. All work is done inside the vars. We have glued the image side forward and now you are looking at the The back of the images and the inside of the vase that I have gilded behind using gold size and mica powder sounds complicated and you can't achieve great results so I started to doing reverse decoupage about 20 years ago.

This is my son who is now a man with his own family and these were his favorite parrots. I was looking into decoupage because I love images. Ordinary decoupage would apply many layers of varnish on top. I thought it was pretty clever to do it the other way around and go inside. vase this is how it all started we could start with a saucer we have a picture a saucer we glue it on the back here we could use coasters make a very personalized set of coasters these are very fun it's just a very cheap paperweight there are absolutely no limitations so for To start you need to select your images, you need to know one very important thing: they must be laser copies, not inkjet, you must use laser copies, they will not run, the second most important thing is to get really strong. colors and I will show you here this is a tropical vase, it is chosen for the deep purples taking into account what type of background you are going to use, you must choose your images and use them with as much color as you can muster so choosing images is a lot of fun.

There are some examples here. Some flowers. Butterflies are a wonderful filler. I have leaves and leaves of butterflies. Sometimes I like to be a little complicated and make vines. They are great for climbing. The entire length of the vase here is a wisteria leaf. I make these sheets here and the reason is simply to make it cheaper. I can make entire vines out of one leaf, which costs me about three dollars. This is one that we're What I'm going to do here is the sheet and here's a cutout, so once you have your laser copies, the first step is to cut them out.

I use a very old self healing board and just use a regular cheap Stanley knife blade. I tried a lot of really fancy pens like knives I break them all they just break I'm too strong I try too hard find what works for you uh you'll find your groove I find my groove with this you know you can cut them like Well whatever you want, no one's going to tell , so when you crop the images, let's try to make it easier for you. If you make a mistake, don't worry, you can stick it to the glass anyway in two, three, five. pieces you can with one piece, you can go as clean and detailed as you want, keep it fun, keep it light, you have to go with the flow, I tend to move the image in circles quite a bit, as you can see me doing now with you can get the curve right and then you can go back and remove the zigzags later, don't try to do it all at once, just make another circle with your sheet of paper and go back and take it so that you are Trying to get as close to the outline as possible, try to think of yourself as a human photographer, since you're just panning over the image, you don't want to have a white halo line around each image, which you'll get no matter what. neat, you have cropped the image, you will end up getting a cut line, so you will get the white edge of the paper, so I found a system that works well when outlining with some markers and I must say although I am using kitty markers, that's all what i could find today avoid permanent markers avoid markers they are too strong and bleed they look great until you put them on the vase just get any cheap marker pen you can go over the image like you can see me doing here and you will get a beautiful and beautiful clean appearance, so the next step is to place the images initially on the outside of the vase.

We already have the location, imagine them all as they are inside. of the vase and enjoy the background, it is a negative space, but it can be very beautiful. Now I'm just using a blue chat. However, you have to be careful with the blue thumbtack because if you mistakenly catch the side of the image, the color will disappear. Outside, that's why I don't play and organize on the inside of the vase while you stick the pictures on the inside of the vase. When you see me do it, you'll find that leaving others out shows you your place perfectly. you won't get lost, so it's a lot of fun to arrange the images on the outside of the variables, you just have a lot to play with.
Playful is the word you can't go wrong with, so when it came to experimenting I used to do a lot of things. Tudor Ladies By chance, one of my backgrounds of a cropped Tudor lady I put in something very bright and colorful, and voila, out comes this beautiful woman who I actually preferred in some ways to a tutor-looking lady. There really are all kinds of possibilities. nothing that can't be done with a sheet of paper, so all we're really going to need to glue is pva aqua here, which is a little bit more transparent, it says here that it dries clear.
Regular PVA also dries clear, but with added protection and use. a saucer, I'm going to use a paintbrush, I'm going to use some water and I'm going to use a newspaper. You really just want to stick a picture on a sheet, so one of the really important parts of the process is to aim for getting fifty percent pva glue here to 50 water like this just to show you that it's a guess, it's always guessing with me, we'll try and do 50 50 here, I'll be happy with that, we'll mix it up. You've diluted the PVA about 50 50. Now at this point we have a little bit of blue tack and don't forget to remove all of the blue tack.
You don't want the blue tag coming into the process after you. We're done laying it down, if it's too thinned it won't stick properly, if it's not thinned out enough you'll get a shine. The glitter is what can go wrong because there is a plastic thing in the way so that's why I dilute the pva, this is the right way to make the image, keep it pretty much in the same place by placing your finger while placing the Diluted pva, it seems to shrink in on itself and turn into little balls and just disappear, just keep going. really good coverage, make sure it's on every part and that's the look you want.
If you leave it too long at this point, it will grab the newspaper and you don't want that to happen, so move quickly once you place it on the glass. you have plenty of time to move it, don't panic, at this point I'm moving it down and then I'm going to flip it over and at this point I'm just going to press to get its little ears in there. So as you can see, we have these bubbles here. Now we have to remove them. I'll show you how we'll do it. Here you have a common container with water.
I use a face cloth. You might think a sponge would be better. I've got about five or six behind me and I keep changing them you don't want them to get too sticky so you want to keep it as clean as possible so the tea towel doesn't drip it's been wrung out here I'm. I'm going to press down, so I'm not going to look inside initially, but I'm just going to press down and you're going to start from the middle and like any air bubble, you're just trying to find how it wants to come out. Then I need to work carefully.
Now, as long as you don't go to one side, you can exert incalculable pressure and you're going to determine where you are, where the glue is going to come out, you're going to chase it, obviously, this part here. I'm just going to chase it sideways or down. I'm not 100 successful, it won't matter because it will dry, but you're going to do everything you can, you can go too far if you go too far and tear the paper, put something in the way and you'd be very surprised how well they dry together. This will dry as hard as old cardboard.
You won't be able to move it unless you succeed. a Stanley knife blade and really scrape it up. I'm happy with it now it's going to dry much lighter. I got it, okay, I got my glasses on, so here's the big boy. This is going to be great, sublime to the ridiculous. a lot of space goes in here to grab your arm and you give it a really good cleaning, I just use the window cleaner, get it inside where you're going to glue it, really clean it, the next thing to consider is all that at this stage I'm feeling quite inclined.
To make this annoying wisteria at the top, it's actually more practical to start at the bottom, which you're not going to clean, or when you put the disc cloth there and squeeze out the air bubbles a little. We're not going to accidentally dislodge or move or ruin the work you just did on top, start from the bottom generally and work your way up. The other thing to consider at this point is where the highlight is and paste it first. As you can see I'm gluing the wisteria vars I'm moving pretty fast if you take too long applying the glue the image will stick to the newspaper you have to hurry you have to remove it from the newspaper and you have to put it inside, you shouldn't panic , but you have to go fast.
What you can't see me doing is that I'm changing my glue about four times during this vase, just mixing enough. that I can keep it liquid, I can keep it to the point where there are no white flecks of pva solidifying in my mixture, so that was a lot of glue, now we're done on the inside of the vases and onto the next stage. It would be cleaning the vases and preparing them for the background. Here are some photos of all of us together, so before you apply the background you will need to clean up some of this glue residue, you just need to get rid of the leftovers. of paper particularly because they would really stand out, you don't have to be too picky with the wisteria, a slight halo effect won't be a problem, it's a very quick process, you can use it as a finger dry method and just simply rub it on or you can use a damp cloth, but not too wet, enough to move the pva, so all the glue is wiped off now and it's better to start preparing the background, which I'm going to do a couple different ones. now for these beautiful vows here we are going to gild them on the back and to do that we will use this size of gold leaf which is a bit like pva but it never hardens and stays sticky so the mica powder can adhere.
As you'll see now, I have some beautiful examples of mica powder behind us and we have a deep gold here, but we have other colors that I'll show you as well, so it's as simple as pouring it this way is quite a big job, so I'm going to take a little bit so I can probably start with that amount, maybe a little bit more, and then it's more of a daub, you're not really brushing it, so a lot if you splatter it like that you'll get every little bit so the daub gives that lovely texture. You can see I'm creating a texture now and you're going to have to go back and make sure because as easy as it is to see between and the negative space between the images you need to make sure that every part of your image is covered now, once all of this is done. finished, this process you have to leave overnight, so I would probably start tomorrow at the same time I did this.
I want it nice and sticky, it won't harden but it will get very sticky, but it's that simple, so here we are 24 hours later and you can see that the daub texture is still visible, but instead of being white it has turned transparent, now it's ready. having the mica powder inside will grab the micro powder very well, it is still sticky now we will start with this larger vase, it is lighter in the pictures and we are going to use a darker gold because of that, this is a rich type of old gold just We're going to pour it in, shake it all up, and pour it back onto the paper and back into the can that this chin gave me many years ago.
I have tried to use it, but I have not succeeded. That's it, but it lasts forever, so I'm going to throw this in generously. Might as well reuse this gold everywhere. I won't waste anything. Shake it all up. You can see the inside. It has been grabbed by the size of the gold leaf. it's grabbing the mica powder, it's really cool because I didn't really have to handle the gold size much and now I don't have to handle the mica powder at all, we're just going to shake it all up, it's a pretty big container. Um, I have this piece of paper here, we can put it back in the can when we're done.
Turn it upside down, look there, all the wrinkles are there. If you try to brush it, you would have a line. just draw it crazy and then you'll get a random texture look shake off the excess let's go to the right now we move on to the next one and we're going to try the sunny gold it should be a lot brighter and the reason What I'm going to do is these images They are much darker, so we will try. I haven't actually tried it, so it will be an interesting effect, it's much brighter, we won't waste anything.
I'll be rocking it, oh my god, this is going to be brilliant, but you never know how it's going to turn out. You may find it's a little different. You leave it for a few days. Find out that it is quite economical. You can see that I don't know, two large tablespoons adhere to the target size,It's not a thick layer, it's a thin layer, in fact you can see through it, so here are the two different mica powders. There is a good contrast so you can see what we did. Don't use too much mica powder in We shook it all up again in the jar and it started more or less like this, so it's actually a very economical process, so here we are three days after we've given up the mica powder and now I'm going to show you how We're going to pour the polyurethane to seal this beautiful golden texture and there's just the dry mica powder and we're going to pour the polyurethane now.
I'll pour it straight from the can. Normally I would have a jar. but this is such a large vessel that it is foolish to waste time. The only thing we have to remember with polyurethane is not to use acrylic-based polyurethane. Use turpentine cleaning polyurethane. I'm just turning it around and giving it a good first coat. I'm probably going to do three coats on this quick so it's completely sealed and any excess will be dumped right into this fire so I don't waste the poly, use it on other varieties so the easiest way I've found is when you pour the polyurethane.
To get a nice thin first layer you have to turn it upside down for a short period of time. I don't want it to pull out the bottom of the chute. It will never come off. If it is too thick, it will remain rubbery. I don't want to ruin all your hard work, this particular vase will be spray painted gold in preparation for that, what I found is that in white areas gold spray paint, whether black gold or whatever color you use, produces a leach mottling or bleeding only on the clear images, so to protect this particular area from the vars instead of just going in and spraying, now I'm going to do one hundred percent PVA, so all we're doing is protecting our white air or light.
It's something I've learned, you can get away with it, but why worry? While I'm doing the white, I'll continue a little further down, as you can see, we have our two micro powder vases here in the back and with these two. vases here I'm going to spray the inside of this one, the gold contrasts really well with the red, we're going to spray this one with black on the inside, so we'll do it now, it's as easy as that, it's a thin coat to avoid drips, I'll probably do three thin coats so here are the finished vases and just to summarize, this one was done with the gold spray, this one was the sunny mica powder which was brighter and lighter, and this one was the old gold or rich gold. here we have all the powder markers shown between the pictures it turned out beautiful I really love this one and here we have a lamp base and I spray painted the background black from the inside so the only setting I didn't show you was spraying the inside of the vases with black spray paint which is purely cosmetic because you hide the paper embossing on the inside, you can't see all the work that has been done and it just arranges them as you can see. a blackness instead of seeing what you've really done, it just hides all the work, it arranges them beautifully so this is the pug man that I showed you the gluing technique to and we have here another couple of examples of the plates that I have a gold brighter on this one and a bucket of gold here and the pug man himself is actually the same gold as the varieties so you can get a lot of different colors in the gold spray paint.
I think this one was actually called metallic. brass so don't be put off by the word brass you can see I couldn't help myself and I just added some stamps here they are just the rubber stamps you can get and just for a bit of humor. this one itself has a few more images and over here I just got some proper stamps, back stamps and when you spray paint they look great, I use the ink styles, I love the effect, I think it just gives you that. A little background, this bunny has been chased by some dogs and of course the dog is guarding the bunny in this one so everything gets fed.
These are interesting. These are just the paperweights that we have put some green felt on the back of. I don't go through any process other than gluing them together like I did with the pug and the vases, and these are great because the eyes tend to follow you around the room, they're a little strange, so that's my whole process for how to do reverse decoupage I hope you found it fun and that you have the confidence to try it, you know, start small and make yourself a nice wide neck like this, don't try to get in here the first time. so after all this hard work we want to prolong the life of the glass and make it look as beautiful as it does now and I have been asked many times if you can put water in them and use them as a vase and technically you can do that because they are made of polyurethane and sealed, but in case there is a puncture from an artificial flower or a branch of a berry, use a liner, just cut something, an old drink bottle, and then you are totally safe and last but not least, As with all really good art, don't leave it in direct sunlight, it will fade over the years and that would be a huge shame, so enjoy all your hard work and keep it looking beautiful.
I hope this how has inspired you. to the video there are many more to come, what would really help is if you have to press this little button here that says subscribe, there is a photo of me, subscribe will appear, press it, I know it's weird, please do it and bye for now.
