Apr 28, 2024

The design is iconic and works perfectly for its target market, children, but for everyone over 18, I would say the brand is not at the top. shopping list, so what would Captain Crunch be like if it were designed for the modern health-conscious adult instead of sugar-crazed Rugrats? Well, let's find out, but before we get too deep, let's take a quick look at the history of this innovative breakfast. Cabin Crunchy Cereal was first brought to the world in 1963 by Quaker Oats Company. It was the cereal that had

The face of the product was none other than covering and crushing it itself. Known as Horatio Magellan Crunch it was said that the cabin was born off the coast of Ohio on a magical island and a sea of milk the island was home to strange creatures talking trees and the most impressive thing is a mountain made entirely of cereal these days the captain sails the seas and his trusty ship, the ss guppy, spreading his delicious breakfast to all the people of the world and in the spirit of that mission, it is time to build a world where the rest of us can enjoy this crunchy creation, it's time for adult cap and crunch redesign the rules are simple our new design must appeal to the adult market it must include all the main elements of the original design in one form or another and that would include the logo, the mascot of the captain and a picture of the cereal and finally it must meet all the legal requirements for a real mass product that you can find in the store and with those things in mind we embark on our journey and arrive at our first task, choosing a box for do this.

More Interesting Facts About,

You'll have to take a look at the spectrum of series. All the cereals that exist are found somewhere on this line, on the far left we have all the children's cereals, 90 sugar, 10 air, in the middle you have the basic cardboard flavored material and on the far right you will find all

healthy

and nutritious cereals, those that contain real food. The further to the right you go on the spectrum, the smaller the boxes will be, but the higher the prices, it turns out that you pay a premium for real berries instead of balls of food coloring, I think.

Our new Captain Crunch should fall somewhere around here on the spectrum, nothing too pretentious, but it's a good option for those looking for a quick and

healthy

breakfast and who are willing to pay a little more for it, so for Fitting with similar brands, our box will be a little smaller and contains about 70 of the amount the original would have, but the ingredients will be better, so the price goes up along with our newly chosen container. Let's take a look at the graphic style we are going to use. The most serious children have a goal. very similar appearance bright, bold colors a character or mascot and an image that makes the cereal feel exciting obviously all things that appeal to children adult focus the cereal also has a clear set of patterns natural muted color palettes graphics more simple with very little focus on the characters and a lot of attention is paid to the ingredients and health benefits of the cereal, everything that appeals to that adult audience, our design will be based on the natural and resistant feel of modern and healthy products while still having a clear nautical theme for brand recognition and it is at this point we come to our first major destination logo design.

Looking at the original Captain Crunch logo, I like its overall structure and the vintage style of its lettering, but we'll probably want to go for something flatter with a toned-down color scheme, so let's get started. By boiling this down to a basic text structure and replacing captain with captain to make it feel a little more mature after spending too much time searching for sources online, I found something that has these old school vintage arcs and a lot of cool texture and character, but I want to make sure the captain stands out a little more from the crunch and one way to do that is to put it on an old badge.
Badges and flags are used all the time in nautical designs as a way to emphasize certain elements and now to ensure these two. the parties still feel connected. I'll reshape the crisp letters so they form better around the insignia, as you may remember on the original captain's box, the logo and mascot were two separate entities, but I like to bring them together in this new version and this little dip into the insignia seems like the perfect place to place the captain, of course, instead of a cartoon version we will prefer something more realistic and some visual reference like this fine gentleman sailor at the helm of the ship will help us achieve this.
It matches the illustrated style of the rest of the logo. I'm going to create a two-tone silhouette version of the character, so if I simply place an imaginary light to the right of our subject, I can determine which areas that light will hit. By coloring them and adding some extra lines for detail, you end up with an image that uses only one color and lets the background act as a secondary shadow color. However, you'll probably notice that I swapped out his hat for something closer. It looks like the original design and I put an eye patch on it just because it looks cool and with our newly created logo in hand we move on to our next adventure.
We design the layout first. Our box needs some color. Some options are too much fun and some are not. It doesn't work very well with the illustration, but this dark neutral color looks natural and sophisticated to me, especially with a beige logo. As for displaying a picture of the cereal, there are two common options: displaying the cereal in a well-decorated bowl or displaying it. without any container, I personally like this method better because it puts all the focus on the actual product and with that people usually also like to know what that product is made of according to the original box Captain Crunch is a corn and oat cereal that I think it would look good in big, bold letters here at the top and to help complement that, it's also a good idea to provide customers with helpful nutritional information, such as the amount of protein, fiber and sugar in each serving and, just in case, this cereal is also GMO-free and gluten-free, as that's all the rage these days and now, to do some legal cleaning tasks, each box of cereal must have the weight of the product in ounces and grams, and we must tell people explicitly that this is just cereal.
To avoid any confusion, most companies will also include an enlarged series to show details, so that no one thinks that the image shows a one to one representation of the product in the box and once this is done, our journey begins to end at as we get to our Final Destination where we'll add a few extra little things to push our design one step further. First, I'd like to fill this empty space with some sort of nautical imagery to act as an accent, something simple like a rope and an anchor. It works perfectly and making that orange color not only helps it match the cereal, but you can also see how it frames the logo and draws your eyes to it.
Our cereal looks a little flat right now, but that can be fixed with a little lighting to make it visible. as if it were on a surface and to sell that effect even better, let's add something on this cereal. The last thing it needs is a little wear and tear. Our captain is no longer a carefree and carefree guy. the world is now a grizzled old sailor hardened by the merciless sea, so I think a few scrapes and scuffs are warranted to add a little extra character and authenticity to the brand after some finishing touches for presentation purposes.
Here's cap'n crunch for adults. We're a long way from the original kid-focused brand we started with and I think we've even stayed within all the rules, so if you want to join me on more fun design adventures, be sure to subscribe with notifications on and Yes If you found this video helpful or entertaining, show some love and hit the like button there too.
