, I want to share a site that everyone should visit. It's called Backlinko. Backlinko is a marketing blog by a friend of mine, Brian Dean. He doesn't have a ton of pages, he doesn't have a ton of content, he doesn't spend his time on manual outreach and link building. However, he dominates the rankings. And it receives hundreds and thousands of visitors a month. He is not the only example. There are many more like it all over the web. And there is a secret, there is a strategy to generate a lot of traffic when you don't have many pages.

Sure, I'll be honest: you won't get as much traffic compared to a site with a million pages. But that's okay. You can still do extremely well and get hundreds of thousands of visitors per month even if you only have 20 or 30 pages. So let's see exactly how this is done step by step. The first thing you need to know is that you need some type of content. You don't need a lot of content, but you do need some type of content. And the content you create must have a strong impact. So before you go out and write any type of content, what I want you to do is go to Ubersuggest and enter all of your competitors' URLs.

When you enter your competitors URLs you will see a page that shows you their traffic, this page shows you all of their top pages. Again, I want you to do this for each of your competitors. Because this will show you their most popular pages. It will also show you the keywords and rank score for each of these pages. And by doing that, you'll now know not only your top pages, what they're about, but also the keyword they rank for. What I want you to do is look at their most popular content pages and see if you've already covered any of those topics.

Chances are, if you have a small website and don't have any links, you don't. But just in case, review them because in that case you will want to adjust your content. If you haven't, you'll want to create new content. What I want you to do is create more detailed versions. In essence, all advanced guides are definitive guides or beginner's guides, whatever you want to call them. But you'll notice that I always use their term guides. It's not necessary to use the term guides, but when I mean guides I mean something so extensive that everyone says, oh my God, this is the end, this is all I need to watch, the rest.
All the things in this space are useless, it doesn't matter. So the way you do this is you look at all the other competitors that are ranking, you look at their pages because you saw those articles on Ubersuggest, you go to those articles, you read them, you make sure your page is five, 10 times better, more complete in length, it's not just about putting the keywords there, it's about thoroughness. I would add custom images and graphics. You can do this for free using tools like Canva or if you want to pay someone you can use fiverr.com.
And then having that, now you'll have a detailed guide that's super comprehensive. And remember, a really important part of doing this is searching for the keyword your competition is searching for because Ubersuggest shows you all of those keywords. You want to make sure you integrate the most popular ones that are relevant to the article. More so, guide them and include them in your guide because if you do that, over time you will outperform other people because your content is better and your user metrics will be better. If it's not as good, you won't shine because your user metrics won't be as good.
And when I talk about user metrics, I'm talking about time on site, people don't bounce back, and by creating something this amazing, they should want to stay much longer than your competitors' URLs. The second thing I want you to do is invest 50% of your time in promoting your content. Now, I would say that in most cases spend 80% of your time promoting content, but when you create these detailed guides they require so much work that you should spend at least 50%. 80% is probably not realistic, but 50% should be doable. Again, on Ubersuggest, when you find these URLs, it shows you all the people who link to them.
If you can't get back to them, simply go to the backlinks report on Ubersuggest, enter the URLs of all your competitors and it will show you every person linking to your page. When you see the list of links you can go to all of them and send them an email saying: Hi John, I noticed you linked to the XY and Z article. I have one that just came out, mine covers AB and C which theirs doesn't. . You can check it here. If you like it, don't hesitate to share it. Regards, Neil. And when you send enough of these emails, I'm not talking about 10 or 20, I'm talking about 50, 100, 200 over time per guide that you're writing, you'll start to get people linking to you. .
The same goes for promotion. You can use search.twitter.com, enter your competition's URLs and it will show you every person who tweeted your competition's article. You link them, you ask them to share it, it's pretty simple. Most people won't share it, but a large portion will, so generally you'll start sharing it on social media. Those two tactics give you links and social shares. The third promotion I want you to do is everyone you link to in your guide, let them know that you linked to them, send them an email and ask them to share your content.
That's another easy way to get more shares on social media. The third thing you should do is generate followers. Have you noticed that if you leave a comment on

.com I respond? If you leave a comment on Facebook, I try to respond. I say try because sometimes there are too many. YouTube, I try to answer all of them. By responding to each of them, I am feeding a community. I'm building that loyalty. Now, I may not ask people for anything, but that helps me over time get more social shares, more backlinks, higher rankings, more brand queries, and people constantly typing my domain name into Google.
That also helps me improve my rankings because Google searches for brand queries. When you ask brand queries and more than your competition, you show Google that people love your brand more than the competition, so you should rank higher. So you want to nourish your community. It's not as simple as publishing content or publishing good content and promoting it and saying, that's it. If you don't care about people, don't do everything you can to help them, you won't do well in these times when it comes to SEO. The fourth thing I want you to do is build a network of content promoters.
Remember how I told you to email people to share your content? Email people to link to your content. Well, you're going to start to see a pattern where some people are willing to do it and some people aren't. Most people aren't, but even the percentage that is willing, once you publish a handful of articles, you'll notice that there are constantly people who don't mind sharing and linking to your content. Now that you have your list of promoters, you know who to turn to whenever you create a detailed guide. You don't have to create one of these detailed guides every week.
Heck, you could do it once a month, sometimes even once every two or three months. It simply has to be of very high quality so that it can maintain your traffic consistently. Last but not least, use Ubersuggest backlinks. That's the backlinks report on Ubersuggest to identify new link opportunities. Always look at your competitors, their new links, lost links and recently gained links. Ubersuggest will show you this in the backlinks report. If someone recently linked to one of your competitors, what do you think are the chances of them linking to you? Well, it's much higher than someone who linked up with their competitors five years ago.
When people link right now, it means they are open to linking today. When someone linked to other people five years ago, they might be done, they might not care about linking to anyone else or updating their site. But when people are continually updating your site, your content, and linking to more people, those are the people you should target with your outreach campaigns because they are much more likely to link to you. So if you do all those things, even if you have a small site, you don't need to create tons of articles or tons of pages of content, they just need to be super detailed, complete, and surprisingly high quality.
If you do that, you can get a lot of traffic. I'm not kidding, over 100,000 visitors a month. It's not about quantity, it's about quality. Quality is the key factor to perform well on Google today. There are more than a billion blogs. That's about one blog for every seven people in this world. Google doesn't need more content, it doesn't need big sites. They need amazing sites with high-quality content to rank. So focus on quality instead of quantity. If you need help with your content marketing and SEO, check out my agency Neil Patel Digital.
