How To Super Flush your Cooling System in One Easy Step - Operation Cheap Jeep

Jun 07, 2021
Well, when I went to Wheeling the other day two things happened: the four wheel drive shifter linkage broke and this sucker overheated like crazy when you went up a hill or did something aggressive, so the first thing I I want to do is I'm going to pour the liquid, a lot of people have been asking me for that video anyway, so maybe you'll learn something there. I also want to throw it away because I had to put a ton of water in there and the water was full. chicken, it's a long story, but yeah, so there's chicken water in there, look at that chicken water, uh, foreign chicken wire antifreeze, so if you don't know, chicken water antifreeze is bad for you and the environment, so you'll want to try to catch as much. of this stuff as possible until it starts to come out clear when we're doing the

flush

ing, so anything that's green, grab it and recycle it or whatever they do with that stuff and don't let

your

dog drink it, it tastes like Kool-Aid.

It's really sweet, I know from experience, so to make the radiator drain faster, you can take out that petcock and it will come out of this big hole instead of this little one, so there are four different places the coolant can go. There's the radiator, there's the engine block, there's the tank, and then there's the heater core. Now the heater core is inside and that's what the air goes through to warm

your

vehicle in the winter when you turn on the heater, so we need to clean those four components. I've already done the radiator a little bit and then we'll do this next here so that the tank connects right here.

I'm going to unclip it and put it down to make sure it's I'm going to get in the bucket down there and then I'm going to empty the tank. I'm going to clean the radiator again. I'll make sure it's working fine. Strange. Disgusting. Okay, so the radiator has been drained. The tank has been emptied. There are two things. I left the engine block and heater core so it's very difficult to get to the thermostat there. Sometimes you can take out the thermostat and

flush

it through one of the radiator hoses. The problem is if you remove the upper radiator hose from any discharge. what you have to do is go through the thermostat which is closed right now because it's cold so what I'm going to do is remove the lines here that go to the heater core.

I'll clean the heater core this way and the engine this way and you can see on the other side here is the other line to the heater core right here the lines to the heater core bypass the thermostat because you want heat all the time, so we don't have to worry about the thermostat being closed for that there we go great so now that we have it loose we can flush the heater core and normally the heater core runs to the water pump and when you flush the heater core you want to wash it inside out because if there's any debris that's stuck in there it should push it back out the way it came instead of forcing it further in.

Now the last thing to wash is going to be the engine block and in my opinion the best way to do this is to take Remove the lower radiator hose so it's there and you can remove it from the water pump or the radiator. I think the radiator will be easier for me, so since the thermostat is still in the vehicle, we can't clean it. the upper radiator hose, so what I'm going to do is use this hose here that we disconnected for the heater core on this end. I'm going to go to the opposite end to wash the engine block so the water runs perfectly clear. you know it's fully developed, there is no antifreeze left in the

system

and we are ready to move on guys, now the entire

system

is flushed, there is no antifreeze left, all the mud, dirt and debris is developed now.
I must mention it. There are other ways to do this instead of opening everything. You can just drain the radiator, pour distilled water in there and then run it and then drain the radiator again. There is another method on YouTube that does this, but basically what you're doing is just diluting. everything and then I try to drain it all through the radiator, but it doesn't really clean the entire system, which is why I like to do it this way, make sure all that sludge is out of each component. Now there is one thing left to do. when we fill this back up with a 50 50 antifreeze mix we want to make sure it's a 50 50 mix and right now we still have a lot of water in the system so what I like to do is blow it out with air and get as much of it out. possible water so that everything remains open.
I'm just going to shoot air in here for the heater core. I'm going to shoot air here for the engine block and here for the radiator and here for the tank. and that should expel most or all of the water. Look, here's a quick little tip if you've noticed that I've been doing all this downhill and off the camber towards the petcock and it's not a necessity but it just makes everything easier so all the water and stuff Things will want to drain out the petcock and down towards the front of the engine. Now I'm going to put everything back in, including this hose here.
I'm going to put this hose back on the radiator. I'm going to leave this one open for now. You have to be very careful right now because your entire system is full of air and it's very

easy

for air to get trapped in the system, so what we want to do is fill the radiator. engine block with coolant fill the radiator fill the reservoir and try to leave some of these things open so it can get as much air out as possible, then we'll run it and let it circulate. Turn on the heater. The core turns on the heating inside your vehicle so that fluid gets in there and no air gets trapped.
We can also help by putting coolant in this tube here that goes to the heater core, so everywhere there is air. you want to try to fill it with coolant and that will help get all the air out of your system faster and make sure you put the petcock back on the radiator before you start so I like to use the 50 concentrate 50 mix saves time but It's actually a waste of money because you're paying for water, so I'm going to use a gallon of this. I know it will take more than two gallons, so I'm not going to premix it.
Normally I would premix it, but it's going to take more than two gallons and then I'll put in distilled water as the other half, so first let's get into the engine block here and the reason why you want to use distilled water. The water is because it is pure water, it has no calcium or added ingredients that can solidify and ruin your system. I can start to see it filling up in the radiator here, so that's okay, so now I'm going to go ahead and pre-mix the rest. I have an empty gallon here, a full gallon here, and a full gallon here.
I'm just going to put half the water in here, half the antifreeze and then pour the rest of the water in here. I'll just make sure. to mark it as mixed so you don't forget okay so I went ahead and put the radiator cap back on so it doesn't come off from there and I went ahead and took the other side of the heater core off because otherwise I won't want to fill it up because it's pressurized with air once it starts spilling in there, so I'll stop the flow here and reconnect it and for the reservoir I'll go ahead and fill it up to the full mark.
It will be full and there should be very little air in the system, but what I want to do is remove the radiator cap, start the vehicle and see if the water pump sucks any of that up, if it does I will add more fluid. I also want to put the radiator cap back on, do a test drive, get it up to operating temperature, come back, let it cool and then check it again just to make sure that if there is air in the system it will suck it out to replace that air . and you will need to add more coolant now.
I should also mention that you never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Make sure it is cool to the touch. If you take it off when it's hot it will spit out and burn the Shit foreigner okay I tried it for about 30 minutes the temp stayed great at 210 I let it cool so now it's nice and cool and I'm just going to open it up to see. If I need to add more fluid, it looks good here in the radiator, although in the reservoir you can see that the level has gone down a little bit, so I'm going to top that off and then we'll be done.
