How to make Floating Tea Cups - Revised tutorial

Hello everyone, welcome to Becky's Candy Crafts and today I'm going to show you a slightly revamped version of the

floating

tea

cups

I made in a previous video. I've changed things up a little bit and this kind of

make

s it work a little easier,

s it stronger and makes it flow and stick a lot better, so what we're going to use to start is this teacup and this saucer and that's a part that I also found that using the tea saucer, which is the next size up from the saucer, works pretty well to help you balance, so in this video we'll also use the T-plate that comes with it and, before that nothing, what we have to do is take the cup and we have to arrange it so that it is suspended like this and it looks like the flowers are going to come out of the cup now to do that you need a fork, okay, so this fork is just a cheap fork , it is quite thin and quite flexible. and you need to bend the fork so that it sits on the plate that way, but at an angle, so you need a little bit of force or maybe pliers or something, just bend the fork up so that it's like that and what we make.

What we are going to do is stick the fork on the small saucer. I used a glue gun in a previous video and it didn't hold at all so I found that gorilla glue works great now gorilla. The glue is a glue that is activated upon contact with water, so we need to put some gorilla glue on one side and then some water on the other side and when it comes into contact after a while, That makes it heal and harden. To start, what you need to do is bend the fork at the bottom of the saucer so that it is flat and we also need to fold this top part because we have the cup like this and this part needs to be folded down so that it sits in the cup, so what I usually do is hold it on the side of the counter and just fold it down, okay, as you can see there, that's folded there before you start gluing it, you have to hold it so you can tidy up. of measuring the angle that you want to give it, okay, so play with it and bend it a little bit and what it will do is it will sit there and we will glue it so that it sits there. down there and I found out that gorilla glue works pretty well so what we need to do to start is glue this bottom part so if you get your gorilla glue and you want to put some on the bottom remember it expands . but since we're going to hide this, it won't matter too much, so take some water, put some water on the other side of the fork, now we have to stick it and we have to stick it to the tea plate so you can take your fork, hold it down so and what I've found quite helpful is get some tape, set it up and hold some tape like that.

Now I've discovered that duct tape works great, but I'm running out of it. use it, use it for the other one that I made and unfortunately I'm running out of it, so hold it down a little bit like this and then you need to put something that has a little bit of pressure on it. So what I did was I took some rice or something heavy from the kitchen and I put it on top like this. Now I'm going to let it start and dry before I do anything else, so once that part is dry. We're going to remove the rice and we're going to glue this top part to this bottom part.

It is actually very easy to paste. This is the tricky part of cupping and sometimes two hands are very helpful for this. And? What we're going to do is make sure the handle is on the front and just hold it so you know where it's going to be and then get some gorilla glue. Sorry, I'm not going to do it, so you can't. Look at it there and put a little gorilla glue in the center so it's about the same size. Have some water. Put a little on the bottom. Make sure your hands are dry very quickly.

I have some duct tape here ready. Put that there. and then this is where you could use a pair of hands because it helps, just hold them down and stick some duct tape on. Now we're going to balance this and I'm going to use the exact same thing to balance this. I used it before when I was at home. I tried all kinds of things. I tried like a clamp and God knows what else and nothing worked, so I propped it up with a loaf of bread, some bread that we had left out. the cupboard and that's what I used to hold it up so it moves around a lot and it's very tricky to do so I found some bread and it was just right to balance it there so find something look around the house and see what what are you doing.

I have to hold it, so I'm going to hold it there, make sure it's flat and when it's done, it'll be done, we can stick it on the bottom and then we're ready to go now if you look a little closer, you can see that the Gorilla glue swells and expands, that won't matter because we are going to cover it and I prefer it to stay stuck and as you can see, it is much stronger than any of the other glue we have tried in the past, so here we go What to do now is start and decorate it.

I'm going to decorate them in slightly different ways just to give you an idea if you want. To make a Christmas version, just change the color of the flowers you use, make them Christmas colors, gold, red and, you know, shiny silver, that kind of thing, you could even put roses in them if you want, but add some kind of decoration Brilliant if you're doing it in a Christmassy way. You could also make something for Halloween. You can buy some small pumpkins, which I thought would be quite cute. Maybe paint them and put some up if you want to make some sort of Halloween display too.

If you have florist's tape, you can wrap it around the fork, which looks pretty good and hides this part here, but what I'm going to do this time is just use a little bit of tape. because I think the tape will be fine and it should work great so I'm going to put some hot glue on because this should hold the tape well and remember we won't see this horrible part at the top so we don't have to worry too much for that and all I'm going to do is just wrap this around the long part of the fork, so we're going to go around and this is just to hide the silver bits. which we really don't want again, we're not going to see much of this, but we'll see some parts of it, so we'll cover it anyway.

I tend to pop a little bit of glue as we go down and then when we get to the bottom we're going to go down as far as we can, we're just going to seal it in a minute with a little bit of the last glue, so I'm just going to stick it there, cut it out and then paste it. the back just to finish it off and then that will be a little bit neater, okay, now we're going to start decorating the saucer and the cup itself. Now you can buy moss, you can buy moss that is in different types of colors and you can buy It's from eBay, let me show you some different colors that I have here.

I have a white color, there's a red, I don't know if you can see on the back, there's a pink and then a little bit of green too. so to hide this part you can put a little bit of moss on it, so what I usually do to get started is just start, put some pieces down and then when I'm happy with it, I'll glue it on. I'm going to do it too. to get a little bit off the top here, covering down so everything matches in place, so I'm going to glue it right now, there we go, so it's all glued together, as you can see, I've gotten pretty far into the cup and that's simply because the glue had expanded and I wanted to hide that part, so now we're going to add some flowers, as you can see, it holds up very well and we don't need any extra weight on this part and that part.

What I found is because we put this larger plate under the bottom and it seems to keep it much flatter and much more proportionate because you have that larger area at the bottom, so that's why I put the plate along the bottom now on As for flowers, you can make all kinds now I'm going to use these flowers, these wild orchid craft flowers for this one in particular, but for the second one I'll show them to you in a second. use some different flowers now look at the color of your

cups

and choose the type of colors you want to use so if you look here you can see the colors that are there and I just pulled out a mix of the flowers that I have in creams in shades ready in roses and that's actually what I'm going to use, okay, here are the flowers that I have, so take a look and this is the setting. where you'll have to play with um, cut and shift, move them around a little bit before gluing them now, these stand out quite well to me, I think they're really pretty in this bag, you get different shades. the darkest ones and you get the lightest ones, so all you need to do with these flowers is that you can buy them, you don't have to use the orchid crafts in the world, you can buy them in many craft stores and they also sell working ones . them and we also do it with the stove and like we've done before, you just cut them and bend the wire part and what we're going to do is glue them inside so it looks like they're falling out of the teacup, okay?

What I'm going to do is play around with the flowers now and see what I think looks good, so I've worked out very roughly how I want them to turn out, but I don't. I don't know about you, but when I make things I always end up putting them in a different order than I thought, so I'm going to start with this deep color, I think it looks really good and what I'm going to do. What I do is I just put a little bit of glue on the end here and stick them on top, start at the top and work my way down.

I think the different types of roses look really good because we would like to retire them like I said before. I want to bring out the colors that are in the cup and make them really stand out, so what we have to do is just put glue on all the flowers and we're going to cascade them all over the place, but like I said, I think it's easier start from the top and then work your way down, get it right. I also have these leaves that also come from wild orchid crafts. They are just a green sheet of paper.

Here what I'm going to do is just to add a little bit more detail, I'm going to put a little bit of glue on the edge of some and I'm just going to place some leaves around the screen as well, so there we go, I think it looks like really quite pretty and quite sweet with The more additional details there are at this point, I'll just give you a couple of other ideas. Wild and Silly Crafts that also sell these. They would look very pretty. You can place them, put them in and display them around you. nice, also some bows, you could get some bows and attach them to the flowers again, they would look very very pretty.

I have some smaller ties and some slightly larger ones, what I'm going to do in this case is use this bead. Now this came from Poundland so it wasn't expensive at all and I'm going to start from the top and I'm going to stick the end of the bead on top here, I'm just going to turn it around so I can, I can go in, so stick it in there and What you can do is just hide it with a flower or something like that. If you can see the glue, it's a little tricky to get it to sit there without burning yourself once it's there.

What we're going to do, I'm just going to turn it over, so what I'm going to do is try to get it under the flower at the top and I'm just going to bring it down so it's nice. to cover it, okay and then maybe finish it, just drop the glue gun just to finish it, let's pick that up in the back now, if you have any other type of gems, maybe you have some Look, you could put a key on it , anything like that would look, they would look great too and to finish off the back, I'm just going to cut the back, put another glue stick, cut the back about to the right.

Length I want it to stop at, I just play with it to get it to land where you want it to land again. It's in a completely different place than where I put it the first time, when I watch these videos I always think, oh no. don't put it there, put it somewhere else, I bet you all think the same too, don't you when you're actually doing it? Sometimes they don't know the right place to put things when they look through a lens. The lens is actually very peculiar, so I'm going to put a little glue on the bottom of the back so you can't see it and that's it, that's it. it's finished.

I think it looks very, very nice. I don't believe it. I want to put something else on it because I think it looks really pretty as is, so it can go on a shelf or a Welsh dresser anywhere in your home. I think they look really nice and they hold up much better. with these plates on the bottom so that's the first one and now I'm just going to show you how to decorate the second one and this one is ready to decorate now so we have the biggest plate on the bottom and a little saucer on there. and zatika on top and all I've done is put some moss around it and we're going to decorate this, we're going to decorate it a little bit different instead of the smaller flowers, we're going to use a bigger bouquet of flowers. so it's just a personal preference if you prefer the smaller flowers or the larger ones and both bouquets come from the range um so I've used this one before this pink one here you've probablyused you've seen me use it in some um videos and I just bought this one which is the cream rose one so what am I?

What I'm going to do is I'm going to take some of the heads off of some of the bouquets and just place them around like We did it before and see what looks good and which ones I want and some of the smaller ones, you know. mix it in with some of the big ones and just decorate it the same way we did before so do it so all the flowers are ready and what I'm going to do now is just give it some shine and shine a little bit. um so I kept my little gem jar and kind of shiny magpie jar and I also have this decorative ribbon.

It's um, this came from homemade bargains, I think, and I just cut out a section and did like um. kind of a continuous glow row, so what I'm going to do is use some of these gems that I've had in my stash for quite a while. I have two of these little flowers there and some hearts that I don't know where I got them from because I've had them, like I say, for quite a while, so what I'm going to do is put a little bit of glue on the back and place them through the design so just add a little bit of sparkle and put one at the bottom of this corner you like a little bit of sparkle and like I say if you're doing one of these designs for Christmas then just change the, just change the flowers and order.

Christmas flower type use um and then you can put some shiny bits on it like this because I think they'll look good with some Christmas flower type as well, so let's take a look, I'll leave that one for a second and then I'll bring this up to the top, it's pretty hard to stick your fingers up here without getting burned because I got burned before, no wonder there are people, so I'm going to do it very Pull this carefully and try to hide it behind the flower and then just place it, place it around and more or less through and there we are, that's the finished one, so I'm pretty happy with that one, it's pretty similar. but I'm using slightly different flowers and slightly different ornaments, so let's put them both together and there they are, so I'm very happy, quite satisfied with how they turned out, so if I turn them to the side, you get the full effect there. of the tea cup and it looks like it's pouring rain and I think they hold up very, very well being on that bottom plate too, so that's it.
