Here's Why YOU SHOULD TRASH YOUR CB RADIO!

Apr 05, 2024
Happy Thursday 1:9 How about I check the

radio

? Thank my Lord. If you've been down a path at any point, you'll know that I've recently been getting into CB

radio

. It seems like a lot of fun to have it for free. and open communications within range of

your

vehicle yes we all have cell phones and all that but in an emergency situation cell phones won't really work, they will be stuck, you won't be able to make phone calls or receive phone calls let alone send text messages or something like that, that's w

here

CB comes in for most people, so you know truckers, regular communication on long road trips, things like that and also off-road, you might be driving off-road. road, whether it's landing or whatever, you might be with a large group of people and they're all communicating via CB radio, since I'm building this 95 suburban to be a landing vehicle, a radio CB seems absolutely adequate and I got one and filmed some videos on the CB radio and you guys have seen them and they've gotten tons and tons of views so CB radio is now

here

near dead.
here s why you should trash your cb radio
There are tons of people out there who still use CB radio. and who wants to get into this like me one day I thought, hey, you know, I'm going to see what's on Craigslist. I typed in the CB radio and came across this Cobra 29 LX. Now this thing looked new and he only wanted like $35 for it, so I texted him and asked him to come look at it. I was there in 20 minutes. I looked at the unit and it was new. The plastic was not yet torn off the front screen. I asked him why he was selling it. and he said that he had installed it on his other truck and he bought a new truck and he just didn't want to install it.

More Interesting Facts About,

here s why you should trash your cb radio...

I offered him 20 dollars and he accepted it now. This Cobra 29 is incredible. I really like it. It's a great radio. it has a big screen on there where you can change the colors and it even has an internal SWR meter, lots of features on this radio but there's just one big problem with it, it's huge, it's a giant, there's just nowhere to mount it so today I'm going to rip that thing out of my truck and install a new one. This new one is much smaller. I wanted something really very small, very small in comparison. I wanted something I could put within arm's reach.

Something I could drive on the road. for example, and not having to reach over to turn it on, it's right there and ready to go this time. I did some more research on what was available that would fit the requirements. I found a company called president electronics and they make this radio called President Andy USA now to be completely transparent I contacted them and they agreed to send me this radio in exchange for a review video. They are not paying me in any other way, they just sent me the CB and if you are curious about this CB. radio or any of the others.

I'll put a link in the description below this video and here's my current setup with the Cobra 29 LX and you can see it's not a small radio, it definitely looks good, but it looks huge. Around my truck you can see there is nowhere else to mount this thing. I couldn't really mount it here, it's just too big, so down here on the floor was the only option, well that presented a problem I couldn't see. the screen was sliding everywhere so I built this stand so it was off the floor and the screen was in my line of sight.
So far it has worked very well, but it takes up too much space. where does this guy come in, yeah, this guy, right here, you can see the center console on this '95 suburban and I think down here between the center console and the seat would be an absolutely perfect location for the CB radio. This location gives me easy access. with one hand so I can turn it on, see the screen and use all the buttons and with the microphone mounted right next to it again, it's going to give me easy access with one hand so I can reach down and grab that microphone and start talking now.
Let's take a look at these two side by side. Here we can see that the president's and ECB's radio is absolutely small in comparison and with the Andes placed on top of the Cobra 29, you can see again how small the CB radio is here. the back of the Andy and although this unit is very small and very short it does have an external heatsink so that is something to keep in mind when thinking about placement but this will be a permanent mount since this unit is so light that I don't necessarily need to screw the mount anywhere.
I can just use a loop and that's what I'm going to do. I'm using this alcohol swab to clean the top of the unit and just remove the backing, put it right there, just press it down. Now we have half of our mounting system ready, the other half of our hook and loop will be right down here, of course, one of the benefits of hook mounting. and the loop is I can remove it and readjust it as needed, so let's go ahead and clean up this area, then we'll take this other part of the hook and loop and put it right there, which looks good to me now that the radio can It can Assemble easily and any orientation we want and that seems perfect.
I have moved the seat all the way back so let's move it forward and see how it looks, this is pretty much my seating position and as you can see it is perfectly positioned. I have extremely easy access to be able to turn it off and on right there within my reach. Now I have this really small President Andy USA CB radio fully installed, it's connected directly to the battery and this thing couldn't fit more perfectly. no screws, no drilling, just hook and loop after installing the Kobra unit with the big bracket and all, I really saw that it was too big and not a great idea for it to be there.
I actually really enjoy having this open space there and because President Andy u.s. a CB radio is so small I chose to mount it right here on the side of my center console in my opinion this is a perfect location it is discreet and out of the way the only person who can really see it is the driver of the vehicle. I mounted the microphone to the side, so now everything is nice and compact and easy to access. I have temporarily set up this SWR meter so we can make sure we are within spec. The antenna I'm using is the Wilson, so here we are.
They're on channel 20. I'm going to grab the microphone. I have the meter set to forward and the calibration knob counterclockwise. We'll go ahead and adjust the microphone and set our set point right there and with the microphone still on. We will lower it so that it is reflected. You can see that our ROE is very low. Normally you'll want to check

your

SWR on channel 1 and channel 40 as well, but for the purposes of this video we'll call it well we'll go ahead and go to channel 19 and request a radio check switch 1-9 happy Thursday can I get a radio check?
First try is always fun guys, I have to say that when I was looking for a smaller CB unit package and came across Presidential Electronics Company they had some pretty intriguing radios. They have radios that are even smaller than this one for me. This version of President Andy checks out. All the Right Boxes is small, lightweight, packed with features, and doesn't break the bank. One of the features that I think is really cool about these Presidents CB radios is their automatic squelch. ASC control that you can see printed right there, so basically you have your muffler. knob that I can turn up and adjust manually, but if I leave it all the way down it activates the auto mute control.
You can also see it written there on the screen and what it does is basically adjust the mute for you and so far in my limited use it seems to work very well how's the 1:9 channel going? How about a radio check for me? We just got a confirmation that said loud and clear and that is the purpose of a radio check is to know if you are transmitting loud and clear, that is also why we check our SWR to make sure our antenna matches the radio . With too high an SWR, you can actually heat up the components inside a CB radio and cause them to fail, so you'll always want to have an SWR meter and check your levels before you start using the radio.
SWR meters are cheap. I bought this one on Amazon and will link to it in the show notes below. I know CB had its heyday in the '70s, '80s, and even '90s, but there are still a lot of people who actually use this stuff. In fact, the first two videos I posted about CB radio got over half a million views and that told me something: there are a lot of people who use this stuff. I'm really interested in CB and what do you know? I really want him to come back. I think it could and I think it already is.
If you have a CB radio installed in your car, let me know what type it is and where it is located. down in the comments below if you enjoyed this video please like if you are not subscribed subscribe I'm Jimmy with a path here on YouTube and I'm going to get another radio check switch 1-9 can I get a radio check? Please, my God, you guys just came out of that parking lot and I'm looking at this. Did someone hit a fire hydrant? What's going on? This is crazy. Someone had to hijack a fire hydrant. Well, that was crazy.
Drive down the street and you see. this huge jet of water 50 feet high and a group of firefighters trying to turn off the water. It looks to me like someone hit the fire hydrant breaking it and then sending the water shooting extremely high. It took them a long time. To turn off the water I saw firefighters trying to do it along with the Department of Water and Power trying to do it. It seemed to me that they had to cut part of the street to be able to remove the cover and be able to get out. the tool there to be able to turn off the water, but they finally got it, it was amazing, I've never seen that before, I was hoping I could get through it and get a free car wash, but hey, real quick, I just want to say a big thank you.
Thanks to President of Electronics for providing this Andy USA CB Radio for review.
