Jun 07, 2021
This isn't a video I ever wanted to make but I honestly think it was inevitable. I

broke

my

first

flip phone and in one particularly egregious case of a bad hair day, it's one of the only ones I've ever spent my own money on. Continued in this

episode

of Into The Fold, what happens when you ruin your razor and why it's no reason to distrust Motorola or

fold

able devices in general, because this phone didn't break the way you might think, so that's how it happened. I'm walking around enjoying my Sunday, I have my frankel breakfast sandwich in one hand, my razor and the other I'm on my phone and I just drop it, I mean literally it just falls out of my hand for no reason discernible more than maybe my hand is cold. crashes into the sidewalk in a horrible murder scene, in fact, it was so brutal that the barista here gave me a free coffee because he was feeling sick, thanks by the way, hairdresser and coffee shop, um, but the phone was destroyed, she told me He asked what the damage was and it was kind of like that Armageddon scene, what kind of damage are we doing?

Absolutely sir, at least on the outside, the Gorilla Glass 5 back plate had a

n corner, while the same material on the front was completely destroyed by the pulverized impact. enough glass to expose the touch controller for the quick view screen and it broke that screen too. The only thing that isn't broken even though it was dropped while open is the

fold

ing screen inside. Yeah, we'll get back to that, so yeah, pretty terrible start. Until one Sunday, it's been a while since I broke one of my own phones, they're normally review devices anyway as I sat here tweeting and texting and making full use of my fully functional folding screen, I started analyzing my options despite five years of encouragement.

Customers got insurance for their phones when I sold them. I didn't have any on this one, so knowing I would have to pay for a repair, I started making phone calls and from big corporate chains like you, I fixed it. independent stores in Brooklyn no one offered to repair the new shaver you guys don't repair the razer 2020 right no dice okay you know someone who does it right I should say we fixed a phone only one store I called said they could do it. but the guy seemed confused about what knife I was talking about and wasn't about to go all the way across town just to be told they thought I was talking about a decade old droid, this is something you just have to keep in mind unfortunately.

It matters when you're shopping for a low volume device, so I decided to go straight to the source once I passed Motorola's repair portal thinking it was in Kansas and then telling me there were no surface locations in the entire US, It was actually quite simple. When I logged in I told him which of my devices I was trying to repair and somehow I completely missed how much it would cost. Here, the part where it says dropping a fragile phone on cold concrete like a fool is a replacement, not a repair situation that could save me the surprise when I saw that a replacement razor would cost me about the same as a new one, about a thousand dollars.

Now again, I don't blame Motorola for this, the damage is mine, the refusal to use a case is on. Me, the lack of insurance is my fault, but just before I lost all hope, I was talking to my friend David Amell about how I bought this and he reminded me that sometimes the credit card companies don't care who it was from. blame. I purchased the knife with my Chase Visa card, which has a protection plan that can reimburse you for loss, damage, or involuntary and accidental separation, in the legalese, assuming you purchased the product within the last 120 days, so I called Chase after getting a digit for the

time. of the wrong number and have an exciting mini adventure.
Do you want something very special, something that seems attractive to you, without restrictions, without rules at this moment? Credit card companies have changed since I was a kid. I started the claim process by submitting online forms and then Chase sent me an email. say he needed more forms and then they told me I had to go back to one of those repair shops to have someone sign a document saying how much the repair would cost at the time of publication. My claim is still pending approval, but it looks like I'm going to make about 500 bucks, sure it's only half the cost of the phone, but 500 for a mistake that was my fault, I'll take it and order my new liquid mercury shaver as soon as I see another one.
A holiday sale popup appears, let me know in the comments or on Twitter if you see one now. I contacted Motorola to make sure there wasn't a repair option I was missing, but although the company sent some lovely cases. sympathy donation, thanks motorola, ironically the only special support options for the shaver concern the one component everyone expects to fail, the folding screen. Friends, you will see this story shared in blog posts and quote tweets and even people leaving comments on this very video. Without having seen the video first, if you can believe it, they're going to say things like, well, you know, this is just another example of how

foldable

devices aren't ready for prime time.
I encourage those people to consider this as all the damage to this phone. supported in its fall would have been supported by a slab phone made of the same material in fact the only thing that is not damaged the risk of repeating myself is the folding part so that we know what lesson not to draw from this, let's go over some that You should take seriously the phones one and concrete, don't mix them up so be careful, two, if you're clumsy, be safe and use a case, and three, get insurance, you'll regret not having it when you have to pay for the same phone twice.
I'll link to a good article I found about the best insurance for unlocked phones, but your wireless carrier may also offer you an option and flip phone manufacturers have their own programs. Motorola offers several extended warranty options that charge between $35 and $400 that you can activate up to 30 days after purchase (yes, I missed that) and Samsung has similar offers that include screen replacements on its foldable products for a fee. My final thought here, well I'm obviously sad that this happened to my favorite clam shell, the Liquid Mercury Coating, is that it justifies why I do this series in the first place.
In the Fold is all about long-term folding use in the real world, the ups and downs, so I will continue to use every folding screen I can get my hands on. As long as I can keep it and I will continue to accompany you every step of the way, subscribe to Mr Mobile on YouTube so you don't miss future installments of the topic of this video. It was a retail razer 5g unit that I, Michael Fisher, purchased while Motorola made comments and these cases in the house certainly did not commission me or otherwise compensate me for this video.
It would be a really strange PR strategy and the same goes for Chase. and everyone else mentioned this video is not sponsored the opinions are my own and motorola is watching it with you for the first time until next time thanks for watching and if you can't stay home at least stay safe and wear a mask As long as you keep moving my friends
