I AM THE GOD OF THIS WORLD

May 06, 2024
so let's start

this

project over the weekend gareth is here to help me we're being a little sneaky let's start by hiding the workspace what i'm doing and why i call it operation tahiti 80 years ago my wife and i spent a month in Tahiti, so we had a lot of fun, like snorkeling and doing a lot of things. I spent my time drawing and doing whatever I wanted and I built a

world

specifically

this

world

, this is Sundar's world. I'm going to take my world map and turn it into a world, so to make it easier for me to work in my spare time, I prepared a small map grid by taking the map I have and preparing it to be laser cut.
i am the god of this world
This should make My job super easy. Traced water will reduce the layers. The mountain trail will give me something to pile on top of. I think you get the idea. Let's put together a giant puzzle. I find every step in the terrain and board construction process super fun. We are done with this stage, the kind of roughing and blocking things, especially when I have a big hot knife to use, is like carving butter in a really satisfying way, shaping the ripple of the board, the basis of the oceans texture , it will be sand. I'm going to add a little bit of rust dye, a bunch of mod podge and a little bit of water, this is the exciting part, it's a lot of fun, so this sculpts a mold or modeling compound, this is going to be mostly what's happening . to make the mountains happen and I'm going to make up quite a bit because I'm going to make all the mountains boards that look better, a lot of green and a little bit of red, not much, yeah, look who needs. measurements uh okay this is it this is the last thing I'm going to do today because it's going to harden overnight and everything will be completely hard and then we can do the really fun stuff.
i am the god of this world

More Interesting Facts About,

i am the god of this world...

These are 3D printed towns and cities, oh my gosh, they're normally meant to be printed at this size, this is the default size and the idea of these things is that you can make your dungeons and dragons maps or whatever by printing, painting and interconnecting these things and we created a complete map on the table so you can see what they are for and what they look like in the end, but as you can see mine are a little smaller in comparison and this is where I have tried not to bother them with how dizzy I am from the fact. that I am bringing my own world to life because every detail of this place is something that I have in my head, they are real places to me and I am actually putting the cities in which they have names, things have happened and I love it. but suffice it to say that if what I love about making things and creating art is bringing worlds and stories to life, this is the type of project that really excites me, so I think I've put most of the stuff into it, this has been the most tedious part so far, but I've actually matched my game map and all the cities to this map, which is actually very satisfying, but then when we leave this area, I haven't actually planned where the cities will go , I know. that this is the nissia and it's a little more coastal, there will be a lot of vineyards, hills and lush vegetation and all that here, this is the desert civilization, so they are following the path of the water. for a trade route, a big coastal town and a big trading town over here with these mountain people, I'm having a lot of fun, it's not drying up.
i am the god of this world
I've had this heat gun on for about half an hour and it has dried this area out, but it's applied very generously and it's quite wet, we'll close the blinds and put it out in the sun. One thing I want to do before I take it out to dry. Now the iron needle is huge, it is like kilometers. tall so I can be pretty aggressive with my green stuff sculpting here now let's take it outside so this can dry perfect it's pretty heavy okay hey rob oh pink hey dave don't look we're being so reserved, this is how Garrett is editing right now Hi Gareth Hi, I need you to help me carry a table.
i am the god of this world
I love the little editing corner of it. That good is. So I have them ready because the next step is going to be creating a little base coat of color over everything, give it a lot of varied colors, we're going to apply a base coat baby, so this step does a lot of the legwork for me, obviously, I have everything the terrain there, but as far as putting color in by doing the base layers and all the sprays I can really create those gradients that I can also follow as a pattern when I put the other materials later and of course it brings everything to life now that I left the aerosol sprays.
It looks a little bit faded a little bit flat because we lose. I don't know anything about the depth of the cracks, so I'm going to create a little wash using just a little bit of water, a little bit of black paint, and a little bit of green. a little bit of red in theory this will create a nice earthy dark brown wash, but I think this will add a lot of depth very quickly. We are finally here. We're finally at the step I've been dreaming of using all of this. Now I have to give a big shout out and thank you to Woodland Scenics.
This video is not sponsored, but they sent a bunch of bases, fields, and table stuff on the table and I'm stealing it because I want to do this. stuff, everything up until this point has been just basic craft materials, foam, glue, wood paint, but everything from this point on is forest landscapes and this already looks amazing, but just wait, just chew on it, I knew it, I can't, it's just that it's a slow hanging fruit. Hang up, this is the step I always look forward to the most because it makes the biggest change very quickly and with minimal effort and plus, I'm going to be honest, this takes me back to my childhood that my dad used to do. model railway dioramas and that's probably where a lot of my interest in you know, Warhammer and board games comes from, but just the smells and the textures and the feeling of just putting things down really drive me to learn and discover that I loved this.
I got into it when I was a teenager and it's very satisfying to see them come together now, as you can see this alone looks really cool. You left this outfit. I'll be back tomorrow, it's the next day, the glue has dried, let's see. It looks pretty much the same as it did a few seconds ago in the edit because everything is in the same place, but this is the fun thing because I can tilt it very satisfyingly and brush it off. It has made an amazing base layer. Now just move on. I like the details and the features, which is great and oh my gosh, look at this, oh my gosh, I'm so happy, it's great.
I'm going to put bigger blobs of glue and glue this thick grass down, so this is much coarser. as you can imagine that the other things and in the context of this scale in groups glued to the board like clustered, they will look like large areas of forest, it will be incredible. I wanted this continent, this board to feel massive and this was the step that really made the texture of the forests and the trees add the snow cover to the mountains. This really was the adjustment step that gave the vibe that I was really going for, which, frankly, you know, that tourist-like information center.
It maps things that are like a small diorama representation of the place you are. I wanted this to feel like that, like you're looking at a place that's a real place, a world that exists in my head, okay, it's the night before the reveal. Tomorrow morning has to be the reveal because we have to edit and finish the video tomorrow because tomorrow is the last day of work before vacation so no pressure but I'll be late to finish this, it's been drying up so that I have done it. I haven't seen this because it was soaked in glue oh okay yeah yeah this is good I love it this will look so good in the reveals.
I'm very excited and I think there's literally one thing left, but it's higher, more intense pressure. And the scary thing is that the water, if I don't seal it perfectly, will leak everywhere and ruin the spout. I could have gotten the shorelines or levels wrong or they could warp during construction which could mean water could end up all over the middle. of one area or too low in some areas which could ruin this step could ruin the board so I'm a little scared and it's 9:30 at night so I'm expecting a late one and I don't know if it's going to cure tomorrow, which is when the revelations are that could ruin the guy, you know what I'm going to do, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I'm feeling elated right now, okay, I've glued an acrylic border around this so I can pour the resin , but it has to be airtight, any gap and the resin will just leak out and ruin the board, so I'm going to use UV resin first and just make a bead along each edge that I can create. a space, cure it with UV rays and hope that keeps it airtight.
I'm mixing ink with Prussian blue alcohol to give it that oceanic color, there you have it, okay pour a little at a time, you can see it's not too dark and I can actually test how opaque it will be. look at the board that looks pretty good, I thought I might have mixed too much but turns out I barely mixed enough just for this side of the board and this is the shallow one so this is the smallest body of water outside of the two the water looks glassy and very nice. I love that feeling of depth.
The ink rests in the lower areas which makes it look super deep. You can also see the edges inside the water. Ah, this is going to be really cool, I just hope this side works well too and I can match the color. The pour is ready. I think it went well, but any airborne contaminants that float around and touch this surface while it cures will be there. forever so I have to try to protect it and this is basically a giant candle so I'm going to have to be very gentle here and not breathe oh my God I think we're okay good morning I'm late I just want to see if it's ready I'm just going to touch it and See if it is dry to the touch.
It's a little sticky to the touch, but I think that's to be expected. It's not ideal to remove it because I don't want any contaminants yet. to get to the surface, but I have some final touches to do on the board before the final reveal, so I also don't know how the ink settled in the pour, how it looks, oh oh, that looks pretty good, okay ? and all I want to do is fill the rivers, maybe touch up the small towns and we have a world that looks at that in that place, okay, hopefully, I'll remove the borders, okay, we have some flexibility. recording this to summarize everything in the heat of the last day of work we are very close to the line I worked until 2 am last night gareth arrived at 7 in the morning to finish this video to finish this project why did I sign?
I put this together to wrap up the year where I could or should have made a reaction video or something much simpler, well honestly, because in my mind I had three days to do whatever I wanted or, more specifically, something I really care about. and I really care about this world that I started building seven years ago and that over time and more recently with my friends in tabletop roleplaying has become something that I treasure and I wanted to make something that represents that and share it with you to show him. This in all its splendor.
I hope you'll be patient as I introduce you to the world of Sunder with a dramatic narrator voice and some epic gunplay. 782 years ago, King Grayson banished all competing tribes and clans from the land he claimed as his own, the nation of Gray Dale was born and has since reigned as the supreme military and commercial power over the continent, but those tribes Incipient outcasts have survived ever since and have even flourished in their various territories far to the east, across the shining sea, which Nissia has become. The land of culture and abundance, is now a matriarchal society rich in art, wine and knowledge, and has deep roots in other nations, as the Nisians have ventured to offer their services and skills in exchange for what they value, above all, knowledge, far beyond the west.
The desert of the Envel plains. The empire of Fellmore has grown rich beyond measure, largely due to the wealth of gold from the cold clans of the southern mountain crown, its cities filled with towering sandstone and concrete structures, and even ordinary citizens. They are adorned with silks, gold and fine finger crystals, the Phelan have bred their own race of slaves from the prodigy of the cold mountain crown giant, a race they call the failed cult, managed like cattle, The average decaying adult cult measures between twenty and eight feet tall. and is very muscular and responsible for building the largest felmal structures that support their agricultural efficiency and is rumored to become the most imposing military force in all of Sunder despite these challenges to power.
Gray Dale remains strong in large part due to the relentless loyalty of its people to King Rendrick III who reigns in the capital, inspiring the city named after the colossal structure at his command that pierces the sky and casts a shadow over the city. earth every day when the sun rises, here you are, I'm sure you have some suspicions Since it is this specific group that has beenhidden from the truth of Operation Tahiti, let me start by saying that a year ago you all volunteered your time to tell some stories and spend time at the table a year later, here we are.
I have a studio, we're doing bigger, cooler things than ever, and I made a little tribute to one of the stories we're currently telling you. Oh, great, it's a map. I made a new map. It is extremely ambitious. Sorry, this is really great, it was really fun. I know you know how desperate I've been to build a board, so where does it draw you? where do you live here? Yes, it finishes the white cape buildings on the coast that draw me directly to finish. Yes, yes, it's incredible there. We've been bringing stories to life for the past few years. year, many different ones, this is the current one and it's so much fun as we all enjoy these things in our imaginations that feel real and fun, even cooler when we can get art and make cool things for them, so thank you.
For telling interesting stories with you, so like I said, I could have taken the easy way out on the last day of work, which is that we now have three and a half hours left to finish this video.
