I made this video a while ago and after almost 200,000 views and 600 comments, it became clear that the majority of human civilization didn't understand the point I was trying to get across with this video, which I'm sure is entirely my fault. This comment appeared on the The other day I thought I would just respond with another video. The comment basically asks. After all this time, do you still think Holly Ufi is the

best

option? No, I don't actually know what you're talking about, man, point. What I was trying to say earlier was that I thought Holly was necessarily the

best

ECU, was that Holly is the best ECU for me and for a lot of other people too.

Honestly, I would assume that Holly probably doesn't even think her ECU is the best ECU, uh, what the hell let me explain? In my opinion, there really is no such thing as the best ECU, otherwise there wouldn't be so many ECU manufacturers and ECU models, there would only be one. I'm sure anyone watching this now has mtac. you're about to have a baby now, what I meant by not thinking your ECU is the best is because the best ECU will have the most tunability, the most features, the most integration and all that kind of stuff that They usually make it extremely difficult to learn how to use it and it is also very expensive.

I don't like. There are so many different ECU manufacturers because they all target their own specific things that make them the best choice for those specific needs. You could argue it's a Lamborghini. It's a better vehicle than a Ford F-150, but if you need to buy a lot of building materials, the lambo was no longer the best option and that goes for ECUs if you need a specific thing and the ECU doesn't. If you don't do that then it won't be the best option for you and if you don't need specific things it doesn't make much sense to pay for them and add all that complexity to the ECU if you just need something basic. and on top of all that there is so much preference from a comparison standpoint they are very similar but some guys go and get chevy camara tattoos and some guys get ford mustang tattoos and just like the cars the Guys will pick an ECU they like and stick with it until the day they die, just like all other things in life every system tends to have its pros and cons.

The first example that comes to mind is everyone with fuel technology, I'll let you know. that its traction control is included and not a paid upgrade like it is for Holly, but somehow the fuel Tech Guys ignore the fact that Holly's broadband is built in and not an add-on like it is with the Fuel Tech. Wire control is free and most other ECUs will actually have wire drive as a paid upgrade and you know almost every ECU out there will have better knot control than Holly. I could go on with these types of comparisons for hours.

With the different ECU models that Holly has, it is very clear that they are aimed at customers who are potentially absolute beginners with EFI and those who want a capable ECU but still want it to be relatively simple to use, you don't need to know how. program spaceships to get your car to start for the first time, so if you meet any of those criteria then Holly may be the best ECU for you, okay that's a bit, but I wouldn't necessarily say that means it makes it in the best ECU overall. The staggering number of cars running Holly EFI shows that its target market is significantly larger than those looking to purchase a more complex and expensive system.
Can you imagine if I told someone with a Holly Sniper that they had to write their own firmware and then build an entire motor harness from scratch along with adding 30,000 fully customizable boards, sales would immediately drop to exactly zero, simple, affordable and easy to use, it is the best option for a much larger number of people, it is good. competition than for those looking for a more capable but more complex, harder to use, harder to learn and much more expensive system, and to be clear, I'm not trying to convince anyone to use Holly or anything like that .
I don't even sell Holly and to prove that point they actually closed my distributor account for not selling enough stuff so I don't care what you buy I'm just trying to help those who maybe are on the fence and give it a try. to figure out what system they want, I've had a lot of luck with Holly over the years, but I also work on things that are very compatible with Holly, so again for me and my clients it works very well, so this is one of my personal cars. I installed a Holly Dominator ECU in this car and although there are more sophisticated things, it does everything I needed it to do and has enough inputs and outputs that I will never have to worry about running out.
I'm aware that I think the Dominator ECU has the most inputs and outputs of any ECU I've come across without having to add extra boxes or anything like that, which seems to set the Dominator apart from a lot of other options. there, but anyway I put Holly in this car specifically for the purpose of training others on how to use their Holly EFI systems, so even though this thing has had Holly installed probably every few years or so, it's really only I have driven this car once. aside from the dyno, so looking back I probably should have bought a $100 car for that, but either way, once we've watched hundreds and hundreds of different training videos, we'll be able to pull this out and have some fun.
As it stands now it's just a naturally aspirated LS2 and again once I can get it out of the shop here I'll take it home and we'll put a couple of turbos on it and that'll make it a lot more fun now if this car was a newer year, everything on this car that you know on the factory side would be all through the Porsche bus and using Holly on this car wouldn't really be an option if you wanted any of the rest of the car worked, so when I was looking for a of these things I made sure to go with a 99 uh instead of a 2000 plus uh just so I could put essentially any ECU in here that I wanted and everything worked great.
Now, just to chat, there are a couple of other cars I've been eyeing for a while. In fact, I'd end up with non-Holly ECUs if I ever decided to pull the trigger on one to not be married. Holly, I only use it when it makes the most sense, so again, if this were a bus car then we would have to use a different ECU that has that type of compatibility, so H is definitely not the best solution for all applications , so yes I think there are possibly better systems out there Why do I do so much with Holly?
There are many reasons, actually, the main reason is that there is so much. I literally tuned a car with Hol EFI and basically overnight we became a Holly UFI. buying almost accidentally and considering that I feed my family tuning cars, it makes a lot of sense to me to choose a system that has many potential customers. I've been in situations in the past trying to use other ECUs that weren't. It wasn't very popular and it was like pulling teeth trying to get clients because no one knew the system, so it wasn't exactly the best option. A lot of this is due to this YouTube channel and I think location has a lot to do with it. do with that too, but I'll probably get contacted with something crazy like 300 to 1 uh, you know, EFI cars versus other ECUs when people are looking to tune their stuff, that's crazy, the next most popular things would be HP tuners, obviously there are a million cars with factory ECUs, that's not really my favorite kind of thing to do, then Hondata because we used to make tons and tons of Honda in the past and then probably followed by Fuel Tech and then beyond that There just isn't much interest. on something specific some people look for motch stuff from time to time ECU Masters here and there almost nothing for professional EFI a bit of Mega pain and what surprises me a bit is that there is not much interest in the haltech htech someone jumped on my cousin I call it htech which gives a in another video The Internet is a crazy place but again I don't know if it's just a location thing but there just isn't a lot of popularity with it here and when people ask about it it's almost always like the old stuff Plug-and-play imports, like the early R32 GTRs, got almost nothing for any of the newer systems, so I guess part of what I'm trying to say here is that you know everyone is leaving all these comments trying to convince me why. any ECU you like is better than Holly and I'm not going to argue with you if you use a different ECU and it has the features and the software and everything that you like, that's fine, but I guess ultimately I'm explaining why Holly is the best option for me, the best option for many of my clients, and as long as everyone is happy, that's all that should really matter.
Any advice? Another great part of Holly being so popular is that she is very available. If I needed to borrow a Holly ECU, to test something or whatever the case may be, I could probably borrow 10 different ECUs. here almost immediately or I could get what I needed from so many different places, you know, you can even buy Holly stuff on Amazon, which actually sucks for distributors, but is actually great when you're in a pinch and need something in a hurry . In my opinion, what really sets Holly apart is the ability to find the information you need.
Some of these ECUs, everything is top secret and you can't find anything that can get super frustrating, now that other manufacturers may have better technical support. If you pick up the phone and call, but especially know the time of day or anything else, you won't always have that option, but I feel like everyone knows someone else or several people who uses Holly so frequently. You can talk to other Holly users, which I think is a big help in finding the information Holly has to offer. I think it's like a week-long in-person training, which is really cool.
I personally have a Holly online training course and there is probably a lot more information just posted online about Holly specifically than most other ECU manufacturers. At least from what I've seen personally, talking on the phone is one of the things I fear the most in life, so if I can get the information I need. just searching the internet or texting a friend or something instead of having to hold a stupid phone in front of my face, I'm all for it from the beginning, one of the things that made me put two and two together. Holly, I thought it would be a good idea to get acquainted with my business, is that between the Terminator is that they made three different types of software versions or whatever you want to call them that are very similar, so if you can tune one of those three systems, you're familiar enough to tune all three as well as some of the others.
EC manufacturers have different types of ECU budget lines with their own software and you know sometimes they aren't even similar at all so even though it's the same brand it seems like you have to do it. learning two different systems, Al together, which is a bit annoying, the initial setup with Holly is usually easy and straightforward, although I'm not a big fan of the touch screen and the Assistant setup, uh, I look at it like you know . The big advantage is that most end users can at least plug that thing in, answer a couple of questions on the screen, and at least get the cars started and check for leaks and get them running for the first time. to make sure they're really ready to go to the dyno and tune them, there's nothing worse than someone showing up with a car that never started and you know you turn the key for the first time and you realize you know the thing is even It's not even able to start, so it's a terrible way to spend the day on the dyno.
Another thing I really like about Holly is that the ECU logs all the different channels all the time and you can download a data log and open it. up and see it in a way that makes sense and if you want to change your channels or your Gra WS or something like that, you can do it in 30 seconds, like you feel with some of these other EUS, but the first time you use it. You have to spend 8 hours setting up the data logger before you can use it and they don't record all the different channels, so if there's something called something stupid and you're not familiar with it, you might not have done it. known for clicking on that to register that channel, so when there is a problem, it's not there, you didn't register it, so you know that channel won't be in the actual registration that you downloaded, so now you have to try to recreate the problem , which is not always an option, so the fact that all the information is available every day to register every time.
I really like that feature a lot. Do you understand what I'm saying. Thedisadvantage is that if you are logging in at a high sample rate with a dominating ECU, it can take 45 hours to download the daily log from the ECU, so it's like everything is a give and take, so it probably does like a year I filmed a video comparing HFI to fueltech and if that's something you're interested in seeing, leave a comment below and let me know and if there's enough interest in it I'll finish editing it, that video is longer so I got halfway there editing it and lost interest and thought about going back to it and anyway I never have if you're interested.
