bearded

dragon

that they got from a friend of their father who went into the military and wasn't taking care of this dragon.

how we saved this dying bearded dragon...

She came in a 20 gallon container and there were no There are a lot of details other than the fact that they quote that they weren't sure when she last ate, so basically the condition of her in the picture was pretty hard to make out. This is the picture the previous owner sent us or the type of rescuer she sent. For us the coin was just for scaling but you can see it is lying down and when we unpacked it it didn't respond at all and it's always dubious to decide if certain animals should be mailed to us based on the condition we're basically in and didn't realize exactly how sick she was, so if we had known, we probably would have been a lot more cautious about shipping her because sometimes we turn away sick animals for that reason, but we went ahead and did it with the carrier and luckily.

She arrived alive, but we barely made an appointment with the vet I was using, and I'm no longer a big fan of that vet because of my experiences with some of these animals, so unfortunately I don't like my vet now and that's like the 6th or 7th vet I've used so it's a little disappointing. I'll talk about that a little bit now too because we're in a rush to get this animal barn, you could say, I guess. or basically keep her alive until that appointment. We've got everything we could as far as nutrition for her, so we just put her in a really nice warm tub, a bowl of water that's not too deep and not too shallow to make sure that she. she doesn't drown in it, but anyway she couldn't move, she couldn't walk because she was very weak and it was quite depressing, so we decided to put something in her, we would just make a little smoothie with what she ate normally we took the blender, we put some cabbages, some crickets and some water, we mixed it up and put it in a syringe, we syringed this really disgusting mixture, I tried it myself, it wasn't great, it needed some sugar. but it was good and it was something to put a little sugar in there.

I think we could have put some strawberries in there too a little nutrition, a little moisture and some energy to keep her going until the appointment. We were monitoring her as closely as we could and at some points it was impossible to tell if she was even breathing and I really thought she died like four or five times over the course of the time we had her over the last two years. About three weeks because she's been so bad, she scheduled her appointment with the vet and we went to that. I think she was a day or two after calling to schedule the appointment and I was curious to see what the vet's opinion was and she really was like that. it's no different than what I expected, so they ended up putting him on tesla cells, which is a type of antibiotic, and we bought an omnivorous mixture to mix in a syringe and a feeder instead of just vegetables, where you knew we would need antibiotics and this mixture didn't he was very helpful the physical exam did nothing for him and one of the things about this vet is that although he has been one of the most trustworthy ones he doesn't seem to be concerned about cross contamination, we brought in a second animal. with us who had a simple respiratory infection, all we needed was a prescription for antibiotics and they ended up not washing their hands between the animals, they ended up using the same tongue depressor for both animals and they ended up using the same tub for the super and unfortunately this This isn't the first time they've done this, maybe I'll go over some of those experiences, but I'm going to rant a lot about vets.
I made a post about this on Instagram and it was just pretty upsetting and disappointing and they were no help at all uh because as a fun fact, tazicef is the medication that was prescribed for the last five or six six animals that I had, they gave it to us for everything from unknown illnesses to respiratory infections to injured jaws to outside problems and all sorts of other really random problems that aren't related basically it's always tazes f um no matter what vet I use so I complained about this on that Instagram post and the people. they're like well yeah because it's a drug that works for everything of course like you're going to use it so the vet is still here which I don't disagree with this but it's kind of annoying having to pay him to the vet this additional charge. something we know we're going to have to use, so we end up buying a huge bottle.
There's one set left so we just have to have a bunch and now we've basically been treating animals that we think need us without In that vet's opinion this is very risky if you haven't worked with many animals but right now we are as a small team that has worked with only about 300 animals or so, so I would say that we are confidently giving the animals the appropriate antibiotics as needed and fortunately the testosterone is injected into their front legs and into the muscle there. It is quite easy to inject a reptile if you are doing it for the first time.
I would like to recommend that you have a vet show her how to do it and then they put that in her and then the carnivore mix that you just mixed was put in with water and fed very slowly so that she only had a small dose that they gave her daily and again , even after these first few treatments we came to find her what we thought was dead but somehow she wasn't so this has been the most stressful and unhealthiest bearded dragon we have had so far and it has been very sad to see it.
Just lying there I was completely worried that her quality of life wasn't worth keeping alive because of how bad it was at certain points her mouth was wide open because she didn't seem to have the strength to close it and her tongue literally just lined up and she looked very bad during this whole process but after the taze injections continued and the syringe feeding continued and also the daily baths to get extra moisture in her, make her nice and warm, keep her clean, help her. after stool she continued to do this, the vet actually recommended that we take blood and stool samples.
I decided to opt out of taking blood because it didn't seem very necessary and then I did the stool sample or at least paid for it and I was going to bring it back but then we realized that a stool sample doesn't show much; It mainly shows if an animal has parasites or not, that's the first thing they look for in a stool sample and we were already extremely sure the animal didn't have parasites and the vet said it probably didn't which again the vet's opinions they can be doubtful. b the animal is an adult, so generally an animal is going to be extremely stunted and, although it is still very small, it is larger than that as if a baby was basically born with parasites, it would stay very small because the parasites are taking over. most of that nutrition, it could still grow a little but I would expect it to be bigger than this, on top of that we know it was in captivity its entire life so it wasn't picked up its entire life.
There were no other reptiles with this one, so we know it didn't get parasites from anything else and it basically wasn't fed, but then when it was fed. They fed me things that wouldn't have parasites like captive bread and sex so basically the stool sample was just a waste of seventy dollars and I'm going to ask for that money back because I didn't even bring it because it seems unnecessary to me and she's very better now, so it was a bit strange, like it was added to the bill for no reason, which has bothered me a bit, but other than that I'm pretty sure it looks like it's parasite-free. that she was so neglected that she was so malnourished and so neglected that she was barely clinging to life, but she seemed to be coping quite well, this is what she looks like now after about two weeks of injections and um syringe feeding and daily baths to keeping her warm and everything, and other than that she's just been chilling under a nice warm lamp, she's been warming up under a nice worm lamp ever since and now we have this beardie and it's super cool to see the difference and it's very rewarding to see how much has changed now that you can do it.
The best part was when I saw her walk for the first time. It was like a baby taking her first steps, but it's actually cool because babies are gross and this beauty. It's not um, so being able to walk alone and get to her bowl to soak when she wants, not soak when she doesn't want to and be under her heat when she wants and then walk away when she doesn't want to, that's the best. Something exciting to see in this animal, so there have been a lot of different animals with pretty sad conditions that they've been going through and I'm definitely going to show you more, but I think Ellie is one of the coolest people we've seen change.
So far, I wanted to go over her little adventure of being close to death to being animated again and you can see her now, she moves, she looks around, she can keep her eyes open, she can keep her mouth closed, a lot of very nice things that we can do. I've seen how excited I am about future sick beards and that sounds weird because I don't want futuristic beards, but let's be real, we're going to have future sick beards, it's inevitable, it's part of what we do, that's the way it will be And I'm very happy to to say we'll be sure to take a look at the nose, um, as they come, so yeah, Ellie's not perfect, but I would like to see her gain some weight.
She still looks a little dehydrated and she still needs to gain more. energy although she is a little lively now, I think her energy will run out pretty quickly and she will need a long rest after this video, which is to be expected because she is a little recovering baby, I actually don't know how old she has she. she's not a baby, she's at least a few years old, she's probably even a woman, yeah okay, so what I regret and the things I would change throughout this process is I mean I wouldn't send her again, but it ended up working. so I'm happy they sent it to us. um, she's come pretty far too.
I think she might have come from California or something. Maybe she's thinking about a different beard and we're in North Carolina so it was a pretty far way to get the help she needed, but I'm glad I did it. I am very unhappy with my vet right now. I will continue to raise my concerns with the vet and overall I have been extremely disappointed with all the veterinary service I have received while running this company. We do not have a veterinarian on call. We simply go to vests that we trust and can usually get a pretty decent discount because we are considered a listing rescue.
Legally we're not a rescue, we're not a nonprofit, but we rescue animals, so we get that rescue discount and it's still way too expensive, like the stuff I buy for parasites. I forgot the name at the top. my head, but it's just an oral dose of liquid that helps kill those parasites. It costs about thirty dollars for small doses for the animals. We can get a full bottle on Amazon for about $15, so many of us just mark up. to make money and of course many of us care about animals but certainly not all so I would like to make a whole video about my thoughts on vets and my experiences but this is just the most recent because many had to do with what Ellie went through and the money we wasted now, in the end we didn't waste it because everything helped her, but there are some things that we shouldn't have done and that I won't do. for example her stool now other than that I'm impressed that she doesn't have metabolic bone disease. her spinal structure looks good.
Her legs look good. Her face is set well. Her jaw has grown nicely and her eyes look super animated now. that she would have expected to be verydifferent depending on the agriculture he was raised in, so this person who went to the army, I don't know if he had the right enclosure but otherwise he was careless or if everything was wrong, um because they didn't know when he last ate, which I still think is strange, so the goal is to have her awake and available, we're not rushing, we'll take our time, I'm sure it will be at least another. several weeks or maybe even an extra month or whatever to make sure she's perfect and doesn't really have some kind of relapse or anything like that, but she looks good so it's been a while since I made a video with this hair in my mouth for a while.
Which is why it's been about two weeks since my last video. I think over two weeks a lot has actually happened, there are a lot of animals here and I was also sick for about four days so that didn't help but things have been going overall. very good and a lot of the animals that you saw or that you might have seen if you haven't seen them if you should um of the sick animals that we currently have in rehab, they are all doing much better and I'm very excited. to show you as well and feature them in some videos, so that's ellie, the breeder dragon that basically came from
