If you don't have a permanent marker, you will need crayons to color the markers to do this cool trick that Let's make a glass of water and a paintbrush. Let's use the elements of art today. The elements of art are lines, shapes, colors and spaces. Before I begin, pinkies, friends, I choose a promise that I will do my best. I will keep a positive attitude and finish what I start. I need to work on that. Okay, everyone grab your things, let's get started, let's draw ourselves like a magician. Now you can draw yourself as a wizard however you want. or you can follow me.
how to draw a wizard self portrait wizard week
I'll show you a couple different ways. I'll do it with this handsome wizard over here and this bearded wizard over here, but if you're looking for a different type of wizard. like that kinda famous one with a little zigzag on the top of the forehead, don't worry, I'll show you how to do it too, so let's start by taking a piece of paper and a pencil, maybe an eraser or if you want. You can dive in like I did with a marker. If you decide to draw with a marker, make sure it is a permanent marker.

Later we will do a little trick with a little water. That trick will only work if your drawing is permanent and the colors on the outside are what's called a water-based marker, so to start, I'm going to start by finding the center of my paper, so I'm going to start in a very similar way to both magicians. so I'm looking for half of my paper and then I want to make glasses for my magician. It's not necessary, but I want to make glasses and I want to make them very large with a large circle near the middle. the paper I'm drawing a circle with my finger so I can calculate that size when I have the calculated size I'll go ahead and draw it slowly and carefully the geometric shape known as a circle there we go now if you want to make the glasses a little thicker than you can just add another line if you have a thick marker like me or you can add a smaller circle inside and color it, instant replay finds the middle and then next to my finger in the middle I'm drawing a pretty big circle which will be for the glasses , if I want to thicken it I can draw another circle inside and then color it now I'm going to repeat these steps right next to my first circle I'm going to leave a little space here for the bridge of the glasses and I'm going to draw another circle right there so let's see, maybe trace it a couple of times with your finger first, keep an eye on that circle so you can try it. to get them of similar size, but do you know what happens if they are not perfect?
Okay, neither me nor you are wizard glasses, so now that I have my two circles I can go ahead and connect there. it's going amazing okay i'm repeating the steps here leaving a little space drawing another circle that is about the same size as the first one if it's too big then my smallest circle will go inwards if it's too small then i'll put my smaller circle. big circle on the outside, let's see, I think I'll go ahead and draw it inside and add a little bit of color and connect awesome. Our next step now is to add the eyes.
You can draw your eyes however you want, maybe the eyes are oval shaped and you know, I'm just going to draw the pupil, the little black dot in the center of the eye that you see. I always like to add a little highlight to show the reflection of the light bouncing off the eye or the student adds that right there, draw yours however you want maybe on this one I'll go with a circle the geometric shape of a circle you could even try add two highlights if you're feeling a little fancy that's fine and if you want you can always add eyelashes the eyelashes protect your eyes to keep the dust and dirt out you don't have to think about it right now the nose we don't have much room for our nose here , so my favorite type of nose to draw and this type of drawing is just a little letter u that is turned upside down if you have a different way to draw your nose do it I'm going to open my magician's mouth I'm going to draw a straight line just below the nose, it looks very normal, which reminds me that you can leave your mouth completely like this magician has covered it or you can open your mouth with a nice big letter u, maybe this one is too long. letter u, this wizard is very excited, if you want you could add some teeth and maybe even a lump and bump for the tongue.
I'm going to color this part right there, so maybe this one will be missing some teeth. I'll show you how I do it. I'm going to use a curve for his tongue to show that maybe he's missing some teeth or that he has a cute little hook between his teeth. I'll just color one and there we go, if this is it. That wizard residing at Hogwarts now it's time for you to stay here because I'm not going to add a beard to this one, so if you want a beard you'll want to stay with me here without drawing a beard. with me here, okay, let's go ahead and start with where we want the chin to go here, so I know I have to make room for the magician's body, so I know I want the chin right there and then I'm going to make a curve that goes down touch that little mark and it goes back up it's like a big letter u so I'm starting here I'm going to go down I'm keeping my eye on that place so I can get there there we go and now I'm going to go up to the other side so I'm going to drag my hand up and up now if you're doing harry potter you can always add your little lightning bolt there I'm going to add ears one here and one there right now on this wizard this wizard has a big beard so what I'm going to do here It's something different on the side of the glasses.
I'm making a curved line like the letter c. You could make the curved line very long. You could make the curve go down a lot or you could make it a little short. It depends on you. I went with medium, that's fine and then I'll add some eyebrows to show what my magician looks like. feeling like here we go, you know, in this wizard I need to draw two lines that show that the glasses have legs. Did you know that this is what the legs of glasses are called? Going back, now let's take a little break from the face and move on.
Work on the magician's hat, so for this step I'm going to make a line that extends from here to there, so I'm going to put a little mark here next to the head. here next to that I said next to the head I mean next to the edge of the paper here we go now with my finger I'm going to make a curved line, not curved, a curved line that goes up the head and down, it's almost like a line horizontal, just has a slight bow for the brim of my hat, oh marker, someone had beans for dinner.
Next, I'll add a slightly curved line that arches a little over the top. Look at this. It's going to go up but not too far it's going to pass and then it's going to come down again creating a point right there, okay, let's go ahead and do the same thing with this type of polka dot, polka dot, arched lime color and one that goes up just a little bit . it goes up and down, now let's figure out where we want the top of our wizard hat to be hmm, I didn't leave much room, but that's perfect because I can make the hat look a little wrinkled and worn, I think this guy She's going to have the top of her hat maybe I'm here for her.
I think I'll put the top of her hat right there, so I'll do this next. Do you see my glasses here? I need to draw the side of my wizard head. going up to the hat and now from here I jumped on that brim, I'm going to make a kind of ziggity zaggety crooked line and now I'm going to do the same on the other side, I need to draw the side of my wizard's head now I might start here I think I'm going to start over a little bit and I have to get to that point oh I missed it okay it connects great look how worn and beat up my magician's head is.
The hat looks like now, what I should probably do is add the back of the hat, so starting here I'll come back now, it looks like the hat is on his head. If you want, now you can take a moment to decorate your wizard hat while you're Waiting for us to catch up here, so I need to do the same thing there, where I stretch these lines a little bit, jump over this hat and maybe this one isn't as wrinkled, I think I'll just go. to continue a little bit more starting here oh great, okay, now we can start decorating.
I like making stars like this. I make a small a and then continue making those angles about the same size. I do it five times to make my star. one two three four five maybe you know another way, do whatever is easiest, you could even add swirls or other decorations to your wizard hat, so I'm going to take a break from decorating this hat, you might even want to add a pair of cheeks You don't have to do it now, what I want to do is start working on my wizard's body, let's work on that and then we'll go back and add some hair here now, if you want to turn this wizard into Harry Potter, then think about it. about what you could add to really make it look more like Harry, well what I immediately think of is the little lightning bolt you could add coming out of the hat, let's see if I can improve mine a little bit, there we go and then.
I can start adding the hair, so sometimes Harry's hair is a little shaggy, so I'm going to draw a kind of zigzag line that goes down from the top of the hat and ends on the side of his face, starting at the top of the hat. next to the face there we go now if you want to draw your hair in a different way maybe you are doing a self portrait and you have your hair a little bit longer or you want to draw that you have ponytails or ponytails straight hair wavy hair now is the time once you have your hair there, let's go ahead and then make sure that Harry's head is in the hat, so to do that I'm going to start here, go to his hair, start here, go to the hair there.
We go again and again whether you want to decorate the hat or not, it's up to you, you decide. Sometimes it helps to practice drawing stars or spirals on a piece of paper first if that's what you decide you want to add until you master it. Now let's work on your robe. I'm going to draw a simple robe shape like this. To start, I'm going to start next to the face and make the line go down now, it depends on how long you want your robe. the robe will be oh I made it a little skinny he will be a skinny little wizard and maybe make another line on the other side so on the side of the face draw another line notice I didn't go all the way to the bottom of my paper and then I'm going to plug in now in this wizard I'm going to draw some little pointy feet sticking out let me show you how I'm going to do it and then you can decide if you want to do it directly draw the short straight line that's a little bit longer and then from the short line I'm going to make a diagonal that comes out and comes back to the long line, so I make a diagonal that comes out oh, it has big feet and then comes back perfect now.
I'm going to do the same thing on the other side, long, short, back, now I'm going to close this one and let's say for this one I don't want pointy feet, I just want little feet that stick out like they're Harry's. I have little feet peeking out from under her robe, so for that I could draw two letters u. Now I can think about his sleeves and his arms and maybe the wand he's holding or her if you're making your magician girl. I'm going to start here to make a line that goes out and out like little stick arms but we would never leave them just like stick arms uh no, we are artists, they are very happy now I'm going to make a line that goes down this A long, big line will be the sleeve opening, soI'm making a nice long line that goes down to the opening of the sleeve and I want this sleeve to be something called a flare sleeve, so to do that I'm going to make my line go back up and up and now I'm going to add a hand with just a circle, keeping it simple, just a circle, the hand is closed or clenched because you might want to add your wand now if I'm going too fast just hit the pause button.
I'm going to go ahead and start here on the hand and curve down to the end of the sleeve to make the sleeve opening. This wizard is finished. If you want to add more decorations, you can now. As I finish this one, add another star there, come on, so this is the same thing, a line coming back down on a line coming back down on the hand, maybe this hand is holding the wand and then add the bell sleeve or the opening of the sweet manga now that you're done you can color I'm going to color my wizard with crayons and you could use crayons, you could use colored pencils for what we're going to do with a little bit of marker magic, I wouldn't use markers, okay, I already colored Harry, I'll show you that one in a moment, but for now I'm going to work on coloring this wizard to turn my marker and a paint.
I'm going to start with two colors and I really like to use orange and yellow for this, but if you don't want to use these two colors, here's how you can choose two colors that will do a very good job and you're going to use those two colors to outline. or surround the edges of your assistant, you'll probably want to use two colors that are warm colors or two colors that are cool colors. Here's why the colors will mix when you add the water. You want to make sure you choose two colors that go together very well, you don't want two colors that when mixed together create a muddy or cloudy color, so here's how you can use the right colors to create a beautiful mug painting.
I'm using the warm colors, not all three, just two, you could use all three if you wanted. The warm colors of the first three colors of the rainbow, which would be red, orange and yellow, I could use all three, I'm just. using two if you wanted to use the cool colors, they are green, blue and purple, so you could choose two warm colors, red, orange or yellow, or two cool colors. Notice that when I'm coloring I'm not just making a solid line like this. I'm actually coloring back and forth while I'm outlining the reason I'm doing that is because I'm building up a nice layer of marker and that marker is what's going to become my painting when you're done with one color and then you can outline with your other color and then you're just going to need a brush and a little bit of water, so I'm going to go ahead and add my second yellow color and I'm going to do it the same way, just coloring in around the edges, making sure it's not just adding a line, but really giving it color.
You could even color as a zigzag like I'm doing. You're building up enough color so that when you add water, your trick works well. I'm going to continue. Go ahead and finish this then I'll grab my cup of water and a brush you don't need anything special you won't need paint this is how you can paint without paint this is a cool trick ok I'm ready when you do this trick the key is to let it sit for a while when you're done just to make sure the water does its thing, so I have my water and my brush and I'm going to paint right on top of it. that marker now that's why it was very important that we use a permanent black marker.
We don't want the black permanent marker to turn into paint. We want it to stay there and now I can see that when I start with my marker and add water. It's turning into a painting and I can grab it. I'm massaging my watery brush into that marker to wake it up, grab it and paint it towards the edge of my paper making my magician look like it's cool, so I'm. I'm going to continue going around all the edges. I know your wizard turned out awesome and now you know how to make a couple different types of wizards.
An imagined magician. A wizard inspired by Harry Potter. A Merlin style with a big beard. - portrait assistant for your self portrait, you could have even looked in the mirror to really look at that handsome boy in the mirror, that would be you, that would be you, and draw what you see now if you put on makeup.
