Apr 18, 2024
thanks hello this is Steve this is how to earn five and

review

s and today we are going to take a look at this beautiful 30 year old CB 754, a motorcycle that just 23 years earlier changed the world of motorcycling forever so today take a look Look at this particular

bike

up close and we'll put it on the beach and dirt roads and see how it stops. We'll take a look at its ergonomics and we'll take a quick look at where the 754 started a

bike

that is probably one of the most recognizable bikes or names at least in the world when this bike first came to our shores here in Australia and I think in most of the world, UK, US etc, it was around the end of 69/early 70s.

Here I think it totally changed the Australian motorcycling market and for younger motorcyclists today it is It is difficult to explain how this motorcycle revolutionized the world of motorcycling to begin with, it had

four

cylinders, most motorcycles of the time were twins or singles. 120 miles per hour straight out of the box, that's almost 200 kilometers per hour, had 67 horsepower more than almost anything else out there, had a five-speed gearbox, did a 13-second quarter mile and a half, he didn't. It had an oil leak, it had electric kick and start, it had a hydraulic disc brake on the front and you had no reliability issues, you could race this on a Sunday and take it to work on a Monday, it won almost every race it was put in and To give you an idea of the bikes we had back then, the Triumph Bonneville, which had about 45 46 horsepower, I had the Norton 750 Commando, an expensive bike but it was very tough, it had 58 horsepower, so yeah you can imagine. how this bike totally changed what we know and here we are 23 years later, well this bike is 23 years newer and it's still a

four

cylinder.

More Interesting Facts About,

They increased the horsepower, they increased it, they have bigger disc brakes, we revised the suspension, but we're looking at basically the same machine 23 years newer, so let's get in there and take a closer look at this beautiful Madison. I think it's undeniable that if you're a fan of Suzuki Kawasaki Yamaha Honda, the look of this bike is really impressive, it's just a beautiful guy, it's a 750 or 747 CC seat, inline four, actually, but it's transverse, it's from east to west along the frame and that 75 horsepower doesn't sound like a lot, but it only pulls 215 kilos of bike, it is what it is. light, it's incredible now I know I'm

used

to riding the Gold Wing and the K 1600 and all, but 215 kilos, even by today's standards for a 750 cc machine, is pretty good, what's with the front brakes 470 odd pounds?

You have 297 thousand. rotors, that's, well, they're about 12-inch rotors up front with two-piston calipers. They don't look like anything special, but they are more than adequate for this bike, they are drilled and ventilated, so they have the cooling holes. I had a little trouble with them the other day and I have to say that I didn't suffer any brake wear on the track and I was a little surprised to only have the two-piston calipers, but it stops pretty well. The gearbox is great, it's slick, it's precise, there are no false neutrals, the shifts are as good as anything you drive even on the current market in the rear it has a 240k rotor and it's drilled once again to cooling with a single piston caliper and look for the amount of rear braking or rear braking that you do, it works and it works pretty well.

The rear shocks you can see are spring at the rear with the remote reservoirs. You can adjust the spring preload from here. I have it. On the lowest setting, I find it to be the most comfortable for this bike and type of riding. I have no problem riding this bike, and yes, look, the rear shocks are for double shocks. I mean, nowadays it's all simple, they work great, they sound like Here the wheels spin a little as I head down one of the many thousands and thousands of miles of dirt roads we have here in Oz, but when I was a kid, When I was 10 years old, in 1970, I remember my neighbor bought one of the same ones. first Honda CB 754 and it was a totally foreign sound to me, this multi-cylinder motorcycle and every morning at a quarter past

seven

or a quarter past

seven

in the morning I would start the motorcycle to warm it up before going to work and even today when I hear that four cylinder sound, if you can get some old stock exhaust systems working.
I can still remember it like it was yesterday. Foreign and of course that's not the sound of this motorcycle, which is the original four into four exhaust system, but it's completely recognizable if you came from that era because it was very different from anything else that existed, something I didn't mention when we looked at the engine before, we're talking about the horsepower, etc., this is double overhead cam, this is a 93 model. As I think I mentioned the previous models, the K series had a single overhead camshaft , so this is where you get the extra horsepower. The valves are a little larger with double overhead camshafts.
It has four 34k carbs, so there is no fuel injection. They are very simple to work with. In um it's pretty easy to balance and although really with Honda carbs, once they're set up, unless you start playing with things, you usually won't have any problems. A little dipstick, easy to operate down here, you won't have to do it there. It's there so you can see if it's full, you don't have to start it and warm it up and then wait a period of time to check the oil, dip it before you leave in the morning, start the engine, it's all basic and simple.
As far as size goes, this is a relatively small bike, it's just under 1500 millimeters long, it's over 58 inches and which we already talked about, it's relatively light, the seat is nice and wide, you can ride this bike for a couple of hours without having to do it. too many dramas actually we'll take a closer look at the seat height seat height 795 millimeters so that's about 30 one more mustache than 31 inches and look it's cute it's simple I'm only 5 10 but with shorter tighter legs and I can have both feet flat. I mean, the bike is light. I just can't get over how light it is in terms of instruments, so I'll move the camera a little closer to see the instruments.
There's nothing too technical here. a whole bunch of electronics going out over here, you've got your gauges, um, gauges on the left, oh, trying to film up here, there, so they're flashing down here, you've got your oil light, neutral light and your I don't know Yes You'll see it or not, high beam down here, that's it, it's so simple, oh the only other light is the side stand light that you can see on this one, maybe you can see it on the camera, they've already gone 75 000 kilometers, that would be going up to about

fifty

thousand uh that's a little bit less than that about 46,000 miles start button down here and it's simple, it starts very easily and it just purrs, that's right, so you have a choke too, so, um, for the cold. weather down here, pull the choke and you'll hear it start to work hard.
It looks like Cammy wants to pull the choke, but it's a very simple non-hydraulic clutch, so it's just the cable operated clutch where you adjust it from here. You don't worry about the hydraulic system. It has, of course, hydraulic front brakes. We looked at the front calipers earlier, but it's simple, so I'll turn it off. The locking gas cap is very easy to live with, so, um, you can. park without fear of someone taking advantage of your fuel and as I think about the 20 liter fuel tank which would be about five gallons in the US I would say it's around the five gallons Mark um 20 liters it's probably using to be honest.
I haven't done a proper fuel rating on this bike, but I think it would be five to six liters once again. I guess it depends on how you ride it, but with this style of bike you're not chasing it around like you would a scooter. If you're looking for incredible fuel economy, this is the kind of bike that you can ride daily or you can just ride it on the weekends and no matter where you park this bike, someone wants to come up and they have a chin shake over the bike and the They'll call it Survivor and all that kind of stuff and what I mean by that is it hasn't been modified, it hasn't been cut, it hasn't had big bars or it hasn't had parts hanging off, it still has it and we'll see if it has the original exhaust.
It's nice, quiet, reliable, doesn't leak or I mean, it's a Honda right? But, yes, yes. There you have it, that's the best thing about simplicity and one of the great advantages of that light weight is its maneuverability. You can see here that it spins in an instant. This is a complete 180 degree turn to the left. I'll go down here in single lane once again. all the way to the right side, no feet down, slide the clutch up the high side of the body and just sit the bike around the tires on the rear 150 70 17 and the front is also a 17 but a 120 70 17 and more than adequate for this.
On the bike, the shifting is perfect and what I'll do now is crank it up and let you hear the lovely note. I have a decibel meter installed back there, so I'm going to grab this microphone accent, oh, from behind the bike a couple of meters here we go these are original guys no also in terms of acceleration it reaches 100 which is a little bit more 60 miles per hour I tell you what Boogie can still do I'm not sure what happened the camera there just stopped working when it hit that sixty mile per hour mark but rumor has it that it will go up to about 135 miles per hour which it's a little over 125 miles per hour, pretty respectable for the day under the seat and there's a little keyhole in the back here, twist to move the seat up, she comes and goes, look at the state of this down here, I mean, it's so simple, there's your fuse box, I don't know how many fuses there are in there, but there certainly aren't many air cleaners down here.
If your battery is there, it still has the original tool kit in there. The previous owner gave me that it is a USB and that it is the complete workshop manual for the bike, which is useful and I love it. feature here, take this out, slide it out and there are the original Honda books that came with the bike, put it back in nice and simple, there's just nothing too difficult about this bike and I know I've been thinking about the simple and easy this bike is. I live, but just take a look at this and this is something that really scares me with this bike and I know my other bikes.
I have a lot of big bikes, but how easily it now sits on the center stand to give them. One idea, I weigh 84 kilos, which is about a hundred and about 185 pounds, so I'm not very big in weight, but bring it here. I'm not that light either, okay. The center stand is on the ground, I basically just put my foot on it and really just guide the bike, it almost puts itself on the center stand, once again I push the center stand down so I'm just pushing I guess the I tip my foot to the little platform and it's up, I mean, that's it.
So easy that I managed to clock in about an hour and a half on the track the other day and I can tell you that even a 30 year old this bike holds its own at 100 miles an hour, 100 miles an hour through the long sweepers, I had no head. he wobbles at all. I'm using the Battle Ax, the Bridgestone Battle Ax front and rear set to the correct pressures and it did a wonderful job in my state where I live here in Oz. This falls into the

classic

motorcycle registration category, which is about a quarter of the cost.
It would normally cost to register a motorcycle and these bikes are

becoming

increasingly

collectible

. The value increases more and more. I was lucky enough to get a nice example of the CB 754. I think in the US they may have called it the Nighthawk. Could you correct me on the fact that I am not a Honda 754 expert by any means, although I have owned three of them over the years, the 754 came out about six years before it was legally on the road and I got it I lost early. series of bikes, but I'm sure there are about 750 experts who can tell us the whole story and I would love to hear it in the comments section so that other people who are watching this video can get feedback on this bike. there's a big storm brewing you can see I'm on a dirt road or an unsealed road here there's a big storm brewing in the background and I'm heading straight for it.
I have about 10 miles of dirt or unsealed Still a ways to go. I raise the tire pressure very well in the rear. I like to steer the bike with the rear end and there's no traction control or any of those creature comforts to spoil that style of writing. They really are wonderful. bicycle and if you can get oneand hopefully one that hasn't been modified with exhaust, bars, forks and everything else people do to them, a good stock original bike, it's definitely an investment, cheap to ride and cheap to own. They are simply a wonderful, versatile motorcycle.
Well, if you've made it this far in the video, you've probably noticed that I'm really enthralled with this motorcycle. I love driving it. I love looking at her. It's just a great thing. but look, if you enjoyed the video, don't forget to hit the like button and subscribe and maybe share this video with someone you know who is interested in buying a sport, maybe a Honda 750 person, but it's time for me to stop . Be brief and I'll see you next time, greetings, that's my look at the Honda CB 754, the bike that was and always will be for the riders of my generation, the first Superbike in history.
