his secret beach house is inside a box truck
I'm Scott, we're in Orange County, California, and this is the box

truck

from my

beach

house. I have owned RVs and boats my entire life and it was very easy to transition to a smaller RV, especially when I retired. The priority of building this was the place I've been surfing. over the last 50 years they reduced their length limit to 25 feet and I was 36 tons so I couldn't go there anymore so I designed this and I really wouldn't have built it but then Co came along and I got stuck on the board. start, so I bought a truck from a friend and got to work.

More Interesting Facts About,

his secret beach house is inside a box truck...

It is a 2008 GMC SL Isuzu truck. The reason I specifically chose the truck was that I wanted a commercial chassis that could support a lot of weight because I am fully self-contained and I wanted to totally separate the cabin from the housing, it has one more organ box. 18 feet which measures 8T tall, so the construction itself on the inside measures 16t by 7 1/2 feet wide and is approximately 7t tall. The floor has been raised so I also have underfloor storage, everything including the truck and my modifications cost about $65,000. The unique part is that this is an all-electric vehicle, it has six lithium batteries, 1,600 watts of solar on the roof, it has never been plugged into an outlet. it is not connected to the engine it has been running for almost 3 years only on solar power it has a refrigerator a separate freezer two air conditioners a washing machine a microwave a water heater it has everything and also a 50 inch TV and it is never been without power, but this is my 18t movie screen.

I have two guitar speakers, a projector and a mixing console and we very commonly make movies here with a very bright projector at night. This is my main diesel tank. I wanted to carry more fuel. so I put this box here and had it made and it also has an attachment for a diesel heater if you wanted to put one in it. It also carries two spare diesel tanks, two red gas tanks and then the place to store my wetsuit and I have a generator that fits in there but I've never used it walking forward. I have the waist tank that goes up to here and basically every month I put this hose on a pump station, pull this and in less than 3 minutes.

It's done, I put it back in, I put it in and I'm out of here, which is why I chose to use a regular holding tank instead of some type of composting toilet or composting toilet. I didn't want to ruin it. in the back I have storage drawers throughout the back this is the configuration of my umbrella it is not attached to the ground it comes out of one of the receivers and all of this is stored under the floor there this goes down this goes down this is on magnets goes in the behind the chair this folding chair goes up there this ladder goes right in this cavity here and underneath here is my surfboard storage right now I have an 11t surfboard here and I also have shelves on either side that will hold surfboards and this is a 2,000 pound hydraulic lift so I have a bike rack that goes down to the floor I put my motorcycle on it and it lifts it up and when I go out I have to lift it up like this and then I just undo the two latches put the back down , close the latches and I'm leaving this is my living room this is my 50 inch TV this is the dining room table and also the extended counter space stands up the reason I have an extendable table is that I need it a little more counter space and also when I have my kids or grandkids with me they need a place to eat this is my hanging clothes this was going to be firewood but now it's my hat storage and my secondary air conditioning unit so why am I parked on the beach most of the time and this is my view the windows are made to fold down and that's why the ropes are always up there and then the door unlike most RVs I have the door that it opens inward so I can get a nice breeze through here I made this area here for convenience and I just wanted it to look nice, it's backlit guitar binoculars and my grandson's Filmore and on top of that is my electrical control panel and I have a controller Victron color and then the blue SE 12 volt and 120 volt and of course storage for sunglasses and then this opens up and there are all the electronics for the entire system.
I have a 7 ton L shaped sofa on this side. I have another counter that is my main air conditioner right there, the top fan on this couch. it lifts electrically and underneath is the entire electrical system, six Battle B plate batteries, a 3000W inverter and two charge controllers, and that's a washing machine, this is my kitchen area, starting with a place to store chairs for the table, a butcher block top in keeping with the All Electric theme. I chose a good sized induction hob which works very well and then I have a deep stainless steel sink with hot and cold water and there is a fan that sucks everything up and runs across the floor.
A real tile thermometer for my refrigerator is at 38 my freezer is at 8 isothermal refrigerator this is it this whole area is thermostatically controlled here and I have stainless steel drawers my limited top storage everything is pretty much designed for my living toaster all kinds of things here um shaving kit cleaners all that shop towels paper towels this is my trash area two trash cans that sink deep into the floor one is burnable trash and the other is burnable trash that doesn't burn because when we're around a campfire you usually burn the paper At night so down here I have a separate freezer that is fully stocked and has been running for 3 years off and on to keep up with cooking instead of having upper cabinets everywhere.
The entire floor has been raised and this is my pantry. I have nine storage spaces. containers that lift up and then slide to each side for things I don't use as often and I also have bathroom areas for my AC DC and plumbing. The reason I opted for underfloor storage in this entire unit is that I don't want overhead storage. I see that there are too many vehicles that have cabinets on both sides and I feel like I'm on a very congested looking plane, so I chose underground storage with the things I don't use as often. it's my sleeping area, it also does a couple of other things, this is the air conditioning inlet, my microwave, then down here, the floor rises for more storage under here, this is my hamper and shoe storage, This is very misleading, but it goes much deeper.
That's my hanging locker. The bed itself is a small double. I call it a large single. To make it bigger, it slides out to here and then the filler pad goes back there. It has 8 inches of foam. I have a fan. It's hot then because there are no windows in this area. I have a monitor system. I have cameras outside. I have all kinds of electronic devices here. I have the thermostat for the ac dc air conditioning unit. USB. There's a lot going on there and then I have my reading and storage lights in the ceiling, all of this is from the Cedar line and then, very important, when you come back here, they are connected with a three-way switch, all of these ceiling lights , so I can control these lights from back here or from the front, so when I go to bed I can get rid of everything on this side.
I get comments about this because the lights are all symmetrical. I have one in the middle that doesn't work. This is actually the only body part of the original truck that works outside of the chassis. batteries and there is a switch on the dash of the truck so the reason I left it in and plugged it in is so if I ever lost the whole system this little LED light would run off the two starter batteries for a week and it would would illuminate to the sink through the glass door, so it will basically be my emergency light.
As for building materials for the roof, I use cedar and I wanted to wrap it around the wall a bit to give it a nicer look and then have recessed lights behind it. What I can adjust with the light level. This is the entrance to the bathroom. I went with diffused glass because there is a ship's hatch there and I get some light through this. That's the purpose. I have an unusual toilet. It's a jabsco. The toilet fresh off a boat is basically the same toilet I had on my sailboat and the reason I chose this one over composting or normal RV toilets is that it doesn't stink because it's like your house when you flush the toilet. .
It actually flushes with water and retains water, so you never get the holding tank odor. The downside is that it uses a little more water, but I carry a lot of water, that's not a problem, one of the goals. of this construction was to have a separate bedroom, a separate 7t sofa area and a separate bathroom with toilet. It was important for me to have a big shower, especially in winter, to take off my wetsuit. I retain enough water so that with the water with the water heater here I can take a 5 minute shower leaving the water on.
I built this mainly for myself during the six month summers, but I also built it for my kids who come camping with me and my grandson, he can. sleeping on the ground he he loves it okay no plans to make any more modifications like I've been doing which is 6 months of summer surfing and then 6 months in the desert well part time yeah I'm around here half a year maybe a little more than half a year my plans are I'm not going to build another one I'll tell people if this is lost tomorrow I'm going to buy a tent thanks for watching this week's episode I hope Guys, I will enjoyed, be sure to like, share and subscribe.
