More Interesting Facts About,

how to make paper flowers in cricut design space all 10 flowers...

I actually have all 10 codes in my blog post so you don't have to search or search for them, but there is another way, I think it's simpler than that, and if you go to images, click on cartridges, search for flowers and locate the florist cartridge, which is included for free in access to Cricut at the time of this video, then click on view all flowers now you can see everything that is in that cartridge and then you can click on each of the rolled flowers individual ones that we're going to make in this video and there's 10 of them and they're all on this cartridge and again, this cartridge is included for free and you have access to Cricut, so we just go ahead and add the 10 to our canvas and there they are now when they come by default.

They're not very big, they're about three inches and that will result in a pretty small flower, as you'll see later in this video, so that's a more typical size, the size that I'm actually going to use. my paper flowers and vases project, which I'll talk about in my next video after this one, I'm starting with an 8 inch flower, so if you want to resize all of these flowers, what I recommend you do is select all of them flowers. just like I'm doing here, go to the alignment menu and choose the center, now they're all on top of each other and then we can resize right now here at the top to 8 inches wide and all the flowers will resize . to 8 inches and this is an excellent sigh for making paper flowers.

I recommend it and this is what I cut mine out for my paper flowers in a vase canvas project and of course you can change the colors and all that if you'd like but really what matters is what piece of paper it is on short, so I'm going to go ahead and click and do that, and here are all of our flowers, we can change them to eight and a half by eleven. paper because eight 8-inch flowers fit on eight-and-a-half by 11-inch paper under the materials. I'm going to choose a medium cardstock and I'm going to go ahead and put my pressure on more now let's talk about what type of cardstock because this question comes up quite a bit and really this is step two of our process to find the best cardstock for the best paper for our project. , so here I have a stack of papers and I'm going to go through this deck and let it point out the things that work best and the things you want to avoid.
Let's start with the things we should avoid first. Well, I bought this paper from Joanne. It's a white core paper, which means the inside is actually white and is usually labeled, but not. always, but you can spot it because when you turn it over and look at the side, you'll see that the paper is not as vibrant on the edge as it is, you know which is the actual paper that you don't want to use white. The white core won't look as good here there is a twelve by twelve paper mascot that you can see on the side, it's lighter than the paper itself so even though this one doesn't say it's a white core on the front, it still it is not.
This is going to work for us now, here's some shiny paper. Glitter is pretty, but it's usually only on one side and won't work well for us either, so these three types of paper should be avoided if you can, take what you want. I want to look for our papers that are the same color throughout, so this paper I bought at jo-ann's is the same color inside and out and you can tell it's really vibrant when you look at it. On the side, this paper here is from Michaels, it's also nice and vibrant on the side, and it's also a good paper to use.
Now I really like this glitter paper because it has a lovely shine that is ideal for paper flowers. makes it look maybe a little more realistic, not as flat, however it is still a white core paper, but because it is so light and pastel it will work well. Our next step is to cut out the flowers on our Cricut, so I have my mat loaded here with an 8 and a half inch sheet of cardstock. I'm going to go ahead and load this. You just want to use your normal fine point blade to cut cardstock and one of the amazing things about these Cricut paper flowers is how simple and quick they are to cut, there isn't a lot of fine detail and they will cut out pretty quickly which is good because Today we are going to cut many flowers so we can show you how each one of them works. go together, but one thing I want to show you is the mat, so the mint that I used here was on a new, nice, super sticky mat that I normally really like, but here you can see how hard it is to remove the paper and actually , breaks.
So a new super sticky mat is not a good idea, so I went back and used an older mat that wasn't as sticky, but sticky enough that I could cut through my cardstock and haven't slipped because here's the thing. It's pretty cool, you don't need a super sticky mat for this, so you'll see what a big difference it will make when you remove the cardstock from this mat. Okay, there's our cut flower and I can remove it very easily. cardstock from the mat because it's not as sticky and it comes off right away and it's a lot easier and faster because you don't have to sit there and pry it up a little bit and worry about it breaking and all that. use a less sticky mat when you cut these paper flowers and you will be much happier so let's put these flowers together so our next step is to roll our paper flowers.
There are three different tools you can use for this. the first is the Cricut quilling tool which looks like this and has a little slot in the little metal tip here. The second is my homemade quilling tool. I have a complete tutorial on how to use it. It's just a dowel and some electrical tape. There is also a slit at the end for this one and the third is a simple pair of pliers. These are reverse action tweezers, which makes it a little easier, but you know people use all kinds of tweezers for this, so I'll show you. how it works to use these three tools and you can decide which one works best for you, so let's start with our first flower.
I have the 10 cricket flowers here, you want to put them in this orientation as you start just like I show you here and then you place the end of the flower in the slot at the end of your cricket quilling tool that slides right in there and then you start to roll it. I like to roll it towards me just like I'm doing it right here and you just hold the paper in one hand while you roll the tool with the other and if it's your first time, go slow, be patient, you may have to restart a couple of times.
Sometimes, okay, this is definitely some kind of muscle memory. I've been rolling paper flowers for a long time, so I'm pretty used to it now. The further you go the harder it gets so you're going to have to be very patient as you roll these flowers because you're going to want to slide down on the tip and that's going to happen and it's normal to know that what you want to avoid is it coming off. accidentally get out of the slot of the tool or have it unravel while you're working on that kind of thing, so you'll notice that I'm holding the cocoon while I roll it because at this point it's getting harder and harder to roll it up, but if I hold it I can keep it in position a little better all the way, at the end of each of these flowers there is a circle that you want to stop when you get to that circle, hold the bud and gently remove the scoring tool. body, you may need to move it a little now, once the flower is out of the scoring tool you need to hold it and allow it to unroll a little, like I'm doing here, not enough to make it look good . towards you and make sure you hold it correctly so you know you can decide how much you want it to be open or closed and at the bottom we need to glue it so first let's experiment with using tacky glue, mainly what I used at first. flowers to make it totally workable and what you're going to want to do is hold up the bud so you can see most of the layers and you want to put the glue on the rolled section, you want to try to put glue on all the edges of the rolled flower and then , when you have enough glue there, fold the circle over it and press and hold everything in position while it dries.
Now the teki glue will take a little while to dry, so you need to hold it. and while you're holding it, you can arrange the petals, so fold them outwards or do whatever you want to make this flower look good, generally speaking, with these flowers you want to unfold the flowers outwards, you know, you really know, you really know how to fold . As much as rolling them outwards to the right, you'll want to experiment to find the look that works best for you and here we go, this is what your flower looks like. Now I'm going to speed up the video while we review the other one. 9 cricket flowers, so for this Daisy I'm going to switch from using the cricket quilling tool to a pair of tweezers.
Now these are reverse action tweezers, so we don't have to squeeze them closed, just put the end of the flower in there. and then you would turn your tweezers towards you and hold the flowers so that they curl up to the end of the tweezers like this and you just want a guide if the flowers there are pretty and you try to keep the base of the flowers rolled up, you know more or less even what best you can, it will get difficult as you go down, so take out the tweezers and if necessary you can open them a little with them.
Daisy, you don't have to open them you can barely hold that cocoon with the rolled part tighter and then you put glue on the ends and then you put that circle down and then you hold it with your fingers while the glue hardens, you can push the petals so that It's more like a real Daisy just like I'm doing here, there we go, that's our Daisy, it's easy and nice. I really like Daisy. Now for our third cricket flour, I'm going to move on to using my homemade quilling tool, so this is just a dowel with a slot on the end and some electrical tape.
What I love about this tool is that the electrical tape acts as a guide for the bottom edge of the paper flowers, so it can make rolling easier for you. flowers, they are less likely to slip off when you get to the end and I want to take a look at your flower and see if it needs to be unrolled a little. In this case, it looks good, so I go ahead and glue it on and it's actually too tight and that's one of the problems with these flowers is that I think it's either too tight or too loose until you get used to how to do them right, so It's okay to like it, you know.
If it seems too tight, it's okay to go ahead and fix it to get it where you want. I'm trying to roll the center a little more right there, but using the tweezers is fine, so here's our fourth flower. I'm going to continue using my homemade quilling tool because I really like it. I really like how it helps the flower not slide off so easily. Yes I goLet's roll this up and we'll get to the bottom and pull out the tool like before and we'll take a look at the button, let it unroll a little bit so it looks more natural and put that glue on the rolled edges.
Remember to try to apply as much glue as you can without it. Be everywhere and hold the flower while it is laid and while trying to unfold the petals to make it look like a natural flower. One of the problems I see with flowers is that people don't roll the petals outwards and it actually looks much better when you can arrange the petals like a real flower. flower because you know, even as buds, the flowers are not completely flat, there are still curves and everything is fine, so with this one I'm going to go ahead and roll it up, but you can see I'm struggling with it a little bit. because it looks best when it's completely not too tight but it's too loose at the bottom.
I'm going to have trouble gluing it, it's just that it's so loose there, I can only glue a little bit and it's the rolled section is bigger than a circle, so this is a problem you might run into as well. This happens. You don't have to throw it away. You do not have to do it. You can go ahead and try it. to stick it like it's here and then roll the center tighter, you know, to make it look nice, but if that doesn't work, another thing you can do is switch from using tacky glue to using hot glue so that the glue hot will allow it to set much quicker and it's thicker so it will cover the rolled edges better and allow you to create your flower quicker and get it into position so let's save this sticky glue and get out our hot glue. gun, okay, so we have the glue gun, now remember, be careful, the glue is very hot and since this is a small project and you have to hold it between your fingers while the glue hardens, you are more likely to burn yourself , OK?
So please. be careful, so I'm going to roll this flower up again to make it look decent, remember that everything can be fixed, really, I almost never throw anything away. I can fix almost anything and so can you, so let's roll it up tight. that we can put glue back on it, here we go, that looks good, now you see that the hot glue is much thicker and we can put it back on there, be careful with your fingers, if it's too hot, it's going to It can be a problem While the glue sets, roll the petals outwards to make it look more natural, voila, we have a finished flower.
Now let's make this red one that looks a little bit like a mom and this one is pretty and easy to roll. It might sound straight edged and yes, and we can keep this bud pretty tight because it has petals that we can push out quite easily, but unroll it just a little bit so it looks natural. You want to hold it as yours while you allow it to uncoil. a little bit, you know, control it with your fingers so it doesn't just go Boop and open all the way up and then you'll see how I'm using this surface here, I'm pressing down in the center so I don't burn my fingers with the hot glue. and that really helps a lot, so let's make our pointy flower, pointy flower, pointy petal and we're going to roll this one up again.
I have found this to be the best way to roll it. when you roll it towards you like this and because it has nice long petals, we don't have to unroll it too much, we can hold it tight and put that glue there and make sure we have all the edges, there we go and use your surface and press it there so you don't burn your fingers and open all the petals if you have difficulty with this remember just practice practice I have been winding flowers for a long time, it's not the first time The flower didn't look very good, it takes some time, so don't be discouraged, keep going trying it now.
This cabbage rose is a little tricky in my opinion because, while it's pretty simple to roll, it's like a lot of paper, so in the end. it becomes unruly and it's also a very wide flower, if you look at the circle there, it's a pretty big circle compared to the other circles which of course are clear that it needs to open up more, so naturally you'll want to do that. Open it larger and you'll find it's a little harder to do because it doesn't necessarily want to open evenly. You'll have some parts that are curled more than others and I saved this one towards the end because it's a little harder to do and you see, I should be struggling with that right now.
It's like this one needs a middle ground between too tight and too loose, but if you can't get it right and right there, you'll want to tighten it too tight so you can at least get glue on the ends. I don't make this flower very often, so I don't have much practice at it, but I want to show it to you. all the mistakes so you can also see what to do when you have a problem and I'll show you I'll go over all of these flowers one more time at the end of the video so you can see how they should be done correctly from the beginning.
It starts so we make the mistakes first and then we get it right because you know it's great when we have a video with perfect flowers or a perfect project, but that doesn't help when you don't know how to fix a mistake or what to do. do when there's a problem and even now you know I've got this one stuck on but it's really really tight it's really too tight so it's certainly not my favorite flower but I got it right so another mom type flower so we rolled this one up. Right at the top, I think they're rolling, it's the easiest part, it's the gluing that I always have trouble with, but again, the more you do, the easier it will actually be to get everything right so we can put that glue on.
Are you in the coiled section and? pushed outwards in the rows and pressed against its surface to avoid touching your fingers and then pressed its petals outwards, there we go, the next flower, which is a rose, is the most complicated and that's why I saved it for last , so you really need to do it. curl the petals before you start rolling them because otherwise it will be very difficult to roll and it won't roll very well either. Many people when they make this flower don't do this and they just don't do it. It looks really nice, it looks really weird, peas, a piece of rolled paper with pieces sticking out of it, not like a rose, but when you first curl the petals like this or do something to wear them down and relax that stiff paper, a huge is formed. difference, so I went through it and rolled each of the petals inwards and now I'm going to roll them up because I rolled them up.
I also curl much more easily now that your petals are still a little stiff and then they may want to stay together. I don't like to clump them together when you are rolling them and if this happens, keep squeezing the bud as you go and it will keep it rolled into one bud, that's my best advice for How do you know how to avoid getting your petals on the wrong side? The advantage of this flower, although it is delicate, is the most beautiful of flowers. If you can master this one, you can have some gorgeous roses, so let's get them. that glue there and press it against our surface and make those petals curl up there and if you want, if you need to fix them because they're all stuck together, this is not the way to do it before the hot glue dries and then press your petals out. like a real flower and there we go, so that's our 10 cricket flowers.
I think they are super fun and amazing so here are the 10 3D cricket paper flowers along with their shape, their final appearance and their code in case you need to place them in projects you already have, this diagram is also available on my blog at jennifermcguireink.com, but it's probably a little too small for home decor or a shadow box, unless it's a very small shadow box. So this is the 3 inch size and the 3 inch size rolls into 3/4 inch and this is just the next size and we're going to go through the whole process so I'm doing it real quick now. because you don't necessarily need to see me, you know, go slowly through this, this is the 4 inch size and the florin size extends up to 1 inch, you'll still want to know, arrange the petals and stuff so they show up.
Well the 5 inch size rolls up to an inch and a quarter and this is a good medium size. I'm still a little small, but you know, it depends on the size of your project or your canvas, this is the 6.-inch cut and the six-inch size rolls into a one and three-quarter inch flower. The next is the 7 inch size. 7 inches rolls into a one and three-quarter inch flower. Here we have our 8 inch size. The 8 inch size rolls into a 2 inch flower now 8 inches is my favorite size because it maximizes the paper size of an eight and a half by 11 sheet of paper and looks great in most home decor applications. home, like on a canvas or a shadow box or as a gift ornament, so 8 inches is a winner and that's what I'm doing with most of my flowers for my next project and that's okay, this is the size 9 inch, the 9 inch size rolls into 2 and a half inch flower, you know, 9 is great, but it doesn't actually fit on an 8 and a half by 11 sheet of paper, so it's a little bit complicated in that sense, but let's keep climbing.
This is a 10 inch cut flower. okay, and this rolls into a two and three quarter inch flower, but I really think that if you're not going to do eight inches and you want bigger, you could also go with the one inch size Levin flower because the size of Levin in inches maximizes your 12 by 12 paper and rolls into a beautiful three inch flower. If you need to make it bigger then you should start looking for giant paper flowers, of which I have plenty of roses so if you want. larger than three inches, so look at my giant paper roses and other things like sunflowers and poinsettias and all that kind of stuff, so here are our sizes and here is the size chart, if you want to use it, check this out.
I also have this on my blog if you want to bookmark it or print it to have it when you need it so there are the 10 sizes of our paper flowers you can see how you can use them in different ways just by changing the size of the flower Now I'm going to use the 10 flowers to create a project, so if you want to experiment with creating flowers of different sizes, go ahead and do it because I have a project for you and I will talk about it in my next video, but just watch a sneak peek in this video, let's go through all the flowers one once again the right way.
I'm going to use the Cricut quilling tool because I think it works best for these flowers. I am the role that I am. What I use here is a glossy paper to give us a nice shine. We will roll them all up and you will notice that as I unroll them I hold them to control them so that they do not open too much. enough so that they look natural and then I hot glue them together and as I press the flower into the mat and as the glue sets I fold the petals and that's how we make all of our flowers.
Let's go over, we're going to do all 10 right now, so here we go, there are 10 paper flowers on shiny cardstock, don't they look very pretty? I have a project in mind for these. They're going to be amazing, I'm going to put them in a vase and show you what it looks like and we'll go over it in another tutorial. Now, if you leave Cricket's paper flowers, I have more flowers for you. I try I try to make my flowers look realistic and I traced each petal carefully from real flowers. I have a peony a rose a carnation a tulip magnolias marigold gardenia cherry blossom Lily and I think there are more - okay, yes, and you are done at Jennifer maker.com and now cut the paper flowers, one of the most important questions that receipt about paper flowers is what is done with them.
I mean, they're pretty and all, but what's their purpose, so there's a lot you can do with them. from making gift cards and ornaments to home decor, but one of my all-time favorite things to do with paper flowers is to make wall decor with things like these two canvases. Here you can create a flat base with vinyl paper or even transparent film and then stick it on. Your flowers on top in pretty arrangements and I'll show you exactly how to do it in my next video. If you have any questions about how to make cricket paper flowers or my paper flowers, leave a comment below or post in my amazing Facebook group at Jennifer maker.com / Cricut crafters and that's all for today remember if you can tell me what you want to do I can show you how to do it until tomorrow
