I Found The DIRTIEST Ford Mustang Sitting in a Barn....Can it be Cleaned??

May 09, 2024
Inside the studio right now is one of the coolest cars I've ever had the pleasure of working on: it's a 1967 Ford Mustang in apple red and it's been

sitting

in a

barn

for the last 20 years while I don't have any footage. of it in the

barn

when the new owner picked it up about a month ago here are some shots of it in storage until a few days ago when the owner loaded it up and brought it to my studio, luckily all the tires hold air and so do the brakes they work so after a few minutes of untying it and putting the wraps in place we were able to just push it off the trailer and then a little back and forth and we had it over the drain pit and ready to work on it so now We have the car inside the studio, what can you tell me about it?

Well it's an original skatan car, it was sold in Swift Current, that owner loved it for many years. many years until about two in the year 2000, the next owner bought it, did a lot of work on it and loved it as much as he could and then, you know, life got in the way and he got to work and just forgot about it . and I put it back and now it's in this condition where it looks like mice have settled there for many years and it's, you know, the fine dust of life, I guess it will settle on it, hopefully, in the spring.

I was going to start removing the engine and putting everything back in the best shape it should be. The 289 was removed, it has a 351 in there so I'm very excited to get in, it's a very rare engine to find. That alone is pretty cool in itself, so the whole car that goes with it is pretty exciting to me. Yes, I definitely have a lot of work ahead of me, but yes, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it. it's going to be amazing, can't wait, well after a few more minutes chatting with Nolan about the car and taking a quick look at the 351 under the hood, I was on my way and got a closer look at the work in front of me and there's no doubt That this car needs a miracle, the interior has been completely destroyed by mice over the last 20 years and I honestly don't know what I'm going to find when I start digging deeper, but I do know that it's not going to be good, Guys, well you've seen the car and how much work I have ahead of me to clean it up, so it's time to get to work and start the restoration of this beautiful classic, well, first step here.

It will be making sure the windows are closed and tight, as there is a chance they could leak a little when I hit them with water, but before I do that, since the car has been

for over two decades, I'll start with a few. -purpose cleaner as a pre- So to soften the dirt a little so it comes off easier and while I'm at it I just have to say I'm still amazed to have the opportunity to work on a car like this today even though It's an absolute disaster at the moment, it deserves to be restored to its former glory and I can't wait to see it

up.

One thing to note is that the paint on the Mustang is not original, as it was repainted by the previous model. owner and unfortunately it didn't adhere very well as there are a lot of spots around the car where the paint is peeling so I'll be sure to be as careful as possible to not make things worse, however this piece here was attached will eventually come off , so although it's unfortunate, I know Nolan is already planning to repaint the entire car, which would really put him over the top when I'm done with it, oh okay, with the pre-wash rinse done here, I thought I'd would do.
Take these extra wheels off the car and spray them on while everything is still wet here. I'm not really sure what his plans are with these, but at least they'll be clean now in terms of classic cars, the candy-colored '67 Ford Mustang. The Apple Red is probably near the top of the list for many people as it is just a great looking car and with the 351 Cleveland Motor it has, it will be a fantastic car to cruise around and maybe do some burn out here and there, but I was surprised to learn that in 1967 over 470,000 of these Mustangs were sold, I'm not sure how many are left on the road, but they were certainly a popular car in their time.
However, I'm curious if you would love to have this car? Go ahead and comment below or if there's a different classic you'd rather have like a challenger, a Chevel or even a GTO go ahead and comment on that too, okay it's time to get started in the engine bay here so first I'll go back to the shop to soak up as much loose dirt and debris as I can and then we'll get to work cleaning this Cleveland 351 engine which is a V8 and certainly sounds amazing, after a quick research it looked like this engine. It can generate around 330 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, which would give it enough power to lay down some rubber, of course, before attempting to start this the owner will take the necessary precautions and not it will just try to turn it around later. it's been sitting idle for 20 years, once i'm done vacuuming i'll quickly plug the carburetor as i certainly don't want any water getting in and then follow the usual process of agitating the degreaser and then a quick rinse with the g rope, should it be good with a satisfactory closing of the hood?
Now I'm turning my attention inside, where what I can see at this point is basically piles and piles of M droppings, but I'm afraid. It's even worse in the trunk. Nolan said when he dropped it off that the locking mechanism was stuck, so the key didn't work and even suggested he drill a hole in it to gain access, but he really didn't want to have to do that. So far, after a quick attempt to see for myself that it was stuck, I've resigned myself to having to check inside to open it, but before I can do that I have to remove the extra pieces and the driver's seat, which was the first one.
Every time I see seats bolted under the vehicle, it was a challenge to undo them, but once it's out, I'll remove the back seat before moving on and finding out how bad the trunk is. I want to clean things up before I get into it, including the first of many dead Bice. Now as I move over to the rear passenger side, you might be wondering why I'm not using my central vacuum today and well, that's simply because I really don't want to risk clogging the lines with all these mouse nests that , if you hadn't guessed, they consist mainly of all the foam that was in the back seat, but the other reason is so that we can find all the dead mice in this car of which I hope there are quite a few oh, looking at this section of the carpet and I already know I'm going to have to pull the carpet as much as possible and the general dirt sitting here is going to make it very difficult for the puller alone to do the job and not to mention this car is by far the worst smelling vehicle I've ever worked on, so I know I'll have to be as aggressive as possible to catch the smell today.
It's okay with the interior a little cleaner. I finally removed the top of the back seat, but I'm still having a hard time unscrewing the latch mechanism, but after hooking all the extenders I could find onto my ratchet, I opened the trunk. and it was a shock to say the least. It seems that this is where the mice spent most of their time, as in addition to using the seat foam for their nests, they also chewed through these boxes and also used the Styrofoam packaging. Yes, really wild, but what's even more fun. It's the second time I went into the trunk.
I saw a live mouse running around, so I'm not working here alone today. It's hard to believe, but this is the second time I filled the store with mustards and nests. It's still in the trunk. and it wasn't long before he

found

another dead mouse. I think it's four today and I've confirmed that there are two mice living in this car right now, one is light gray and the other is. It is light brown. I've seen them run across the carpet several times, so I hope to have the camera in my hands the next time they do it.
Here's a quick look at what the carpet looks like after and while vacuuming. of a lot of cleaner I'm going to go ahead and begin the process of removing the carpet, which first involves removing the door seal trim pieces, the shifter trim piece, and of course the seat belts . Well, it's time to see how good my carpet cleaner really is. It's just this rug is horrible so I'm going to spray it a little bit with my pump sprayer and then make sure to shake it really well and as I mentioned earlier the pressure washer really needed it today as the rugs are absolutely disgusting and even Yes I can clean them.
I will still recommend Nolan replace them with new ones and as always, if you have dirty carpets or seats in your vehicle, head over to Detail Geek Autoc Care.com where you can find my carpet cleaner along with almost all other products and tools that I use in my videos, like my all-purpose cleaner, which I'll be using on the interior in a moment, and if they can clean a car this disgusting well, they will. I'll make quick work of any mess you can throw at them. Quick update on most situations. I

found

that the brown one noticed him out of the corner of his eye running inside the driver's door, so I'll be sure to prepare some. traps inside the car and around the studio not tonight, here's a quick look at the front seat belts and although they are clearly dirty I wasn't quite prepared for the mud that came out of them.
Cleaning seat belts is not something I normally do, but I had to do it with these as my all-purpose cleaner and steamer can clean them quickly, but man, that sludge is gross. I compare it to what you would expect to get if you blew the lungs of a Lifelong Smoker absolutely horrible, well although these seats may be vinyl I am still using my leather cleaner as it will work just as well here and of course , I need to use the steamer on it because the dirt and mouse droppings are deeply embedded, but I have to say I'm impressed with how well this combination works because the seats ended up looking new and on the subject of the seats, you probably noticed that the passenger seat was not in the car when it appeared fine.
Don't worry, Nolan brought it in his truck, so even though it's currently in two pieces, I'll still clean it up. Now, despite hearing that the owner plans to repaint this car, I'm still going to go ahead and polish the car. I paint today, but before I can do that I need to use a clay bar to make sure it's free of embedded contaminants, which of course was fine. I'll start in the trunk first with some of my finishing polish and a microfiber cutting pad. which I have already tested in a test place to give me good results.
Now I'm not aiming for a 100% fix here like I said, the owner plans to repaint it, but I just want to give this some depth and shine. I paint and at the same time remove some of the light scratches and swirls. Now, as I work on the hood, you'll notice that I'm avoiding areas where the paint is cracked or peeling, as I don't want to make that worse. I'm just going to focus my efforts on the paint which is still in good shape and while I'm at it I wanted to quickly let you know that there will be a new gardening video tomorrow, Saturday, December 9th.
There is plenty of watering to put into the ground. many hundreds of new trees and an unexpected fire to deal with, so be sure to tune in and subscribe to the new channel. gave it a little more mordant and in a matter of a few minutes the chrome looks 10 times better, although it has deep holes in some spots and is too damaged to fix now because of all the chrome moldings that are too small for my polisher, I will work on Do this by hand with a microfiber application, a Repli Ator pad and some corrective compound and a good old-fashioned elbow grease, everything should be shining in no time.
The last step in painting now is to apply some protection and for that I am using my ceramic spray coating, which will really enhance the shine and give it some protection as it stays in the owner's garage all winter. Okay, to revive this tough vehicle I will use a 303 aerospace protectant as it offers excellent UV rays. protection so the sun damage here doesn't get worse, but it also has the added benefit of making it look new again as it restores a nice deep matte black finish now that I'm putting the finishing touches on the Mustang I already did. arrange for Nolan to come pick it up and I can't wait to see his reaction because I know he's going to be completely impressed hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey yeah hey come in take a look at the car oh my gosh wow yeah.
This shined incredibly bright, it looks really good, oh my gosh look, oh wow yeah that's pretty crazy, it was like a mouse hotel in there, oh from the amount of Nest I saw in it, oh yeah it was bad ohMy God.
