I'm Bored. Build a Gaming PC with me!!

Jun 02, 2021
You may have noticed but the mounting holes on atx are not really symmetrical so if you turn it this way there is some kind of pattern and if you turn it this way there is a different kind of pattern and some smart case manufacturers have designed their cases so that they both see this, so you have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight mounts with screws, mounting holes, things, uh, but then Asus went and did the same thing on this source feed, so I actually have eight holes lined up, so I'm going to fill them all.
i m bored build a gaming pc with me
We are going to fill all the holes today in this live broadcast, ladies and gentlemen, keep up the good work. It was rated R, you know what I mean, oh yeah, look at that, I bet you've never seen this before, that's class, remember David, I promised at the beginning of this broadcast that we were going to put all the screws in, oh Yes Yes. was my personal guarantee of linux tech tips for everyone watching how everyone is doing poor madison omfgyOMG I wonder every day why this PSU won't come out. We'll have to do a quick shake test after this to see if this power supply can come out.

More Interesting Facts About,

i m bored build a gaming pc with me...

It's all about security. This is how Sarah taught me how to

build

a computer, okay here we go, what do you think is the power supply that comes out? No, it's a snowstorm, come on, give me a second, I just need to know if it's okay, stop. Wow, that power supply, oh, it's there, it's solid, actually. feel more solid like you can't, you can't change it, you know, it's cool, I love it, here are all our cables, go ahead and run the CPU power connectors here and put this one here like this, just like that, so we're .
i m bored build a gaming pc with me
I'm going to go ahead and run our 24 pins. I think it's easier to run them when you put the power supply on instead of waiting and doing them later. These are the fattest girls, so I'm going to put this right there. oh uh oh well we might have a little bit of a problem, it looks like it's one of those motherboards that's a little bit wider than the normal ones so we might have a little bit of oh no it's not. This is this complete standard atx. I love it so here is our 24 pin connector. just put that in there uh no, I don't think I'm going to use the extensions, but I'll tell you what I'll tell you which microcenter microcenter sponsored this broadcast, they actually have it pending.

I need to go get my boomer piece. paper so I can tell you that you didn't send me an extra copy, so I'll tell you all about the Micro Center promotion they have going on right now between May 20th and June 7th. Head over to the Micro Center PC

build

er tool. Load it with anything you want. If you want something then share it, share the link in the comments below and a random winner will be selected to win a 500 micro center gift card. Actually, they didn't strictly specify that it's a micro center gift card, so it could be a gift. card for anything like hooters or whatever, but it's probably my percentage, what do you think David is likely to be a micro center gift card?
I think it's Outback Steakhouse Outbacks House, good sir, can you imagine spending 500 on a steakhouse in one go? That wouldn't be like that. It won't be a good time, I mean, unless of course you have friends you can enjoy food with, visit me. I went straight to a steakhouse alone, but you might not, he might not feel the same way. TRUE? What's happening? That depends on that sometimes yes, that's true, I actually get like that, you know, the gold bet or whatever, I get into that kind of crazy stuff, I just can't, I can't get into that kind of thing. things because, for me, I find that the vast majority of At that point, really expensive food just doesn't taste as good as chipotle and it's like chipotle costs like nine dollars, so if you don't taste as good as chipotle and cost more than eight dollars, then you're like a failure. like you did it wrong and as far as fast food goes chipotle isn't even as devastating to your health as it is you can make it terrible as you can you can load up on that sour cream if you want yeah sour cream but no you have to do it. right, sure, I was going to tell you micro center that I wanted to introduce these indoor power supply extension cables, they're basically a way to make it look like you have individually sleeved cables on your power supply for 30 bucks, but actually , you don't need to get those expensive cables, you can just get extensions, so just put these on the back and then run the extensions through here, but since we ended up randomly grabbing a power supply that has individually sleeved cables.
It would be pretty stupid, you know what we're going to do. I mean, that's the kind of structure it is, ladies and gentlemen, not really, I just can't bring myself to do it. No, no, we are not going to put extensions on it. individually sleeved power supply, okay, so there's our, there's our 24 pin, kind of like those cable combs there, wow, those are really hard to move, what's up? Hi Linus, what's today's build? Ask Tsgl, there is plenty. There's no rhyme or reason, if you tune in a little later, we wanted to build a computer and we took some things that we had and Micro Center sent some things to present and now we're building it, that's right. so today there are big mismatches, some real nonsense going on here, uh, you know what I've been, you know, I was really disappointed in David.
I've been playing bravely by default too and you knew I think this is one. one of those cases where sometimes the best response is to not give the customer what they want because I thought what they wanted was a standard vanilla, you know, along the lines of the old 2d final fantasies jrpg and it turns out the games have I moved on , I think part of this is also due to the game design. It's that they use a work system, so you are familiar with the work system. It's a stupid question. You are a player. So, the work system, if anyone.
Here looking is for some reason, not because of RPGs or any job system, it means that you assign your characters different jobs, like you know, white mage or thief or um, you know, yeah, I was just about to say that if you're really stupid, you could make them a bard. or something like that um well okay well in Bravely Default also the bard is kind of an operation at least at one stage of the game because he pretty much creates spells like protect and shell so these are white magic spells that will protect you of the physical and the magical.
The damage pretty much makes them completely useless because they're multicasts, bard multicasts, it doesn't actually cost that much mana and then the game is full of passive mana regeneration abilities that make it so you can literally go in a dungeon forever, no reason. anything that can come up for air because you can regenerate your mana passively anyway, the point is that it uses a job system and it's one of those games where I feel like a victim of its own success because they designed it for people which I really enjoy playing with those classic rgbs, breaking the game like, oh man, if I take my thief and I give the second one this side job and then I can use this ability, but I also have this crazy perk that basically breaks the game like There was this ability for the thief that does something like 10 to 20 times the damage of a typical fighting attack pretty early in the game and all it costs is mana which, as I mentioned, can be passively regenerated very quickly and easily, um so what happens anyway is that it has this kind of design to be modified and a broken style, but if you don't know that yet, if you're not someone who obsessively tinkers and plays and tries and plays with it like that way and try to break it, it ends up being very, very difficult and then if you're a handyman it ends up being too easy, so I've already found combinations that are completely unworkable.
There was this boss. In the fight I ended up trapped for an hour and a half, in fact, I double checked David, no, it was an hour and a half. I was in this fight because it was against the fact that you have to fight every job before acquiring it and that's how it was. It was kind of a tank job and I went in not knowing there was a boss fight coming up. He came out of nowhere and had no damage dealer. It had all the healing in the world and all the passive mana regeneration that even works in battle so you can regenerate the guy every turn with certain abilities um so it went on forever and then I ran into some where I literally I only have to hit the boss like three or four times with one of my characters they only have one of these stupid combo abilities and it's not even challenging because it's not fun in any way, it's not fun to have completely broken combos in any direction in the that you just can't fight or you fight too hard, um dawn.
Apparently he's playing Fantasian. I don't have Apple Arcade yet, so I haven't played it. Were you able to upload Arcade yet? David, yes, you are in the process of switching to iPhone, although you are not Apple Arcade? You know what I want to hear from you so David is the first person who told me this and I was very surprised to hear it because when Apple Arcade launched I think there was a lot of um I think there was a lot of people look down on mobile

gaming

because of what have been mobile

gaming

throughout its history, because mobile gaming started with games that cost a dollar.
I would say that's when they really started to take off, so you're buying, you know, daddy jump. or whatever, and developers are just making these simple games that use novel input methods like the gyroscope and the accelerometer on your phone, then from there we go, I'd say probably if I could assign a golden age to something. that's only been around for 10 years. I would say the golden age probably came right after that, where you could start buying games for five bucks to 15 that were more designed to be triple-A experiences, not in terms of graphics, obviously because they were running on older phones. seven, eight, nine years, but in terms of trying to tell a story, in terms of trying to develop new styles of play, new styles of play and, really, you know new genres, so then you had that and then we entered the era modern, where there are actually a lot of really innovative games, but the innovation seems to be driven primarily by the mechanics of the casino, just figuring out how to give your brain that hit of dopamine so you can go ahead and buy. more, you know, money or whatever the case may be and just keep clicking on it correctly.
Anyway, I think a lot of people despised Apple Arcade because they thought it was cool, what an experience worth subscribing to could emerge. of that cesspool and that's a fair question but then and and I you know what I'll confess I participated in it at least to some extent um more on the sidelines like I wasn't I never said never but I also never said oh yeah This makes a lot of sense and definitely You know Apple Arcade is going to be the killer app, but what's easy to forget is that Apple has how much money you have in the bank, like 100 billion or something stupid like that. literally enough money to do anything, literally anything, there are entire non-trivial industries on earth that Apple could literally buy everything, every single player goes from a non-relevant entity to literally the entire industry overnight in the morning, not to say that that would necessarily be the best thing for their business because I'm sure they would prefer to continue researching, you know, air tags, air pods and air, you know, whatever else they're working on, but anyway the point.
It's easy to forget that and it's also easy to look at the approaches that other big players have taken and say, "Oh, well, they're doomed to, they're doomed to, you know, make the same mistakes, like example, Amazon hasn't had a It was cool to do around the uh like kind of killer IP development, what was that what was that game that they released and then it tanked and then they like unreleased it? Yeah, that, that, like Team Fortress style, like team shooter, what was it? It's called Cruise Crucible, yes, it was called Crucible Crucible, that's right, so that was an Amazon example, basically like buying a development studio and trying to make an Amazon game, but there are a thousand different ways to get exclusive AAA content on your platform, you know?
Epic Games has shown us that you can give developers a lot of money and then their game can be exclusive to your platform and in many ways that makes a lot more sense because you can take something that has a proven track record and you can basically just buy it. if it actually ends up being good, so it's a fantasy, that's how we got to this topic, it's the first one that caught my attention, like I have to pay for an iPhone to the point where I know it's me. I am making this change semi-permanently in my life.
I don't think I would, but definitelyI'd borrow an iPhone from work and definitely pay for an Apple Arcade subscription to play it, the only reason I've ever done it. What I haven't done so far is my understanding is that what's available so far is the first part and I just can't and it's really funny because I was very interested in the idea of episodic games when Valve started talking about it with uh with Half-Life, right, and I played episode one, I played episode two, another episodic game that I really enjoyed was Telltale's Wolf Among Us, it was just a fun little game, it was one of those, it was the only time I can think of .
Of that, a trade show booth influenced me to buy something. I went and played the demo at the Telltale Games booth at Pax. I don't know 2017 or 16 or something and I thought, oh man, you know what I have? I've never played a game like this before. I'm going to do this. I want to play this game. But both ended up being disappointing experiences for a couple of reasons with Half-Life. Well, I just stopped making them. that was one thing and then with Wolf Among Us the episodes just started, I mean it's like a TV show, the episodes just got noticeably worse and then you could tell they were putting in all their time, I think this is at that point. that they were confirmed or rumored to have licensed a Game of Thrones IP or something.
This is all out of memory so you'll have to forgive me if I got some details wrong but basically there was one big IP that they were clearly devoting all their resources to and you know this fairy tale as if the sandy land of the fairy tales were no longer a priority, so it's always been a disappointing experience for me, so now I'm at the point where I'm a little cynical and jaded and just look at everything. and I'm going to call me when it's done so confession I haven't played the Final Fantasy 7 remake yet because it's only the first part so far you played it well yeah yeah I heard it's awesome but here I'm sitting helpless . to enjoy what is definitely on my mind just amazing content because I have this mental this mental hangs over this revealing rip yeah I know guys are pretty annoying people in the seaplane chat I know I know it's okay, yeah okay okay yeah apparently Like I remember correctly during Wolf Among Us they started with Game of Thrones Batman and the next Walking Dead game yeah that's exactly what happened.
Freddy says that he wishes Valve would make some kind of free portal, yeah, you know what I apparently don't agree with. is that you like portal 1 more than portal 2. I liked portal 1 better than portal 2. much better I thought portal 2 was oh man, it's good left for left for dead three is a game that for so much i loved left 4 dead left 4 dead 3 doesn't need to exist they should just make a dlc pack for left 4 dead 2. In fact they made a new map recently and we played it and I think it's probably the most disappointing thing Valve has ever released ever a game like that.
Valve has done some disappointing things. You think his card game was worse than Left for Dead. I really think that made the map okay, so apparently Valve just let someone else do it anyway. The point is that it wasn't good, basically, as far as I could see, they were areas of the maps that already existed and had been created, but they had invisible walls in front of them before, so it was like a slightly different way of playing what It is fundamentally exactly the same experience. I don't agree that we need a Left 4 Dead 3. Actually, yes, but I'd be equally excited about uh. like an amazing new map and weapon pack for left into.
I would be exactly as excited about that. We have something left for dead fans in the chat. uh, jinta muskie on twitch says i should get into left 4 dead more rager raiden says left 4 dead. 1 is way better than left 4.2 okay okay wait a second wait a second let's look at this left 4 dead this is a big part of the reason why I think portal 1 is better than portal 2 because portal 2 is a richer and deeper experience. Sure, they build a lot more worlds, there's a lot more variety in the puzzles, there are more characters, but portal one is tight, it's perfect, there's absolutely no filler in that game, nothing, while portal 2 has some stairs. quite long and things like that.
There are times when I get

bored

and that's one of my big problems with valve games in general is that they allow you this style of play at your own pace that a lot of people really enjoy, but I think that can be a mistake if you don't have just a level of polish plus and plus because if you allow yourself to go at your own pace and it's not just it's not this intense experience, um, I think it can, I think it can go on a little bit. that's it, that's why I think Valve is so good at creating demos like the lab. uh, if you guys played in the lab, like the virtual reality experiences that you built, it's just that every single one of them is like, wow, this is so good. this could be a complete game, they are very good at creating gaming experiences, but sometimes I think they lose a little bit of fun in the game and that's why I think there is a perception that left 4 dead 1 is better than left 4 dead 2 because left 4 dead 1 has absolutely zero padding, it's tight, it's the pickaxe, everything just has a purpose, every ammo cache, every weapon is perfectly balanced I would say, whereas in left 4 dead 2 what happens is that instead of getting two hunters a smoker and a boomer each time sometimes there's a spitter sometimes there's a charger sometimes there's a jockey so what happens is there's more variety in the game but you lose some of that balance because sometimes you can end up with an infected party if not I'm not familiar with Left 4 Dead, basically the only game mode worth playing is versus which is a team of four infected or four special zombies versus four survivors.
So what can happen is you can get a team of these special zombies that each of them. They have a pin down motion so if they hit perfectly there is absolutely nothing the survivors can do and it's not supposed to happen that way and it shows because the original game was designed around two hunters, a smoker who grabs you hunters jump on you and then a boomer who can't really pinpoint anything but can attract the horde; the other thing also is that as survivors the poor infected can sometimes end up without any tools at their disposal because you might not get one.
The boomers spawn for a long time and the survivors can just run around the map so I think that the problem is that because they have this extra variety, you can end up with really unbalanced encounters and it's not a good opportunity to set up on the key choke. points or too good an opportunity to settle on ketchup points and it kind of ruins the balance, that's what I think ultimately people who say left 4 dead 1 is better than left 4 dead 2 are trying to express why the reality is left 4 dead 2 cannot be worse than left 4 dead 1 because it is exactly the same game, literally, it is exactly the same game, but moreover, it literally has exactly the same maps and exactly the same weapons.
It's just that there are more maps and more weapons, that's all, so I would be very excited to see a map pack and that way you could decide how you want to play it, you could play new maps, you could play old familiar maps, very tight. Something that I think Left 4 Dead 2 also did very well is that the old maps from Left 4 Dead 1 used the same old weapons from Left 4 Dead 1 uh if I remember correctly, not really, do you get some of the new weapons in Left 4 Dead? 2 maps i don't know honestly i played a lot more left for dead 1 than me too all weapons can appear now okay there you go shows you what i know uh oh sorry i haven't really talked about a computer in a while For a while, I've just been talking about games.
In fact, I've finally had more time to play lately and it's been, it's been very enjoyable, I play Pokémon, it says YouTube chat, okay, cool, uh, that's all totally figurative. rod from bs mods is in the seaplane chat being like this yeah choke points are the key yeah figures you would play left 4 dead rod I could see you enjoying that game we gotta play some time man that It would be really fun, um. Jimma asks Hi Linus, is there more verified real player stuff coming soon? So I don't have any confirmation of this so it's just me talking out of my ass but it's word on the street, rumors and you all can go read the same thing.
There are rumors like me, so no, I am not leaking anything other than information that is already available. Word on the street is that nvidia is working on releasing new versions of the RTX 30 series, either as new cards or as replacements for existing cards. which they have the same crypto mining block that already exists on the 3060. um, I can't talk to him, I mean, I can't, I can't confirm what I don't know for sure, but I don't have any cards right now. for the verified real player program and what I suspect is that no one is getting any cards right now because nvidia is working on releasing new cards with crypto mining blocking implemented, it's really frustrating because I mean, oh yeah, I was going to talk about this before.
I said in one of our recent videos, I think when I was talking about the silicon shortage right now, I said you know, blah, blah, blah, it's going to get better during the next cryptocurrency crash and this was right around the time that Tesla announced that we were going to start accepting bitcoins for cars and a lot of people came up to me saying oh Linus, uh, there's not going to be an accident this time, just look, it's not going to end the cycle, it's just going up on its own now and I kind of said no, I don't really see that happening, I think there's going to be another drop and I think what we're going to see is all these cards that were accumulated by the miners are going to disappear. to appear on the second-hand market and it's actually going to be a big help to the players, we just have to be patient, we just have to wait, because there will be offers, ladies and gentlemen, and a lot of people don't agree with that. that feeling, um, and saying that no nvidia definitely has the best interest of gamers in their hearts, uh, when they release these crippled crypto cards, but the problem is that now the crash is coming to fruition, I think bitcoins fell like 35 40 in the last week or so ethereum was very down basically everything is very down and now we have reactively built this system to prevent small time people from mining cryptocurrencies with their graphics cards that they spend a lot of money to solve. a problem that is just a cyclical problem and I don't think it will continue to be a problem between ethereum going proof of stake and values going down a lot, a lot of those people are going to lose interest just like they did last time, so I don't know, I mean, it's in videos. nvidia can do whatever they want right, it's like it's their thing, I'm just never, I'm never in favor of artificially limiting the functionality and performance of a product and to me that's just somehow it doesn't matter. what its functionality is because very similar arguments could be made about things like cracking passwords, as if nvidia has tried to introduce hardware mitigation into its graphics cards so that the consumer versions are not.
I don't know, I mean, you could argue from a security, privacy and consumer protection point of view, but do you know where we get the line like why do we as consumers, why do we accept that the products that we What we buy have software or artificial blocks that do not allow us to use them the way we want? I just don't support them. it's um uh yeah, mcroe or more, I don't know how to pronounce that, um, you know, yeah, when you buy something, you should be able to use it however you want and obviously there are exceptions to that, I mean we have a camera. here that we actually had to sign a document like a legal document that says we will not sell it or lend it to anyone without them going back to the manufacturer and completing the same authorization process, like anti-terrorism prevention, which we did because it's something that could have military applications if it came into the hands of, you know the wrong people, who are the right people and who are the wrong people is a bit of a complicated question these days, but the point is that I can see how there are products that you really have to use. regulate who can get their hands on it um I just don't think graphics cards and cryptocurrency mining is one of them yeah yeah escape dog that's normal try to tell you I'll have a million licenses to use it fully uh , saved.
He says yeah, the thermal camera, yeah, the thermal camera, 'cause that thing is hitting like it's some amazing super high resolution thermal camera, I love it, I love that thing, it's cool, what else did they rock us guys, oh, I should probably check out a couple of supers? the chats maybetalk about what the fuck we're actually doing, so our triple aio radiator is installed on top of the case. I've gone with my classic setup here, which is that I have a strong preference for exhaust configurations, so these fans are going to pull the air out of these front fans through the radiator fins and out the top of the casing and the reason I like this is because cleaning this is so simple we will have filtered air coming in from the front.
They'll be 140 millimeter fans, so overall we'll have positive air pressure with three 140s that will probably change this to also be an intake and then we'll have three 120s blowing up. Actually, maybe, maybe. get the butt off and don't bother with it at all, I don't even think we need it, so we'll still have filtered air going through the front positive pressure and then any cat hair or dust or anything that builds up. Here it will probably get stuck in these fins, so all you have to do from time to time, like once every three six months, is just grab it, throw it in the trash can and that's it, it's very low maintenance, whereas when You have When you have the fans blowing into the radiator, getting in here to clean it is actually very difficult, so I prefer to do it this way, let's go ahead and put the filter back on top of the case.
I guess this is not the case. It's really a filter, it's more of a magnetic grid. I don't think Corsair expects anyone to use the top here as an input. It's a bit of an unconventional setup. Let's go ahead and put this here. uh, is it symmetrical? Look those guys, privateer man, they are as smart as everything they do, even when they need to save costs, they do it in a way that they can turn it into a feature as if it were simpler from an assembly. man from an assembly standpoint it has symmetrical parts because the factory worker doesn't have to think about it, they just grab this and put it there, it doesn't really matter which direction you look, now the privateer might have preference because they were going to put this little rubber hook here, but if someone screwed it up.
This doesn't really matter, so you have a little privateer there or a little privateer there, who cares, it's totally irrelevant and they go and make it well, now it's a user feature. Hey, you have easy access to your little leak. magnetic type on the top and you don't even have to think about it you just put the thing back ah I love it they're geniuses they're geniuses gen genius eye genius uh the point is uh come on ah I hate this how come YouTube is made by a multi-billion dollar company? Sometimes I swear, I just can't figure it out, look at this, David, okay, I just changed the tabs here, so I had the analytics menu open where I see people.
When watching the stream, I zoom into the viewer's activity so I can see the super chats. Clearly there have been super chats because I can see this one right here and they're just not here. All of the super chats that have been sent to me during this entire stream are just disappearing even though I've had this window open the entire time. Sorry guys, there's nothing I can do about it. What makes them up? Yes, the tuner builder says crypto-locked graphics cards are a good idea in theory, but that's about it. Yeah, pretty much it, sounds good, no need to wait a second, no, I made a whole video about this, guys, remember it's not a good idea in theory, but that's it, it's a great idea, but everything It depends on what they are. trying to achieve it, if what you're trying to do is undermine the pun intended for the second-hand graphics card market, then that's a great idea.
I did the whole thing about how, basically, if you follow the money, you know, follow the money, that's what it is. It's all about that it has nothing to do with making things better for consumers or anything like that or protecting people from evil resellers. I mean, I think we showed with the verified real player program that if your intention was to put cards in the hands of the players. um it's actually if a company our size can figure it out I think nvidia can figure it out I think almost anyone can figure it out the reason the supply is limited the reason they're not the reason the supply is limited the supply is limited because there is a real shortage, but the reason they don't go to the players is because it doesn't really matter because as long as you get paid for it, you know who cares and a lot of the messages about how to get cards in hands from real players. gamers, um like, for example, you know, match with a motherboard to make sure that, well, this is to make sure that a gamer actually gets it because a miner wouldn't need a motherboard, yeah, but it also ensures that it's obtaining more margin. when you sell a motherboard in the same purchase order, you don't like it and it's marketing, I get it, I get it and there's nothing wrong with marketing, it's turning a negative into a positive, right, I just expressed my admiration for Corsair. for being so good at it, I'd personally prefer a more direct approach, that's all, so crypto blocking is about making sure that crypto miners buy crypto cards and gamers buy gaming cards and you don't know anyone the card it can be used for the purpose of the other, ensuring that there is no card swapping between these two markets that nvidia is targeting, that's what it's all about, simple as that;
Otherwise, there's no reason crypto cards can't have a DVI output, you know, on them. or whatever and there's no reason gaming cards can't mine cryptocurrency, they just turned it off, I mean I just wish AMD was a more viable competitor in that space, to be clear I'm not saying performance like the 6700 series. 6800 6900 to a lesser extent, not that I mean, yeah, I'm saying it's not as competitive in price, but if it were in msrp it would be very competitive in price today, um, but it has more than do with that, they just can't. make enough of them um and I can't even, what I suspect, although I don't have confirmation of this, is that I probably didn't expect a lot of people to want the cards because from what I understand they haven't sold much. a lot of graphics cards in recent times, at least not in the high end, because they simply have not had anything that competes, not even the products that they have released, I don't even remember what that stupid thing was called, uh, how.
Did we get after the Vega Frontier edition, the uh seven, oh shit yeah, the radio was the Radeon Seven, the one that basically launched and then disappeared, I think so, you basically couldn't buy that thing and every time they talked about it ? People would say, actually, here's a list, I look at it and say, yeah, a list from a manufacturer and you can always play, hey, how many games do you really have? So you choose a new egg and you add one to your cart and it works, then you add two to your cart, see if it works, you can't add more than three to your cart because it would just say no, there's not enough stock, it'll just tell you how many they have in stock that is not a real product that is not a product that is really available, like when you compare it to the nvidia cards at that price where they have literally only from evga 10 variants of the damn gpu that you got your super watch you have your super super clock you have your super super clock plus you have your kingpin kingpin super right that is a product that is a real product that is actually available okay, let's go ahead and put the CPU cooler here we have pre-thermal compound applied The compound Corsair thermal is fine, so we'll use that and put this here.
Okay, sorry David, should I focus more on building the computer? How tired is your arm? I'm pretty tired, you're pretty tired, okay? you want to put it on a tripod for a moment just take a break, okay, I'm going to screw in these thumb screws because this is going to take a little time, I still have to put all those fans in the front, connect the rgb. You believe in me, yeah, but it's you, it's you we're worried about, I've never lost faith, I'm not that tired, oh man, one in the morning, you stay up late, oh, it's okay, you doubt yourself same at one in the morning.
Good morning, okay kid, it's so funny, I tell everyone, hey, you know, I can't read all the super chats. Sorry, people start sending a lot of super chats. Guys, I also spent the entire first hour of the stream without even trying. check them out please don't send don't send super chats just buy from lttstore.com if you want if you want to support alignus media group and the whole team here and everything that makes a big difference and the creator merch is gone . from something of a side project, a few people also have t-shirts here and there and as far as I can tell, the main driver of huge machines like Mr Beast's Empire seems to be built largely on merch releases that simply move the volume.
Basically I could only imagine, ah okay how are you guys doing, look at me, it says moobag mubang, logic games, it says what is a good midrange gpu, man what am I supposed to say? Like anything in the nvidia 1660 series, I mean, even honestly yes. Yo, 500 dollars, I say for your 580, that's about what you just went for, it was Canadian, although yeah, that's Canadian, so about 400 US dollars is what a 580 is worth these days because I would say something like that like an RX 580 like something based on Polaris. If you're just looking to play, you know, you're just looking to play some games, you don't want to spend a ton of money, great value, unfortunately, they're very expensive, I honestly think it has the potential to really do it. it hurts the DIY PC building community, like honestly, you see, you know the comments below, you know, PC building focused channels like ours or J's Two Cents, you'll see people who just get angry every time they see a GPU because they can not. get one and no one they know can get one and you have these tech tubers that are getting all the gpus and I get it yeah I'd be pretty mad too that's bullshit that's stupid like why people who don't even pay for it They get these GPUs and they sit around building computers all day when I just want to build a damn computer and I can't, I can't get one for a reasonable price, you know, let alone for a high price. -End of a super cool and fancy one like that, so a couple of things you need to realize is that we don't actually have that many, we rebuild using the same hardware over and over again because that's our content, it's building computers and believe it . or not, it is not that easy for us to get them either.
I have been waiting. We've been trying to upgrade our editing workstations to 3090 because Blackmagic 12k raw footage has some sort of bug on the PC that causes your video memory usage to be extremely high when you're editing with it in Premiere, so I've been trying to get enough 3090s to upgrade our editing platforms for probably the better part of two months, as I understand it, the struggle is. It's absolutely real and I can see why people are angry, but you have to understand that the world doesn't stop turning either and we can't just stop making videos because it's hard to buy a graphics card and just because it's hard to buy one.
That doesn't mean there aren't still people trying to build PCs, so we have to ride this out and hope people don't lose patience with building custom PCs because it's gotten to the point where it feels out of reach, it's feels unsustainable. Now before I started today, I was told that someone had validated that this case actually fits three 140s in the front at the same time, but I mean that wouldn't be the case. Wouldn't that be the only thing on this broadcast that wasn't properly reviewed before arriving on set, um, hello, uh, that's, uh, that's not, that's not going to go in there, I guess we could just go, we could go with the fans. , I mean.
Is that going to sound stupid? Should we go? Should we triple 120 and just get some more 120s here? Yeah, it's probably worth it, hey, chase, light loops, please, if you don't mind, let's get some light lubes, that's another thing I think. What has made building your own PC seem really very expensive is the heavy emphasis on aesthetic products with a ton of RGB and honestly, we are guilty of promoting them too as if these are some new Corsair fans. I don't even know what they're called, they look absolutely amazing, like they have rings of light on both sides as well as translucent blades, so these things will light up like fucking Christmas, but I'm willing to bet these fanatics cats are like 25 30 each and it's not the kind of thing that as an enthusiast I would have spent my money on, but I mean, it's there and it looks really coolcool and it's fun to make builds like this so it's hard.
No uh it's hard not to if you get the chance since I love building computers even though I personally wouldn't spend this kind of money on a fan okay here we go we have some 120ml light loops that. we will fight, we will do well, oh shoot, telesto, life says: can I buy the PC when it's ready? If so, honestly, some of the parts here are probably engineering samples and stuff, I don't even think we'd do it. allowed, I don't even think they would let us sell it, that was a big difference from the build we did for terabrite games as it was actually retail hardware so it wasn't a problem for us to sell it, we also had some people were quite indignant because that was the best computer we could build for 10 thousand dollars, but I have the feeling that mathematics is not their strong point and they said, yeah, these other, you know, this other YouTuber would have done something much better with Somehow way you know this and that and I'm sitting here telling you that you understand that ten thousand dollars doesn't necessarily mean we made money well, the cost of the parts was ten thousand dollars, we didn't do it, we didn't charge We paid them a fee to build it, just that was just ten thousand dollars for its CPU, four thousand dollars, just because something is expensive doesn't mean that doesn't mean that the person who sold it made money off of it. if it wasn't, we didn't want to make a ton of money, we're not actually in the business of building computers, even the pyramid computer we made for dbrand, that wasn't like a commission paid, they certainly paid for the hardware, um at least most of it.
I don't know where those 390s came from, but they paid for all the hardware we put on it, but they didn't actually pay us a build fee or anything like that, in fact, I don't even know if we got paid. them for the raw materials, which ended up costing hundreds of dollars for such a large case. I don't know if you've looked at the cost of aluminum lately, but it's not exactly cheap, okay, let's finish our stack of light loops here. It's going to look pretty good when we finish what else we have here Rice says I'm glad I tuned into this broadcast.
I just bought an rg triple rad aio and I'm worried about how to install it thanks for the tech tips linus hey Hey no problem and if you're looking for that specific cooler we'll probably cover it at some point during the rog rig 2020 reboot I think remember that at least one of the participants ended up with an asus aio like them. re reugen or however you pronounce that, okay, what?else we have what else they shook us here uh, the whole situation makes me oh oh oh I'm glad I didn't get rid of my old quadro 2000. yeah, anything will do for a build of simple and usable PC, michael says radeon 7 was a decent computer The product overclocked very well, but the cooler was horrible.
I had Tech Morfeo rage on mine for a while and it blew up. Yeah, I didn't say it was terrible. What I said was that it wasn't real as far as anyone could tell. like you had some GPUs lying around or something and you wanted to get rid of them because they were the same ones you use in your computing product, but just on a consumer graphics card you didn't get great driver support from what I understand over the lifetime of the product and pretty much disappeared as quietly as it came, it's such a strange thing for a company the size of amd, but at least they seem to be moving away from that kind of desperation these days now that In fact, I've seen that they announced a share buyback for first time since, I mean, 2001 or something, and they actually have the cash and are confident enough in their own future performance to buy back their own shares.
Dr. Sue, good on you, okay, let's run these ventilator cables over here. uh Cbar says could we maybe get a video that talks about whether the cards deteriorate when you're thinking about a comparison or something before more of those cards appear on the market again hey that's a really good question and It's actually something we addressed before, but I don't know if we could address it to the same extent as we did last time, not because it's impossible but because it's kind of impractical, so last time we talked about this I had two gtx geforce 4x and a gtx 480.
I don't remember when they moved the gtx in front of the model number. Anyway, I had a pair of Fermi 480s and we met or 580 580 excuse. Me and we managed to find one that was new in the box, like 10 years after the fact or something, it was 10 years later. I don't remember it was a very old graphics card, but we found a new input tray. one and then we had our old used one from when the card was released, like when the whole series was released, and compared the performance of them, one that had been in a box for the better part of a decade and another that had been widely sold.
It was used in both a machine and an everyday game card for a long time and then it was also used in benchmarks and overclocked and all that kind of stuff, and what we found was that there was absolutely no difference, but there was a key difference. between those older graphics cards and the newer ones, because any processor that is microscopically identical and running at the same frequency will work identically, there would have to be something wrong with it for it to not run the same if it's running. at the same frequency or the same megahertz or gigahertz, but here's the thing that older graphics cards, the way they were designed, had a set frequency that they would run all the time unless they were at a low level of energy. power state so whether they were playing at 1080p or 4k they were simply running at their clock speed so it stands to reason that if it's working it's working and if for some reason the silicon degraded it would manifest as artifacts or the card. doesn't work at all well nowadays they make everyone basically so both AMD and nvidia are tweaking their cards and what that means is they are taking every piece of silicon and working on intelligence that will work well hey how much power do I have?
I'm drawing out, hey, what my thermals are right now, what clock speed I can run at and dynamically adjusting the actual performance of the card depending on the health of the silicon from a thermal and power consumption standpoint, so is one of the things that can What happens to a chip over time as it degrades is that it can actually run hotter, so if an older GPU got hotter, it would just get hotter and keep running. at that frequency until it no longer works basically if a newer GPU If it started running hotter or consuming more power, which would cause it to run hotter, what it would do is it would actually lower performance, it would be smart enough to to run at a lower clock speed and decrease your performance because remember as long as the clock speed is the same, the performance is the same, the problem is that it would be exceptionally difficult for us to track it for several reasons, number one, we would have to know well ok no for one main reason and that is because we couldn't test multiple cards like we did last time so basically we would have to take one card and do everything before testing then we would have to draw it for a couple of years and then we would have to glue it back together because that is not the case.
What we are testing we want to know if the silicon degraded correctly, so we would have to re-glue it, clean the cooler and test it again. It would have to be exactly the same card because there is always variation from one card to another. another, but in the past they only had this bar, okay, it has to reach this frequency with this power consumption and if it is this or above, then it's good, so that was it, there was only one bar, but nowadays there's kind of a fuzzy bar there's a range as long as you meet this base clock it's a pass and by the way it could raise here or a nice boost here or here here here here here here so you can't just take two cards different and having in one of them was mined and in the other not because they could already be very different and you have no way of knowing.
It has to be the exact same card running the exact same games under the exact same conditions and it's just one of those things that someone could do but it's not very practical that's all and we've done some long term testing before we creating excessive dust accumulation, in his case with different fan settings, was not the best. something scientific ever done in the history of the universe, but I thought it was cool, we definitely learned some things, um, so it's not like we're allergic to doing that kind of thing, but you definitely know something we have to choose between. our battles very carefully because having something up and running in the office for a couple of years is no small commitment, no small commitment, I mean one of the other things we've wanted to do for a long time. time and this one we will do, this one we will almost definitely do at some point is a long term coolant test.
I've been wanting to do this for quite some time because I have a theory that anything other than water for water cooling is a terrible idea and manufacturers always come out saying no, no, no, this time, our premixed coolant, our dye, our additive or whatever it is, it's going to outperform the water both from a performance standpoint and from a longevity standpoint, it's not going to. degrade, it won't decompose and every time they say I call bs, but I don't really have any proof, so what I want to do and I tried to convince my wife to integrate it into the office decor. so I don't have to just stick it on the floor somewhere, but what I want to do is basically build like 10 water cooling circuits and with just a heating element on them or something like that instead of actual computers because that would be kind of a waste of real computers for a couple of years and then I want to build all these loops like maybe in some kind of big wall decoration with some kind of rigid pipe or something, all these different colors, all these different coolants and then just let them work. for two years and then just come back and review them periodically.
One of the challenges is that to really do it properly, you would have to fill them in sterile conditions, you know what I mean, because if one of them had some kind of algae or something or some kind of bacterial growth or whatever, it wouldn't I know, like something was introduced into the circuit during filling and the others weren't, that's totally unfair and when you do that kind of testing, basically calling manufacturers b.s., you have to be very careful not to make a mistake because that It opens you up to all kinds of legal liability, so it's something I really want to do, but it's something we just haven't done.
I really had a chance to address it, but sorry, I keep getting distracted. I keep talking about not building a computer, but I swear I'm really focused on building this computer, so I have my fan control. from my pump here, uh, I go to my CPU option header and then I have the rpm sense, oh no, sorry, from my hub in the back, so the hub fan control cable in the back goes to the optional CPU and then I have my rpm sensor goes from the CPU cooler to the CPU fan header, that way the system won't be like, hey, press F1, press F1, the fan your CPU failed and you can also tell me through um what's the name of your stupid software that I hate them.
Remember no no asus oh wait no oh right corsair it's iq right no I'm talking about asus because I want the motherboard to give me that warning so actually iq could probably tell me if The bomb failed too, damn it? What is the name of your horrible Windows software? It's not as bad as it used to be ai sweet yes ai sweet then ai sweet can yell at me if my pump fails so everything is connected I think it's mostly correct and now we can do some more of this wiring in the back maybe review a couple more uh super chats um pars quizzle the man in the shed says that having a great game or series turn bad over time isn't as sad as having a master spec get cut mid-stream. uh kentaro look you created the best piece of fiction, we can't see it end.
In fact, I wish I had some idea what you were talking about. I'm sure I'm displaying some kind of horrible, horrible ignorance right now and there's a whole community out there. from people who are very interested in whatever you're talking about and who are going to be outraged, I've never heard of that, but I mean, hey, you know the loss of human life is never good, so oh man, if you want to do that loop. testing maybe work with your local university on a testing protocol honestly, it's not figuring out the testing protocol that's difficult, eternity, okay, then rookie mistake. a rookie mistake is installing Windows on a PC that has two drives, you want to know why, because Microsoft in their infinite stupidity, was actually going to say infinite wisdom with sarcasm, but I want to make this very clear, it is a surprisingly stupid behavior that the windows installer, if you have two drives and it happens to you, I don't know, I don't know what the logic is, but sometimes if you select one of the drives and install Windows, the bootloader will actually be placed on the other drive.
So what happens is you have this two drive system and you can't boot into Windows with just one of the drives installed and there's no compelling reason to do it that way. It's not like it's like that. Well, you would. I don't want to damage the bootloader in the same place where all your data is, there is no data protection or maintainability, reason to do it because rebuilding that bootloader by moving it back to the other drive is not trivial, it can be done, but it's a real pain in the ass and you can only do it once you've realized the problem and put both drives back into the system so we have a full Windows installation here.
Can you pass me the other unit? no, that's not useful, never mind, never mind, the point is that there is another drive in jesse's testbed that has the bootloader installed, so this was a fitting way to end this broadcast given everything that It went poorly, but overall I think I ended up with a pretty nice looking PC and almost an idea of what these fans would look like if we just had the software installed to be able to view it for sure. I should go through a couple more super chats just to say, “Hey.” guys you know thanks for that safe moon hashtag safe moon I have no idea what that means uh jayco says I'll finally support you after 100 videos even without a sub okay okay jesse van springem sent 50 euros, thank you very much, uh harvey. harris says you should hire a data scientist, we've really thought about it, you know, create more tools to analyze youtube, see what works, see what doesn't work.
In fact, I spent quite a bit of time talking to someone who has created a lot of those types of analysis tools and the reality is that I've been doing this for so long that every time it went well, this is my gut feeling about what's happening in right now, he would say yes, check, so it's something we should do, but it's kind of like what I discussed about why we don't bother doing that long-term coolant test, but I already have a good answer, so That instead of taking something we're already good at and making it great.
I'd rather take things we're terrible at and make them absolutely good. It's kind of like what I want to allocate my time to, so it hasn't come up yet, but it's something that I and I should do. I would love to do it and if we were in something like the comedy space or, you know, more of a more modern space like makeup, for example, I definitely would have probably been one of the first 10 hires instead of having 50 people. . and not having a data scientist yet because in that space you just have to be following the trends and you have to be aware of it, but for us, I mean, we are in technology, the trend is the technology and how it is maintained. developing and it keeps getting better and keeps surprising us so we don't really need someone to tell us that right we don't need another youtuber to tell us that technology is great and it keeps improving and changing and it's amazing so it's just in our space I feel like it's a little less necessary, there are definitely things where we've used modern tools to get on the trends, for example we had one that showed us that was actually put together very quickly for us by a friend of Jake's when the API was a bit easier to use and basically showed us the best performing videos of the day and suddenly we saw that the hydro dipping stuff was huge so we dipped a graphics card and it ended up working pretty well. us, but other than that, we try to make our own way.
Do you think the recent cryptocurrency crash will put the RTX 30 series back in the hands of gamers? Soon hasn't crashed enough, not even close, yet. put more skinnies in your mom that's right that's a good point gray wolf I wanted to say thank you for helping me to be able to teach some of my friends about technology through your guides I hope you and yours are well, yes, we are very well We're doing great, we don't have Covid yet, we've got that shot in our arm, I just need Canada to get more vaccines so I can get my second shot and then we can go back to not having to treat each other like we're all carriers of Plague.
I don't really worry about that guys, so thank you so much for tuning in. thanks to microcenter for sponsoring the video, they have a call to action, maybe different than this one, yes, links, oh really, oh, the links for all these parts are in the description of the video so you can visit the store uh microcenter and where you can buy everything. These things down there don't forget either, between May 20 and June 7 you can go to the Microcenter PC creation tool, load it with whatever you want, throw it away, you must share it and leave it as a comment in the video description here and One random winner will be selected for a 500 gift card to Micro Center, not Hooters.
I mean, maybe for Hooters, if you've told them you'd really prefer Hooters, maybe they'll help you with that, although not if you're a miner.
