Jun 06, 2021
What's up guys, welcome back to car costs and technology. In today's video, we're going to delve into the setup of a 2020 Corvette c8 to show you how to unleash the

full

power

of the car, have

full

access to the

power

without the limitations and restrictions imposed by the driver assistance software programs that come in the car by default now, before we talk about removing them or limiting interference from these programs, I want to make sure everyone understands that they are in place to keep you safe and protect you. Definitely don't try to mess with these settings or any of the modes we're going to talk about in this video unless you're on a track and have many years of experience driving a sports car, these cars have a lot of power. and things can get out of control very quickly guys so stay safe, make sure if you are going to try this you are on a closed course, have plenty of experience and know exactly what to expect, wouldn't want anyone to get it . hurt or damage your seats in the process of trying out some settings and accessing the wildest or rawest Corvette c8 experience.

I also want to say a big thank you to my friend Zach at Corvette Direct for letting me spend the day reviewing and testing. Get your car out, this is the car we'll be using for the examples in this video, so I'm sure by now we're all pretty familiar with the different driving modes available on the Corvette c8, as many of them have led to starting from the

corvette

c7 generation you have modes like weather course sport track and now you have the addition of my mode you also have z mode my mode will give you the ability to customize the things that you like but it removes the things that You don't like them in other ways.

I think it's a really cool feature. I'm looking forward to adapting it to my specific car. Z mode will give you access to more

performance

or driving, but I want to focus. More on sport and track mode for this video because obviously we're talking about

unlock

ing the car and harnessing its full potential when you take it to the track. Now I want to mention it because I haven't heard much about this and in the owner's manual it is mentioned that if you plan on tracking the car they suggest you add two extra quarts of fluid to the dual clutch transmission so I would definitely talk to your dealer or with your technician at the dealership to do it if you plan to track the car, you also don't need to drain the extra fluid after the track event, so it might be a good option if you plan to track the car.

Let's talk about the different modes and settings you're going to use. you want to use to get the full power out of your car and make sure it suits the type of driving you will be doing and first we need to look at the two driver assistance software that will be activated by default. it could interfere with your track driving and that will be traction control and stability control. They both try to achieve the same goal which is to keep you safe from losing control, but they do it in a completely different way, so in traction control that system will monitor the spin of the rear wheels and can limit it by reducing engine power and applying brakes to help keep the rear wheels engaged, so you're obviously trying to do a Burnout which will interfere and stop you, which is pretty self explanatory now that you're talking about stability control, which also monitors the steering turn. the wheels, but it is more a monitoring of the four wheels in the trajectory.

Make sure you are not under the steering wheel or on the steering wheel. You can see where this would definitely get in the way when you're doing something like drifting or trying to. To do a donut at this point you know that the stability control is going to go crazy and can actually apply the brakes to any of the four wheels to help keep the car from losing control, so these two systems work together to keep the car in control and they run by default over either mode so even if you're in sport track mode these are always on, now you can turn them off and we're basically going to discuss why maybe you should consider a road alternative if you want to get more out of the car, but to turn them off you know you can go to the traction control button right next to the mode selector and basically a single press will turn off just the traction control system, so Again , that will be a system that will monitor only the rear wheels, which will give you access to let the rear wheels go a little bit more, but you will still have stability control on now if you want to disable stability control and whatever you're dealing with of doing.
If you want all systems off you will long press the traction control button and that will turn off not only the traction control but also the stability control at this point especially if you are in track mode this should basically be the most version untamed and unrestricted Corvette c8, you know, at this point, again in track mode with both off, there shouldn't be any interference from these driver assistance software. I would still think that somewhere in the car's brain, so to speak, there are algorithms that will interfere if things seem to be going catastrophic, but I don't know, obviously I wouldn't want to put that to the test, but again, with these two off, there it is. where you are and again you access all the power of the car.
Having no restrictions now, this is not really recommended and you could actually increase your lap times and be a better overall track driver or better times on the race track, whatever you want to call it, using a different menu that is

hidden

in track. or sport mode and that will be a competitive driving mode or

performance

traction management. Now these are great because instead of just turning off the stability control and turning off the garbage control, they give you the ability to customize how much they interfere with your driving experience track setup etc., they are really important and this is which I'm sure GM and I would recommend if you're going to the track instead of just turning everything off and I want to talk about performance traction management first because this is only available for Mag Ride equipped cars.
The car I'm using for demo purposes has magnetic ride control, so when you're in track mode you can click the traction control button twice quickly. Now I know. It's a little confusing all the different steps here, whether it's a single press, hold, click twice, but again to summarize, a single press will turn it off, just press the traction control and hold, it will It will turn off traction control and stability control in track mode if you press it twice. You will quickly open the performance traction management window. Now within this window you will have five different settings available and you will basically be able to scroll through them using the mode dial as if you were scrolling through track sport mode like you normally would and basically within these different

options

they are self explanatory but ESC activated will obviously represent electronic stability control activated, so the first will be wet with ESC activated, so obviously for dry wet track conditions with ESC activated.
In dry track conditions, it will limit or interfere less, but still give you some interference from the electronic stability control. Then you have a sporty one, which will be for you, the average driver, the intermediate driver, who wants less interference and a sportier ride. but there is still some stability control interference, things get out of control, then you have sport 2, which will disable stability control or race, which will also have stability control disabled, these will be more completely unlimited. The modes will be a more similar experience to what you would have if the garbage control and stability control were completely disabled, but it is accessible through this performance traction management system and it will give you access to, basically, you know, more refinement, more customization.
These software or these programs will help you instead of an interview or make your driving more difficult, so I think this is definitely the recommended way, especially if you have a magnetic rat in your car, to use these menus when you're on the track and take advantage of the maximum. the software without interfering or bothering you when you are trying to have fun with the car now if you don't have mag ride or even if it is not necessary to try to access the performance traction management in sport mode you can access what is called competitive driving mode and this It's basically a similar performance traction management mode that would have fewer customization

options

, but it's accessed in a very similar way and is a little confusing as to how your car is equipped again, your options will be different if you have magnetic rod or not, but if you don't have magnetic ride, you should be able to access this in sports or track.
If you have magnetic ride control, it should be sport-only, but you'll access it the same way with dual pressing the traction control button to bring up competitive driving mode. Now, a competitive driving mode is great because it still gives you some of the benefits of the stability control software again. It also gives you access to launch control, so if you're going to hit the race track, you know it's very important, be careful, put your mode selector in sport, double click the traction control button and Your competitive driving mode will start. You now have access to the home control.
You know, the competitive driving mode here is an is. A good alternative for those of you who don't have mag ride or are looking for a similar performance traction management where your system is a little more customized and gives you some assistance when you need it, but not as much. interference like it's fully on, so again, these modes can be really useful and I and I think this is a much better route or approach if you're going to take your car to the track, whether it's a race track or a track. to take advantage of. those software are to help you increase your times and improve your launches instead of just turning them all off so it's fun to talk about having unlimited access to all the power of the car but I think it's best to look into these modes but let me know what .
You think in these ways, you know, I think this is really interesting and it's kind of complex. I guess you could say you know, with so many options and so many different modes available just to summarize again, you only have one. press to turn off traction control only, you have to hold to turn off stability control and traction control, you have a double click or quickly press it twice to access competitive driving mode or performance traction management, depending Whether you're in Sport or Track mode and whether your car is equipped with Mag Ride or not, there are a lot of variables there.
I would recommend that you check your owner's manual if you are trying to use these modes, but I want to give you an overview of them, make sure you know that they are there to get the most out of your car, but within all of these modes I think there are a lot of benefits. and different advantages for those of us who plan to take them. the car to the track I know for myself, I do not plan to use any of these modes or especially turn off the assistant software on public roads, moreover, I am eager to use them if I go to driving school.
I know it's offered to new Corvette owners, so again, these are all really good and valuable features of the car, but they need to be used at the right time and make sure you have a good understanding of the potential and capabilities of the car. Let me know what you think. I look forward to it. After hearing your comments on this video, I've done something similar to this in the past for c7 Corvettes because it's a very similar setup, obviously I wanted a quick update for all the new c8 Corvette owners and new Corvette enthusiasts I've joined to this ecosystem as the c8 has attracted a lot of new attention, but I hope you found the video useful and get the most out of your car again.
Make sure you're careful and only take advantage of these modes on one track, but watch. We talked to you in the comments below and I appreciate you watching and all the comments, we'll talk to you next time you have a great day.
