Apr 23, 2024
Today we are going to read Grow up, David! By David Shannon. David's older brother always said... No, David! Hello, it's David again. It seems that David's brother is working on a car model. That's when he glues together small pieces to create a small version of a car. You can also paint and decorate it. It's really cool, but it takes a lot of work. I bet David's older brother doesn't want David to accidentally break it. You are too small. Here is David in a blue and white striped shirt and red pants. He is holding a purple soccer ball.

I think this person could be David's older brother. He wears a soccer jersey, jeans, and red and white striped sneakers. And he carries the ball. He looks like he is playing with his friends. David could get hurt if he plays soccer with the big

kids

. You may have heard your older brother or sister tell you the same thing, right? They're just trying to take care of you. Stop following me! Oh, we were right. David's brother was the one wearing the red and white striped sneakers. But it's not very nice to put your shoe in someone's face.

No wonder David is making that face. I guess David's older brother just wanted to be alone, but David also wanted to have fun in the treehouse. Grow up, David! David's brother is doing his homework. He has many note

books

and papers in front of him. But what is David doing? Does it look like he's doing his homework too? Not right? He pretends to have long teeth by sticking the ends of pencils into his teeth. Maybe he's pretending to be a saber-toothed tiger or even a walrus. What a great imagination David has. But it would be quite difficult to concentrate on the task when someone is doing it next to you.

That's why David's older brother told him to

grow

up and act like an older boy like him. Very funny, David. David tied his older brother's shoelaces. He could stumble and fall if he stood up inadvertently. He could have gotten hurt. You have to be careful when you do those kinds of tricks. But David's brother saw him before he got up. He said that he was very funny, but that he was being sarcastic. That means saying something, but you actually mean the opposite of what it means. You usually change your voice a little too. David's brother did not say “Very funny,” as if he were laughing, but he changed his voice and said very funny, as if he was not happy about it.

David did it! Uh oh, David was playing in the bathroom. I don't think big brothers and sisters play like that anymore, do you? His brother knew immediately that it was him. There's an orange toy submarine in the bathroom, along with the plunger. You use a plunger to force water back down the toilet when it becomes clogged. And there is toilet paper everywhere: in the bathroom and on the floor. And wait, here's a second roll of toilet paper too. You will no longer be able to use them once they get wet and there is water on the ground too.
And if you look down here there's a red toothbrush. Yuck, David's mom is going to have to throw away that toothbrush. I wonder if it was David's toothbrush or his brothers' toothbrush. That's mine! Oh no, what has David gotten himself into? Here's a hint: do you recognize this orange Jack o'lantern? It's his older brother's Halloween candy! And it seems that David found it and ate a lot of it. His stomach is very big from having eaten so many sweets and he dropped chocolate not only on himself, but also on the bed. This must be part of David's Halloween costume.
It looks like a mask. There are lollipops, smarties, chocolate bars, candy corn and much more. I bet David's stomach is going to hurt after eating so much candy. I know he would. Go ahead and call mom! Phew! Rough! David's older brother is trying to spit on him. I would call my mom too. Who wants to spit in their faces? You're not supposed to fight with your brothers and sisters like that. Give it back to me, David! David runs through the house with a painting in his hand. The photograph is an image of a girl with blonde, curly hair.
In the bottom corner of it it looks like she kissed him while she was wearing lipstick. I wonder if that's David's brother's girlfriend. Have a good trip! That wasn't very nice of David's older brother. David could get hurt and was carrying a cup of juice, but then his brother arrived and made him trip, taking out his leg. I think David is fine, but I bet he'll get in trouble for spilling his juice. Make me! David's brother should know that he should not start a fight with David. Because he is bigger, he is much stronger than David.
So David will most likely only get upset when his brother tells him that. Besides, you're not supposed to fight with your brothers. He hit me first! Uh oh, do you know what happened? I think David is crying, there's a little tear here. It seems that David's brother hit him after David hit him first. But that doesn't mean it's right. You're supposed to take care of your brothers and sisters. Do you think they'll both get into trouble? Thanks a lot, David! After fighting together, David and his older brother made a big mess. The chair is on the floor, the table and lamp fell over, the flowers overturned and I think the couch overturned too.
There are also photographs and a magazine on the floor. Now they both have to sit in a timeout. When you get angry with your brother or sister, you should not hit them. You can talk to them and tell them that you don't like what they are doing or tell your parents. Sometimes you also have to take a break from each other. I want to play? David's brother asks him to play soccer with him. They seem to get along well with each other. Sometimes you can't always have your friends around to play and that is why you should always know how to play well with your siblings.
I think David likes playing with his brother more. David, are you okay? David is lying on the ground and has the ball. I wonder if he got tackled or he just fell down. Maybe he wasn't ready to play soccer with the older

kids

after all. Good thing David's older brother is looking out for him and making sure he's okay. Good game, Dave. Good job David. He is learning to play with his brother and probably gets better every time he plays. That's why David's brother lets him know when he is doing a good job. And I'm sure David likes hearing that too.
The end. David and his older brother may fight sometimes, but they also take care of each other. It's not always easy being a brother or sister, but in the end you still love each other. To read other
