Honda Sent Us a BRAND NEW 1984 Honda Civic That Hasn't Run In Years! Can I Start It?

May 08, 2024
so you have to do what we do. I'm being patient, I mean, this is all we have to work with, but just to point out that these three Jets down here at the bottom of the Float Bowl, they've continued to get drunk, they're very small, that's what fuels our pump a lot. of throttle and um, so we have a side road to get in, so if we're still not in good condition to get fuel to these four cylinders, then we're going to go, yeah, we're going to exploit that. Remove the license plate and we're going to go back in just to make sure because it really is like a license plate situation, okay, go ahead, let's see if it

start

s, it has to fill up with fuel first, it's idling, that's the car.

I'm off the throttle oh my gosh you're right this thing looks like it's running fine it's like the F this is the first time we've seen it running on all cylinders yeah running on all cylinders without your foot on the throttle. I know, there's a vacuum line that we need to figure out, there's one where the little nub that the vacuum line goes to broke off, so it could be part of our high idle so it's running, it's running, So be it. I need to drive it I think we should put the hood down to go get a drop Hey, let's get everything working right first on a new

1984

Civic Yeah, oh my god, case, you have brakes.

More Interesting Facts About,

honda sent us a brand new 1984 honda civic that hasn t run in years can i start it...

I have brakes. Good brakes, we tested them. the brakes the brakes work the clutch works the clutch works the steering works it works the seat belts don't really work in the back seat it works A great case to not burst your bubble, but I think the engine died. Oh, you sure can barely hear it, let's see, remember that. Just before we left I thought, should I stay back in case it gets ruined? no, we're good, we're going to keep running it, uh-huh, hey, it needs to work, you know, that's what's happening. to make this happy wow second gear Cas is already up to 4,000 RPM Cas has 6 5.7 miles oh wow, we're shifting at 70 well that's pretty good for a new car how strange is that how strange is that what's it like?

From the back seat Tommy, it's actually very spacious, incredibly comfortable. I love these little windows and the little Skylight windows, yeah it's like a Land Rover, oh it feels really good, it's a bit depressing that the first drive this car has probably had in 40

years

. It's on the ground, well, it's almost a good test, plus it doesn't sound at all, right, yeah, it doesn't sound like the car has much sound. I think so, look at the engine temperature, yes it is getting a little hot. Damn it's idling yeah yeah it's idling and once it's yeah we better get back here there's still some things to figure out.

I wonder if that thermostat is giving us problems again, although that would be strange because it's new, it's new, not just new 69 Mi, we put it in 2 days ago, yes it's hot, but we won't be coming, luckily we're not far from the ranch, yeah, it's definitely hot, but that's weird because we know the thermostat opened, uh, yeah, get the heat coming in here and good idea, yeah, it's definitely getting hot. I'll pull into the driveway and then turn it off, yeah you can get the truck and trailer last minute, well we went for a drive, we know it works, that's nice.
Well we just have to iron out a few things here and there and that's funny too because with the heater on we weren't getting any heat so we're not getting coolant flow maybe we're not getting coolant flow yeah it's cold . It's a shame to air the way back to the garage down the long dirt road, now we know we have coolant in the engine. We missed it a little yesterday when we took the carburetor out, but it should still be pretty juicy, full of coolant, it's ours. The coolant line is still in the case, uh, it's hard to see that the line is out of the case, well, no surprise, uh, we were very excited to put this back together, there are so many lines on that carburetor, uh, I It's surprising that it seems like we just lost, don't worry, yeah. we only missed one, we got the Honda Pioneer, let's go down the hill and see if we can't find out what happened to these guys, we got the first Honda to rescue the other Honda, this one probably found a hose faster. from our hose behind the carburetor because it's antifreeze because Alex Rush, yeah, that's why he was peeing himself, that's why there wasn't enough pressure to open the thermostat, yeah, so we should be good, we put a and we blew that air out.
Cleaner, put a hose on and then we'll head out for another test drive, yeah Tommy, what's up with your hehe? We are pushing them back uphill. I like the Honda Synergy we have here, yes, honey. I need to put my hat back on. I have to go with a four-wheel drive vehicle. Baby Woo doesn't pay attention. We are going backwards. I guess we left Alex behind. Someone tell me where I am on the level down there. Did you know? I'm realizing, yes, you know how I can shift and lower the revs by lifting the accelerator pedal.
Okay, now we're too tight on our tension, so I'm wondering if we have too much, yeah, uh, 12mm open. You can leave that on I think we can get away with that yeah just our little adjuster gives it a little more slack do you want to try running it again Andy yeah okay so we cool it back into the engine it sounds like B would have shot himself again Cas. yeah, sounds like it's missing, sure. See what, so Andy, you connected the coolant line back to the car, but now it's not idling like before. No, a cylinder is missing again. um, I'm turning up the heat.
I can see the gauge moving, it almost feels like it's a vacuum leak, yes all our hoses know anything can happen but we've been there so I already know the car setup is probably pretty close and works fine at the higher RPM, it's just there. right, yes it's the bottom end, the other thing we noticed also is that our accelerator pedal is out of adjustment so it's idling at 2500 and that could also have been part of the reason it was running so well, since it never reached lower. Two grand, even after we removed the carburetor, cleaned it, and reinstalled it in the car three separate times.
It still needs more work to fix all the problems that using old gasoline for 40

years

created, but at least we got to drive it for the first time. first time in decades, so now our best option is to take this car to Andy's shop so he can continue working on this carburetor and we don't have to make round trips to get the carburetor back to the way it will be. able to run it well, heat cycle it in their shop and get this car to a point where we can

start

driving it and get it to the right places and currently the plan is are we going to drive this car potentially over the 000 miles back to their Museum in California and show that process too, so what do you want to see with this 84 Civic that is basically new?

Civic. wagon you got, I mean the Hound Tooth fabric, you know, the interior seats, uh, features, I mean, I just love it, it's just really a mid-8 car and that's glorious, but another vehicle that had the same kind of backstory is a 2009. S2000 CR um, which literally, not long after I took over, I got a call from the facility and I said, "Hey Carl, we found this car that you might not like." interest". "Okay, so what's so good?
So it's 2000, of course." I immediately stood up and was very interested, okay, what year? So, 2009, which of course was the kind of half year, the last half year, and it's a CR, which is the collaborative version of RTI and it's in white, which is a very rare color. uh for that and it has less than 300 miles on it so it's a

brand

new S2000 CR that was at a training center in Texas they probably had the brake pads replaced 400 times but yeah it was there and then they moved it to our service of engineering. uh, in Torrance, California, and it finally came to me, so it might very well be the most valuable vehicle we have.
You know, we took it very easy and I've probably never driven an S2000 as slow as I did, yeah, from a million miles. Vehicles all the way down to those that are basically new, kind of like New Old Stock, if you will, really covers the entire range of vehicles that we have.
