Heavy D's 6x6 With Tracks for SEMA | Diesel Brothers

Feb 27, 2020
We are less than two weeks away from the SEMA Show and we are doing a custom build for our custom build. I want to go full track with the half track load to get this build out, we're going to have to build a completely custom one. Never before has a rear track assembly been made that fits both rear drive axles and adapts to the suspension movement of the truck. It also has to match the custom front track assemblies that build muscle for us, these will literally bolt right onto the truck. I found them fine. All I wanted to thank you for, the hallmark of this 6x6 build is the versatility seen with the custom platform and

tracks

Technically, this truck should be able to go anywhere, do anything in any conditions, which is why Sam and Lacey, behind the shop, were kept busy holding up. Out of the truck bed and getting ready for the big custom bed that will sit on the rear

tracks

, the front track assemblies for our 6x6 ended up being pretty simple to fit onto the truck, all we had to do was make an adapter. BAM plate, they bolted on correctly, but to match the body lines from front to back we have to widen the front bumper. Sam has designed and named hundreds of little moving parts that, once we have them all assembled, will form the coup de Gras of this build the rear track assembly coup de Gras coup de Gras I'll call this build coup de Gras I spell it right as Timothy Robert coup from Gras Harwich probably hook it up good hey how's it going there they go together yeah we were about to? lift the dolly assembly, yeah, and roll these dolly assemblies under it and lock them in place, okay, perfect, okay Emily, number one, these track assemblies weigh like 1,500 pounds each, which means 1,500 pounds on the right side 1,500 on the left side, that's 3000 pounds, so I try it.

More Interesting Facts About,

To install this, you have to realize that we have sprockets, idlers, bolt holes, all these different things that we are trying to align not once but twice and that the sprocket has to bolt to both rear axles, but here it is interesting thing because their suspension cycles on the truck actually move the axle centerline about an inch or two. Well, we've already come to the conclusion that by putting these big slider bars on, basically this entire assembly can be opened and closed like that, but the real beauty here. is the fact that this rod here will have a connecting bar that connects this piece to that piece and then it slides up to what we call the turnbuckle that contracts or expands preventing the track from slipping or breaking and now we're going to the point where we're going to put the track in and actually simulate it on the truck is not the way to do this, we're going to rest the top on top of here the sprocket, yeah, and then we're going to fold the The bottom of the problem with the assembly of The track is so big and so

heavy

is to get everything to cooperate and work well together, here we go, she will be like fighting a bear, it is a fight because many

heavy

components push against other heavy components, even Laura Morgan. we have to go back to the other side just a little bit, it's like there, oh man, this is the coolest thing we've built so far, as long as it works as long as it works right now, it's like the moment of truth.

Go back up a little bit while turning a little bit, then we know the whole thing is spinning freely, everything could basically stick and if it sticks, let's go back to the drawing board, get it going and see what. Everything happens right in the way we design these tracks, we want them to articulate and function as their own little suspension system, which means they have to be able to swing back and forth, front to back, side to side, it has There must be suspension movement, otherwise, it will be like this. a really stiff ride okay give it a little bit keep up with the marketing a little bit and that's pretty important right now we're seeing some slack in the track that's building up in the rear that's pushing towards the front and not engaging the gear wheels. the way you're supposed to right now, when they make contact, they don't spin, they just hit and catch the rim.

I think the rounded pins should probably rotate. They have some that spin, but we decided not to run that style. Here because I think they make too much noise, the pegs that Sam made that basically engage the sprockets. I'm pretty sure they will need to pivot and rotate, but we may find that changing those bits and pieces just pushed the problem even further. the track assembly, which means this is a failed bill, but we don't do the CIMA, which means a lot of wasted time and money, so we actually just got the last set of pegs locked here They took it from inches and 3/4 to inches and a half and what that did is it allowed us to gain some wiggle room between these teeth on the tracks, so now when you get close to these sprockets, you don't They line up at the top and want to rise above. of the track and jump occasionally so that this realigns the trivet during the process of assembling the second tracks.
Sam found a small discrepancy in the size of the pins we were using on the unit. The sprockets are going up quite a bit, so we left them with the ability to turn to the right. Yes, otherwise, we will try to get a good grip on the track. Why don't we do this Morgan jump there and back up so he can sit me here? and see what's going on, now it's finally time to give it a try in the real world. Hey Morgan, come back, look, there's a lot more to these tracks than just a 13,000 pound truck.
This is our entire experience at SEMA. This is like the Biggest Show of the Year, so Sam can't find a way to keep these cogs from getting their teeth stuck in the tracks. Cemal is a failure. I mean all this time and energy we put into this, we can't even drive. the truck towards the convention center, that's a problem, speed up a little, it definitely doesn't jump anymore. See those pegs just rolling around, grabbing those teeth? Yeah, I'm very happy to know where we screwed this thing, we drove it, that's how it was. Even though I don't launch a caterpillar, I know it will land like hell.
You have just created a set of tracks for a six-by-six tandem axle. Now we can put all our hands to work powder coating all of these pieces, painting things, and just finishing them off. loose ends so we can get this truck ready, hit the road and get to SEMA just in time, but first, we have camera speed and action. What's happening? America, it's your boys, heavy d@d, so Dei now listen. We understand that not everyone has the opportunity to go to the SEMA show and see these big, crazy over-the-top builds, and to be honest, it's a little hard to fully appreciate a tracked vehicle like our 6x6 when it's at SEMA. stand anyway, so what we decided to do is take you out into the wild with us today to come with us on an adventure and steal those really capable trucks from come on, this is the official, this thing is a space, go vote, This is crazy and the suspension feels a thousand times better than I ever imagined.
I am absolutely amazed at how capable this truck is. Just walk effortlessly on the snow. We're like two or three feet of snow in this field here, just floating right with all our might. All of our engineering, all the time and energy we put into this looks like it will be worth it to take this already custom 6x6 Ford we built to the next level. We removed the bed of the truck. We removed the wheels and tires so we could haul in a new aluminum bed with all kinds of tool boxes and racks to install on the truck.
We found a set of tracks that were already built and pretty much ready to bolt directly onto the front of that Buy 50 just by using an adapter. We had to design and build this rear track assembly completely from scratch and to be honest there is nothing like it anywhere, it's not even a burden on the engine, do it before you reduce the tracks. We've built all kinds of crazy things. in our shop over the years, but this rear track assembly is a first for us, the fact that we were able to put this together with all kinds of different components in the short period of time that we made it and that it came out here and worked .
Better than anything I've ever operated in the snow, that's a big deal and I'm really proud of it, like any little kid looking at the review, looking at the slopes, dude this is amazing, I'm telling you what Seema has never seen anything like this. Even remotely close and the best part is that not only will we reach Seema, but we will be there early this year.
