How To Install 04.5-10 Duramax Fuel Injectors

May 10, 2020
What's up with everyone at the moment we've been waiting for the injector

install

ation video on a 2006 to 2007 LBZ dermaxyl? But to be honest, this will correlate to almost everything from an old 4.5 to a 2010, so make sure guys, stay tuned, so today we'll be

install

ing the remanufactured Bitterroot diesel

injectors

. Now in this particular application this is a 60 plus nozzle so we will have 60 plus nozzles and of course the power will increase with tuning so if you guys I'm interested in purchasing a set of Bitterroot diesel

injectors

. I will leave all your information in the description below. That's what I'm doing.
how to install 04 5 10 duramax fuel injectors
I will install them right in my garage. I'll show you how to do it. sit back and enjoy thanks for watching and stay tuned are just a few of the tools I'll be using today. I will use quite a few tools, but some in particular I will use the crow's foot for the injector lines. they themselves go to the injectors, the

fuel

lines and then some sort of click style digital torque wrench. I don't need the injector retaining bolts, then I have a new return line with the metal fittings, if you are interested let me know.

More Interesting Facts About,

how to install 04 5 10 duramax fuel injectors...

I'll also leave a link in the description for this one. There are metal lines instead of the nice plastic ones they put on the injectors. Those metal lines would connect right here on top of the actual injector. I'm going to move on. and remove this

fuel

filter bracket because it's in the way of this injector, go ahead and remove this nut, it's thirteen millimeters and it's just to hold this coolant line right here, twelve millimeter bolts that actually hold the head of the fill filter to valve cover. button, remove those other thirteen millivolts, then release the fuel filter head here, basically what you're going to do here is remove this wiring harness, go ahead and remove some of these brackets, what you're trying to do. is trying to get to the injector, really anything that is in your way to get to the injector retaining bolts and once you remove the injector itself, anything that might get caught in your way, you will have to remove those parts remove this little rubber fuel line that goes to the filter valve here guys again we're on the passenger side that's what I'm addressing now but you guys are basically getting a general idea of what you have to do pretty much anything that's on the path you're going to end up having to remove is like this, this is a bracket, if I were to take that injector out it's going to be stuck right there so we have to remove that bracket, but so far everything on this side there's 12 or 13 or so and you're going to need a good practice if you're not very familiar with the location of all the bolt locations just put them where you found them so once you install everything back there you know you didn't lose the bolts so right now I'm going to go ahead and Remove the injector return line.
how to install 04 5 10 duramax fuel injectors
There's a little plastic clip here that you don't want to remove, right at the top, which is the right one. Just a little flathead screwdriver here, go ahead and start working with everyone, so I remove the metal clip, this should be the last one here and then basically just pull the return line out of the injector, okay, and you have this last one. Right here, you guys can see this, the other pressure here actually broke, so I'm glad I'm doing this. Your slides are pretty simple, so I'm going to make my own that you want to push down.
how to install 04 5 10 duramax fuel injectors
Here click like this and then go ahead and move it back and forth until it comes loose and just do that for all eight injectors, they're all disconnected. I'm going to go ahead and just remove this wiring harness. I have access to my injector. Hold down. volts here on the actual injection rail here nineteen millimeters I've already released them go and take them out once you release them they usually just start spinning pretty easily here's how you take them off pretty simple make sure you use a socket wrench line or a crow's foot on the side of the ejector because you can easily remove these lines so I'm going to go ahead and get them right so at this point we're going to go ahead and remove the twelve millimeter injector fasteners so it looks like which is breaking pretty freely, that one is pretty tight, but so far so good, this time I'm going to start removing them since I've loosened them up, basically I'm just prying my way through a little bit.
That old ring is catching, so now we have completely removed the four injectors on all cylinders, the fuel lines are holding the bolts and I'm going to clean these bolts. I'm going to reuse them as well as the injector lines now. I know they're going to say it, but to be honest, you can reuse them as long as they're in good shape. What I'm going to do is shoot some compressed air over here. I'm going to clean myself. I'm also going to clean the outside of the lines to get rid of any kind of debris or corrosion of any kind, but here's a little closeup of the injector, here's another one, here, hey, these ones to the side, I'm going to go.
Go ahead and I'll start cleaning all my parts and then I'll show you how to install the new injectors. I hate to see them install a new injector and then duplicate a washer that wouldn't be any good, look down. hole and also look at the injector and make sure all the washers are still on the injectors as you can see here they are all there so the next thing I'm going to do is go ahead and just start cleaning I'm going to shoot some bright cleaning there I'm going to shoot compressed air in there to really clean the inside of these holes, that's where I'm getting that they're all, I mean they're pretty. nasty, they know there's a lot of dirt and crime and things like that.
I think I want to show you how I clean my lines in the garage. It's very easy to see how nice and clean they look here compared to you, you know? here you can see the difference, clean my brake, go ahead and clean it like this, as you can see here how much it takes off, now that we have everything nice and shiny and clean, let's go ahead and take some shiny cleaning again. I'm going to go ahead and shoot it over here one more time and then take some compressed air. Go ahead and shoot it into the hole.
That's all. I'm also cleaning the holes too. It's probably a good idea to clean them right here, you don't want to get dirt under your new injectors when you install them, so I have the new injectors prepped and ready to go. I put the clips on the injectors once I have a note orientation as The guys can see there is a little tab down here so when you put these on and install make sure they are in the down position and make sure have the copper washer there as well as the rubber o-ring. What I'm going to do guys, I'm just going to take some of this motor oil right here.
If you don't lubricate all of these O-rings before you install them, it's always good practice to do that, so I'm going to go ahead and get them ready to apply just a little bit on your finger, just a little touch, just put them in there now. I already cleaned the injector hole with compressed air as well as brake cleaner and a rag, you know, I went ahead and cleaned them. all the surface dust and dirt and stuff around that area so we're ready to go guys we're going to go ahead and put these injectors in right now and once you've got them there go ahead and just move and push down. until it sticks out of the seats there, you can feel it bottomed out, go ahead and release the button on the injector retaining bolts, just hand tighten it for now.
It was a good thing that I went ahead and made my own comeback line in metal. accessories because when I was removing the return line, the original return line actually broke, so I think it was cool that I planned it ahead. Alright guys, I'm just putting in the new clips from time to time once you have all the retaining clips. There go ahead and just connect the end of the return line right here and that's it guys that's how you do it so it's time to go ahead and route the fuel lines back there you've got it all installed and then.
We're going to go ahead and install the injector harnesses back into the injectors and we're ready to go. I'm going to go ahead and button everything up on this side and we'll go ahead and remove the driver's side. I have the passenger side. all buttoned up, we're doing the driver's side at this point, I don't want to go over everything here because it gets tedious, but I wanted to point out a couple of things here, so you can see I'm a little stuck. That just to pick it up a little bit, it's not really necessary, but it just gives you a little bit more access when you're mining that.
In fact, you could eliminate all of that. I just didn't want to cheat with Wye. bridge I didn't want to mess with anything there I went ahead and disconnected the steering shaft right here 15 millimeter bolt that just pops out of the way gives you a little more access as well as all the little fasteners here on this wiring harness I also disconnected the two main wiring harnesses right here at the top, I just attached the bracket, removed the bracket and a few other brackets just to get to the injectors and there's a quick summary of what I removed, all four injectors came off from here.
We're going to go ahead and install the new injectors, put everything back together, we'll go ahead and fire it up for the first time, okay, so we're at the point where we have everything back together. I have to put the air filter in. Again, but one thing to keep in mind here. I'm going to bleed the fuel system, so this is going to be the fuel filter head and you'll have a bleed screw right here. That bleed screw needs to be replaced. It is actually a fuel filter. head rebuild kit right here. I sell them on my website on the truck master diesel comm website that I have.
I have a few of these left if you want to buy one in fact I have some left in red some in blue so leave the link in the description this will replace pretty much all of the fuel filter head o rings so really everything What I need is this here. I mean, it's nice to just have extras in case it starts to fail. leak at this point I won't worry about removing it, so let's go ahead, put this on the truck. It's good practice to use a 13 mil head instead of a flat head because you don't want to take that thing off, it's no fun, so we already took it out, so I'm going to put it on very lightly.
I mean, you should be enough and I'm just going to pump this until the fuel starts coming out of there and then once I push down, hold down. press the ball and then squeeze it, pump it a few more times and break it, you don't need to tighten them too much, you can let the o-ring do its job, that's it, here we go. Guys, it's the moment of truth, so I'm going to let it go and let it idle for a while, but so far everything seems to be pretty good, it's actually a lot quieter, it's fun to start up, you can already tell the difference, So far so good.
I've been idle for about ten minutes and there are no more problems. I definitely need diesel, so I'm going to go ahead and take it. I have to get rid of the wrapping paper on these hubcaps. I headed to the gas station and got some diesel and then. I'm going to bring it back here and then we'll use the technology, and I'll go ahead and show you how to calibrate the injectors. These are my current injector balance runs, you can see a little off, not that bad though, but we. I'm going to go ahead and do what I said.
I'm going to drive it to warm it up. I need to get some bad diesel because, we're going to eat, but we're going to go ahead and use the technology, later. I'm going to have Kyle explain to you how to use this thing and then we'll come back to tell you what, although there is smoke, as you can see, that's not good, so it looks like we'll definitely need to retune the Duramax, so Guys, here's the mechanic Russ Bell, so we're going to need to help the truck master a little bit in programming his injectors, so what we did was we got his nice little technician here so we can help him reprogram his injectors and I.
I'm going to show you guys and show you here how to do it real quick, so we have our Tech 2 connected to the vehicle and we're going to have our key on during this time in the run position we're going to press enter to enter we want to enter our Diagnostics, This will be the same for yours, it is for mine. The 2006 truck is a chevrolet k series truck with four wheel drive obviously powertrain and it is 6.6 liter bb/d diesel. So pretty much what we're going to have to do is go in and get break-even rates after the truck has been running on the new injectors for a while, they should have a chance to read how exactly the tickets work for them and then we can go in and find our ratesbalance and program them because these balance rates, these injectors, how they are placed and how they are done with the Bitterroot diesel engines, they should be programmed within, say, one or two percent of their actual function, so we need to figure out which of these It's scheduled closer to our first numbers, so the first thing you'll need to do is get the truck running before you start. doing this and then you will have to go to the data screen, it would go to the engine data screen, it would show the engine data and at this point you could use your edge CTS or this to find out which cylinder has the best balance rates and because Since this one isn't currently working, I'm obviously showing all zeros, but if it were to start up and run, you would be able to see them all. of the injector balance rates, well I'll say just for any purpose and injector number one has the best balance rate, so we'll take that into account and we'll exit this output and then we'll go down to special functions, we'll go down to the programming of the fuel system and injector flow.
At this point we want to see what the programming points are for our injectors, so we'll click on that normally from the screen. From the factory each of these injectors has a certain coding so we can program these injectors now here since we did these custom readings we don't really have an injector coding that will be specific to these injectors so we need to find one. that's as close to the optimal operating position as possible, so as I said before, we say that cylinder number one had the best balance rates, so at that point we would see that our injector number one and obviously mine are all the same because I have already programmed it.
Mine, the one with the injector, would have been the best, so we would copy this big long injector number from here, at that point we would copy it onto a piece of paper and then we would exit from this. and then we would go to our injector flow rate program, at this point all you would have to do is select each of these injectors, go down to one, select one of those injectors and you can go in here and press the up arrows and down left and right to program the programming of each individual injector so you can program all the flow rates for these pretty simple, pretty easy, there we go when you've programmed them all with those numbers, all you have to do is then press the reprogram button, program the injector at that flow rate, it should work very easy, like I said, with the GM injectors, they will be a little on the different side and you may have to program the injector balance rates for each one.
An individual one, we know that custom injectors don't always give you the balanced flow rates and programming quantities on them, so you need to find the ones that have programming numbers closest to what you are looking to program and stock them. that's what we look at our balance rates to find the closest to zero that we can, those that have the best flow rates at that point, like I said, copy them and program that number for all of them with these custom balance injectors. They will balance each other within one percent so that makes it pretty easy, just program the same injector flow balance for all of them and it will end up working great, that's what I did for this one so it works pretty well. so at this point I went ahead and put in all the numbers like Kyle explained in the video.
I just went ahead and synced each number in there, in my case injector number two was the best cylinder so I went with that and put the codes exactly how they were put in so we're good to go as you can see after I did it. have done, they have definitely cleared up now I have to drive a little bit just to even everything out the injector balance rates are very finicky but it looks like everything is fine everything checked so we have the truck back in the garage just checking for leaks and stuff, but it's cool, my brother-in-law showed up with his Cummins and his 24 valve.
Oh, six very nice trucks here, but yeah, I decided he's waving like a little black mark here. I don't know. He was just showing her how much more excess fuel it feels coming out of the exhaust now and I need a new tune. What are his thoughts after 60 overs on the original tune? Let's go to level one or two because your original injectors are in charge, like they are committing a duration of 2000 us, yes, 60% of the injectors will probably flow twice the amount of fuel at the same time. amount of duration, the amount of black smoke coming out of this thing is unbelievable, yes I'm hauling an overturned trailer here real soon.
I need that Generation Y, but you can try, it's not right, I'll tell you right now. It's not okay to roll coal that's not what it's just dishonest horsepower it's just unburned fuel that should be converted to horsepower but the truck is just blowing excessive smoke now that's why we're talking we need to tune it What is he doing now. and he's going to do a twin boy here shortly, but I really like his stuff, he's got a six seven feel setup here, as well as the entrance of big, old, gigantic benches, so the guys couldn't find you in Instagram, I know. you have one, oh he can get me on 1045 Cummins, sweet, yes, sweet, yes, if you want to know more about his structure, I know a lot, there are a lot of Cummins guys that watch the channel, be sure to contact him.
I'll leave his stuff there in the description below. Yes, I will be at Marks in June for the truck show. It will be the first time I have this on the test bench. I'm looking forward to it, so me, Kyle Rust Belt, mechanic. we're going to ship it so I don't have an exact date in June yet, but we'll let you know okay guys so it's like day two. I've been driving it a little bit just to get the feeling, but still, I know I've said it many times, the truck needs to be tuned, so I need you guys to keep watching the videos.
