say something, and really... It could ruin your life. Candy, on the other hand, didn't want the public to know that she had been cheating on her husband, and not just cheating on her husband, with her own nephew. Um because, yeah. I mean that wasn't going to go down well. Then Candy says, "Well, I don't want to start the divorce," "because Jacques might say that I've been having sex with my nephew," "it's going to ruin my life." So they're both like, "You say something, I'm going to say something," you know? Aside from general perception reasons, the two of them were worth a lot of money together.

If Jacques decided to file for divorce, he would have to divide all of her wealth with her, according to her prenuptial agreement. Her prenuptial agreement. If Candy decided to apply first, she would ONLY receive $200,000, which in her eyes was not worth it. I mean it's like a single Birkin bag. "How do you dare". I mean, I'm sure a lot of us would say, "Yeah, I'll take the 200,000, that's good." The only way for Candy and Melvin to receive Jacques' $33 million net worth was for Jacques to end up dead. On June 29, 1964, Candy decided to take her four adopted children to see her father at his Florida apartment, and this is where Jacques lived practically full time after their separation, in the Florida vacation home.

But she now lives there full time. So she

takes

the kids there to visit, we guess, I don't know. They only stay a while at Jacques' apartment, just a few hours, and during that time, Candy complained that her head was pounding, she had a migraine. Throughout Candy's life, she was said to have suffered from migraines that were often debilitating. You know, this excuse that she had a headache sounded good, it wasn't something strange. So, after a couple of hours, it was said that Candy was simply tired of being in pain, so she decided to take the four children to her car and they headed to a nearby emergency room, hoping that the medical staff would help. could help alleviate it. her migraine.

Moments after Candy left Jacques' apartment, an intruder burst through the front door. I guess she just walked in. But there had been some sort of fight between the intruder and Jacques. Unfortunately, the intruder brutally stabbed Jacques in the chest and stomach repeatedly, some 39 times in total. My guess is that the intruder, frustrated with Jacques for not dying fast enough, grabbed something heavy and then smashed it over Jacques' head, killing him instantly. When Candy and her kids came back to Jacques' apartment around 4:30 in the morning... And it's like, what are you doing? Well, whatever. (mild laughter) So, at four in the morning, they return to the house and find Jacques, who is wrapped in a blood-soaked blanket and has just died.

Candy called the police immediately after discovering her husband's remains. And

when

local law enforcement arrived at the crime scene, they knew immediately that Jacques' murder was a crime of passion. And they knew it because of the number of stab wounds there were. I mean, she was yelling "HEY, THIS IS PERSONAL." And I guess she should have gone into a little deeper explanation about how they knew that. It's very fascinating, they could tell if he's...an investigator and all that, they can tell if he's someone who knew the victim, just based on how the attack unfolded, which I find fascinating.
I'm losing my voice. What's going on? Although that's not the point. But they knew it was a crime of passion. Investigators then quickly began interviewing or asking questions of neighbors, and some of the neighbors had commented that they had heard, like, panicked screams and several dull thuds in the direction of Jacques' unit. I feel sorry for that little one. A neighbor said he saw a man with dark hair and dark clothing fleeing the premises almost immediately after the commotion stopped. But they couldn't quite see who he was. So Candy, Candy, on the other hand, informed investigators about Jacques, his tendency to bring home strange men, and suggested that, you know, maybe this could have been the act of a jealous

love

r.
So the police, of course, took this into consideration and attempted to locate any man who had personal relations with Jacques, but at some point early in the investigation, law enforcement located Jacques' personal diary. Yes. Inside this diary, they found pages and pages of strange and creepy comments about Candy and Melvin. So, in this diary, the investigators were able to say that Jacques was really afraid of his wife and his mistress, an

incestuous

love

r, I must say, that they might kill him for his money. This is what he is writing in his diary. MMM. So this alone was enough for investigators to start focusing their investigation a little more on Melvin and Candy.
So back at Jacques' house, the crime scene investigators... Wait. Then, at Jacques' house, crime scene investigators found bloody fingerprints on Jacques' countertops. They run these damn fingerprints through, you know, his system and his walah baby. I a

with Melvin. Jacques had one of his cars stolen, one of them, you know? It was the one Candy usually drove. Anyone who finds Jacques' car near a local airport. It was reported stolen, so

when

they find it, they say, "Okay, here it is so le...". (laughs) I'm sure it was more than that. I feel like I'm making this more confusing.
Stolen car, it was Jacques' car. Now it was found near a local airport and was searched, and of course, just like inside, they find a bloody fingerprint. They put it through the system... Melvin. She reconnected with Melvin. Melvin, you're a little careless! As it turned out, Melvin had been seen in Miami, during the same days that Jacques' murder took place. It only took a few days for the police to locate and arrest Melvin for Jacques' murder. When Candy found out about Melvin's arrest, she hired the best defense attorney to represent Melvin, I mean the best of the best.
But the police sincerely believed that Melvin did not act alone. They believed that Melvin was working closely with Candy Mossler to murder Jacques Mossler for his money. Shortly after Melvin's arrest, Candy was also arrested for her alleged association in the murder of her husband. Candy knew she wouldn't do well behind bars. Locked? No. "It's not going to work for me." So, she hired a team of lawyers to make sure she never spent a day in prison. Now, for more than a year after the murders, both Candy and Melvin were free on bail. (licks lips) Don't get me started.
At the couple's trial, Candy and Melvin consistently asserted their innocence. The prosecution team presented a case showing that Melvin and Candy wanted Jacques dead so they could be together and inherit his millions. Jacques's estate was estimated to be worth over 200 million in gross value and 22 million in net value, over 1.6 billion gross and over 177 million in net worth today. So, a lot of money, okay? Like a lot of money, if you had 177 million, you'd be fine for the rest of your life. The prosecution backed up their claim of an

affair

with photographs of Candy and Melvin that they had taken together.
The couple seemed to travel a lot together and documented their trips with photos of them on the ski slopes, at concerts and in clubs. Just "Cheese," like taking pictures together wherever they went, so they brought them into the courtroom and told the jury, "Look, this happy couple. Look at them." "Here's why. They wanted the money." The jury was told that Jacques had recently learned of his wife's

affair

with her nephew and, in response, Jacques was planning a divorce and cutting her out of her will. Now, this sudden change of events is what caused Melvin to fly from Houston to Miami.
He was seen driving Candy's white car at the time of the murder in the area. Then, hours before the time of death, Melvin was in this place called the Stuffed Shirt Lounge, which was a lounge/bar area, but it was right next to Jacques' apartment, and they saw him there, Melvin was there. Before leaving, Melvin had asked the waiter for an empty bottle of Coca-Cola. Prosecutors said he left the bar and headed to Jacques' apartment, with the Coca-Cola bottle in his hand. It is believed, or argued, that this was the weapon Melvin used to hit Jacques in the head.
An empty Coke can... Just like real glass Coke bottles, they're pretty hard... I think so, that sounds good. The killer then used a knife to stab the victim 39 times. Candy's role in the murder was to make sure her husband was home alone. She had claimed that she had a migraine and then insisted on taking the children, all four children, driving for almost three hours, three and a half hours. She did not go to the emergency room as she had said. Instead, she drove for three and a half hours. They called witnesses, who testified that Candy had talked to them about trying to find someone to kill her husband.
The prosecution is painting a picture that all signs point to Melvin and Candy. I mean, there are no ifs, ands, or buts. They have the motive, we have witnesses who said that Candy was asking if someone could kill her husband, I mean, it's clear as day, right? The defense team came back and argued that the blood fingerprints found in the house/car could have been there days before, for all anyone knew. This was before DNA testing, so all they knew was that there was blood and bloody fingerprints and stuff, but not who the blood belonged to.
So they're trying to fight like, "Well, yeah, there's bloody fingerprints and stuff," "but we don't know how it got there. It could have been left there from a couple days before." "I mean he's crazy, guys, it could happen." Candy took the stand and testified that, on many occasions, she and her children returned home to find Jacques involved with a male lover. The defense said any of the random men Jacques picked up could have killed him, and it's not fair to blame Candy or Melvin. For you and me, I feel like this is easy, right? Good. (laughter) (deep inhalation) The jury took more than 16 hours to deliberate and returned the verdict.
A verdict of... not guilty. (laughs) What?! That? That? Yes. Not guilty. They claim they did not find enough evidence to convict the couple of murder. Despite all the evidence that was presented to the jury, the diaries, the love story, the motive, the witnesses. Not guilty. The jury now acknowledged their illicit love affair, but noted that the affair itself did not mean they were responsible for Jacques' murder. All the evidence presented at trial turned out to be too circumstantial for any guilty verdict... (stutters) For any guilty verdict. Here we go. They just felt that it didn't really prove that they had actually done it.
The media was reporting on all this and people were losing their minds, because, oh. money and adventure, Jacques is possibly gay and Candy has an affair with her nephew. When I tell you that people were losing their minds, like they were losing their minds. This story was like crazy. And it got to the point where they had to close the doors on the court hearing itself, they just deemed it too extreme, too sexual for people to handle. They wouldn't let anyone like it, come in and all that. It was wild. Heads were exploding left and right, depending on what I was reading and what I liked to listen to and stuff.
So, after her victory in court, Candy did what she did best: "You know, I'm going to throw a party." So she organized a party to celebrate that they were found innocent. God. Her children brought one of the posters from the murder trial, which had been around town, to the guests, asked them to sign it as a souvenir and frame it. Hurrah. As a result, Candy and Melvin walked free for a murder that many are sure they committed. Just like Candy had hoped and dreamed of. She inherited her husband's estate and her banking business. She changed the name of the company to Candace Mossler Enterprises.
What a shitty person he is, wow. Just a year after winning the lawsuit, Candy and Melvin separated, but she inherited millions upon millions from her late husband and even remarried in 1971 to a man named Barnett. But how strange, guys, we don't know, she just has a wild life. Barnett, he... (light laughter) Is that Barnett? You see, what happened was; Barnett, suffered brain damage the following year, in a mysterious fall from the balcony of the couple's mansion, he suffered severe brain damage and was in a coma, and Candy said, "I'm out. Bye-bye." Okay, so in 1976, Candy's body was found in a Miami hotel room.
She was dressed only in a lace robe and had a full face of

makeup

, as always. She overdosed at age 55. Some sources say she was 62, another source said she was 66 and I honestly didn't check it because I felt she was very appropriate. How old was she? Nobody knows."You never ask a lady how old she is, oh." Melvin and Candy, they talked again and when he found out that Candy had died, he attended Candy's funeral with his hot new lil' boo, and by then, at that time, he had become a flamboyant real estate developer in Houston.
Oh yeah. He went on to have a very successful life and it was said that he was always dressed from head to toe in very expensive clothes. He owned a huge luxury yacht and, by 1979, Melvin had amassed a fortune estimated to be worth $200 million. He also attracted attention in the early 1980s by adding 23 feet to his 142-foot yacht, which was said to be one of the largest in the Western Hemisphere. (applause) Wow Melvin, you're really doing it Melvin. Innovative. Melvin was in and out of bankruptcy, he had declared bankruptcy a couple of times, but then he would like to recover, so something sketchy was going on, I don't know.
And at the age of 68, Melvin was found dead in his Houston home. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences said V's cause of death remains undetermined. That My Friends is the story about Candy and Jacques Mossler, and Candy... Just how can I name? Who... Poor Jacques. Poor, poor Jacques. He seemed like a great guy, and this devilish woman took advantage of him. I'll stop calling her a devilish woman. What happened to the four adopted children, you ask? Well I do not know. I didn't look into it because leave them alone, they've been through enough, I don't want to...
You know? What did we learn here my friends? Well... If you're rich in this country, you can, and probably will, get away with murder. Isn't it fun? Stories like these bother me a lot. (frustrated growl) If you have money, you get your way. It's so fucked up. And you could say, "Well, Bailey, this was from the '60s or whatever, early '70s." Okay, so let me find some new stories, that are very similar to this one, maybe not so, you know... Scandalous. But they're out there, because I read them all the time, I like to torture myself. (frustrated growl) That's how I feel.
Thank you so much. I mean, talk about a crazy story, you know? I really don't understand how not... Yeah, I get it, money. Money. Let me know your opinion below. Anyone who... (snaps fingers) I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day. Thank you so much for hanging out with me today. Let me know who you want me to talk about next week. Please, please, make good decisions. Be save. And I'll see you later. Bye bye. (suspicious music)
