Jun 06, 2021
What's up guys? Welcome back to car costs and technology. In today's video, we'll take a deep dive into setting up a 2020 c8 Corvette to show you how to unleash the car's

full

power

. To have

full

access to

power

without the limitations and restrictions imposed by the driver assistance software programs that come in the car by default now, before we talk about removing them or limiting the interference from these programs, I want to make sure that everyone understand these were put in place to keep you safe and secure definitely do not attempt to alter these settings or any of the modes we will be talking about in this video unless you are on a track and have many years of experience driving a sports car these cars have a lot of power. and things can get out of hand very quickly guys so stay safe make sure if you're going to try these you're on a closed course, very experienced and know exactly what you're in for. hurt or prey age their seats in the process of trying out a few configurations and accessing the most untamed or raw experience of the Corvette c8.

I also want to say a huge thank you to my friend Zach from Corvette Direct for letting me spend the day reviewing and testing his car this is the car we'll be using for the examples in this video so I'm sure by now we're all pretty familiar with the different driving modes available on the

corvette

c8 as many of them have been carried over from the

corvette

c7 generation it has modes like weather tour sports track and now it has the addition of my mode it also has the Z mode my mode will give you the ability to customize the things you like but remove the things you don't like in other ways.

I think that's a really cool feature. I hope to adapt it to my specific car. Z mode will give you access to higher

performance

or driving but I want to focus more on sport and track mode for this video because obviously we are talking about

unlock

ing the car to bring out its full potential when you take the car to the track now I want to mention why I haven't heard much about this and it mentions in the owner's manual that if you plan to have the car tracked they suggest adding an extra two quarts of fluid to the dual clutch transmission so I would definitely talk to your dealer or your tech at the dealer About doing that if you plan to track the car is also not required to drain the extra fluid after your track event, so it might be a good option if you plan to track the car.

Let's talk about the different modes and settings you'll want to use to get full power. your car and make sure it suits the type of driving you will be doing and first we need to look at the two current driver assistance software that will be on by default and could interfere with your driving on track. g and that will be traction control and stability control both try to achieve the same goal which is to keep you from losing control but they do it in a completely different way so in traction control that system will monitor steering the rear wheel and you can limit that by reducing engine power and applying the brakes to help keep the rear wheels engaged, so you're obviously trying to do a burnout that's going to interfere and stop you. it also monitors wheel spin but it's more of a monitoring of all four wheels on trajectory make sure you're not under steer over steer you can see where this would definitely get in the way when you're doing something like drifting or trying to do a turn donut at this point, you know the stability control is going to go crazy, and you can actually apply the brakes to any of the four given wheels to help keep the car from losing control, so these two systems The Elements They work together to keep you in control of the car and work by default over either mode, so even if you're in motorsport track mode, they're always on now, you can turn them off and basically us.

We're going to discuss why maybe you should consider an alternate route if you want to get more out of the car, but to turn them off you know you can go to the traction control button right next to the mode selector and basically a single press is going to turn it off. just your traction control system so again it will be a system that monitors only the rear wheels giving you access to get the rear wheels a little bit more loose but still have the stability control on now if you want to turn off the traction control stability as well regardless of what you try to do wherever you want all systems to turn off you're going to long press the traction control button and that will turn off not only traction control but also stability control at this point especially if you're in track mode this should basically be the wildest no holds barred version of the corvette c8 you know at this point back in track mode c With both off, there should be no interference from these driver assistance software.
I would still think somewhere in the brain of the cars so to speak there are algorithms that will interfere if things seem to be going catastrophic but I don't know obviously I wouldn't want to put that to the test but again with these two off there it is where you are and that is again accessing the full power of the car without restrictions now this is not really recommended and it could actually increase your lap times and be a better track driver overall or better race track times whatever you want to call it using a different menu that is sort of

hidden

in track or sport mode and will it be competitive driving mode or

performance

traction management now these are great because instead of just turning off stability control by turning off crap control they give you the ability to customize how much they interfere with the track setup for your driving experience etc so these are really important before and this is really what I'm sure GM and I would recommend if you're going to the track instead of just turning everything off and I want to talk about performance traction management first because this is only available for mag ride equipped cars, that the car i'm using for demo purposes has magnetic ride control so when it's in track mode you can click the traction control button twice quickly now again i know it's a bit confusing all the different steps here either it's a single long press click it twice but again to recap a single press will turn off just press and hold traction control to turn traction control off and the stability control in track mode if you press it twice quickly it will bring up the performance traction management window now within t In your window you will have five different settings available to you and basically you can cycle through them using the mode selector as if you were scrolling through track sport mode as you normally would and basically within these different

options

they are pretty self explanatory but ESC on will obviously represent electronic throttle control stability so the first one will be wet with ESC on so obviously for dry wet track conditions with ESC on such dry track conditions it will limit or interfere less but still give you have some interference from electronic stability control so you've got a sporty one that's going to be for you, you know your average driver, intermediate driver who wants less interference, more of a sporty drive, but still has some interference from stability control, things get out of hand, then you've got Sport 2 which will disable stability control or Race, which also d The stability control will be activated.
The fully unrestricted modes ore will be more of an experience similar to what you would have if the garbage control and stability control were turned off completely, but it is accessible through this performance traction management system and will give you access to basically what you know again. more refinement more customization taking advantage of these software or these programs to help you rather than interview or make your driving more difficult so I think this is definitely the recommended way especially if you have a magnetic rat in your car to use these menus when you are in the track and get the most out of the software without interfering or bothering you when you are trying to have fun with the car now if you don't have mag ride or even if you don't need to try to access performance traction management in sport mode you can access what is called competitive driving mode and this is basically a similar performance traction management mode which would have fewer customization

options

but is accessed in a very similar way and is a bit confusing as to how your car is equipped again your options will be different if you have a magnetic bar or not but if you don't have a magnetic trip you should be able to access this in sport or track if you have mag ride control it should be in sport only but you will access it the same way by double pressing the traction control button to bring up competitive driving mode now a competitive driving mode is great because it does It still gives you back some of the benefits of stability control software it also gives you access to launch control so if you're going to go to the drag strip you know that's very important be careful , bring your mode selector to sport, double click. the traction control button and it's going to start your competitive riding mode you now have access to launch control know competitive riding mode here is a good alternative for those of you who don't have a mag ride or are looking similar to performance traction management where the system is a bit more custom gives you some assistance when you need it but not as much interference as if it were fully on so again these modes can be really helpful and i and i believe that this is a much better route or approach if you're going to be taking your car to the track, whether it's a race track or a road course, to take advantage of those software to help you increase your times better your launches instead of just turning them all off It's fun to talk about having unrestricted access to the full power of the car, but I think it's best to investigate these modes, but let me know what you think about these modes you know I think this is really interesting and it's kind of complex I guess you could say you know with so many options and so many different modes available just to recap again you have one press to turn off just the control of traction, you have to press and hold to turn stability control and traction control off.
You have a double-click or quick double-tap to access competitive driving mode or performance traction management, depending on whether you're in sport or track mode and whether or not your car is mag-equipped. drive or not again many variables there. I would recommend that you check your owner's manual if you're trying to use these modes, but I want to give you an overview of them, make sure you know that they're there to get the most out of your car, but within all of these modes, I think there's So many different benefits and advantages for those of us planning to take the car to the track.
I know for myself I don't plan on using any of these modes or especially turning off the assistive software on public roads. More so, I look forward to using them if I go to the driving school they know is offered to new Corvette owners. The AC r but to be used at the appropriate time and make sure you understand the car's potential and capabilities, let me know what you think. I look forward to hearing your feedback on this video. I have done something similar to this in the past. for Corvette c7 because it's a very similar setup obviously wanted a quick update for all the new Corvette c8 owners and new Corvette enthusiasts I've joined this ecosystem since the c8 has garnered a lot of new attention but I hope you've found the video is helpful and get the most out of your car with it again make sure to be careful and only take advantage of these modes on one track but i look forward to talking to you guys in the comments below and appreciate you watching and all the feedback.
We'll talk to you next time you have a good day.
