your own

tall

planters out of trash cans, but times are changing and finding

I'm not going to use the lids obviously, but these are pretty nice trash cans, huh? and they have these top pieces that I think we're really going to make it more like a flower pot and less like a trash can and I just wanted to show you the difference, see how tall this one is compared to the other two and as I was doing my flower pots, the first thing I did was drill a little. holes in the bottom of each of the trash cans because these will be drainage holes for water to escape and my drill is dying.

My drill is completely dying. I need to replace the battery and when you're drilling the holes, you want to go. Slow, don't press too hard depending on the type of trash can you have because it can actually break or crack the bottom of the pot aka trash can, and I know it looks like slow motion but it's not, it's just that the My drill battery is dying. and it's up to you how many holes you want to make in the bottom for drainage. Now the fun part now we're going to paint, so I'm using chalk paint.

This is traditional brand chalk paint that I purchased on Amazon. It comes in a lot of different colors as you can see and then I just painted the trash cans now if you want you can spray paint them you can use some kind of faux painting technique it's up to you I just wanted mine to be basically white but I wanted to have some lines so I just gave it one coat of paint and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the top ring but I decided to paint it and I think it turned out pretty good and I'm really happy with this paint job now, this Traditional brand chalk paint is like a primer, it's the paint, it's all in one and you can even use it outside, that's where my planters will live, so this paint will last outside.
I have used it before. on a couple other projects and I've been really happy with it, this is like my go-to paint for any kind of chalk paint project I want to do, these are the pots that are almost finished, I was super excited, there are some little rings round so you can see some of the variations in the paint that I chose I like and that works for me in wala look how cool it looks and I wanted to show you the size difference so you can see the new tall pots I have compared to the others. two and I didn't want to use soil because it would make it too heavy if I filled everything with soil.
I opted for pineapples because we have a lot of pineapples where I live, so I just went and picked them up and then filled them up. The trash can was probably half full with the pinecones and then I reused whatever soil I had or dust from the other pots just to give my plant a good base. Now, if you wanted, you could plant directly into it. this but I decided not to do what I'll show you in a minute by filling the other pot with pine cones and then adding some soil that I already had and then I decided to paint the other pots that I made so they all match and I already had some chalk paint , so I went ahead and painted them with another color chalk paint I had, this one is more grey, the other one is more creamy white and these are the pots ready to be filled with your new paint jobs, these are the flowers that I bought to fill the pots and then there's the potting soil and a few other things and that's my son, Kyle and the little pots.
I decided that I am going to plant plants directly. inside so I used potting soil or most pots and they are small enough that they are not very heavy with all that soil and the medium pots I did the same and then just played around to find out Find out how tall we needed that the earth was in each of the planners for the plants. This is when it's good to have help. I think we got the medium sized one almost perfect and these are the pots, all full and beautiful and on my forehead. porch and they just make a really cool statement and I'm really happy with how they turned out yeah tall planters look how

easy

it was and now thanks to the videos that I made I actually made six of these planters.
The tall ones are probably my favorite, the really tall ones, but they turned out exactly how I wanted and I'm so happy to have these pots in front of my house. Now that my green thumb isn't the best, some of the plants are real. and some of them not so much, and although the new updated version of my trash can planters is a little more expensive, around $30 per trash can, it's still more affordable to make your own tall planters instead of going out and buying them because I was able to make this pair of planters for about $60.
I already had the paint, so I didn't factor that cost into account, but if I went out and bought just a regular planter, a tall one, even a cheap one, that's that tall, it will cost you everywhere. $200 so I went the DIY route and made them myself and I think probably my favorite part of this whole process is that you can customize these planters and make them however you want so you can be sure that my paint job may not be what that you like, but that doesn't mean you can't go out and make yours exactly how you want, personalized and customized to your tastes.
