I like to use these little blue sponges with the curve. These things are amazing because I can get right into my corners without having to scratch. I've seen a lot of these things and they are square on both ends. If you put them here like this and then drag them, I'll do them. shows you what happens, you end up with a line on the ceiling, okay, that's not something you want to have there, so buy one of these life angles and then you can hit that corner and make it look pretty. The only other secret you need is to make sure all the edges are smoothed, it's like they're really smoothed to a point where I guess it's a misty cloud.

Okay, there is no definitive line in the mud from your drywall to your drywall. Once you've accomplished that, you're ready to go. The only other thing is to take the 360 of him and Sander places it on the joints and goes in the opposite direction that he put the cup on just to change the texture of the mud. This is very important because paper is very soft, so mud is not always as soft as he thinks. It is and by the way, it's that pretty and easy, you're going to put a little bit of sanding on it, change the texture of the mud and now it's ready to be painted when you're priming.
I love this kit, I'm sure good luck Paul and my handle and just so you know, if you're interested in the tools I'm using, we have a link in the description, funnily enough it's for Amazon, okay, we put together a special page with all the products and tools that I like to use. In case you like to see something that looks familiar when you're priming drywall, you want to make sure you're not using too much pressure, but you're using pressure, okay, you're pushing this paint into the drywall, don't use it. so much pressure that your wrists pop the screws and make huge lines of paint and don't roll directly into that corner because they will end up marking your paint on the corresponding wall.
Well, it ends for the soft touch. roll and you will have no lines, the other secret is to Prime in the same direction you will want to paint with your finished painting. Remember that when we paint ceilings we can do two coats, so the second coat you want. paint in the same direction as your second coat and that will be determined by a couple of different things generally when I'm painting a ceiling if I have a south facing window then I want to make sure the sun is coming in through a window in which I am finishing the painting in the same direction as the sun, so if there are small lines or ridges, even pass the microscopic level.
The sun porn through the ceiling will highlight it with a shot, so if the sun is in your window, paint towards the sun and if not go towards the longest wall in the room, that is a great way to do it. Start now. The only other thing you need to know about priming is to make sure you let this dry for a couple of hours before you start. When doing any touch-up work, the surface may be dry, but if you put a muddy knife up there and start scraping and try to do the touch-up on your main check, well, it's still wet, you'll make it.
There is a big mess on your ceiling and we don't want that to happen so now we are all set and we have to figure it out, let's go ahead and talk about how to do a priming check and make sure your ceiling is ready to be painted before paint, so once we're done with the primer, we want to start doing the primer check as soon as it's dry for about two hours and that's as simple as taking some mud. and a reflector and go over the entire surface and check for imperfections, now you will find them everywhere.
Sanding is not the art of making everything smooth, it is the art of getting rid of all the ridges and blending the joints into the drywall. paper, so the reason we do a main check before painting a ceiling is this and this holds true whether it's new construction or if you're painting a ceiling in an existing space, you always want to stop by and check things and the main role. check does two things for you: A, it fixes all your mistakes and B, it fixes all the mistakes that no one else bothered to fix, okay, don't assume that because your roof looks pretty good, everything is okay because this is is atrocious so I'm just going to use a standard trouble light that usually lights up like a 100 watt bulb with a 25 foot cord and that will show me all my mistakes so now you can see all the little holes and nicks and scratches.
They're all smooth, they've all been sanded, so now we're just trying to take our compound and slide over here and this is just the result. Bulkheads are really brutal, because you're taping an outside corner, you're taping an inside corner. Typically this area here will have either a mix or an insufficient amount of mud, that's just the way it is. All children are very normal. That way, you can use regular mud when you're doing your touch-ups or you can use a compound with a hardener. I'm going to suggest that using the hardener will save you from having to apply primer afterwards, but today I'm using regular mud because I find that a lot of people don't.
Do you know where to find hardener or you can't. to get it when it says where they live so we have a company called CGC and they make a 45 minute mud and that mud allows me to do all this and then not have to prime if you want to see that process it's in our other painting video that maybe already Have you seen there we go, so that's it, we just fix it, give it an hour or two to dry and here's the deal, if I can't see it in this light, it doesn't matter what time The day is how much lighting you have, what time of year is it, you know, in the fall, sometimes, in the winter, before the hours, there's very strange little light, this covers every imperfection that you'll find, so that when you paint. your roof you know is going to be perfect and you won't be disappointed two, three weeks or three months from now, there's a certain time of day when you're sitting there and you look up and say, oh my gosh, what an ugly roof that happens. everyone so don't be fooled especially when buying a new house all the ceilings look great because they use a really boring matte white paint and they always guide you to a time of day when you can't tell how bad . the paint job is, but this will solve all your problems.
Now let's move on to the painting, so we're about to jump into the painting, but I want to show you this real quick. This is my main touch up area and I need to give it a quick little scrape here, let's drop the mic, we're done, now my spots need to be primed because I use normal mud instead of using a normal primer and I have to wait 20 minutes, half an hour. I'm going to use this. because this fool here boom was made in three minutes ready to go, an excellent product, I recommend using it all the time.
I've been using this stuff since I was old enough to use spray paint so when I do a new roof I'm going to give you an industry secret here and that's this paint right here it doesn't look like much it's not very sexual else time, but the reality is that it is a ceiling paint, it is incredibly flat, it has no acrylic additive, which is what you see in the paint that gives it. for shine and shine, so without the acrylic additive in this what you get is a perfectly blended painted surface where you don't see any lines and it also gives you the ability, if you mix it correctly, to do touch ups later.
It dates and is almost invisible, so when you buy this, have it shaken at the paint store, take it home and use it right away. If you let it sit for a couple of days all the additives will start to separate and then you have inconsistencies with your finished product and you won't be able to do any touch ups now 1105 everyone has to pick up one of these what I'm doing is just putting it on my tray. Usually a regular roller and I know there are roller systems that are much faster, but we are showing homeowners how to renovate their homes so there are a lot of painting contractors.
I have different systems that are a little faster, but the equipment takes a while to set up and clean and you can only use it when you are painting a lot of things. This platform here is a traditional 15 millimeter hair roller. I'm going to call that half inch with a tray liner a regular tray 3 inch brush and you can paint every room in your house okay the only difference is you have to wash again. Today I'm using a long extension pole and generally you don't need to have a long pole to paint the ceiling, I mean.
I have a nice little two to four foot pole and that would work fine, but what this pole does allows me to paint my ceiling, they keep my hands pretty low, so when I'm painting a ceiling my hands are off. above my heart and that's really key to not strain yourself, it's going to be a long day painting a basement and if I'm here like this my arms are going to get fatigued but it's going to make my heart work too hard so I just take it easy and keep my hands real low and I can paint my ceiling with these and I'm not forcing with a stick okay so of course we have to carry it in this situation these windows in this area are facing. north so we're not going to get direct sunlight around here so first we're going to paint nice because when you paint a very long wall it's easier to keep the paint wet on a short wall so for my second coat I want to make my life more easy and I keep the distance short.
If I draw a little and overlap the first layer, it won't look as bad as if it were the second, so all I do is extend my stick and get comfortable. there we go right to the corner and we ran back, here we go, so basically my process is this: I roll the long wall and then I'll come and cut and then I'll give it an hour and a half run. quicksand with my 360 sander and then they will cut and then they will roll, do it in reverse order. When you apply the first coat you will find that you don't have much cutting to do after rolling so it's good to just finish rolling and let the paint start to dry because when I stand up I want the paint to be nice and dry before I put in a sander there and I'm not saying directly in the cracks, so if I cut after, I roll for the first one. layer and then wait about an hour.
I can cut the ceiling and when I finish cutting the ceiling it's been almost an hour and a half since I painted the ceiling so I'm ready to sand it real quick and then roll so the goal here is to paint long even strokes okay, because the more you roll it, the more you can keep the edges wet, the edge of the paint in the front here, this is the line that you want to keep wet all the time, so you want to paint one half and then switch to the other half now Because the paint doesn't have acrylic, it actually helps make painting the entire thing easier.room without drying out the lines, it's fine if you like a brighter color. surface you have to be very careful and very fast, but I like this because it is not a very quick process, you do a lot of work in a short period of time with very little effort and then at the end of the day, even if you are making a small mistake .
This looks so good that it will hide everything anyway. What I'm going to point out is the direction of the cage. You'll see the rod is here on the front edge, that's because there's more pressure here than at the back and I want to have the pressure up at the front. No, when you're painting the ceiling finish coat, you're not using a lot of pressure, but it still helps eliminate lines if you have it facing the right direction, so spread it out and then finish it like that, boom. Now you can imagine how much effort it would take to make this ceiling if you hold on to that paint roller and stand on a ladder up, down and up and paint in all directions, this makes all this work relatively quick and really painless.
So this is why I'm using a single gallon of paint from my ceiling and I'm doing a whole basement here, so I could have bought a five gallon bucket, but this is what happens when you open the five gallon bucket. gallons. and you start pouring it in when you finish all the projects, there's so much air going into that bucket that now the paint is starting to dry and has little crumbs and dirt on it, so what I like to use is a gallon at a time. I'll pour three quarts into my paint tray use the rest as my cutting stick and now it's easy to run in and just touch up this make sure everything is covered don't be lazy with this and just do it in The second coat will look and you'll see a dark line around the roof so make sure you cut and then it'll be a good time to go get some coffee and then we'll cut again and then we'll roll up the short side. then the roofs did one last little thing.
If you have a hatch in the ceiling for the outside faucet shut-off valve, be sure to paint it. In many cases, it is plastic and looks great today, but in a couple of years. The UV light bouncing around outside and coming in through the windows hits this and it will end up turning yellow, so give it a good paint job, hit all four sides, roll it up and lay it on the ground to dry. We're back from the coffee break, which turned into lunch, you know, this happens when we meet, listen, here's the rest of the system, we've already completed our first layer and like I said, if you don't take a full lunch break, then you can move much faster, but do the same. cut first for second, okay, so that's as simple as wetting the brush and then drying it after you're done with the cut.
I'm going to grab my sander, give it a quick scrape and then another coat, okay? here's my 360 radius sander, um, let's get rid of the old sheet that's covered and the drywall dust before we say on the paint that you want to have a nice clean sheet. This is a 220 for everyone asking me what I'm using, self-adhesive, okay? This is brilliant and like I said, don't go straight into the corners. Actually what we're doing here is we're not trying to scrape it off to get the paint to adhere or anything like that, we're going over the general surface to make sure that if there are little hairs or little bits of dirt, you can't see everything in all types of light, so it's better to assume that something needs sanding up here than to assume that everything is perfect up here.
They're just a quick look at general good practices in the area, so I thought what a little nugget I had to get rid of, that's awesome, okay. I agree the first time I painted a ceiling, OMG I was young and stupid and I didn't do it. I don't know the right way to do it so I was using a short stick like this yeah how much paint was there in a big commercial space and you've been painting for eight hours straight like that where the pigs got foam how much do I think it must be ? I was about twenty-two, young and dumb, and I came home and woke up the next morning.
I couldn't move my head. That's it, Mike. I'll see that my body basically said, "Okay, you're done for the day." I need another day to recover from whatever stupidity was involved last night, crazy, okay, yeah, let's watch Bump Bump Bump it's like CSI, look at each one of these little dots, it's a piece that was on the ceiling and that would have cast a shadow now they're not going to be a problem, okay, now we're going to go in the opposite direction, the same process makes the cage point in the direction you're going, don't roll into the corner, just press gently now that the roof is all sealed with the primer in the first coat, this paint will set much better on the surface and you will find that the front edge will stay wet much longer.
Backtrack a bit now that I mention it. you're rolling this part of the ceiling here, stretch the paint and then back up over the joint, put half of the joint in the middle of your roller right there and then slowly work your way over there, we're constantly leaving that pressure. the front of your roller so that lines do not form on the roof behind. I'm going to do this about 25 more times and we often say yes, well that sums up all the information I have on how to paint a ceiling, remember to try to keep your hands down, take your time, look at the markings and if you have any questions about the process, tools or materials, have some in the comments section below, of course you know I'm in that comments section every day. day answering questions happy to help and if you want to know where to get all the stuff we are using we have a link in our video description to go to Amazon if you want to help support our channel by going to Amazon to make your purchases that would be appreciated .
Every little bit helps, most importantly, and Rosanna is there to help them get the tools they need without having to search for them, that's fine and if they want to sit and watch me paint the rest of the ceiling. because you find it somehow relaxing and comforting, then you move on.
