Gravity Falls Characters: Good to Evil

Jun 05, 2021
Disney Channel has been home to some of the best television animation in recent history, but Gravity Falls was in a league of its own. The show only consisted of two seasons along with additional content, but it was a hit with fans and left a lasting impression due to its memorable and deep

characters

. This small town in central Oregon has been home to some of our favorite people, but in a place where the strange thrives, who is the best and who is irredeemable? I'm Brad with WickedBinge and this is Gravity Falls: Good to Evil. As usual, we'll start with the purest and work our way down.

These

characters

are the

good

ones. Starting with the best, let's put Waddles. Mabel's pet pig, the two were inseparable ever since she won him at a local carnival. Being a pig unable to speak, we can only assume that he is a simple creature who simply imitates Mabel. But we are given a glimpse when he got caught up in Dipper's experiment. When Waddles gains greater intelligence and can communicate, he remains the same adorable creature as before. He even decides to go back to how he had been before becoming close to Mabel, valuing her friendship. The Silver Medal of Good goes to Soos, the Shack's handyman.

The boy radiates concern for everyone he comes into contact with. He has many moments where he tends to say or do the wrong thing. His behavior is not socially acceptable but he has a

good

heart. He came to think of the Pines as his family, showing absolute loyalty to Stan and only putting the children before the founder of the Mystery Shack, restraining him once the children found the portal and stating that it was his job to protect them. When he discovered that Mabel and Dipper were willing to give him the baby prize, he used it to set them up.

His thinking saved them on more than one occasion, from avoiding pterodactyls to confronting Bill. He really is a great friend to have. Coming in third place, we have to place Mabel. She's known for her love of stickers, glitter, and...well, pretty much everything. He has an incredibly expressive nature and takes up any hobby that gives him an excuse to do something. She has been a support to her brother as much as he has been a support to her. She is the one who makes sure people don't take life too seriously and she strives to keep Dipper from growing up too quickly.

She put aside her rivalry for Pacifica to save the girl from death on the mini-golf course and worked hard to help her in Grunkle Stan's and her brother's love life. She cares deeply about being seen as the sweet young woman she strives to be. She may stray from time to time, but she always comes through and does the right thing. Next we have Wendy Corduroy. She is the laid-back teenager who works at the Shack as a summer job and is eventually a one-sided love interest for Dipper. She loses points for trying to take advantage of Mabel not wanting to run the Cabin like Stan did, but she gains many hero points for her help during Weirdmageddon.
She welcomed the twins and, although she didn't have the best work ethic, she stepped up to help with the adventures. She gave Mabel dating advice and had a heart-to-heart with Dipper when she finally confessed to him. And really, who could forget her dropping a man and breaking his arm so she could save Mabel from Bill? Mason, better known as Dipper, is next. Now Dipper does many things to impress Wendy or to learn about the author of the magazines. But he's also a good brother and would do anything for Mabel, even if he ends up embarrassing himself in the process.
He performed reverse CPR on Mermando, helped with the romantic sock opera, encouraged the family to play miniature golf to cheer up her sister, and helped recover McGucket's memories. He turned down Ford's apprenticeship to stay with Mabel in California during her school year and, although he cheated on Candy, he manned up and apologized for the way he behaved. And of course, it was him and his sister who got Bill to chase them long enough for Ford and Stan to come up with a plan on how to defeat him for good. The next one may surprise some people, but next we'll put the infamous Mr Mystery Stan Pines.
A scammer, a shady businessman and someone who thrives on the idiocy of the masses. Why is Stan Pines ranked so high on our list? He faked his own death and took on the identity of his brother, so what makes him so good? He himself admits that many bad things can be said about him. But the fact is that he gave up his identity in order to fix the portal and get his brother back. And how many men would take on a pterodactyl to save his niece's pet pig? He saved Dipper and Mabel from Gideon, and was the one who eliminated Bill even though he knew his memory would be erased.
Next up are Deputy Durland and Sheriff Blubs. It seems only right to put these lovebirds together. Now, there are some who refuse to believe that these two are actually a couple, but based on their interactions together, we have to disagree. Neither of them are the smartest bulb in the box, but while most cartoon police teams have the comedy relief and the angry guy, these two don't care about each other's antics. We dock points because they aren't the best at their jobs, they're easily fooled, and they take more time to mock Dipper when he insists on solving Wax Stan's murder.
But the way they call each other a ray of sunshine in each other's lives can warm your heart. Next we are going to put the great McGucket. Now, the only reason he's so low is because of the chaos he creates before getting help from Mabel and Dipper. It's hard to blame him when he said that all he wanted was to spend time with his own son, who had refused to be associated with him. It was later revealed that he was the engineer who worked for Ford to help create the portal and ultimately helped found the Blind Eye Society.
When he got his memories from him, he still had many gaps, but he simply thanked the children for helping him. He acknowledged that he wasn't always a good person, but he could still strive to be one. It was because of his genius that they turned the Mystery Shack into a weapon to help defeat Bill, and even after his fame and success in the end, he remained a humble man. As for our next location, we'll put Candy and Grenda on. They quickly become close friends with Mabel and generally behave like preteen girls do. They have sleepovers, talk excitedly about their favorite bands, and support each other.
They helped collect candy in Summerween, helped free Sev'ral Times from her

evil

administrator, and provided aid to Mabel while she searched for a unicorn. They can be too energetic at times, but we're not going to rank them low for that. Next we are going to place Lazy Susan. Waitress like Greasy's, she was a temporary love interest for Stan. She is a friendly older woman who almost always has a smile on her face. She can be a bit suffocating with anyone she is dating. She left several messages for Stan, all of them going on too long when she insisted that each of her cats say hello individually.
But her heart is always in the right place. Next up is Melody, the girl Soos started dating. We didn't get to see much of her, but she was the only woman that Soos found easy to interact with because of her laid-back personality. Despite being the target of hate for a dating game, she quickly took the hits and forgave Soos for her madness. Tyler Cutebiker is next. Known primarily as the "get 'em" type. He is eventually elected mayor when Stan is unable to fill the position, and although not much is shown about him, he is worth mentioning.
He is generally considered encouraging and sweet, easily influenced by whatever exciting thing is happening at the moment. We give him points for trying to confront Bill when the demon first shows up in town. Then we have Quentin Trembly III. The forgotten president of the United States, he is known for being... different in his methods. He wasn't the smartest man and made strange decisions like putting babies in Congress and riding horses backwards. But let's hand it to him: he has a strange charisma that explains why he came to office in the first place. Let's briefly mention Marius, the boy Grenda started dating towards the end of the series.
We can't say much about him, but he stood out as the only young man present who enjoyed Grenda's company. He seemed polite, sweet and approachable. Although Grenda seemed to be exhausted by the frequent messages from him sometimes. And this is where we have decided to end the section The Good… Now we enter neutral territory… This is The Gray Area. And the first character in The Gray Area is Mermando. He was once thought to be a boy who refused to get out of the pool, but he approaches Mabel and reveals how he ended up there. He was a brief love interest, sending frequent bottle messages until she revealed that he was in an arranged marriage.
Next we are going to place the Multi-bear. Dipper was sent to defeat him, but he ended up being too nice. Sure, he's a bear with multiple heads on his body and that's terrifying, but he just asked to die to his favorite song when Dipper overpowered him. The two realized they had a lot in common, they both felt rejected for enjoying things like Babba, and this creature proved to be no threat. At least, not for the Pines family or the town. Manly Dan was difficult to locate. Wendy's father is one of those manly men. Big and responsible, he always finds ways to show his strength.
It's fun to see that his large stature can be an inconvenience in his own house, where he constantly bumps into things. As a single father, he has shown that he adores all of his children and quickly embraced them once they were all together again. Next we are going to place Craz and Xyler, Mabel's dream boys. They were a little complicated to place. Since they are part of Mabel's mind and act the way she thinks the boys in her dreams should, they are always quick to put her on a pedestal (or arm throne?) and side with her.
In a fight. They were most prominent when she was carrying out the trial against Dipper for mentioning the real world in her bubble, but were also present during her initial interaction with Bill in Stan's mind. They are an optimistic energy support, which is why we had to place them here. Granny is next. Now, spying on people isn't the best hobby, but we can understand why she cares about Soos. She knew more than anyone how hurt she was that her father didn't show up and encouraged him to forget about the man and focus on his own happiness.
However, her comment about her husband not being in heaven makes one wonder what she has been through and what secrets she knows. Boyband Sev'ral Times is next. What can we say about these guys? They have absolutely no idea how the world works. It's fun and exhausting to think about. But we ranked them so highly because once they were free, they were incredibly loyal to Mabel and her friends. We even see them appear again to help power Mystery Shack when he turns into a robot. Real guys stand up. Toby Determined is next in our ranking. As a journalist, he is seen as one of the most disturbing residents simply because it is difficult to place the vibe he gives off.
He's not malicious, but he's definitely done some things that qualify as creepy (dancing with a cutout of a local reporter, for example), but he's never been shown to attack people or intentionally make anyone's life worse. We will briefly mention Tad Strange. He's basically known for his one-liners throughout the show. “I like bread” and “This moment will mark Tad Strange forever” are the best known. He is mainly used for comedic purposes, being that "regular guy in the room" as he doesn't do much to stand out and always has a creepy smile on his face. This is going to cause a little conflict, but we'll place Ford Pines next.
Now Ford loses many points for several reasons. Bill tricked him into building the portal in the first place even though Fiddleford insisted they destroy it. He refused to speak to his twin for years over a misunderstanding involving a science fair project, and when he approached Stan it was to ask him to take his research away when the less selfish thing would have been to simply destroy it. And the first thing he did after returning was punch his twin, reluctant to thank Stan for fixing the portal and allowing him to return. We get to see his conflict later, when Stan offers to lose his memories and trick Bill, and we were all relieved when Ford suggested they finally sail the world together.
But threatening to shoot a man for not letting Mabel's pig on the bus? That's a bit extreme. The God of Love is next. Now we know that deciding who

falls

in love is not the most difficult job there is, but it is not the easiest either. He proves to take his job at least a little seriously, but we put him on the back foot because he quickly became angry and, in his frustration, gave up and told Mabel to do what she wanted so he could perform. on the stage. ThatNegligence could have been counterproductive. Then we have Robbie.
He dated Wendy for a time and was Dipper's rival. TJ Miller may have voiced him, but that doesn't make Robbie as lovable as Tuffnut or Fred. He loved messing with people, especially Dipper, and resorted to deception to get Wendy to fall in love with him again. The fact that he used a mind control song on Wendy is the main reason why he fell so low. We'll give him credit for making some kind of peace with Dipper after the fight incident. Next we will place Filbrick Pines and Mrs. Stan and Ford's parents were a strange guy. One of them was a fraudulent telephone psychic and the other was a man who never impressed.
Filbrick was the one who kicked Stan out, demanding that he never return until he could earn the money Ford would have earned. That's harsh enough to give them a low rank, but we also want to comment that if a child were problematic enough to harm his brother's future, many parents would react the same way. Pacifica had to rank low on our gray scale. For obvious reasons. She is temperamental, has everything in her hands and is quick to attack Mabel. We place her here because she, while she is a spoiled brat, slowly gets closer to the Pines family and it is revealed that every aspect of her life is controlled.
She swallows her pride enough to ask Dipper for help and when she finds out why the family is being persecuted, she puts an end to it. At the end of the series, she still places too much importance on her status, but the character development we see in her is satisfying. The Manitaurs are next. We had to include them. They help Dipper after sensing that he was in emotional turmoil and quickly train him on how to be a man. Their tactics were quite risky and they should have never let a small child take on the Multibear, but everything they did was done according to tradition.
They had Dipper take those tests because that's how they were raised and they truly believed it was the right method. It's a tough call, but we're going to put Preston Northwest next. This guy is a terrible man and father. He never participates in anything to cheer on his daughter in person, stating that they can read about her victory after she wins. He refused to allow the public into the party even when it was the only way to stop the persecution. And he trains his daughter like he's a dog. He's just not a nice man. Gabe Benson was one of those star-crossed romances that ranked very low.
The boy made a living acting with sock puppets and proclaimed himself a diva. He was quick to ignore Mabel when she chose to save her brother instead of saving her program and we'll always remember him as the guy who made out with her hand puppet. Blendin Blandin is next. Once this guy opens his mouth and you realize Justin Roiland is voicing him, you know it's going to be chaos. His own carelessness made it possible for the children to use his watch to travel back in time, but he hated them for his misfortune. He challenged them to a match in which they could be killed and then ridiculed them for "wasting" the money on Soos.
We'll give him some credit since after seeing Bill rise to power, his first reaction was to get Time Baby and the Time Police, but overall, he comes off as a coward. Now let's call the rest of the ranking the worst of the worst. Welcome to the

evil

side of Gravity Falls. We'll put Bud first in this section. Like Preston, he is a terrible husband and father. He overindulges his son and neglects her wife to the point that when we see her, she looks like she's in the middle of a panic attack. The man was willing to join forces with the Mystery Shack only if Stan signed away Mabel as property and lived to scam the public, whether with the Telepathy Shop or his car lot.
Bud's son Gideon is next. Mabel had many fleeting romances, but Gideon was like a persistent disease that you couldn't shake. He lured people into a false sense of security with his tenderness and then took power once he had them around his finger. It's actually a little scary how well he was able to influence people and convince them to do his bidding. He set up spy equipment for the residents of Gravity Falls, attempted to rob the Mystery Shack, attempted to kill Mabel and Dipper, and allowed Mabel to be imprisoned when Bill claimed she would eventually fall in love with him.
We can only say a few things in his name: he ultimately helped save Mabel despite her fear of Bill and was a key player in defeating the demon. The Lilliputians are next. The little creatures running a mini golf course shouldn't be as dangerous as these guys ended up being. And that whole thing about getting a sticker saying which clan was better? It was bad enough that they were willing to cheat, but the moment they all banded together to cut open Mabel's stomach to get the sticker was when they fell out of favor. Next we will put the wax beings.
Trying to kill Stan? Chasing children and trying to kill them when they got in his way? Not exactly something that makes you a respectable citizen. Some of his resentment makes sense, since no one likes to be rejected and forgotten, but that doesn't justify murder. The bronze medal for evil goes to Ergman Brataman, the man who kept Sev'ral Times in its place with slave treatment. This man not only made the gang members act like circus animals and reap all the benefits, but he kept them ignorant of the real world and had clones on standby to keep their journey easy.
He only cared about making his own life as comfortable as possible, no matter who he had to step on. We have to give our Silver medal to Ivan the Blind and the Blind Eye Society. They claimed to be protectors, but honestly, they were just power hungry. They hid the city's secrets by erasing memories left and right instead of finding a different solution. They refused to acknowledge McGucket even though the man basically founded the group and had no problem wiping the minds of innocent children. The most evil character should not surprise us. We have the always amazing and terrifying Bill Cipher.
We'll give a little shout-out to his group of fellow demons, but let's be real: Bill could do all that damage on his own if he wanted to. He is probably one of the best villains in animated history. Using his charm and knowledge to get people to do whatever he wants, from possessing Dipper to trying to take Mabel's diary. We'll say this: he technically keeps his promises, but the amount of chaos he creates in the meantime doesn't help his reputation. Threatening to destroy children with his molecules, turning people to stone, allowing some of his followers to eat people...
Bill has a long list of crimes that is hard to top. But we will say that we love him for that. So that's the ranking! Do you agree with our choices? Disagree?
