How to install Oatey shower drain on a concrete slab for a shower pan liner

Apr 18, 2024
Hello everyone, in this video I will

install

the

shower

drain

used with the rubber

liner

on the

concrete

floor. This is a very large

shower

measuring five by nine feet. The first thing I will have to do is remove the

concrete

. that surrounds that pipe to remove the concrete, you have to use some type of chipping hammer. I use a Dewalt Cordress sds max 60 volt hammer drill which does a great job especially in the basement where there is no working outlet, now I have access. I'm using a standard shower

drain

that you can get at Home Depot.

This only fits a two inch pipe and is made by Oakley and the part number is four two three one zero. the bottom measures two inches at three quarters and the inside measures 7 8 of an inch. Okay, the first thing you want to do is mark the pipe around it so you can cut it flush with the floor. I use a Dewalt Multi. -pipe cutting tool that gives me a cleaner and more uniform cut. It works in most applications where you have pretty good access. You have to use it as themselves or other sources, all good once I cut the pipe.

I have to make sure the P trap still holds water because if it was damaged it would be dry. The bottom is two and three-quarter inches, so if you're comfortable where you're cutting, you can measure just two. inches under, but I measured an inch three-quarters, so in case something goes wrong, I have room to correct it because you can't always cut that pipe perfectly straight, so you always want to have some room to correct it. use a small adapter for a drill it's basic like a little tool you can get online and i will try to have that link below in case you need it, once you cut the pipe just clean up the debris around it and then you can place in I dry your drain, mine sits about a half inch above it, so I still have room to cut it a little.

One thing is that when you try to step on it it won't always go all the way down, it's like once you have glue, chances are you can always push that drain and another one. Well, the most important thing when

install

ing your shower drain is to make sure you have everything perfectly level and I mean in both directions. It has to be nice and level, otherwise you'll have some problems when you're building the shower tray because the drain will be closed, so you want to make sure the base is perfectly level once you're dry. I installed everything and everything looks good, you can apply the primer.

I use a pulper primer and then use a heavy duty clear PVC glue. Once you have the glue on the pipe and drain, you can just slide it on, so first thing. You have to make sure you keep that joint nice and level, so that's the most important part and then you don't want to let it drop too much because when you have glue on the pipe and a drain, it can slide. much further compared to when you feed it dry so you always want to make sure you don't push it too low, once the drain is nice and dry you want to make sure it's dry inside you can just enjoy it. the plug because we are going to pack the concrete around it and make sure the drain is covered so that that way nothing falls in there yes, I use a regular scent to cover the concrete, I will just mix it almost dry to make it easier to pack. it's dry enough that it will stick, but it's not like you don't see a lot of water coming out of it and you're basically not going to pack the concrete around it, try to pack it in as much as you can and then use some kind of tool to basically compact it. and push it.
The biggest problem I had with this drag was that the plumbers, when they installed the p-trap and did the shower plumbing, they didn't eat. that pipe at the perfect level was like a little bit out of place, they always have to make sure to try to cast it with a drain, but it's not always that easy, so that way you try to pack the concrete as much as you can on the one side just to push that tube a little bit to make sure it stays at the perfect level and then it will always make sure to maintain that level, so you have to have that little level handy because you can always push that drawing a little bit and then you won't even notice it now, but later it could be a problem.
This is the biggest and most common problem you come across. When you shower like that, most of those drain pipes are installed and there are a lot of problems that I should get it right at a perfect level, yes in some cases it's so bad that I just have to cut the P-trap and reinstall it again . In the end I'll just remove any debris around the drain, just making sure. You get a nice, smooth transition between the concrete that way, you don't have to pump or anything like that. If you want, you can just wet the sponge and just smooth the surface around it and make it even nicer and softer.
