Heat Embossing with Stencils

Mar 22, 2024
Hi everyone, I'm Gina Kay from Gina Kay Designs and today I'm showing you a quick and easy card using

stencils

and

embossing

powder. Let me show you the tools and products you will need to make this card project. I need some

stencils

and the stencils I'm going to use are the art stencils from Gina Kay designs for my sampler that I'm going to make. I'm going to use the floral one and then I have another project to show you. where I use the foliage stencil, so you'll need some ink. The ink I am going to use is Versamark ink.

You will also need a magic

embossing

pad or some type of anti-static item. use the ek Success dust tool and I'm going to use some of Gina K's designs, fine detail gold dust. I also have some blue painter's tape and then for cardstock I have some of Gina K's designs layered with white weight and some black. onyx and then I have a heavy weight white card base so I have a piece of paper here that I'm going to work on and then I'm going to take this piece of white cardstock and I'm going to grab my template now you can use any type of template what you want I really like these big, bold types of stencils for this, but I've also tried it with other types of stencils and it sure looks good, so I'll grab a couple of pieces. of the blue painter's tape because I want to make sure my stencil doesn't move during this so I'm just going to tear off two pieces here and if you don't have blue painter's tape you can always use washi tape and then I'm going to place my stencil where I'd like my design to be there, so I want it to come off the card a little bit so it slides to the left and down to the bottom and then I'm going to stick that on my cardstock like that and that just makes sure that everything is secure now, if you want, you can also tape your template to your piece of paper and that really secures everything, so let's do that.

More Interesting Facts About,

heat embossing with stencils...

Okay, now what I'm going to do is use my Versamark ink and I'm going to use it almost like I'm doing a direct to paper technique because that's what I'm doing. I'm going to do here and I'm going to push this down now I'm not going to twist it or anything because there are fine detail points on a lot of templates and you don't want to move those points so I'm just going to go down pushing and pressing this ink through. of the insole and I'm also holding my insole down while I do it, helping to keep it tight so it doesn't move at all.

Okay, once that's all there, then I'm going to take out this tape and then I'm going to remove the template from my cardstock. Okay, now I know that's hard to see because there's a watermark there, but it's very hard to see on the screen, so my next step is, I'm going to gently remove the blue painter's tape from the sides here and then I'm going to take my gold embossing powder and I'm going to sprinkle it all over my design, you can see how pretty, okay. let me put my embossing powder back into the jar here and then I'll take my

heat

tool and

heat

up that design.

Now you can start your heat tool a few seconds before you are ready to work with it. just to make sure it's nice and warm and so your cardstock won't warp as much, so I'm just going to move a couple of little specks here that I don't like. You can also do that with a brush and then we are going to emboss with heat, we could see this by heating the tool, it goes very fast, you can also mix colors in powder for embossing, if you want, you can do the half and the gold and the half and the silver, so now you can see that everything is heat etched.
It's not pretty, it's another very fun way to use those templates. Okay, now I'm going to take my Misti because I want to add my greeting, so I have my hare Misti and I also want to emboss my greeting, so I go. to put my piece of cardstock in the corner of my Misti and I'm going to use my magnet if you haven't tried my sweet petunia's new Misti bar magnet it's a very nice and strong magnet it's good to try it and then stamps I'm going to use the Holly Jolly mini set looks like one of my favorite stamp sets every season.
I love this. I'm going to put it here in this corner like this, make sure it's straight and then I'm going to use my magic stamping pad, now sprinkle all of that and then I'm going to ink the stamp using a little bit of that Versamark ink and then I'm going to stamp it right, Now I'm going to grab my piece of scrap metal. paper again and a little more of that embossing powder and then I'm going to etch it. The best thing about using Misti is that if there are shallow dots and your stamping, you can even go over it again and Andry stamps it with Versamark and then embosses it.
Again, that's a really cool benefit and that's the finished panel. Now I want to show you what my finished card project looks like. Here is the finished card I made. I stamped this one a little and have this template below. a little more and if you find yours is a little tall and you don't want your greeting to be so high, you can always stamp the greeting on an oval or rectangular die cut and then just place it on top of that, this way it can overlap a little about the flowers, so here is the finished card.
All I did was adhere it to a piece of black onyx and place it on a white card base. Now I want to show you another card that I made this one, I used the foliage template, that's this template again, I use the foliage template and then I also used stamps from the bright and cheerful stamps TV kit. I actually stamped one of Etta's dots and then the greeting and cut the dot. using the dyes that are in the kit and then I just place it in between all of this here where the stencil is. I just put the flower right there, so that's another card project using heat embossing stencils.
I hope you enjoyed today's. Stamp TV project and I hope you try this technique. Stay tuned to Stamp TV for more card projects and thanks so much for watching.
