How Majors Work at NYU Stern

Feb 27, 2020
Hi guys, I'm Maura. I wanted to do a video today about how

majors

work

and why they're looking specifically because I know a lot of people are applying right now or have already applied early decision and I know when I applied I literally had no idea. how this all

work

s at NYU, the most important thing is to know what school you want to apply to, so if you're applying to CAS and you think you might end up wanting to get into Stern, that's not a good idea, you can transfer. between schools, but some schools are harder to transfer to than others, so Stern has a very low transfer acceptance rate while CAS may have a higher one and it is also important to keep in mind that when you are applying you will they give the option to put in a backup school, so for example you can apply

and then if you didn't get involved you could apply to CIS, but it's very important to note that, especially if you're making an early decision, because then if you don't get your first choice, then you're limited to your second choice, which I know has happened to a lot of people, so I know when I was applying I think I wrote on my application that I wanted to go into finance, but no I wasn't sure how that worked and if I applied then I would be obligated to do finance or something so I think explaining a little from my non-professional experience might help some people so yeah I'm not a professional. but this is what I know and what I think is correct, so when you apply harsh mode, the important thing in what you write is that your major asks for it to be a business major versus B PE, so b PE is business and politics. economics so those are the two

majors

that you can choose from and they put you in different types of programs and they are severe so if instead you are a B major in PE or a business major and then if you are a specialty in PE than that, that's what you're doing.

I don't think you have anything more specific, you don't need specific concentrations like you do if you're a business student, so when you apply this it doesn't really matter, I don't think once you get to Stern, if you're a business student, then you can choose between concentrations, for example, there are concentrations in finance, accounting, marketing, etc., if you choose your concentrations and those are under your specialization, then I am a business major and I have concentrations, so it is not your specialization, it is your concentration which is important because that's what it says on your diploma, it says business major, if you're not a marketing major for a concentration, the difference is that normally you only have to have 12 credits, which ends up being about four classes, so you could take four marketing classes and concentrate on marketing, but for business, your classes have a really nice shape, like sort of staring leaves.

More Interesting Facts About,

how majors work at nyu stern...

Darte tells you all the classes you have to take, the options and classes you have in some situations, so they are different chords that we have, like we have a global business core, social impact core, and so on with the classes that you have to take and then you have your classes that you choose to take for whatever concentration you want. There are also tracks in stone, so for example, I know there is a deluxe marketing track, so you would take the courses that they list and that are in this track, but this is not a specialization or even a concentration, it is just something you would then put on your resume, like completing the fancy marketing degree, it's not in your money, it's just something you can say you completed at Stearn, you can do three things in total when it comes to majors and minors, so, for example, you could do three concentrations or two concentrations in the minor or you could do a double major and a minor in one concentration, etc., so you just can't, you can't do. four concentrations or something, along with that, for example, my current plan is that I just declared a double major in German and then I have the business major with a concentration probably in marketing and then I'm also looking into the B SMS program and accounting . so I would just get my masters in accounting with an extra semester or just add an extra summer, it's actually three things in total, don't worry, most people are not that complicated and also an important point is that most people don't decide their concentrations or specializations or anything until junior year, meaning you don't go in freshman year and do exactly what you plan for the most part, like, I got in, you're thinking I was going to do finance and global. business and I'm a long way from that now, but I hope this video wasn't too rambling and as always, let me know in the comments if you have any more questions or if you have any other videos you'd like.
