The first thing you should do when you are preparing to

paint

baseboard

s is to clean them. I just use warm water and then once it's dry you can start filling the nail holes. I use this dry putty stuff it turns pink and then when it dries it will turn white so I just put a little bit in the nail holes and then also where the miter is for the quarter round and then when it's dry in about 15 to 20 minutes, it will turn white and then you can take a very fine bit. sandpaper and sand until smooth just fill the miter crack so this molding has been here for a while and has never, ever, ever been filled or

paint

ed nice and white and added the quarter turn after the putty has turned white, then you want to take some sandpaper, just some light grit sandpaper, this one is 180 grit and just lightly sand the rough areas of the Spackle of the Spackle , smooth that out, smooth out where the nail holes were, if there are other spots on the molding that you can just smooth out. those areas too sometimes there are just a few rough areas and after you smooth them out just take a damp rag again and wipe the dust off so after the molding is nice and dry what you want to do is use a white paint that can be paint.

It comes to the English side here, so it's a bright white paintable shell and I like to just fill in this little crack that occurs when the quarter round is placed against the socket, so it just eliminates that crack, so what want? What you need to do is just take a small bead and run it along the socket and then just take your finger and smooth it out. Now you'll want to do it up to the top where it is as well. the wall if you're going to paint the wall too, same thing just to get rid of the little G, the little space between the

baseboard

and the wall so it looks nice, nice and clean, smooth it out with your finger and then you want it to dry, like this which you'll probably want to leave it for a couple of hours before you go and prime it now that the cocking is nice and hard, nice and dry, you want to apply a little bit of primer which I like.

Now using a smaller brush is sometimes a little easier to apply the right amount of paint and just for the edges, now what I will always do is paint the baseboard first before the wall. It's a lot easier to paint the wall afterwards, so you just put a decent amount of paint on your brush and then just like the primer, you just apply it nice and even nice and smooth, you don't want to put it on. too much because you'll end up getting some spots of paint, just nice, even with the brush strokes and don't worry about it getting on the wall because when you do the wall color, you'll be able to wipe it off, it's very important to make sure you have enough paint on the brush, but definitely not too much.
I usually talk about it because there's nothing worse than coming back and seeing a bunch of smeared paint now if you don't paint much. You may want to put something down to protect the floor. Might make it a little easier. I can just run my brush along the underside of the stone without leaving anything on the floor, but that takes a lot of practice once you have the If the first coat is applied, you'll want to let it dry for a few hours. I think they recommend 6-8 hours before applying the second coat. I know I put the second coat on maybe 3 or 4 hours later and never had any problems.
I think they just want to make sure you don't put it on too soon so once that's done I just like to brush it over to help remove any clog marks it gives you a nice smooth finish okay so we come on. which for a few hours then we'll put the second coat back on, well I went ahead and put the second coat on the baseboards, so now after weighing in for several hours, I'm going to start on the trim now. I use this frog tape, the yellow one is for delicate finishing work, there is also the green tape, but I prefer to use this one, it keeps the paint from bleeding through, it's quite expensive, it depends on where you live, it's about $10 here. a roll, what you want to do is just place it a little bit past the top of the baseboard and then make sure you're right in that crease where the wall meets the top of the baseboard and follow along a little bit. little by little and cut a little bit at the end here and then just with your thumb guide it into that crease to get a nice straight line just follow these PR principles for the rest of the room and just take your finger to make sure it's nice and tight, if it's not and sticks out in some places then the paint will leak.
I am now using another SEO product for painting. It has a matte finish, so it is not shiny. It's pretty flat. It's nice. finish, so again I like to use smaller brushes for the edges, so if you use a heavier brush sometimes you can end up putting on too much paint, apply as much paint and just go over it along the wall with even, light strokes . I removed the paint and then once that's done, I like to remove the tape right away since I'm trying to finish all of this here today. I don't want to pull too fast.
The paint must be good and dry. I've given it quite a bit of time, but just to keep the paint from peeling off the baseboard, I'm going to go slow and voila, you've got a nice straight line and then for this part, I'm going to apply the paint. the wall, so for rolling application get a good roller cage and then a good roller sleeve, you want at least 10mm, that's a good thickness to put a nice consistent coat on. Sorry for the squeaks I use. I paint so often that, um, I go. through quite a few rollers in a year and they start to squeak a little bit when you wash them, so there you go, I'll let it dry for maybe an hour, an hour and a half, and then I'll show you. how to put on the second coat just so it's nice and finished as you can see it's nice and dry now and what I normally do for the last coat because you really need to put on two good coats for good coverage.
I can slightly see a little bit through the gray here, uh, so there's no need to re-tape the edge because you've got a nice line there, you don't have to go all the way to the bottom, but I get as close as I can. . you can follow that as close as you can, you don't want to go over the straight line, but it gives you something you can follow, getting as close as possible, smooth that out now that it ends well, so I'll do it. just take my roller and give it one more coat as you can see the second coat is almost completely dry and we have a clean straight line along the baseboard so yeah this is how to paint the baseboard look for more videos on this channel.
