiy from Ratey's Rides. I'm back here at Wesley Chapel Toyota and I have that high performance version for their midsize

sedan

. This is a

2021

Toyota Camry TRD, but before you get into this four-door

sport

sedan

. Speaking of what's going on here, the mid-size segment of the auto industry is still on fire, even though some big-name players have dropped out of the game, there are brands like Toyota that still think it's smart to produce these sedans because people want buy them. Now that Toyota is that iconic Japanese brand, they want to step up and bring some additional performance and style to the Camry in this Camry TRD.

There are now many options you can choose from if you're looking for a midsize

sport

s sedan in this

price

segment. Go for the Honda Accord Sport with the two liter turbo that is the detuned Type R engine, you could even pay a little more and go for the Accord Touring which will give you not only the D2 and Type R engine but it will also give you adaptive dampers. You could always go with a Mazda 6 turbo and get the carbon edition like the one we featured here on Radius Rides or the new Hyundai Sonata n-line or the Kia K5 GT.

More Interesting Facts About,

is the 2021 toyota camry trd the best sport sedan for the price...

I'm even going to throw in there just for fun the Subaru Wrx even though that's not a midsize

price

and it's in line with all those other vehicles so what I want to know is that Toyota has done enough to make this a true luxury sedan. sports performance and if this is the one to surpass all those competitors. on this

camry

trd and found out right away that you have this metallic black color, it has a blue tint to the metal flake, it reminds me of a bowling ball or a bass fishing boat, so if you like that style you are definitely you're going to like this Camry TRD, starting at the front of the business, you get LED lighting and that seems to be the flavor of all the different brands that at this price in the midsize sedan segment you're going to get LED lighting. headlights you can see the daytime running lights.

I like the size of the headlight housing, nothing too big. Nice long angular cut in the front fascia area and that's something with the

camry

trd you get a totally different front fascia than your standard camry. which is great, the bad news is that we're going to have to drop a big punch right in this corner. They could have done anything else, but what they did was they made this fake vent. This could have been a housing for the fog lights. It's been a functional side air curtain or, God forbid, bringing extra air to the radiator or brakes, but what I love is looking at the split level of the front wing.

I think it really fits the aggressive lines they're going for. This is a fully functional piece, it's not just stuck on with double-sided tape or gum; In fact, they tested it in a wind tunnel to give you a little bit more downforce because the performance is going to taste different than maybe what you might have. We're not used to it now that we encounter the front grille area with this generation of the Camry, they definitely kept it from looking like a refrigerator. If you look at the previous generation, this Camry looked quite bland, although very, very aggressive, you have this functional.
The grille area on top is this metallic black, the gloss black matches very well and then in a big massive opening in the lower grille you can see the front lip splitter that extends with that nice gloss and then Of course, with the form. The hood really falls nicely into the front fascia. Now when we go up to the hood, you'll notice that you have some interesting body lines, we have some rises on each side that go up to the eight pillars and then they will take the body lines that come off the front fascia take it up to the hood and then take it. they let it curve and it just disappears, very, very aggressively and when you compare this to the competition, I think it's definitely a lot more aggressive than the Accord, a lot more aggressive than the mazda6 I still think the bottom line of the sonata and definitely the kia k5 gt are bringing some extra aggression but let's see what else we have as we come into the corner you'll notice the body like I said has the red trim because it's a trd and they run it all the way down the side to channel that air when you're going camry trd you get unique wheels so this is a 19 inch wheel it's actually lighter than the standard camry wheel.
You can see the trd badge. I love the plan. Black that kind of Y spoke design looks really cool and I really love that you'll have extra braking so it's not just about performance under the hood there are other ways to get performance and that's how Toyota made this Camry Trd . They are giving you bigger brakes, an inch bigger, so you are looking at 13 inch rotors, you will have larger brake calipers and you will get lowering springs, this Camry actually sits almost an inch lower than your standard Camry. They're TRD springs that will reinforce the sway bars and the sway bars and you'll get extra reinforcement to really give you that straight connected driving experience.
This is unique. This is something that I don't necessarily get from the competition now, as we go down the side, you'll notice a color scheme on the mirror caps, a little bit of chrome. I don't know why they didn't black it out so I'm going to remove it but I like the way they have those LED turn signals, there's no sunroof so if you're expecting a sunroof you won't get it with the Camry Trd, but what you will get is a very, very aggressive side sill extension. normally it would just be gloss black but the reason it looks like the color matches is because we have a black camry trd, the red trim coming towards the back i love the nice line color combo on that sharpie antenna, they even lift the side on which the side molding is located. the actual fender here channels all that air, so not only do you get the front, but you also get the side sills and also the rear area to channel the air.
I'm going to zonk the fake vents in the back. I don't know why they have that there, but when you get to the rear, what you're going to get that's functional is this functional rear spoiler, actually a very, very unique design, something that will definitely separate it from the competition, especially since it's not a pedestal style, has this drop in the center and then rises up, has the end plates looking very sharp, blacked out on the

toyota

and camry badges, clean on the tail lights, nothing too aggressive or too sexy, nothing to talk about, but of course you are.
You will get your TRD badge and probably one of the most aggressive rear diffusers you have ever seen. It looks like it came straight out of his Lama-winning race car and you'll have a TRD cat-back exhaust, so the good news is you. We'll actually get a little bit better sound and when we say cat-back we're not talking about mewing, there's an exhaust connected to your cat, we're talking about a catalytic converter towards the back of the car and I like that trumpet. nice stainless steel exhaust style that looks really very aggressive, but when we open the hood and see what that exhaust is going to make sound, we open it up, you have a support rod, I'm going to zonk that and it's interesting because some of the competitors They have support rods and some don't, so one of those things just to point out under the hood.
I'm also a little disappointed by the engine cover. They could have done a little more since this is a camry trd, but what you are getting is the only naturally aspirated option that is available with the competition, so what you are looking at is a 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 no turbocharger or supercharger, that's what we mean by you get an eight-speed automatic transmission bolted to like I said, 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque will really be a good linear balance of power delivery. Vehicle weighs 3572 pounds 0-60 about 5.7 seconds top speed 135 miles per hour mpgs 22 city and 31 highway, a very very unique setup for how Toyota goes.
Once upon a time you could get a TRD with a supercharged V6 which would have been a nice little extra touch, but why don't we move on? We shoot this. above because it has a cat-back exhaust and I want to hear how it sounds, alright guys we're on the

2021

camry trd we're talking about what's the

best

midsize sport sedan for the price in this segment even launching in the wrx and I know that You're saying to yourself, well, joe, you're a genius, you're a fucking genius. I've been thinking about this question hoping you would bring this up because there are so many to choose from in this medium size. segment how much is this camry trd because you definitely got me interested, if you ask me I tell you the msrp is right at 33,000 let's see what you get for the money for the door panel so you will get a soft touch material. the door panel in 2021 is getting a little bland now it's fine with the silver trim there is a bug right on the door but we'll continue by the way the bug is not included a fancy silver trim some gray brass around the switch gear for the windows and the door closes the door pocket, although maybe three pop-tarts or toasted strudels and a really very small little juice box or a small container of milk, that's it, going from the door panel to the dash, I like it.
The styling here really is something that separates it from the rest. It has a gunmetal gray finish. There is a little bit of this shiny black but it has so many metal flakes that it actually hides your fingerprints. Soft touch material. I love the red stitching. and it's super smooth now for 2021 there is a new infotainment system area this is new for 2021 even on the camry trd the bad news is when you go to trd you get the smaller system this is a seven-inch screen you can't get it on the tara d camera, but if you opt for other trim levels, you could get a new 9-inch system.
I like this system much better than the one they had before. It is small. I know you've probably heard that once or twice. twice before, but this screen is definitely smaller, it doesn't have navigation, but it does have Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Let me go ahead and show you the rearview camera. It comes off at seven inches, so the good news is if you have seven inches. You'll be able to use the seven inches to the fullest and remember it's a touchscreen which is good, put it back in park and we'll be back again, that metallic finish would have been nice to have a bright red. start stop button trd you have your standard air conditioning control so no dual climate.
I hope you're keeping a checklist because if you look at the honda accord, mazda6, sonata and k5 they all have dual climate control and at this price I could even throw in navigation just for the heck of it but it's easy to use . I'm not the biggest fan of this strange split section of squiggly lines on the Camry. I've never liked it, even when they release this generation, but what I like is that you have USB, you have 12 volts and I like the way there are doors, there is no wireless charging, so you could use this.
You could put five twinkies in there. Your phone will go off, but you can eat some open twinkies. that up and then you'll have a nice little cubby area, it's not a felt line so I wouldn't put the hope diamond in there because it'll probably get scratched and you'll lose value, but that closes two cups up nicely. brackets this is going to control that 8 speed automatic transmission trd red stitched it even says trd on it in case you forget you bought a camry trd I'll put it back in park so we don't leave with Lori hanging off the passenger side keychain it's boring that's all I can say it's a zonk it reminds me of the early alarm key fobs like in the 1990's the ones that made like 32 different sounds um and it doesn't say trd on it if so if you're giving me the extra touches, go all in or do nothing.
I like the finishes here. I like the way it is gunmetal gray so there are no fingerprints. You get your three different mode buttons and then you have this kind of Rubbermaid style armrest, it's semi-soft which is nice and then bam, now you have some felt lining, you have two USBs, one is a USB and the other is a USBC so it's a nice addition and the great news is you can put your snickers here and not scratch your nuts and your snickers what you will get is this nice headrest with the trd embroidery of course we have red seat belts hashtag auto de races and we have the red lines, I'm really not a big fan of the seat style, if you've seen the Avalon TRD those are the seats I wish were here.
Manual adjustment for the passenger. I have power assist and plenty of head room but no sunroom so I don't know how. you're sorry about it, but that could be a deal breaker in your book, but that's your book and I'm not going to read it. Why do not you come here? Although I want to show you behind the wheel of this camera. Alright, guys. time behind the wheel there are now some nice touches in the footwell, forof course you'll get those camry trd floor mats which are good for five extra horsepower maybe seven if you're lucky with the tailwind we've got the aluminum brake and accelerator pedal which is good dead pedal kinda smooth, it would have been nice if they had fixed it now, when we look at the competition, the accord has aluminum pedals which you can also get of course on the mazda6 wrx, that can't be done and from what I remember that not even the sonata n-line nor the kia k5 gt have any kind of aluminum pedals but the seats feel good they are really comfortable you have power driver assistance including the lower lumbar steering wheel it's a mixed bag I like the leather and the stitching Red ones remind me of a baseball that Pete Rose signed for me once, but uh. the horn button is just atrocious, it's not sexy, it's definitely not trd, so it's a major problem.
You have these paddles on the back of the steering wheel to shift the eight-speed automatic transmission up and down, and then you get a lot of gauges. of analog, so analog attack, analog speedometer, fuel gauge and coolant gauge, and that's a 4.2-inch digital screen in the center. I like the analog gauges, especially the way they're that bright red color, but compared to the competition, you might just like what they are. especially with larger digital screens, but why don't we go in the back seat and see how this compares to the competitors? Alright guys, backseat time and this is where it really proves that midsize sedans are still around and still very usable.
There's a lot of room back here, just like the competition, it's going to be very difficult to decide who has more passenger room, especially in the back seat, but I have a lot of headroom, which is amazing, soft material seats and nice around big pockets, so what? what you could put here is maybe like Simon says, you can even put it as a travel size monopoly. The only warning I have for you is that if you play Monopoly on a family road trip, expect your family members to hate each other, but you know what maybe? They already hate each other, so maybe that's a good thing, but here's a nice sized tray of twinkies.
You could easily fit four twinkies, meaning two per person, in the back seat, unless you have a weirdo in the middle. I could give them half a twinkie. We have two USBs and it is illuminated with a blue LED light that lets you know that you will always be able to find your way with your charge here on my side. I have my own pocket here. We're not going to put any board games in here, uh, I don't know what the hell I want to put in there right now, a back scratcher because I got itchy from a mosquito that bit me in this Camry TRD, they weren't good seats.
Although just as comfortable in the front, there are no armrests, so if you're lucky you have a younger sibling or someone weaker than you sitting in the back seat, put them in a headlock and use them as armrests. Let's move on, though let's go to the trunk and see. what kind of space do we have in this camry, okay guys let's go to the rear trunk area of this four door sedan. This really shows that they know better than to need an off-roader. They can still opt for a sedan. This white Toyota still makes the Camry.
Look at this nice huge opening, it's got a deep cargo floor in there and of course we've got some necessary Camry Trd cargo mats that will add another five extra horsepower so when you add that with the mats inside the car to your passengers and you are really getting a lot of extra performance out of your mats, but anyway what you are getting in the truck's performance is 15 cubic feet of space, the nice thing is that of course the seat will be able to fold down. You'll be able to get some nice longer items in there and when you look at the competition Camry it brings it in terms of trunk space, so if you're ready, I'm ready, let's go haul the mail with throttle style in this Camry TRD.
Alright guys, we're leaving the Toyota Wesley Chapel. We're in this 2021 Camry TRD. I have it in sport mode which will adjust the throttle sensitivity and steering inputs, but as we go along, let's do a little bondage. I'm going to put the manual shift mode with the paddles in first gear in the file. Here we are doing well with the brakes. Look how they curve nice and flat. Speed up again. A really very smooth power delivery and that's the advantage you'll get. outperform the competition with this camry trd look at these brakes feel good the way the car communicates from front to back is well sorted and stays planted so you will definitely get a faster cam even though we don't have the power additional which I will say it would be nice to have around 400 horsepower, maybe 350.
I'll settle for 350. I'll stop being greedy, sorry I was being greedy, maybe we won't get the 400 horsepower, but 350 .horsepower would really go a long way with this vehicle and make it something very special - you won't get extra power, but you will get extra performance from all the different tweaks they made, from the suspension, to the brakes, to the handling. It will make you faster and the way the car communicates with you from front to back allows you to feel safer. Visibility is excellent on the vehicle, from front to back you can see just a little bit of that TRD rear spoiler. a u-turn is obviously going to be easy in this thing, they're comfortable, I just wish there was a little more, a little more to the interior, at least give you the nine-inch infotainment system from the start.
It would be a very, very nice touch on this whole system, but let's move on. Put it back into manual shift mode. First gear with accelerator. Here we go really nice and smooth. You can feel how much more balanced it is than your standard camera. Now we compare. a wrx is obviously going to eat its lunch, even the honda accord um, especially the Turing with the adapted shocks, it's really going to be tough competition, but once again, ah wow, here we are going to brake, I love this one transition shown here. the balance in that chassis is super smooth, look at that and then that power delivery, that low end torque that you get and it runs through the entire rev range, whereas with the turbocharged engines you're going to be waiting a little bit.
I like the improved ones. The infotainment system especially hits it, but it would be nice to have the nine-inch system in this Camry Trd, but overall it's definitely worth a look, especially at this price, thirty-three grand puts it right on the turbo two-liter sports car. I've been mentioning the Honda Accord Touring, but that's a thirty-six thousand dollar vehicle, but we're back at Wesley Chapel Toyota, so let's just wrap this up and I'll see you guys in a split second, guys, it's been another great day. here at Wesley. chapel

toyota
