the unfortunate Hindenburg on its last flight sails over New York these images taken from a Path News plane less than 4 hours before the tragedy show the world's largest airship heading to Lakehurst New Jersey on Newark's famous Auto Skyway the airship was acclaimed by thousands of people who little knew was their last glimpse of the Hindenburg. Inside the silver envelope are 16 separate gas pockets, each filled with hydrogen, a highly flammable gas from the ground. You can see the forward control cabin from which the boat is operated. Windows along the side indicate the location of the passenger quarters in which many were taken to a fiery death on the approach to Lakehurst, the Hindenberg looked like a giant conqueror of the skies, but proved to be a trifling game in the mighty clutches of Fate, it almost seemed as if fate had set the stage for the horrible tragedy an elegant vessel sailing serenely towards its Doom for 3 hours the derable circled the landing field at Lakehurst New Jersey dumping more water ballast than ever into a span effort to level off again throws ballast and a nervous tension grips those who are watching because this is something unusual there is more ballast but the tail is settling despite everything that has been thrown finally a somber note of impending tragedy The landing lines these scenes were filmed by Path News cameraman William Deick and you're about to see the
