iPhone 15 Buyer's Guide - DON'T BE FOOLED!

Apr 02, 2024
The new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are here with four models that are still very close in price, with 100 separating the iPhone 15 plus and iPhone 15 Pro and with regular and pro phones that have exactly the same screen size, camera systems With similar 48-megapixel and Both come with new USBC ports, the decision about which phone you should buy can be more confusing than ever. Luckily for you, you stumbled upon this video and I'll explain to you not only which iPhone 15 you should buy, but also the differences between them all. of these models and also the mistakes that you should avoid to make sure you get the best iPhone model because there are many things that Apple did not tell you, the first thing that cannot deceive you is the battery life and if you were waiting for the iPhone 15 pro and pro Max will have the best battery life of any iPhone this year, as I did, well you would have been

fooled

by now because that's not actually the case, with one exception because the iPhone 15 Pro still has 120 hertz.

Dynamic refresh rate that can reduce the refresh rate by up to one Hertz, so most of the time when you're scrolling or interacting with your phone, you're using more battery life, and when you're not using your phone, like when By watching it you are saving battery life, so for the Pro models the biggest benefit is when watching videos because the iPhone can reduce the refresh rate if the video is 30 or 24 frames per second at that exact refresh rate , resulting in a longer battery life. life when you watch a video because it doesn't have to run at a full 60 hertz;

More Interesting Facts About,

However, if you look at the official battery life ratings, you'll notice that the iPhone 15 Pro and Promax don't win in audio playback - basically, what that says is that if you have the iPhone screens off while listening to music , then the iPhone 15 and 15 plus will last five hours longer than their iPhone 15 Pro counterparts. Bottom line, don't be

fooled

into thinking about the iPhone 15. The Pro Max has the best battery life just because it's the largest iPhone and expensive, the physical batteries in the regular iPhone 15 models are likely actually larger than those in the 15 Pro models, and depending on how you use your device, you could get more battery.

The life of a regular 15 model now, unlike last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro look very similar to each other thanks to the regular 15 models having the dynamic island and both phones having the same 6. 1 and 6.7 inches this year. They're even closer because both phones can now get up to 2000 nits of peak brightness during outdoor use and both OLED displays look almost identical in terms of display specs, except for a few notable areas. The regular iPhone 15 still has a 60Hz display, while the Pro models have a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. This 120Hz display makes the phones look smoother because the screen refreshes twice as much, which It means that scrolling animations and even video games that use higher frame rates can be viewed. smoother on the iPhone 15 Pro, plus the iPhone 15 still doesn't have an always-on display that Apple introduced last year on the iPhone 14 pro and I think this is especially important this year thanks to Apple's new standby feature that You can turn your iPhone into a smart display when you load it horizontally, luckily one thing that's not as drastic as last year is the weight difference between the phones, this is because Apple switched to a lighter titanium material in the Pro models, making them the lightest Pro models.

However, now the iPhone 15 weighs 171 grams, while the 15 Pro weighs 187 grams and the plus weighs 201 grams compared to the Pro Max at 221 grams, so while the 15 weighs about the same as the 14, the professional phones have dropped about 19 grams. By weight, it's funny because stainless steel was so heavy last year that the 14 plus was actually lighter than a full-size iPhone 14 pro this year, although the iPhone 15 Pro is lighter than the 15 plus model, that It is not the only difference in the design. However, because the iPhone 15 pro has smaller bezels than the iPhone 15 and if you look at the technical specifications, you will even see that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, despite having the same screen sizes as the 15 and the 15 plus actually have smaller dimensions.
Yes, it's not much, but technically the iPhone 15 pro and pro Max are physically smaller devices and I'm glad to know that, especially with that larger Promax model, any size reduction, so I'm grateful for another design difference this year is that the iPhone 15 still has a standard mute switch that has been with us since iPhones existed, but for the first time Apple is removing the mute switch from the iPhone 15 Pro and replacing it with an all-new action button. Now, by default, this still toggles the mute feature on your iPhone, but Apple actually gives you control over this action button to assign it to other functions.
Examples include quick access to voice memos, turning on the flashlight, turning on Do Not Disturb, entering accessibility settings, entering translation, and other features such as quickly. launch the camera and full access to Apple's Shortcut feature, meaning you can actually make the action button perform any command you want on the iPhone 15 Pro. Now, a big change this year for the iPhone is that This year Apple is getting rid of the lightning bolt. port connector that has been on iPhones for the last decade in favor of a new USBC port on both iPhone models and while you would think that there would be nothing to fool around here with both phones with USBC, well, you would be wrong because uh Here is one difference, so the iPhone 15's USB-C port is a bit slow;
It's still only rated for USB 2.0 speeds at 480 megabits per second or literally the same speed as the Lightning cable. The iPhone 15 Pro, on the other hand, gets a much better USBC port and does not suffer from these slower speeds with the iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C port getting 20x faster data transfer speeds thanks to its capable USB 3 port. of 10 gigabit per second now listen if you just use your iPhone stand to charge both All of these ports will do exactly the same thing, but if you are someone who plans to take a lot of photos and videos and then plan to transfer them to your computer for editing, then really You will benefit from them faster. speeds on the iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C port and there's even another benefit to that USBC port on the Pro models that I'll talk about a little later in the photos section of this video.
Now, one thing that is like last year is that the iPhone 15 will not receive the same chip as the 15 Pro; However, unlike last year, the iPhone 14 literally had the same a15 architecture as the iPhone 13. This year there is a difference with the iPhone 15 getting last year's a16 chip. iPhone 14 pro, so it's a small improvement instead of literally sticking to the same chip now that the a16 chip is not far behind, it's super fast and allows for a ton of computational photography features on the iPhone 15 and for everyday use normal. Everyday tasks and even heavy tasks like video editing or photo editing, the iPhone 15 will be fast and will be for years to come, that doesn't mean there isn't any benefit to the iPhone 15 Pro. in fact, there is a big benefit this year because Apple is the first smartphone company to use a new three-nanometer chip process and they are bringing it to the iPhone 15 Pro and this new chip architecture looks really impressive, so impressive that Apple is not.
By calling the chip ca17, they are putting their stake in the ground, they are saying this is the a17 pro chip. Now listen, we still don't know the full power of this chip or even how much it will improve daily performance. about the a16 chip, but I want to go over Apple's specs here because in terms of CPU power, this a17 Pro chip is actually just a modest increase according to Apple with only a performance gain of 10, so yeah, it should be a little faster than the a16 in that department, but that wasn't really the focus of the a17 pro chip because Apple really spent a lot of time going over the immense graphics gains in this new chip and Apple touts a 20x performance increase over the a16 in terms of GPU. power with ray tracing four times faster than the a16 chip now in previous years.
You could say, oh, a better GPU, that could mean some games could take advantage of that GPU power, maybe give you a higher resolution or better frame rates, but no, no, no Apple came. It was amazing here and they literally showed off console level games like Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 remake playing on the iPhone 15 Pro and even promised that the new Assassin's Creed game would be released on the iPhone 15 Pro alongside the PlayStation 5. and the Xbox series real console level games coming to the iPhone I can't believe I'm saying that this alone should weigh heavily in your decision because it looks like these games will only be playable on the iPhone 15 Pro and not the regular models.
Okay, let's finally address the big decision. camera manufacturer, everyone loves a good camera and this year I think both phones will have pretty good cameras, so at first glance it looks like we're getting similar camera systems, at least more similar than what we got last year with the 14 and the 4 14. pro, that's because this year Apple is adding the 48-megapixel camera system to the regular iPhone 15 model, while last year the 14 didn't get it, so the iPhone 15 Not only will you be getting this new 48-megapixel camera system, but it also has improvements. 14 Pros camera system with a new pixel binning mode that, instead of compressing those 48-megapixel shots to 12 megapixels, now reduces the resolution to 24 megapixels, meaning every shot you take with the main camera will have double the resolution now.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro also have new computational photography features, such as Auto Portrait Mode, where if the subject is a person, dog, or cat, the iPhone 15 can automatically capture depth information and you can then choose to view your photo as a portrait yes Basically, every time you take a photo and it can detect a subject, you also get a portrait mode photo that you can then select if you want. I think that's great, since both phones seem to have good camera systems, at least on paper. but there are things that are left out of the regular model 15.
First of all, there is no dedicated zoom lens. Yes, you have the 48-megapixel camera system, so you have access to a 2x sensor crop mode that can simulate a 2X zoom, but there isn't one. 3x or 5x physical lens Secondly, while it has an ultra-wide angle lens, the iPhone 15's ultra-wide angle lens still does not have autofocus and therefore does not have the macro camera mode found on the 15 Pro and while the iPhone 15 does have a 48-megapixel camera system, it doesn't have access to Apple's Pro raw mode, which will allow you to get 48-megapixel Raw photos for more details.
Now don't be too alarmed because you can still get full resolution 48 megapixel photos on the iPhone 15 with a new option called heif photos Max these heif Max photos are basically compressed 48 megapixel photos so they get the resolution of the camera system full 48 megapixels, but not necessarily all the raw data you'd get from Apple's Pro Raw format, which is still exclusive to the 15. Pro, these Heif Max photos will take around 5 megabytes of data per photo, while the pro photo 48 megapixel raw can take about 75 megabytes per photo. It's also important to note that the iPhone 15 Pro will not only have access to Apple's Pro raw, but it still will. get access to this new heif Max mode as well, so while most people won't be using the Apple Pro raw or even this new heif Max mode, it's still true that the iPhone 15 Pro is a much more versatile camera system with the number of formats you can capture not only for photos but also for videos because the 15 Pro still has access to a higher bit rate per video resolution while the regular 15 does not and to top it all off the more USB C port fast iPhone 15 Pro provides it. a new feature where you can now connect to external storage and then record directly to external storage and when you are recording to external storage you can overcome the previous iPhone limitation of 4K 30 frames per second for professional video up to 4K 60 frames per second, so it's cool and a little crazy that we can record videos to external storage on the iPhone 15 Pro.
I wasn't expecting that feature at all,finally let's talk about iPhone 15 Pro versus Pro Max, yes there are some differences. This year, the bigger one is the full-size Pro which still comes with a 3X lens that we've had on the iPhone since the iPhone 13 Pro, while the Pro Max comes with a new 5x lens. Now obviously the 5x lens will be better to get. zoomed-in images of subjects that are further away from your camera, but I think it's important to note that the regular 15 Pro may have a strange advantage here when shooting three at, I guess, 4.9x in this small zoom range , the 15 Pro will be able to use a 3X camera, while the 15 Pro Max will have to rely entirely on Digital Zoom until you get to that 5x camera personally.
I think it's a trade-off I'm willing to make to improve the Zoom, especially given the 2x mode. on these 48 megapixel camera systems, but if you currently like the 3x camera for framing shots that are not necessarily very far away, while you may actually have an advantage here with the regular iPhone 15 Pro over the pro Max, also the 15 Pro also gets the space camera feature which you can then see on the Apple Vision Pro, not sure how many people will actually be affected by this purchasing decision, but hey, if you think you're going to buy an Apple Vision Pro in the future, You might want to get a 15 Pro so you can take space videos.
Another difference is the price and by that I mean the iPhone 15 Pro Max. there is no 128 gigabyte configuration, which means the starting price of this model is 1199 now yes, it is technically the same price as last year's 14 pro Max with 256 gigabytes of storage and the 15 and 15 Pro Max with 256 gigabytes of storage, it's only a 100 price difference but yes, if you really want to save money with an iPhone 15 Pro and you don't really use a lot of physical storage, you can save money and buy a 15 Pro for still $999, talking about storage sizes How much should you get? well, if you go with the regular iPhone 15 models, I think you can make 128 gigabytes of storage work, especially with that new Heif Max mode, so now you can get those photos at full 48 megapixel resolution at about five megabytes By photo, that's not bad. uh, and I know that most people who buy these entry level phones don't really need a lot of storage, but to be safe, I usually like to bump it up to at least 256 gigabytes of storage, but I consider myself a power user, so I think that most people would be fine at the normal storage tier for the Pro models, although listen, I know it's tempting to go for that 9.99 pro model, get 120 gigabytes of storage and save some money, but listen, these phones Pro have a lot of features if you are planning to use the pro camera features on any of these phones, whether it is Pro raw or video prores, if it is video prores you need to get a lot of storage like 512 gigabytes.
Sorry to say the least, but yeah, you should probably increase them. Store charges on the Pro models at 256. I feel like there's a reason Apple made the Pro Max model starting at 256 gigabytes of storage, so that would be my recommendation: I'd spend the extra 100 and at least get a little bump the storage. so you can make sure you can take advantage of all these cool photography features and not have to worry about running out of storage As for which phones you should order, as always, it depends. Last year I said that the updates were really focused on the pro. phones, last year it was all about pro phones and this year I don't think I think the 15 and 15 plus look like very good phones and have updates that interest most people with features that will appeal to most people who I don't need the niche Pro iPhone features, both phones have a similar design now both phones have a 48 megapixel camera system and the differences are less drastic than last year so if you want to save 200 if the exclusive Pro features I mentioned In this video I am not asking you to do it and get a normal iPhone 15.
However, if you are buying the iPhone 15 plus model, I have to be honest and say that I feel that for 100 more, the 15 Pro seems like it is worth the extra money and you get a lot more features for only a hundred dollars more, but hey, I get it, most people only care about a few features and like I said, those iPhone 15 Pro features are kind of niche, they're not for everyone, so the most important features that most people you usually care about the number one screen size so the iPhone 15 plus has a big 6.7 inch screen and then the battery life and yes we talked about it before the iPhone 15 plus has the best battery life battery life of any iPhone model. some of the most popular features when it comes to phones, so if you want to buy an iPhone 15 plus, especially now that if you want to get the bigger iPhone Pro Max, you would now have a 300 price difference between the iPhone 15 plus and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, so in that sense I can see how the iPhone 15 plus is actually more worth it than last year.
That said, I think the iPhone 15 Pro series has a lot of great features that make it worth it. the higher the cost, I love the new titanium frame, the action button, the faster USBC port and I really want to try that 5x lens on the pro Max model and if you are a gamer, I feel that the iPhone 15 Pro is a no-brainer this year and should probably be the one you personally choose. I plan to buy an iPhone 15 Pro Max for myself this year, but let me know in the comments below after watching this video which iPhone you plan to buy.
Also let me know if the video was helpful in deciding between an iPhone 15 and an iPhone 15 Pro and if so, be sure to leave me a like, be sure to subscribe to see my full review when you get these phones, and as always, thank you very much . Lots to see and see you in the next video, everyone, take care.
