I Build A $30,000 Table

Apr 11, 2024
I'm nervous, I'm missing out, some of my favorite projects to

build

are projects for you, so Vector Town Solutions reached out to

build

you an epic conference

table

, of course, I said, let's do it now, a few things to keep in mind here. It will be the biggest

table

I have ever made in my entire life. We are looking at a 16 ton conference table which, depending on the slab, will range from 40 to 36 wide. The second ridiculous aspect of this build is that I have to deliver this silly Colorado, so let's start designing for this table. Chris and I sat down and spent considerable hours coming up with concepts to present to Vector Talent Services.
i build a 30 000 table
They had a couple of things they wanted to include, one of them was their team motto, which I thought would be perfect to use on the base of the table because it was a little longer. Two want to use both brands' logos on the table top, and lastly, they would like to include all branches of the military. challenge coins on the table, as well as its own challenge coin, so we had to get creative for the design itself. You can see in the render that we came up with this cool base that encompasses three different pillar style base parts that will be made entirely. of walnut and then captured with powder coated steel, the top we landed on a single slab that we got from GOI Walnut which is absolutely ridiculous, it is one piece and will be the maximum possible size that we could put on our CNC to stay flat. and also making all the logos so this is getting more and more complicated by the minute, not to mention we designed everything to be torn down so we can take it apart and deliver it to Colorado from Pittsburgh.

More Interesting Facts About,

i build a 30 000 table...

The guys just informed me that the slab just arrived, so let's open this thing up and see how big it really is, it's a huge me, she's big, let's say, just be a man, he's a big, huh, and this is what an $8,000 piece of wood looks like. I've had this sucker here for a little over a month, I think it's important to acclimatize when you buy a slab from the other coast of the country, at least let it acclimate to the different humidity and temperatures of your store here, so let's get it out this from the box on some easels cut it to size start flattening it out and get to work I'm going to pull it back so that side wants to turn out just keep it, keep it here I've got it Okay, no, no, she's big and our CNC it can only handle 16 tons in length and that is also what the client is looking for in the project, so to get 16 feet in length and make sure we are not out of square.
i build a 30 000 table
I like to do it, I find the center of the slab in a couple of points, this one has a lot of movement. I'm just going to pick a spot, as you can see, we're going to take a chalk line and then we're going to go to the end. To finish, pull the chalk line taut and give us a line. The reason we do this is because we now have a ruler that we could then remove squarely from both sides, but this slab is so big that we have to be a little smarter. the material that we're removing, unfortunately this edge the saw went down considerably in that area right now we're going to cut a ruler down here and then we're going to take out our 16 feet of our square chalk line, ah, what? a beauty, she's hurting, be a man, your little one draws to you, that's why we use steel, these kids, very holy, now we gotta put this thing on the CNC, damn son of Sam, down there, checking the one where we're just waiting for someone to move. this closer shrug, mother I still have it, surgery is what I have in my future, how does it level our table, I mean, we've never done any of this since I've been here, so yeah, that's probably important, Damn, I want to go to Pew with someone, okay, now.
i build a 30 000 table
You're over it, stop stopping everything you're doing, for good, now we can try to turn this son of a slow turn around, okay, going down, going down, golden, right here I'm going to go up, come on, I made it out and I . I just have a few scratches, so we're good, we took a ton off the bow naturally with the first flattening pass, it's got a big indentation up there, so Chris is going to reset the table heights and all that good stuff, and then let's get her, it's so absurd, let's get her floor, let's get this off the table now so we can work on removing this bark inclusion and doing some of the detailed stuff, oh, pray for my column.
Cable, you're ready, you're ready to insert the rod. I'm ready to insert your rod anywhere. Tell me John, what did he say? Well, you probably just need to go to this area and then when I pull it, we shouldn't. I'll see 3 two one oh yeah there's no way you went up that too my elbows almost broke there big boy elbows go ahead and move it back that's how they built the pyramids it's a made up tail now Sam can you understand this, what idiot? I thought that was a good idea, okay, I'm on this now move this table back, okay, go ahead, go home, oh, okay, you know what Joe Sam's new nickname is, the father of the rod , okay, that wasn't so bad, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey, real quick, I was talking to Ron and we realized that you're not subscribed, a lot of you are not subscribed and you should subscribe. We have epic things coming up when we hit 1 million subscribers. I'm just going to say that you're going to want to wear pants when I hit a million Subs, so hit that subscribe button now, let's get into it. Now we are going to start milling all the wood for the panels that we have to glue. for the base and then the stretchers and then I started seeing a lot of things.
Chris and Sam cut out all the pieces for the base so I'm going to start soldering, we're going to do some Tigging today so I can have some control and this base has a lot of really cool things going on so I'm excited to keep going. go ahead, let's burn on top, we have this bark inclusion now, if you know me, you know. the bark never stays, even if there is a fire, this will continue to die and fall off the slab here, so I don't care how good you think it looks, we're just going to go ahead and break it off.
Take it out now, we have some room to play. One of the main concerns with this is that we have this final piece here that we have to get rid of, so I have to do an interesting epoxy filler over this and I'll make a better assessment once I clean it up, but there's a lot more under there than which is seen at the top. I think I'm going to have to turn it around, Joe. Do you think I can do this on my own? Yes Yes it's correct. why I think you shouldn't wow oh god why that reaction there's no way it's happening keep up my pace don't do this at home kids does John know I secretly work for OSHA?
We're about to arrest him here, come here, stay. There you are fine, you are fine, I got it, physics tells me otherwise, yeah, well, there's no way to suck it, dad, he's the tables, what do you mean this is how you lift and turn a 16-inch table? tons long by yourself? I don't want to. I heard something about someone else on the Internet flipping tables once again. The VOR people say I need to recruit some guys who are this strong. I'll tell you more about how winning later isn't a thing sometimes, now that we come to it.
To prepare the bottom for some epoxy, I'm actually going to take out the nylon wheels, so I'm building a sort of jig, you could call it by this epoxy pore here just to make it a little bit easier for us. I hate this technique like it terrifies me because leaks are like almost inevitable fingers crossed, so let's just lower them down to the table like this, screw them in, let it dry, then turn it over and pour the resin and pray that John Not here, so we have to try to turn this bad boy around so we can fill these bark inclusions with epoxy.
Let us put it on the CNC table so I can CNC the logo on it and, fingers crossed, we won't. up because it's an expensive slab and John would murder us if the three of us can't do this so we're a bunch of you, were you that scream? I felt like she was whole, you're okay, we're in the middle of an emergency repair. She's bleeding, so we're trying to stitch her up. There is a hole on the other side. We are using this advanced Gorilla tape to seal the hole, but this is not partly Papa John's fault, he gave us all the tools we needed.
Success now we are adapting and overcoming this. I'm throwing John under the bus. This is all your fault. Leaks are almost inevitable, as always, when we pour epoxy. Things tend not to go well. This prey that the Lord left us. John has a leak, so we're trying to fix it. Our patch job isn't working, so we're going to try to fix it some more and hopefully that will stop the leak. The next day, it became a sick work of art. Is it like a work of art? Super sick fugue at the beginning of this. So every time we had the leak, we used this paper towel method to plug the leak and then believe it or not, the epoxy cured on the paper towel, which also cured. the edge of the slab and now we would like to remove it so the slab is completely sanded, we fill all the cracks with epoxy now it's time to have this CNC bad boy carve the logo and then fill it with epoxy and then sand it again , this monster looks monstrous and incredible, the CNC came out absolutely perfect and we are very excited about this, as you can see here, there are practically no cuts on any of these letters, so it's time to fill them all again and while we fill those with a gold that the client chose I want to take a second and tell you a little bit more about Vector, let's take a second to talk about who we're doing this table for Vector Talent Solutions Vector Talent Solutions is a full spectrum recruiting and staffing company aimed at find solutions for the veteran community.
Vector Town Solutions is also dedicated to bridging the gap between corporations and job seekers. They are proud to be a disabled veteran owned business and Vector Talent Solutions has recently expanded nationally serving veterans. and non-veterans in all kinds of diverse industries in the United States, their focus is on direct placement managed services programs and partnering with military recruiting, which I think is really amazing, especially direct placement services which are absolutely free for anyone looking for a job. A lot of veterans watch the channel and I thought this could be a great opportunity for job seekers to capitalize on something that I really think is amazing because Vector Town Solutions is a veteran and a focused business that they can team up with. along with the US Department of Labor and many more opportunities to provide more jobs for veterans.
They understand the transition of veterans, which I think is amazing, so whether you are a job seeker or an employer, you should check out Vector Talent Solutions. I have a link. below so you can see more information and I am very excited and grateful that they gave us the opportunity to build this incredible conference table as well as come out and meet them in person at their amazing new facility. Thank you Vector Town Solutions. Now, let's get started. Back to this ridiculous build, now we've taken over the CNC, flattened it out. Sam spent a lot of time singing it getting nice and pretty.
Now what we're moving on, we had these guys plasma cut, welded together, and powder coated. I just got them back, so now what we're going to do is install all the threaded inserts to attach them to the legs. Attach everything so we can make our mockup and verify that everything is okay. I'm super excited because we're in the final stages, you've been seeing a lot of threaded inserts happening, we're still there, so we've got these big old BP 38 in x 1 and A4 or 1 in threaded inserts, a little tip , get some shop wax on the end. Cut them too tight, so I'll use an impact wrench and just smooth it down to piss off all the impact driver haters, mainly Sam.
I wouldn't suggest an impact driver if you're not in the heart of the wood, if you're on the edge you're going to blow the edge a couple more to get in and then we can simulate this and start finishing the top stretch. It's only been 6 months, so here's a little advice. Guys, we mounted these inserts inside the table, which means none of this will be visible. I marked with a permanent marker in here which part goes where and it matches our piece here, you probably noticed as I was inserting those threads, these fantastic looking lace. I have been wearing beautiful glasses and I am very excited to tell you that the store's sunglasses are now available for pre-sale.
We are Z87 plus ANSI certified for those of you who are asking to buy a pair now because the price will increase. will increase once pre-sale ends and I will send a signed badge with all pre-sale orders to get this all going onset easily. What we are looking at is a simple labeling system that we are going to use. By putting this together we will permanently transfer the markings that will be hidden on this piece, but it would be helpful if someone, for some reason, decided to take this table apart and wanted to move it or something in the future, so let's just go ahead and make sure everything fits and then we will turn this suction cup over, so Vector asked us to install the six military coin branches on the table, so we decided to put them on the ends, so I made templates so we can have perfect spacing at the end and let's go to route them and then epoxy them so they don't move.
Sam is now putting the double sided tape on and we have this edge here that will hold the template. We'll hold it down so it doesn't move, point it in, and voila, one of the last things we need to do with this sucker is finish it off and make a break for the whole project doesn't fit anywhere else, so we're going to head down to the door, hit it with two-component catalytic lacquer and simply go through the finishing process. We'll probably give it four or five coats total to let it out. gas and do all that fun stuff, it'll probably be a week to finish it, but that's what it takes to build big, so let's get ready, okay, now I have to choose my side, I'll stay at that point, there should be enough room to let it come.
The body below is on this side three two one down Did you just rip your pants? I'll tear my pants and now let's spray. The only thing left is to stick the coins into the slots. I'm morti at the edge and at the top. the table, so we'll use some 5 minute epoxy to bond them together. You should be ready for things like this, we like to hand deliver them and also these guys are awesome at Vector so we wanted to meet them and we're piling into a cheap U-Haul and driving across the country, come on God speed buddy we're done to get to Colorado.
Sam's truck is here in one piece. Let's see where we can deliver this. Sam, we set up that moment to make it more awkward. Sam on the camera, I can feel it good, we're off to a great start, we're walking straight into a wall, they said there are stairs so oh man I'm nervous now that they tricked me, oh come here and pass, okay, oh . man, we couldn't have been further away, uh, no, in there, holy shit, if we survive, yeah, we're going to get the base first and we could probably take it right up the elevator, set it up, say a Team Prayer to Ron Swanson and then , uh, we take as many hands as we can and I guess we get closer here.
Awesome, this isn't going to be as easy as I thought. I thought we had a real, they thought it was three levels. Rounding a corner and right into the room I don't know why I had that idea in my head Noe, isn't it broken into 2000 pieces starting with the wind Does anyone need a stretch? All warmed up. I'll take. the back part, which will be the bottom part, so I can die with it if it dies, okay? Anyone want to use a tape measure to make sure this is going to bite? Yes, I do. I am nervous.
Okay, everyone, okay, watch your fingers, we'll all try to do it. turn it over, we can rest, everyone readjust Wait, wait a minute, I'm sure it was too tall, although yes, it's 16 long and only looks 14, sorry, they told me to fit. I think back, okay, transfer step, there you go, kid. Okay, we just have to do this one more time, let's try not to drag it, please, let's move on, okay, okay, pause, pause, I'm back, ready, go ahead, oh, oh, come on. We have our hands on top, okay? We're off the St railing back we just have to do that one more time boys and girls I'm going to go up leave it on the ground behind so it'll be lighter okay we're done pause pause I'm going to sink let's be friendly let's do the same thing this way, let's put a couple of guys on the stairs, I'll go with it, I'll go with the overhead press, lighten it up and then you have it, I'm going, okay, we don't have a pole this time, woo, okay, let me get on the part from behind for eminent death and when you're ready we can go, it's okay, I'm as far away as I can, I'm losing control, it's okay, we're okay, you're okay and down, guys, good job.
You're not home yet, okay, pause, switch sides, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, down, put your arm under, no, we're fine, I don't need an arm, I have two, take your watch , okay, swing, we're good, I feel, uh, Shane, how. are you looking are you okay? can you keep swinging leaning we're clear perfect oh God bless America look at us look at us eh who would have thought no I'm going to need some come on we're at the counter there you see you want help I can't sit down there's no movie if I die record it If my spinal cord shoots out of my movie, okay, come down, okay, woo, good job, the kids love it, we kept it padded because we know them.
The kids liked the party, so it was really in 10 years of building and delivering things the hardest table move we've ever had. We tried to plan as much as we could to make it happen here. I think it got lost in translation somewhere. how big this thing was, but she's in it, we're going to unwrap it and then we're going to give them enough extra material to make sure they're satiated so they don't complain. Go Go. I know you're the only person who's been waiting for this the longest. Oh, now you and Josh were on the first call, but she lives, it's been a year, it's been a full year, so these guys came up and we were short-staffed.
We weren't going to be able to do it somehow we came together, we found a way to make it happen, what do you think is beautiful? This is something else so we have a single solid slab of light walnut that runs from about 4T down on this ends at 40 or so in amazing you think Josh would absolutely like this this was an amazing fantastic opportunity thank you so much , I was super encouraged, being able to shed light on what you guys are doing, I want to see more of the whole vector. what he's doing, I have a link below and I hope this was enough additional material for you.
